Your video was so encouraging! I am definitely going to order those books, especially excited about the Rise Up one- it’s just what I was searching for last night! I’m on my tenth year homeschooling, with lots of ups and downs but morning time has always been my treasure for the years I did it, which was most of them, it keeps me wanting to homeschool! I love your picks, and even after so many years of doubting myself I see the fruits of my older children- taking their faith seriously, getting confirmed this year and becoming well rounded youth that I feel so blessed that God led me down this path, even as frail as I am and however badly I homeschool- God takes over, I can’t take credit. Thanks for sharing this video I will watch your others, you seem so peaceful and strong in your faith, good for you to take the time passing that to your children.
As a veteran homeschooling Mom and Grandma I applaud you sincerity in wanting to start your day glorifying God with your morning basket. I think all the materials you shared were great in regards to blending the faith materials, Bible, catechism, and prayer and virtue. God bless you and your little ones.
Jenna, I'm a big fan of BIS and recently came across this video. While I'm not a homeschooling mom, you always teach me something so I decoded to watch. I just have to say that you have given me encouragement to incorporate this "basket" idea as a family activity to do in the evenings after dinner or on the weekend. What a gift! I'm super excited to teach my kids that learning about our Catholic faith extends far beyond Sunday mass and it can be super fun! Thank you for sharing! I love how you do what God asks of you moment to moment....truly an I inspiration to me!
Oooooh I’m SOOO late with this video!! But am so so grateful for your content! I just started our homeschool journey and I’m so wonderfully overwhelmed with so many beautiful resources! I love our Catholic faith!! 🙏🏻⛪️
I adore all these recommendations. I'll definitely be adding some of these to my basket. I have a 6, 5, and 10 month old. Right now for morning basket we say a prayer, work on a short scripture memorization, read from a children's Bible and do a picture book while coloring or water painting. It's simple but it's my favorite part of the day!
Excited to see you’ve used More than Words w/ your kids. I’ve been debating on getting this and adding to our homeschool but wasn’t sure if content would be “Catholic friendly”. We’ve been doing Seton Religion as part of our morning basket and I like it but was looking for something a bit more fun/kid friendly. Love the Rise Up postcards for scripture memory idea. Will def have to incorporate that. There are so many awesome Evangelical Bible/religion homeschool resources but not as many Catholic ones. Majority of Catholic resources are classical and “serious school” as my kids call it. Which there is a time/place for but don’t always grab the kids attention/love/interest. Hope BIS continues to make more kid-friendly studies!
We also love the Stories of the Saints book and the Jesus Storybook Bible!! I use both in my classroom. And your face is beautiful and could never be considered offensive! ❤️
Great resources! We use a lot of stories from Catholic Heritage like Little Stories for Little folks, as a devotional and we love Seasons with the Saints. It’s living liturgical with the Saints.
Love this. You’re such an inspiration. I’m new to homeschooling and have been unhappy with our box curriculum. I’m looking for ideas to put together our own Catholic curriculum and have loved watching your video. My guess is that the giveaway is over, but nonetheless, you’ve been a great inspiration, Jenna. I’ve been following BIS for years, and actually met you in person when you ladies were in Peoria about 5+ years ago. God bless you!
Jenna! This is amazing. You are doing enough just by cultivating strong ties to Jesus and to each other with your kids. Loved seeing your morning basket. One title we always enjoy is, "A Life of Our Lord for Children" by Marigold Hunt. I've found a gentle, easy morning basket works the best for us. Prayer, singing, catechism, and one more thing (depending on what we're feeling). It's so easy for me to push it last or skip it (eek) but it has been so fruitful when we prioritize that time together.
I love this, thank you SO much! It honestly makes me feel so much better to hear you and other mamas on here say the simple is okay. I want it to be simple and beautiful for the girls, not feel frazzled! So I really appreciate hearing you say this
Thank you for this! This is such an encouragement and reminder to slow my roll in the mornings. To actively show / teach how to start the day with the Lord. ♥️
Hello, I’m so happy I came across this video. After a lot of thinking and praying I’ve decided to home school my 7 th grader. I’m a mom of five and super nervous. ( pray for me) I’m looking into a morning basket that will be beneficial from age 13- 2 years old. If you can give more ideas, please. Specially for my 12 and 13 year old. Thank you 🙏
I love that so much!!! I have loved reading one chapter of the Bible with my older girls! Or we have some favorite chapter books, a couple of them being Kira-Kira or Esperanza Rising!
Thanks for the ideas! We are starting homeschool next week for the first time ever and my schedule does have prayer/Saint of the day at the beginning but I like the ideas of having the morning basket to dive in more closely and thoroughly. This way it becomes more of a dialogue with each other and the Lord rather than another thing that needs to be checked off for the day. Thank you!
