The WD My Net N750 for $38 (Amazon) or N900 for $56 (Amazon) are pretty solid routers for the money. Both are dual band, gigabit ethernal routers with two USB slots (the N900 having USB 3.0) for NAS or printers. I have the N750 (with external HDD attached) which is pretty solid. Web interface is good (has guest access, QoS, IPv6). The only thing lacking is range, but if you have a small house/apartment, this works just fine.
I think my dad just bought that linksys one like a week ago. We have a 5,000 sqft house so it loses like a bar or two sometimes at the outer reaches of my house, but other than that it's great!
The best and reliable internet provider is AT&T, I have the AT&T U-Verse, but its your pick. Now the best Internet router company is by far NETGEAR but ASUS second best, the router thats most efficient and Brand new is the NETGEAR Nighthawk X6 AC3200, but right after that is the NETGEAR Nighthawk AC1900! Hope you Agree with me.
The FiOS router is free, when you sign up for the Triple Play, Double Play, or just Internet alone. It only covers 1,200 feet though, which is good enough for me. It will outlast any other router though, since the routers I had before FiOS failed within 1 and 1/4 years.
I bought the dlink hd media router 2000 and all i can say it loses connectivity pretty frequently, i reset the router about 3 times a day (not kidding). But other than that works good. no other problems with it.
Truthfully I will spend over $100 for a router. What is the BEST gaming router fo next-generation consoles (PS4 & Xbox One) I do live in a family of four as well. Please reply I would LOVE a reply and it would help me greatly.
Aaaah, screw it. I just ordered the Asus RT-N56U! It's supposed to arrive today. I hope it rocks! I trust you, Dong! $79.99 from Amazon (after $20 mail in rebate.)
I've never really understood how a router can be faster than another when the speed you choose relies on your internet provider. Can someone explain this?
If you are going to stream content from your Computer to TV or tablet (within the same network) router speeds can be a huge deal. Also if you want to transfer content from your HDD or USB plugged in the router to any device in the same network router speed matter, but in the same case if you're in another network, its your internet speed that will determine the transfer rate between your HDD and the device you're accessing it from. Hope this helps
I think CNET did not really hit the nail on the head with regard to best value for money. The number one router, the Asus RT-N56U has a lower network speed and roughly equivalent if not fewer features when compared to the TP-Link TL-WDR4300. Compare it for yourselves and see for yourselves.
for number 2 why would IPv6 be a plus side, who needs more that the 4 billion addresses that ipv4 provides for a home network, plus its a pain in the ass to set up and to subnet
actually if you want that, then just get an apple tv and hook it up on your existing network. or you can really go big and buy a receiver with airplay built in.
A good router should last you at least 5 years. If you buy now a router that isn't AC you must be stuck on stupid, because you'll be just wasting your money when you'll be forced to update in 1-2 years down the line. Buy the latest and the greatest now and that would make up for your junker N + your cheaper AC in two years.
well it sucks when all the AC routers only work on windows 8 and i have windows 7 cas i like it ALOT better sooo yea give me one thats good and works with windows 7 and im sold though. plus i would rather wait like a year or 2 for the ac prices to go down cas right now there over $200
blake whitlow Switch to T-mobile if you're in the US and you get a AC router for FREE (25$ deposit or so), preaty good deal if you ask me. Maybe you get the a new phone as well if you switch.
I bought the dlink hd media router 2000 and all i can say it loses connectivity pretty frequently, i reset the router about 3 times a day (not kidding). But other than that works good. no other problems with it.
I'm using the RT-N56U currently as we speak.
Superb performance. You will not be disappointed unless you get a defective unit.
and here i am still using my old reliable wrt54g. best router i ever bought.
I agree, I had mine for about 6 years now.
Good for gaming?

That story about resetting the Wi-Fi was hilarious! Definitely been there
Who hasn't?

I have a linksys e1200. I've had it for like 2 years but now I have to reset quite frequently for like the past 6 months

Look at the TP-Link ones. Super dirt cheap. Not bad too.
I would probably go for the new linksys router that just came out not to long ago.

Nice, clean windows Cnet.
this guy looks baked
If I have wifi thru AT&T and I decide to get a better router, would it cost me more on my bill to have that better performing router?
I bought the dlink hd media router 2000 and all i can say it loses connectivity pretty frequently, i reset the router about 3 times a day (not kidding). But other than that works good. no other problems with it.
I bought my router on 2007. I think an upgrade would be good.

What's the warranty of this router? Looking into it...
Which router will not cause any wifi drop?
Would you have to notify internet providers about the new router?
I belive not.
no
I've never really understood how a router can be faster than another when the speed you choose relies on your internet provider. Can someone explain this?
When you are transferring files from one computer to the other router speed makes a big diff .. especially on large files like movies
Technically not speed, its the bandwidth they are talking about. Something like this goo.gl/9PNc2u look at the table in this page.
Thanks everyone, gotcha.

I think CNET did not really hit the nail on the head with regard to best value for money. The number one router, the Asus RT-N56U has a lower network speed and roughly equivalent if not fewer features when compared to the TP-Link TL-WDR4300. Compare it for yourselves and see for yourselves.
HD stands for heavy duty. Right?

Cool
for number 2 why would IPv6 be a plus side, who needs more that the 4 billion addresses that ipv4 provides for a home network, plus its a pain in the ass to set up and to subnet
Avoid Dlink 605L at all costs; it gives up after a couple hours; requires constant restarts
...aaand none of them has a function similar to airplay where you can plug your audio in to the router, i guess it's exclusive to apple which sucks...
actually if you want that, then just get an apple tv and hook it up on your existing network.
or you can really go big and buy a receiver with airplay built in.
I didn't know that, thanks for the advice
There is also the Sonos Play system.
TP-Link, gets the job done and comes with LTE support...
cool
I have an e1200
They are talking about a 1gig speeds in 2014. 26 of October 2019 here and i am watching this on 15mbps internet from a greedy cable company.
Man they really missed the mark, what about Microtik routers? Best routers by far but maybe not for the lay person. routerboard.com/RB951G-2HnD
Because Dong Ngo

I've got an ASUS and my 5 year old Netgear outperforms it. Avoid it.
trying to watch this video when the stupid ads keep pausing and playing because of my internet.
