Love the review. I've been on mine for a few months now. One thing is not here in the review or website and wrong on the amazon link and missing from the Hover-1 website. It weighs much more than the claimed 31 lbs. It is a 44.8 lb scooter still good range, speed, and specs for the price. But it is a lot heavier than I was expecting to lug up 5 stories worth of stairs, still doable though.
We weighed it at 45.2lbs (1 minute 7 seconds into the video the stat is on the left). Oddly the Hover 2.0 has a claimed weight of 36lbs and we weighed it at 31.6 lbs, so that one is lighter than spec! -Paul th-cam.com/video/TsmUmj8_Wt4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=3721L4KpEGi6VPba&t=67

So I’m planning to buy this scooter. Your review on this was pretty helpful as always:) .But I’m a bit confused on few things 1): is there any way to know the batch version ? Should I just mail hover team and ask ? My friend got this like 2 weeks ago and it didn’t seem to have zero start. 2) is the breaking system a concern or rather, an inconvenience? Does the new batch solves this ? 3)pneumatic tires - this is a bit general question but the what stuff do I need to invest into to maintain the pneumatic tires ? Do I need a pump and a psi checker ? How often would I need to check the tire pressure, is it okay if I would not do it for like a month or 2 and just go to a nearby cycle shop? 4) is there an updated review coming? Lastly I appreciate you making this videos, thanks :)
Great questions! Unfortunately there isn’t a way that I know of to identify which ones are the new ones. I think the new firmware hasn’t hit yet though. The braking system is a matter of taste. They’re still plenty strong. If you like to ease into braking long before a stop light then you’ll notice it. If you like to wait and stop all at once, you may not noticed the difference. I do a little update in the Hover-1 Journey 2.0 review at about 4:20 into the clip below. For tire maintenance, the most important thing is to air up at least once a week. Scooter tires don’t hold much air, so a small change in volume = a big change in pressure. It eliminates half of the flats if you keep your pressure up. You can also pre-install Armor Dilloz tire sealant. If you do get a flat, it’s a bit of an ordeal on any scooter to get the wheels off. Getting the tires off and on is much like a bicycle though, and some bicycle shops may be willing to take it on. -Paul th-cam.com/video/o5UG24Uz844/w-d-xo.htmlsi=uVl60dr7ApEawb0W
I bought this all due to this review....and I have to say, I don't regret it at all. I plan on adding suspension, but stock as is (got it on sale for $400), it's a beast. I rather take my time upgrading this than paying 1k for dual motor.
My friends got the Laotie Ti30 on sale from banggood for $750 shipped from USA. The deal isn't active anymore as they don't sell them for that cheap, but it's a great deal if you know how to keep up your scooter.
How would you compare the Hover-1 Journey Max to the Hover-1 Renegade? The Renegade has Dual 450W Motors (so I would think it would be even better for hills, which is crucial for me). The Renegade can be bought for allot less than the Journey Max ($303-$400 range). Appreciate your thoughts as I'm trying to decide which one to buy.
The specs look impressive. I haven’t tested it yet. I’m not sure why the price is discounted so low, but it looks legit since you can get that price from hover-1 themselves. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuideThanks for the quick reply Paul. The Renegade is 50 lb., so very heavy. Maybe that's why is dropping in price. I keep leaning towards the Journey Max (even though it costs more), but I'm older & would prefer a seat. Do you have any thoughts on any aftermarket seats that could mount on the Journey Max?
@@johnnyjoefishing3344 the specs on the Hover page show not a big difference in weight: Renegade 46.3 lbs, Journey Max 44.77 lbs. So, only a difference of 1.53 lbs.
Would like to see you review the Hover-1 Renegade which looks very similar but has a claimed 900w dual motor with a 54V/11.6Ah (626 Wh) battery vs the 36V/13.2Ah (475 Wh) on the Journey Max. The Renegade is currently on sale for less than the Journey Max on the Hover website. Difference in weight between the two scooters is only 1.53 lbs.
I just bought it, hill climbing is a bit tough with the Hiboy S2. Although I do have worries about the braking since I see the reviews as well as posts on forums complaining about it. How'd you over come that obstacle, or is it just people's inexperience? I've seen your tips videos and I'm assuming that moving your center of mass would remedy the issue.
If you just got it then you probably have one with the improved brakes. They changed the brakes after the ESG review came out and the new ones are much smoother. -Paul
Thanks for the review. Just ordered mine from Amazon on sale for right around $425 after tax. At that price, it looks like it beats everything performance-wise. I don't mind the tubed tires if it means a bit more comfort than solid ones.
Hover destroyed the competition IMO. If I were in the market for a cheap last-mile commuter scooter this would be it, hands down. Dual motors is essential if you want to handle any kind of hill at all. It's underpowered, but that's to be expected on a cheap last-mile commuter.
How would this compare to the Inmotion Climber? Perhaps the Journey Max would offer better value? I'm in Australia so it's a little difficult to compare pricing. Great video. Thanks.
How would the hill capability compare with a Ninebot Pro Plus ? Looking to understand if a 800 w rear wheel can get same hill climb results as a dual motor 800 watt.
So glad you like the video! Performance wise the Journey Max destroys the KQi2 with about 4 more miles of range, 4 more mph top speed and a 0 to 15 time of 4.1 seconds vs the KQi2 Pros 7.6 seconds. Similarly with the hill climb test the Journey Max gets up our hill in 12.4 seconds vs the Niu’s 20.3 That said, NIU has a longer warranty and nicer build quality, but you’re more likely to “out grow” the performance of the KQi2 pro sooner. So they’re both great scooters, but it depends on which suits you better. -Paul

