- 2002 Mini Cooper S R53 cluster Kombi 2 not working and various faults.
Because of Cluster Kombi 2 not working we had:
No RPM
No Outside Temperature
Cruise control on light not showing
and or any other information that Cluster 2 shows.
Also dash lights didn't work both clusters , Trip counter would reset automatically every time the ignition was cycled, heater blower motor would stay on with ignition off when position 1 to 4 was selected, central locking only unlocked the vehicle but didn't work when locking it, steering wheel control would stay lit at all times, I think I wrote down every single fault this time.
Fault codes :
5E16 ABS-DSC CAN connection to instrument cluster
67 Kombi (instrument cluster) CAN bus no message 1 from KOM2
30 KOMBI (instrument cluster) Control unit fault
40 KOMBI (instrument cluster) K bus communication fault

Thank you for this video you saved me alot of time. I ended up just removing plugs and soldering all wires together one by one as plugs on mine were super corroded.
Dude… this video saved my life . I had checked my BCM etc and it was dry. Checked the connector you did and have 2 broken pins… the cluster red/yellow and another pin. And it’s really badly corroded

How's she goin'? Great to see you posting again!!! This was a very good job of trouble shooting. And then you did a top notch job cleaning the corrosion on the connector and repairing the damaged one. I'm sure the air bag fault could be corrosion related too!! Take care !!!

Mate issues were having issues the dash lights (orange lights) are not illuminating, checked fuses etc no joy, which pin controls the illumination on the cluster, only illumination we have is on the steering wheel controls, cheers in advance
What are you using to read the codes and reset the airbags lights? What device's or programs?
Good job - but .. I guess you could not get the information of what is was that cable for. I saw your video because I simply cannot find information proper to fix my R56 .. seem the K-Can bus is not connected and the CAN bus is working .. so no more Tachometer and the A/C clutch does not engage. Is there a fuse on the Bus lines?.

Great video! Did the same. In my car the red cable with yellow spots was missing. Cleaned and an fixed everything. But my car can’t save mileage or any information like consume amount. And the needles dance as well. Hope you can give me a advise. Thx.
i currently have a 2005 mini cooper r50 and the transmission is not working as it should my car comes with a cvt transmission and when scanning the vehicle it shows me the code p1611 which means no communication with the transmission module. the currents and earths are fine, the voltage is equally good, but when I saw the can bus diagram, I realized that my car should have the steering angle sensor and it does not have it in the diagram, it is seen that before the steering wheel angle sensor there is the of the transmission and since my car does not have that sensor, the ecu cannot communicate with the transmission. the scanner tells me that there is no communication between the cluster and the bcm and it is because there is an electrical power cable that goes from the fuse box to the bcm that is in an open circuit. At first I changed 4 different transmission modules but the problem continued and now I am sure that by not having the steering wheel angle sensor there is the problem of lack of communication between the ecu and the transmission module.

the bcm is the main module of the k bus system and it communicates with the instrument panel and it may be that since the vehicle lacks the original stereo that I believe comes with a resistance for communication, the problem could be there. these vehicles have a can bus communication network and the two main modules are the instrument cluster l and the ecu or s2000 each of these have a resistance of 120 homies and when both are connected the resistance drops to 60 homies in order to be able to communicate with the other modules like transmission module and steering wheel angle sensor

I can see that the stereo is not the original of the vehicle from there there may already be a problem with the k bus system since that stereo is not part of the k bus system there could be communication problems between the other components that are part of

So I’ve no lights. Indicators. Hazards. Windows. Must be similar. A facelift R56 on a 2012. Guessing similar.
Unfortunately it will probably be your FRM module .
