Better than 3H's combat arts if you ask me Magic looks especially good in RD. Idk what happened with 3H's but the effects just look....low res? Not sure if it's the artstyle or if the assets truly are lower quality despite being 2 gens of hardware ahead, lol. I was really disappointed tbh The camera work in RD is also really good. I think that could be a big part of why they still look so good as well. Even early spells like Thani and Ellight look epic thanks to good angles. Heck even the map animations are still pretty to see even for melee Perhaps the devs felt that RD's magic dragged on too long so they started shortening them all in the later games. But I still think they could look a little better in 3H...

During the start of Elincia's gambit; someone thought it'd be funny to attack her. suffice it to say they made a mistake; and she crit killed them with her Mend Staff. probobly my favorite bit that Clerics can attack back; even if it's just simple chip damage.
When my Soren became an Archsage, I put her next to the boss in the lava chapter and equipped a heal. With 0 hit from the boss, I got his staff rank from E to A in 5 minutes :D
I knew there was a reason I brought her to the tower. Wait, the reason was that I just love mages in general. Soren came too... But hey, Ilyana is by far the best one-dimensional gimmick character in the franchise, so it’s all right.

@@ryanprjgamingchannel9437There's a few tiles near Dheginsea that awards +10 Def, so if you let Ilyana stand on a Def+10 tile, and have Ilyana's Def maxed out(25), you can make her Def 35, so she will take 40 damage instead of 50 damage. That's how I did it without support. With support, you can have "Black tide" from Kurthnaga and make the damage received be 35 instead of 40. And than there's elemental bonus from support buddy so you can either let Ilayna's Rexbolt do a bit more damage (fire affinity is a good option), or you can use Defence bonus from one of the other elements (light affinity at A rank gives +3 defence, since Ilyana naturally has light as her affinity).
I always use Ilyana for Radiant Dawn. Not that I have any kind of illusion that she is an S tier unit; but she is the only one who can weird the SS rank lightning tome. As a result she has a unique niche that no one else can fill.
But that's the beauty of Fire Emblem - it's not about what units are objectively good, it's about how much effort and care you're willing to put into the units you want to raise. I always take Iliyana, Mia and Nephenee to the Tower simply because I like them the most, not because they're S tier units. Raising them from plebs to legendary warriors is the fun of the game for me.

She can become a good unit with stat enhancing items and Bonus EXP, but given her character (or lack thereof), design, availability, growths and initial hurdle to overcome in comparison to the rest of the 70+ characters, especially the mandatory ones in the Tower, why bother with Meg of all people?
For real though, Ily got screwed on availability in Radiant Dawn. Either you use her for the Dawn Brigade chapters, which leaves them underlevelled and their chapter 3 maps nearly unbeatable... Or you wait with using her until she joins the Greil Mercs, at which point she is *the* lowest levelled unit in the army, even worse than freaking Rolf and Mist

Problem is, during the first part of the game where you play exclusively as them you get two types of units: The underleveled and weak Dawn Brigade units, and then some strong Path of Radiance units like Ilyana that collectively can trivialize most maps. Problem is that many of those units leave the Dawn Brigade following those first chapters, which means that if you poured all you exp into those guys who left like Ilyana, the Dawn Brigade is left with an underleveled shell of an army, that can't even scratch the lategame foes. You need to use those weak units, because there comes a point in the game when Ilyana, Tormod, Nailah and several other strong units can't help Micaiah and her scrub crew, so they need all the exp they can get

Or is it that when she re-joins later it’s too late to make her a good unit?
The thing about the Dawn Brigade is that about half of them are actually pretty useable, IF TRAINED. Nolan/Edward/Volug/Aran are the big ones, Nolan especially. Their issue is the tact that you have to build them up from the bottom while the returning characters usually start prepromoted with good stats, except Jill but she has potential transfer bonuses and being the best class in the game helping her lol. Typically the optimal thing to do is to pick like 2-3 Dawn Brigade units to train up+Sothe and Micaiah and completely leave the rest in the dust lmao
I actually like the no battle animations more, as you get a feel of the unit actually doing something compared to just having the character "move into the target and watch their health go down." With the magic coming down or the unit actually hitting the target it just is more satisfying (and also attack skills have their extra animation in there as well for added bonus)
Two things I learned: 1. Keep (player) Dracoknights away crom thunder magic 2. Ilyana can counter one of the hardest bosses in this game, Dheginsea the Dragon King (who is weak to thunder like all Dragon laguz)
Ilyana is so fun of a unit to use in PoR. She became my best unit there and destroyed every boss for me after chapter 20, save for the Black knight and Ashnard for obvious reasons. Hell the priest chapter became a call walk with double meteor Ilyana on the boss. Nothing else could withstand her power tho and I plan on doing the same thing with her again in RD (so far she still proves to be amazing for me)
just beat radiant dawn for the first time a few weeks ago with ilyana at level 20 fully promoted, having all stats but luck capped, and being #1 in battles and victories 🙏

In POR: Thunder is strong against Dragons, but you don't come across many dragons in this one. In RD: Same thing, but thunder is also strong against draco lords, but thunder tomes are more heavy and a bit less damaging than fire and wind tomes.
I've gotten Ilyana, Fiona, Astrid, Aran, Laura, Rhys, Pelleas, and Meg to the tower and they're all pretty decent in top tier. Double Bow Astrid and Rexaura Laura (although I forged a 20 crit 8 mt light tome for her that is great with wrath as well) were standouts with all the magic and ranged enemies.
I wish we could attack with staves, that way we get to save up on their uses while benefiting from the fact they're equipable now. If we can't have the staff users heal our units and still have their swords or tomes to defend themselves, at least let us play with the smashing sticks, Intelligent Studios!
Honestly, Ilyana is actually the best person to feed kills to in the Dawn Brigade, she legitimately has the most potential to be useful. If only to call down Gwen's wrath and purging the dragons.
i brought her into the tower in my first ever playthrough of RD. i think having done the whole save carryover thing from PoR gave her the beef she needed to have enough bulk to take one hit from dheginsea i let her have the final hit
I really love these! Your editing skills are godlike I'd love to see Leonardo, Tormod, or Aran if you were interested in any of those units. If not I'm curious what you use for recording so I could maybe try to do something for them sometime in terms of strats and viability
Hey thanks! I just use OBS to record because its free and for editing I use adobe premier pro because its a one time purchase instead of monthly payments. I most likely will end up doing another Radiant Dawn run at some point and I do like those units.
It was on hard mode, it just turns out the flare healing is just that good with resolve, I was surprised how easy it became when she got going because until she hit tier 3 i could only set her up a kill every turn.
White tide and full damage support with a capped magic illyana wielding rexbolt does exactly 0 damage to Ashera. Sad Day....... Ashera and her bonkers 50 res
@@jimmyfe6746 I don't understand Capped Ilyana has 39 Mag + 5 Mag from White Pool + 1(.5) Atk from Fire/Water/Dark Support + 12 Mt from Rexbolt = 57 Dmg which should be 7 against Ashera unless I missed something...
@Brandon Haar easily carries every run for me, he was my #1 unit in my last run of RD. No doubt the best when it comes to stats, movement, and RNG. Only thing is, Haar can't heal allies from across the map like Ilyana can. I like Ilyana a lot because she deals insane damage to melee and casters both.

Rexbolt is still the coolest looking magic animation in FE so this is definitely all worth it.