This is a ton of scooter for the price, just imagine if it was made by Segway it would be almost 3x as much $$$ just because of the Segway name. The acceleration is nice, I love my WKGTP, but it's huge, this would make a nice and cheap alternative when I don't feel like breaking out the Kaabo. I'll wait 5-6 months to see how these hold up for people and might go pick one up. And if I've learned anything on Reddit, there's gonna be a top secret speed limiter wire, and if you cut it you'll unlock a top speed of 30mph. I'm kidding guys, don't go cutting wires if you buy this. And don't listen to people on Reddit who will tell you all you need to do is cut a wire and you'll get a massive speed boost. Also for people who've never rode a scooter, unless you're a daredevil 18-20mph's not bad at all. To me it feels faster than it is, my WK can go 60 and I usually putt around going maybe 30, a lot of time I'm cruising at 20-25.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide that's what I'm really leaning towards, I'm not in Oakland anymore so I don't have to worry about hills out here in coastal Georgia, everything is pretty much downhill both ways or flat. It really comes down to range and quality/reliability.

I got this today but it still has the annoying auto cruse control and requires push to start. do u know how to update the firmware? i cant find out how
@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide that would be a huge bummer. Just seems like a firmware update, will be a no go if they don't offer updates. I'll have to return this one and get something with proper support. I love it aside from that, if I could just tune the regen breaking, disable cruse and push to start it would be great. It's got the best specs on the market for the price, if they could only offer minor updates they would crush it. I work as an Amazon delivery driver and drive the rivian edv, got this to help with private driveways that are too small for my huge edv along with apartments. The cruse control feels sketchy, when it turns on just before u plan to slow down and u keep going, it's a lil unsafe. It's insane to me that that's set by default and there's no way to turn it off. Im sure I could adjust to it but I feel like it's not tuned well.
@@batmangsxr300 that's why I bought it! The listing even said Hover-1 Journey 2.0 Max and it was sold directly by amazon, not a 3rd party. does 2.0 not mean its the updated version? i dont understand
This review really downplayed the lack of suspension of this scooter. As someone who owned this model and rode it in Oakland as well. Tried to ride it up to Merritt College which has a pretty comparable level of steepness as San Francisco streets and this was like riding on a shopping cart. And of course, it got a flat since it has tube tires. It absolutely has great acceleration with the dual motors, but the braking was still non linear depending on how fast you were traveling. This scooter is meant for warehouse smooth terrain unless you don't mind feeling like you've just operated a jackhammer for an hour after you finish riding. This review seemed to really make sure they technically didn't lie, while making sure they didn't upset the manufacturer. As someone who scooters in and through Oakland, I'm now questioning why they don't test the scooters locally rather than taking them to San Francisco where the riding is a bit more sanitized.
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide You could say that for a lot of products. This scooter has a great thumb throttle. It's the reason I chose the Apollo City Pro 2024 based on your review. This scooter has great acceleration and handles hills quite well ( I took it all around UCB). But all of that is negated if the riding experience is nearly unrideable due to the lack of suspension. And that is the major problem with this review. It highlights all these other features and totally downplayed how all those features are undone by the riding experience in normal areas such as streets, parking lots and sidewalks. This scooter is designed for riding in a warehouse or a grocery store with super smooth floors or maybe the freshest of paved roads. Even the painted markings in the streets cause significant bumps. I could even go on how its lack of water intrusion rating was upsold by down playing that no manufacturer of scooters warranties damage caused by water. Why on other scooter reviews is the water IP rating pushed as such a great feature?
Switch to real 10-inch tires. It makes a huge difference in ride quality and, partly, corrects the braking response. Plus, the speedometer is now accurate at top speed, 22.1mph GPS verified speed.
This thing has been working well on the Ed Koch QB bridge bike lane and all throughout Manhattan when I've used it stock. I agree the breaking could be better at lower speed though.
I used to have the Hover 1 Renegade, but sold it after 8months as I also have the 23 Apollo city pro. For the price, it's a much better scooter than this journey max. Don't know why Hover 1 isn't pushing it, or why no reviewer has taken any interest in it. It has dual motors, rear suspension, turn signals, Bluetooth speakers, 8.5in wide deck with led deck lighting, cruise control, all for 399usd. As much as I like the Apollo city pro, the folding mechanism, kickstand and led front light are all inferior to the Renegade's, even though the Apollo is 3.5 times more expensive.
This might seem unrelated but does anyone know how to install new break pads the right away idk how to put the metal piece that going to connect it in the right away anywhere on the internet
I’m having a hard time picturing which piece you’re having trouble with, but here’s a tutorial I made about how to adjust disc brakes on an electric scooter. -Paul th-cam.com/video/1N2AS-Eth5o/w-d-xo.htmlsi=jDX0FXasJEuj_u6e
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I mean the the breaks pad themselves not the outer adjuster part when they wear down you gotta remove them , I heard this piece is to keep them in place but I'm not sure how too? it's the kukurin g2 max I have.
I didn’t realize the video editor put it up as degrees. Sorry about that. It’s % definitely not degrees. I should have caught that during the first draft. -Paul
All of the manuals say that. Unfortunately it’s good advice for most scooters, even the ones with IP ratings. Some can handle light rain, but always stay away from deep puddles and downpours and make sure to get the scooter dry when you get home. I wish I could ride them in storms the way I ride my motorcycle. None of the scooters cover water damage under warranty :-( -Paul
2 paralele motor give only 250 but twice torgue.. dont spit BS numbers! oif yourse even single motor can eat 750W till start cooking.. 2 are speparatre that power input. with beter eficienvy and bit of lose cause by second esc
I’m sorry, I don’t understand your question. Which number do you think I have mis-quoted. I have a degree in applied physics a minor in mathematics and about 10,000 hours of experience testing, repairing and reviewing scooters, but I still make mistakes sometimes. So I’m curious if you’ve found a mistake somewhere. -Paul
Don't buy this scooter if you want good range. Also the build quality is not good whatsoever. This company has zero part availability on their website, and they don't respond to support requests. The only positive thing I could say about this scooter is the acceleration, speed and hill climbing ability. Everything else was terrible
What sort of range did you get? I covered 20.4 miles on our range test. When I compare its range against the typical range for all of the other scooters we've tested at about this price the average is about 15 real world miles. So this has about 33% more than the typical scooter for its price. I've been strongly encouraging them to please stock more parts on their site. They tell me they are actively working on it, but I'll keep bringing it up every time I speak with them. -Paul
@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuideI got 15 miles on the dot each ride, maybe 18 on a good day. It's not a bad scooter for the money but I don't think I would recommend it. Biggest reason is for the lack of customer support as well as build quality. I could be a rare case, I'm not too sure. I returned mine and got a deal on Amazon for the Niu kqi3 max for $600. What a steal. I appreciate everything you do for the scooter community Paul! This is the best scooter channel on YT.

