Except for the fact that dungeons never existed underground in the medieval period. Dungeon comes from the word Donjon, which was the tallest tower of the castle. Later they became underground, but that's like 16th or 17th century type thing. As for hay, they had that in the halls and taverns too.

Actually ''good' castles back then were awful. @@naomigwolfe8112 That isn't true either. Castle walls tend to be really thick. If they were as thick as three bricks, then a trebuche would'vd demolished it quite it easily. Typically around 20 to less men. Alao you do forget that they didn't live in the castle walls itself, but probably a structure build on the inside where it had normal wall thicknesses, and that stone is a good thermal conductor. Hate to be that guy, but the elevation of the castle matters for two important reasons: Restrict access to the castle to a couple or hopefully one road that can then be heavily fortified, and being higher than the surrounding area. That includes mountains around you. Sure, you built the castle on raised earth, but you also built it at the foot of a mountain thats much taller than your castle. Meaning you'd have to make your walls higher than the mountain (a.k.a. ridiculous) or its just a massive weakness to the defenses if people dont have to engineer a way to get over your walls. They just gotta climb up then climb down, from an area that doesnt even have battlements or towers big enough to reach the enemy before they're already descending down on you. Either build it on top of a normal mountain that is the highest in its area, or build the castle on rasied earth in the middle of a flat biome like a plains, so that you're guaranteed to have the high ground. Otherwise your castle just has a glaring flaw
I have only recently started building in Minecraft. But I saw this book a few years ago and was fascinated by it. So when I saw it again, I bought it. As a Minecraft newbie, it was gold dust. I built loads of the projects, adapting and mixing stuff up as I gained confidence. I have since seen many Minecraft building books, but still think this the best. Quality builds, clear instructions, loads of useful things that can be repurchased for other things.

"The way mojang intended"
Proceeds to use world edit
I was thinking the same thing
He used Minecraft default commands (fill/replace etc) not worldedit
He used structure blocks, no mods, no world edit , u can get them in vanilla.

"Build it on the high ground, so you have an advantage on attackers."
**Builds next to mountain**
Thats actually quite historical, mountains are pain to climb with even the smallest army, so it wouldn't be a viable route of attack, but effectively functions as a natural wall
