My 11 Year Old's Pros and Cons to Homeschooling // how we decided to homeschool for the SECOND year
มุมมอง 7303 ปีที่แล้ว
I would LOVE to hear YOUR pros/cons of homeschooling! I think it's so good to remember the pros on hard days so we can lean into that and what God is doing within us through this homeschool journey. I also think it's so important to continue to have a discerning heart! God is always moving and doing something new within us, and I think it's okay for us to be open to His movement. What do YOU th...

As a veteran homeschooling Mom and Grandma I applaud you sincerity in wanting to start your day glorifying God with your morning basket. I think all the materials you shared were great in regards to blending the faith materials, Bible, catechism, and prayer and virtue. God bless you and your little ones.
Really enjoyed this flip through, I would love to use this for our morning time it looks beautiful! Thank you for doing this video
Your video was so encouraging! I am definitely going to order those books, especially excited about the Rise Up one- it’s just what I was searching for last night! I’m on my tenth year homeschooling, with lots of ups and downs but morning time has always been my treasure for the years I did it, which was most of them, it keeps me wanting to homeschool! I love your picks, and even after so many years of doubting myself I see the fruits of my older children- taking their faith seriously, getting confirmed this year and becoming well rounded youth that I feel so blessed that God led me down this path, even as frail as I am and however badly I homeschool- God takes over, I can’t take credit. Thanks for sharing this video I will watch your others, you seem so peaceful and strong in your faith, good for you to take the time passing that to your children.
Thank you so much for these. So helpful! Curious why you decided to try to go back to traditional? You said you are on a waiting list.
Oooooh I’m SOOO late with this video!! But am so so grateful for your content! I just started our homeschool journey and I’m so wonderfully overwhelmed with so many beautiful resources! I love our Catholic faith!! 🙏🏻⛪️
I’ve a 7th grader also! (8th and 10th as well). Hope your year is going well. 🙂
How can you get your kids to sit down and read and listen and everything without getting bored or complaining and having to be interrupted yourself with a baby 😢
Thanks for the video! I really appreciate it! It’s my first year homeschooling my four school aged kids (one in kindergarten) and your videos are a ton of help!!!
Oh yay I’m so so glad to hear that!!! I am praying for a beautiful year for you and your family!
What is the name of the shade for the lip color you use from Ilia?
Oh gooosh I wish I remembered!!! But I know use and love this one which is a bit easier to find, if it helps!! I wear Shore: MAYBELLINE New York Green Edition Butter Cream High-Pigment Bullet Lipstick, Shore, Coral Nude, 0.12 oz a.co/d/iSOqtLc
If you like TGTB Language Arts K you would probably love their Math K too. I also like Math w/ Confidence but it’s a little teacher heavy whereas TGTB Math is so sweet simple and honestly just fun.
Okay you guys are totally selling me on this!! I don’t know why I didn’t gravitate more towards it before! And I’m grateful you understand what I was trying to say about Math with Confidence!
I also am underwhelmed by explode the code. I still got it this year for two of my kids but I’m not really sure why 🤣. It’s basically a filler busy work while they wait to work 1:1 with me. Did you look at Simply K math from TGTB? I’m using it for my Kindergartner this year. TGTB math doesn’t work for all my kids but K is so simple and easy to modify I’m not worried at this age.
Okayyyy maybe I should try TGTB’s math! Great idea I’ll look at it!!!
Good thing is all their math downloads are free just like their language arts, so you can look through the full thing before buying, or print yourself if you want! The K is pretty simple so if she’s ahead in math you may need level 1. I flipped through it with my K and she knows the beginning lessons but further on in the book she didn’t. So we’ll probably fly through the first half and then slow down!
@@L--C you are brilliant!!! I’m going to do this!!
@@JennaGuizar glad I could help!!
YES!! I wished we started with TGTB math. I not a math person myself either but I get excited to do math with them using good and beautiful.
All of mine our littles but taking notes 📝🥰🙏🏻
Thank you Jenna ❤️ Wondering if you guys are doing coops or not or how you hand the socialize aspect for the bigger girls 🙏🏻
You mentioned in one of your recent videos about an online resource for ALS courses I believe your older daughter was doing - I can’t find the reference or the website do you remember the resource ?
Sorry it should read ASL (American Sign Language)
Yes she’s taking the class on Outschool! :)
Do you find the Not Consumed studies Catholic friendly? I’ve been intrigued by them but concerned about that aspect.
They haven’t said anything anti-Catholic at all, no! They seem fairly straightforward and non-denominational 💜💜
@@JennaGuizar thank you!
I’m going to homeschool my 3!3 year toddler, I’m nervous but excited and praying that we can hopefully put him in Catholic School but if not homeschooling will be the best option!! God bless you and your homeschooling journey!
I’m so excited for you!!! Praying 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Look at notgrass for history
I feel the same, this officially my 4th year homeschooling & I still consider myself a newbie.
Yes!!! I wonder if we will ever feel different?!
Yes! I definitely know how you feel!