You’re so welcome!! I’m excited for you to get started homeschooling! I’ll be praying for you as you start this journey. I’m curious what main curriculum you’re using as well? 💜
@Jenna at the Present Moment Wow that means so much 🥺🙏🏻 I know it’s the most challenging route but I also know His grace is sufficient, and in knowing that I gain courage! So…no official curriculum, I have a pre-Ker and first grader (and an almost two year old). The challenge we face is that Spanish is our first language and my husband and I wanted to make sure our children are fluent in both languages, so we started with Spanish. My first grader is ready to begin transferring those literacy skills from Spanish to English and my pre-Ker will begin with all Spanish. I’m gonna use a combination of resources that I know/have from when I taught public school, also many primary bilingual teachers have good content on TeachersPayTeachers, and just making goals and using objectives from the TEKS (the knowledge and skills the state thinks little Texans should have 😊) to kinda check myself off. But some things I will have to make or translate as I go because there’s definitely a lot less material/resources for Spanish speakers. For the faith I am excited to incorporate Liturgical Living with help from Kendra Tierney’s book, the Spanish version of the Catholic sprouts podcast, beginning the day by listening to the invitatory psalm of morning prayer , pausing at noon to say the Angelus. And in general just the way we dialogue and treat each other to promote that faith filled family culture, you know? Like I could say all the prayers in the book and check em off, but at the end of the day if I don’t enter into my daily mission with love and humility then it won’t mean much to my children and I’ll end up transmitting a to-do list rather than transmitting the faith. I really liked the Saint book in your video and I think it’ll be a good addition even if I have to read it then translate 😆! I am so joyful to begin this and pray also for you, all the homeschool mommas, and myself that we remain in communion with the Lord to have discernment in choosing the path to guide our children to Him. 🤍
Thank you for this! I added the catechism and saint stories book to our Amazon cart. Love them! Also we use the Baltimore Catechism and just use the questions in the back of each chapter to try to further the discussion. We don't do any other activities with it but let me know if you find any good resources to accompany it!
Your video was so helpful! Beyond helpful! Do you have any videos or more info on the calendar you make with canva? I had to pause your video to look at your weekly calendar, I love it! I never thought about using canva to make my own. I am curious how you plan your year, week by week, month and rotating read aloud etc.
I am loving this video, Jenna! I had a desire on my heart to homeschool and discerned that throughout last year. We ended up not going that route this year, but I have been trying to arrive early to drop my first girls off so that we have a little bit of "van catechesis" at the start of the day. I began with Rise Up, and love that a lot of the other ideas you mentioned would be options as well.
Love your morning basket ! I want to start one with my 2yr old and 6 month old 💖 I’m super interested in checking out that saint book, it looks amazing !
No makeup doesn’t offend me! As long as u okay with it that’s all that matter we worry about other people stuff so much which is ridiculous if u r fine without then it’s fine beloved life I truly to short ❤!!! My morning basket/cart was so full but I took out so much for a much more slow living minimal intentional living so everything has a purpose
Not offended by your lack of makeup! But the question is...are you still loving your new Ilia products? Loved this morning basket video! Poetry has been a staple for our family’s morning time, but my boys have also really been loving art cards from Memoria Press as well!
Oooo I’m going to check out those art cards!! Haha great question about ILIA. I do like it but I RARELY wear makeup. It feels like such a commitment 😂😂😂
Loved all your ideas - thank you for sharing! I have younger kiddos and we’ve been really struggling with night times and this inspired me to do a ‘nighttime basket’! With the same ideas… That still works right?!
Are there any other books you use for saint stories since that book doesn't have all of them? I have that book and love it but am looking for more books to add so that I can read a story about a saint everyday.
A productaholic? Is that how you spell that? 😂 I fight being one of those too. Thanks for the flip through! So helpful to see what other mamas are using.
How can you get your kids to sit down and read and listen and everything without getting bored or complaining and having to be interrupted yourself with a baby 😢

@@JennaGuizar I also don't or rarely wear makeup (but sometimes like the idea of it - ha ha), so I was not offended by the lack of makeup either.

Not offended by the lack of makeup. I am offended by the lack of Mike Guizar cameos on this channel.
Hahaha I probably need to get him on here if I want anyone to stick around 😂
How can you get your kids to sit down and read and listen and everything without getting bored or complaining and having to be interrupted yourself with a baby 😢
Not offended by your lack of make up at all 😂
Hahah praise the Lord 😂😂😂
You look great and need zero makeuo
