I have a asus rt-ac66u i had only one problem is that you have to factory reset it after new firmwares or you will have annoying signal drops but after you factory reset, its like the best router you would ever want to have
I had a feeling the Buffalo would be the one at the top most of the time. I have the N300 version and that thing worked overseas where my house has concrete walls! Always great to see a video like this to see comparisons you wouldn't be able to make by just reading the marketing material of the routers!
I can back that up, it looks quite sleek and resistant to dust and a really nice feature is the dim lights that wont distract your attention unless you want to see them.
I actually had my old linksys working over almost a kilometer after putting on DD-WRT and adjusting the settings. Software settings seems to play quite the role when it comes to distance.
I'm looking for a wireless with long range can you tell me which one is the best and send me the link on Amazon high-performance long range which one should I go
Thank you for the video, I need a long range router which covering a circuit with diameter 1000 meter line of sight, with transfer rate more than 500 mbps, any suggestion ?
Some of the outlined graphs weren't the tests Linus was talking about. 1st test: no outline, 2nd test: 1st outline, 3rd test: 2nd outline, 4th test: 4th outline
can i use the usb port of my wifi router as a means of wifi receiver via external wifi receiver? My neighbor shares his signal to me, but the only device that I can use is my laptop through usb wifi receiver.
Should be noted a few of those routers have DDWRT support which will allow you to match tx and rx signals to your average distance from the router. Asus especially has a robust menu system
Anyone still watching this video, The TP-Link wasn't the top performer, but it did decent. At $60 dollars it's a cheap alternative, mine works fine so far. They also have good compatibility with openwrt, so you could theoretically get it to perform better if you put in some effort.
I have the Asus one and I can tell you that it looks way better in person. Although is not a COOL looking stuff as a gamer, but its a design looking equipment. Looks good though.
I would LOVE to see Linus make a HOMEMADE wireless solution that can broadcast WiFi over miles, not hundreds of feet. I've seen this done before and I think it would make a great video, taking a cheap usb wireless card with changeable antennas, running that through an amplifier and to an antenna, and seeing what kind of ranges they can get at what price points
my first guess is that a mesh system would be best, really need more info other than 10k sqft.. multistory building? metal walls? lots of walls? is it a warehouse? give us more information if you want a better suggestion. however your comment is 2 years, so im assuming it doesnt matter any longer... lol
He did a video not long ago about sound cards, i think it was on linustechtips. it was about a external sound card. But he also said if you want a internal soundcard he recommends a xonar from asus ~30 dollar/euros.
ASUS Dual Band Wireless N Router, just search RT-N66U at www.futureshop.ca cost $149.99 Free shipping & can be returned at any futureshop if you no like it! :)
Was the Asus router tested with the latest firmware compared to older firmware... Netgear is suing Asus and made them turn the transmit power down and made them issue new firmware.
The best router for me is apple airport extreme...extremly stable and long range....is powered up since 2010 and is stable, also connected with native ipv6 of my isp.
Yeah and considering MSI must be "high end" in Vancouver, Canada. MSI was the RUNT of the motherboard world two decades ago. So was the company who makes all of Apples products in China, Foxcon, there motherboards were also on the low end of the totem pole. Mostly for reliability and even lasting.
Every time I click a link provided for NCIX, it just goes straight to the ncix.com front page. It never goes to the actual product. Where's this glitch from? How can I fix it?
Unfortunately even 2 inches from my router none of my devices will work with 5ghz. My tv is about 12 feet from the router and when I tell it to connect to my routers 5ghz side, I get 2 bars. When using the 2.4ghz connection I get 5 bars everywhere in my house.
he also didnt test if there were interferences that were at different times to alter results. if he did one test and someone started talking on a cordless phone/microwave even in the radius the data was going, that would partially interfere a bit.
is there anyone to help me to choose the best router for my house with the maximum possible range, i dont wanna buy a very expensive one as i am not a gamer, i want something good for basic usages with the the best range as i want to access the internet from my entire neighborhood, please help me to choose a good one thanks
Chart with numbers but no units. Were those % signal? Mbit? dBm? I ask because this is the kind of marketing they do on the packaging "2.5x as much jibblybibbles than the competition" when really that means nothing. I want to know packetloss and throughput, especially as a percentage of max (since each router had its own different max capability).
I have a Dlink Dual Band router and the 5ghz SUCKS! Nothing seems to connect to it and those things that do, I get less bars even right next to it then just using the 2GHz mode. Range is not a big deal for most, 2400 feet on most routers. Getting that 5ghz dual band feature to actually work would be nice.
reliable router better than a bit longer range router.. :). check the refurbished of 2 brands of ur choice in big online store (amazon, newegg) u can get a good clue.
Ruckus Wireless solutions are not meant for consumer or home user, Unless you want to spent 500+ on wireless routers, and get Wireless controllers etc.
Linus this needs an update for 2018
I have a asus rt-ac66u i had only one problem is that you have to factory reset it after new firmwares or you will have annoying signal drops but after you factory reset, its like the best router you would ever want to have
Between Linus and Project Farm, I got an honest, no BS review on just about anything digital or mechanical you could think of...makes me a happy guy 😉
Can you guys revisit this soon? Is using a repeater still a viable option? And how about AC WiFi now?
I like how you made "penetration" really stick out by making it slightly bigger than the rest of the text.
I appreciate the fact that you tested all of them at 2.4 GHz. Looking forward to buying an Asus N66U.
Is there an update to this video for 5Ghz now that it's 4years later? Thanks
Thank you for doing real live testing. Great job and well explained.
what about linksys wrt160nl or wrt54gl ??
more than warehouse range ,
i want to use 150 feet
the one in the centre looks cool. and I will take you're word for it fellow human :)