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide Thanks! I guess a better question for you is for a short commute in SF with average hills, is dual motor needed and how many watts would you recommend? Hover-1 also has the Renegade dual motor model that is stronger and cheaper, thoughts?
Just a heads up, I called customer service asking about the updates and they had no idea what I was talking about.
Being updated for sure!
I got this today but it still has the annoying auto cruse control and requires push to start. do u know how to update the firmware? i cant find out how
I’m not sure it can be updated once a scooter is manufactured. It sounds like the updated version hasn’t hit the market yet. I’ll check. -Paul
Shoot I just ordered one. I saw in other comments they updated and fixed these issues...
@@batmangsxr300 that's why I bought it! The listing even said Hover-1 Journey 2.0 Max and it was sold directly by amazon, not a 3rd party. does 2.0 not mean its the updated version? i dont understand
Have you heard back from them at all? Im waiting on a response from them@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide
What are the dimensions folded and unfolded?

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuidethey do not have them listed, I looked already
It’s a budget scooter and has lots of features for what you are paying for it.
Inmotion Climber for the win!!
We should be reviewing that after new year!
-Paul

@@ESG-ElectricScooterGuide I mean the the breaks pad themselves not the outer adjuster part when they wear down you gotta remove them , I heard this piece is to keep them in place but I'm not sure how too? it's the kukurin g2 max I have.
i like the jerny max it just loks beter
cool! Thanks for stopping by.
Does anyone know about a budget scoooter with a top speed of 15 mph

I didn’t realize the video editor put it up as degrees. Sorry about that. It’s % definitely not degrees. I should have caught that during the first draft.

Torque please? Because that’s what gets you uphil__
Yeah, a little heart on my comment doesn’t answer my question. Just means you don’t READ the comments.
The tires are only 8.5"
This tire spec is 8.5”, as noted in the video, but measure closer to 9” when installed. -Paul
No shocks no scooter ❤
Many other options for sure!
price is $350! for the white one right now. not going to last...
Awesome deal!
The IP rating is none existent. The manual says to avoid moisture. That's terrible!
None of the scooters cover water damage under warranty :-(

don't like 90 days warranty
Yea would be better to be longer
Amazon price is down to $431.51
Great price for sure!
-Paul
I feel like a wimpy liberal watching this video considering buying one
Scooters are cool for sure!
