LoL it’s Chanalyzer a free software that requires a crazy expensive channel analyzer antenna to properly work. I used it in college, could never afford one out of class though.

the data you get to your house through the cables on telephone lines is analog, the modem converts that signal to digital, then passes it on to the router that figures out who he data was meant for and sends it their way.

On 5ghz I'm getting full range, speed test shows full 200mbps up and down with 25ms latency. But apps like Facebook, whatsapp, other 3rd party apps are running very slow. Although youtube is running good.
But on 2.4ghz every app is running fine even tho on 2.4ghz speed is limited to 40mbps.
What can be the reason for this?

I little chrome stick that plugs into a HDMI port in a TV/Monitor (I Think). You will need to connect it to a Wifi source and download the App on your phone or the Chrome Extension. You then connect to it and it will show what on your phone/tablet/PC onto that screen the Chrome Cast is plugged into.
So yes, it will work in Romania you you can get it there :~)

Hunt3rNz Ofc I know the difference, but I thought the wireless was capable of the theoretical 1gbps but its more like 100mbps. They never advertise that shit, and its so sparse around the country, I've never actually tested anything in real life. However, 802.11ac theoretical speeds exceed 1gpbs, but idk if anyone has achieved this irl.

I got scammed when buying a new router because the WAN port was 100mbs and it advertised 433+300Mbps.
Fuckin 162MB wireless...here in Australia my ethernet wired connection maxes out at 3.5MB xD

Hey Linus, just like you did several videos on multiple ethernet cables between two network devices, maybe you should do a video on a triple-band WiFi device connected to a PC with 3 separate WiFi PCI/PCIe cards all shared through the OS. That would be very interesting to see.

Hello Linus. You talked about 5GHz and 2.4GHz. My laptop uses 2.4GHz wifi connection but my router supports both 5GHz and 2.4GHz. Is it vise to change my laptop's wifi card to that supports a 5GHz wifi and will it benefit me anyway
5ghz is faster generally
Well it depends on several factors whether or not its worth the upgrade to you. If your current card supports the ac standard then you are already achieving max wireless speed. The 5ghz band is not any faster than the 2.4ghz band, its just a separate signal you can use like having two different wireless access points setup that won't interfere with one another.
What the 5ghz band can offer you is a separate dedicated wireless connection just for your laptop, will leaving all other devices on the 2.4ghz (phones, tablets , Fire Stick, Chromecast etc etc. Assuming you have many wireless devices this could result in a noticeable improvement in speed and network/internet stability for the laptop.
I don't think I've ever seen a router with antennas before irl. I've always just been give a box that does stuff by my ISP.

My $200 laptop and $50 phone has 2.4 and 5.0 GHz support
My OnePlus also has 5 GHz. Though it's not that useful since it's only really great if you are cuddling the router.

Hey Linus, could you do a video comparing Haswell, Haswell-E, and Broadwell? I was a little confused when I saw i7-5820k specing a Haswell-E (and not Broadwell), I always thought that the generation number (3xxx, 4xxx, 5xxx...) applied to that gen architecture.

Hey Linus all good points. But I want to add for your viewers. That polite conversation share between devices is not only for your WiFi but your neighbors WiFi as well even if they are on two different networks. The objective is to have a clean and efficient spectrum space with as few collisions as possible. I remember when I worked at uverse as a technical support specialist my trainer told us not to use the recommended channels 1, 6 and 11. He said the reason why is because everyone else is using them and even auto channels tend to frequent those channels as well. Seem only logical right? Problem is he was ignoring the side band cross talk. The reason 1, 6 and 11 is recommended is because of the size of the bandwidth on the frequencies those three channels do not overlap eliminating cross talk. That said you are more likely to have a better communication on a congested channel because you are participating in conversation rather than trying to talk over a conversation because of side band noise. So I hope that is informative for people who think they are clever two avoid congested channels. You are not and you are only hurting the radio space and creating more congestion for yourself and everyone else.
Hey Linus I had a question we recently "upgraded" our interent by connecting 2 broadbands to act as one. But I thought it would be better to just upgrade the modem and have 2 broadbands acting separately so there would be less traffic. Do you think that's correct?
I'll never go back to Wireless. Even if I'm 1ft from the wireless router. I've just installed Augmented Category 6. Wi-Fi will never be as fast or responsive as a hardwired connection. The only time I'll use Wi-Fi if for my Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
I spotted a mistake, you should have displayed 600Mb instead of 600MB. You would never get 600MB point to point, you would get 75MB/s on a 600Mb connection, which is what you should have put. Dont wanna be 'that guy' but lots of people make this mistake.