I wondered if you can test for wireless ranger extender for larger home, or in your office.
Thank you for the video, I need a long range router which covering a circuit with diameter 1000 meter line of sight, with transfer rate more than 500 mbps, any suggestion ?
Yeah, I was about to point that out. Also, graphs are offset. Showing stairs when talking about the office... etc.
I want to hook up wifi cameras around my capecod house, what is the best router for camera coverage
So which is the best?? Haha
Some of the outlined graphs weren't the tests Linus was talking about. 1st test: no outline, 2nd test: 1st outline, 3rd test: 2nd outline, 4th test: 4th outline
Liked the video before watching it u know its gonna be good it's linus
can i use the usb port of my wifi router as a means of wifi receiver via external wifi receiver?
My neighbor shares his signal to me, but the only device that I can use is my laptop through usb wifi receiver.
If i'm using an Ethernet cable from my device to the router, does what router i use impact my overall connection?
Or doesn't it matter?
I bought the asus router for $89. Watching this makes me feel better about my purchase.
Should be noted a few of those routers have DDWRT support which will allow you to match tx and rx signals to your average distance from the router. Asus especially has a robust menu system

The only data I looked at was the Warehouse. It seems the ASUS & Buffalo was the best out of all of em.
what were these bandwidth transfer speeds measured in?
I have the Asus one and I can tell you that it looks way better in person. Although is not a COOL looking stuff as a gamer, but its a design looking equipment. Looks good though.
wow linoose, this was only 4 plus years agoo? dang
should anyone get the ASUS-AC5300?
Man we truly need an update ;-;

Nice office racing setup :D

I got a JCG from NCIX in the summer and it's amazing.
i need a long range wifi router covering 10000sq ft can u suggest?
Use repeaters
custom server

Netgear X10 or Netgear X8 or Tp-Link Talon 7200
For microsoft technician office ?
Wow that building is quite big for a company like you.
Buffalo N600 is the winner here, and you can get it priced matched for around $79.99.
What was the farthest distance that you tested for in feet or meters?
Ruckus are a league above all these. Shocked they are not reviewed here.
That TP-Link router is the best thing i ever had
The warehouse is like 150m away from the hotspot?
Linus, why make an X Y graph and only label 1 axis? Is that the Canadian way of making an X Y graph?
I know that NCIX is only stocks windows stuff, but how does the apple airport base station fit in with all of these?
He did a video not long ago about sound cards, i think it was on linustechtips. it was about a external sound card. But he also said if you want a internal soundcard he recommends a xonar from asus ~30 dollar/euros.
This buffalo is out of stock... any comparable recommendations?
ASUS Dual Band Wireless N Router, just search RT-N66U at www.futureshop.ca cost $149.99 Free shipping & can be returned at any futureshop if you no like it! :)
Ended up with an Asus N-900, happy with it. Bought a Buffalo first and it did no good, returned it.
that is the same one, RT-N66U is the N900. Good Router :)
Was the Asus router tested with the latest firmware compared to older firmware... Netgear is suing Asus and made them turn the transmit power down and made them issue new firmware.
Well I though I should get the Buffalo one. Thanks man!
So now I can tell what should be my next router be.
Ok, I'll see if I can find anything on it about bandwith settings for the 5ghz channel. Hopefully that fixes it.
what internet supplyer were you using
The best router for me is apple airport extreme...extremly stable and long range....is powered up since 2010 and is stable, also connected with native ipv6 of my isp.
God Bless this Dude !
we want AC and can you test ADSL routers
where do buy get n600
wait wait wait !! in Linus old office Linus said the asus was the best one but the chart saying its buffalo is wining there or I think i'm confused

I'm looking for a wireless travel extender that gives the longest range
Every time I click a link provided for NCIX, it just goes straight to the ncix.com front page. It never goes to the actual product. Where's this glitch from? How can I fix it?
Did you turned all the routers on at the same time when testing? If so I fear the interference is serious as hell...
Man you look awesome
Apple TIme Capsule is that a good router?
Thumbs up for the halo 4 wallpaper
Now I have the layout of the place, begin the Zombie Apocalypse!!
Unfortunately even 2 inches from my router none of my devices will work with 5ghz. My tv is about 12 feet from the router and when I tell it to connect to my routers 5ghz side, I get 2 bars. When using the 2.4ghz connection I get 5 bars everywhere in my house.

The buffalo can stand up or lay down it doesn't matter the stand clips in for both or wall mount if that's your thing.
Should have waited a like an extra month and test the R7000 along with it.
4:35 Is it just me or did linus say that wrong?
Buffalo seems ahead of Asus, if you look at the pic?
Linus missing the Engenius long range duel band routers.
I have a Dlink Dual Band router and the 5ghz SUCKS! Nothing seems to connect to it and those things that do, I get less bars even right next to it then just using the 2GHz mode. Long ranger WiFi router with bunny ears.. Lol.
why wasn't the EA65/700 on this?
I believe they highlighted the wrong bar. It was the third location he was talking about which would be the bar to the right of the highlighted one.
That was very helpful thanks
how to buy
Asus RT-AC66U Speed Specs are wrong in the video. Its 450Mbs+1.3Gbs
I own one and you can see the right specs at asus website.
no ea6500?
lol. is that simons cats at the end?
go for synlogy. great ios/android app (music, video, pictures and downloader), nice interface, easy, etc...
It's not about the size of the aerials, its how you use them that matters...
Do a buyers guide on NAS

Why do i want to buy that JCG...thing...? I find it interesting :D
I think they look quite sleek
4:29 You meant the Buffalo not the ASUS.

reliable router better than a bit longer range router.. :). check the refurbished of 2 brands of ur choice in big online store (amazon, newegg) u can get a good clue.
What about ping? seems like that would degrade over distance
what about range extenders
love you Linus you are the best !!
No Airport Extreme?