No such thing as stealing wifi. I've run my 1600 foot backbone covered with wide open Wifi Hotspots for years, no password needed. Of course, I live in the country. But if everyone did this, we would all enjoy the benefits of being able to roam everywhere away from home and get a signal anyway. Now as it is with idiots believing in the security bullcrap, the wifi and internet access is all there and paid for but nobody but the owner can use it, and he can't use anyone elses if he's away from home.
I wish someone would come out with a cheap $20 tri band router... in about 5 years they will. Right now you can get the dual bands for $20 now... but triband is extra useful because you can use the extra 5ghz radio to establish a dedicated link with the next router 200 yards away line of sight, and ditto for it back. So there really is a real world practical use for tri band routers beyond having a second wifi client connect with its own channel.
Right now its cheaper for me to buy two dual band routers than one tri band router.
Doesnt help if not all youre routers and wlan stick & motherboards are able to support the speed.
Besides the Line in youre road wont be faster nore will it have a effect on how much everybody in youre road uses the band. Traffic will only increas in the future. Telekom providers are waiting for tax payers to pay the lines. Till then it will only get slower caus traffic goes up. Streaming, Netflix ect.! Anyone else notice that there's only two band actually at play here, not three? True Tri-band will be achieved by adding 60Ghz to the already existing 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz radios.
5150MHz & 5250MHz are the 2 5GHz bands. So, combined with the 2.4GHz, makes 3 bands. The router juggles between multiple channels of these bands.
So I have an AC wireless adapter for my gaming desktop. (The D-Link 171 model to be exact.) My ISP provided their router, that I can't change mind you. The router supports AC and G(?) or N(?), whatever the one before AC is. Long story short, that adapter is the only one that supports AC. The router my ISP gave me gives up two frequencies. The 2.4GHz and the 5GHz. My question is, it worth having only 1 device connected to the 5GHz SSID? I hope this makes sense to someone.
Hello!! Here is a question that I can't find an answer to. It is about switches (and the bits that connect into it). Say I have a normal LTE router (the thing you are talking g about in this video) with 4 1 gigabit ports. 4 is not enough if you have a NAS, PS4, a TV box and an AP upstairs (like those Ubiquiti AP AC ones). I want to get a switch and connect my NAS (which has 4 ports with link aggregation) to the router (use 3 of the 4 ports to get higher speeds on the NAS) and use the 4th port for the switch for my other devices. What is the speed that I will get out of the switch ports? 1gbps per port or 250mbps per port (if it is a 4 port switch) or 1gpbs less what the other devices are using? Are you confused yet? Me too!!!
I have 2 tri-band routers, d-link dir-890l and Linksys EA9200, both are slow as hell. I think the triband routers are too under powered to run 3 bands, they only have a 1gig processor and 256 mb of ram, most dual band routers use mu-mimo with 1.4 gig processor and 512 mb of ram. I found the mu-mimo routers blow away the tribands in speed and distance.
I have a quad band router I am not joking I is 4 freaking bands on my router and 4 networks 1: 2.4Ghz(password) 2: 5Ghz(password) 3: 2.4Ghz Guest(open) 4: 5Ghz Guest(open) but we only use the first two the one with passwords
so why does a ASUS RT-AC87U say 2400 megabits per second. and does this mean i should go with a the RT-AC68W and save a 100 bucks if ill only ever get 1900 megabits per second anyway?
I was using a 2.4ghz adapter and only receiving 90mbps from the 150mbps plan I purchased. Now I got a 5.0ghz adapter and I'm getting 155mbps-160mbps
Yeah, residential ADSL2+ speeds in Australia can barely break 10Mbps. I don't think we even have to worry about Wireless N or AC, unless it's a university or business fibre connection. (Despite I still run Wireless N)

Ok so like in an apartment when you have so much wifi traffic so close together. If Apt 1 has a Roku streaming & Apt 2 has a iPhone doing whatever. Does the router in Apt1 have to wait until the channel is clear in order for it to talk to the Roku is Apt 2 routers is talking? Hope that makes sense.

Why do people complain about the true max speed being lower than the total capacity. I've never heard anyone having higher than 1 Gb/s.
I am new to this stuff, if you got multiple frequencies and had 1 Ethernet connection and a few wireless connections would the Ethernet connection be stronger vs 1 frequency having a few wireless connections and 1 Ethernet connection?