Me most of the time: 😵💫😵💫🫠🫠🥸🥸
Looks like a great year ahead. I totally understand how you feel. You’re definitely not alone. Looking forward to hearing how your GR history goes. Just subscribed. I also have a channel mainly about homeschooling and happy to be able to connect here 😊
Oh thank you!! I’m excited to see your Kinder vid come out! 💜💜💜
I LOVE BJU Press for Language Arts! Clear and lessons are simple to follow. My son didn’t do well with tgatb too and had to switch from that too.
okay this is so encouraging!!! Thank you so so much!! I'm excited to do it with them <3
@@JennaGuizar Aw! Glad to hear! This year we are doing 8th grade and were so excited :)
@@mamatried_ that is so good to know. How long have you been using BJU?
@@JennaGuizar this is our second year. Last year we did 7.. I just saw your 7th grade curriculum video and we have similar choices lol. We do Saxon math too.
@@mamatried_ thank you for sharing!! Did you do BJU literature? If so, how often did you do it per week? 💜
Fear not mama! You are not alone! Lean into your calling and the Lord will guide your steps 💜
Thank you so so so much!!! You're absolutely right!!
I’m curious of BJU have heard of that, let us know how it goes ❤️
I will for sure!!!
Totally have whispers in my ear saying what are you doing ? Jenna loved your chat on catholic homeschool week. God bless youuuu Please keep sharing ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Blessings ☺️🥰🙏🏻
Oh praise God thank you so much for sharing!!!!
Don’t feel alone. I am totally with you this year. Each year, I question if we are doing the right thing with homeschooling. All 5 of the younger ones want to do full time homeschool this year. Last year the 5th and 8th grader were doing Great Hearts Online. They both told me they want to homeschool this year. This year I will be homeschooling 9th, 6th, 4th, 2nd and 1st. I am slightly freaking out! The other 3 are in college. Their school is easy for me 😂 In all reality we take it a day at a time and reevaluate what works best for our family when needed.
Well this is amazing. What a witness 😭 I’ll be praying so much for you especially in all the newness of this year. I am praying for lots of peace and grace. He gives us grace for each moment 💜
Please share if you ever find vocal/piano. My 10 year old daughter is showing a lot of interest and sings pretty good honestly. Thanks for sharing this video! Lots of good stuff ❤️
Yes I totally will!!
Don’t feel alone! We’re just cruising through with plenty of prayers 🤣 thanks for sharing!
Yes!!!! 🙌🏽🙏🏽🫠
What are you most looking forward to using this year?
We are starting TGTB pre-k this year and I anticipate dipping into K-prep with them too so I’m really excited :)
I loved their Kindergarten Prep!!!
That was great! Thank you for sharing ☺️ I'm excited to see the kindergarten curriculum, my son will be in kindergarten next year.
amazing!!! I'll try to get to that one next!
Also, because I love finding Catholic homeschool resources, Our Lady of the Rosary Family Catechism is a new completely free family style catechism video class with printables and online tests if you want for older kids. I’m planning on using with all 6 of mine this coming year!
What!!!! I’m going to look it up!!!
I just signed up, I already love it! Have you guys started it yet?
@@JennaGuizar I haven’t started it with the kids yet, but I looked through it and I’m really excited about it too!
Have you looked into Catholic Textbook Project history books? If you need independence in that area. They are textbook/workbook style but my boys have really liked them.
No I haven’t heard of it!! Thank you so much, I’ll look it up!! PS I love workbooks 😂
Do you boys find the textbooks dry at all or do they find the chapters compelling / want to keep reading?
@@JennaGuizar so I haven’t read them cover to cover myself, just bits and pieces, but I have used All Ye Lands with two different boys (different years) and Light to The Nations 1 with one boy so far as independent history, they both really liked them and would tell me different things they learned and they completed the books! I used LTN 1 for 9th grade and will use LTN 2 for 10th even though they say 7/8 grade.
Catholic Heritage Curricula sells them with the workbooks and answer keys.
@@L--C this is so helpful thank you!!!
Congrats, on baby #7! We’ve loved Into the Deep this year! I’ll have to check out the Journey Homeschool Academy for science. I had a baby right in the beginning of this school year and TGTG Level K Language Arts & Math made homeschooling my kinder kiddo a breeze. 🙏🏻 for a beautiful homeschool year.
Thank you so much for praying!! And yes I LOVE TGTB Level K! I think I might love it more than my Kindergartner 😂
What curriculum do you LOVE for middle school?
We are doing a very similar list for my 8th grader!! :) congrats on baby #7!!
thank you so so much, Emily!!! I'm curious what you may be using that's different!?
Faith- LOVE Into the Deep so much. But I’m doing L2 with my 6th and 4th graders. So 8th grader is using TAN’s book, we do virtue study. And still deciding if she goes through Fr Mike’s BIAY podcast. And maybe Catholic Sprouts new Catholic Social Teaching book. 🤷♀️ we also might do the study and watch the Chosen again. So many good options. ;) We have a local homeschooler who is trained through IEW who does an amazing Writing and Lit class. So she’ll do that. And she’s offering a high school credit Econ/gov class. So she’s taking that too. We also have a 1day a week enrichment drop off. They offer high school credit so she’s gonna do some classes there- probably speech and Spanish. I have a habit of buying lots of awesome looking curricula and having too much. So I gotta start eliminating some things. . ;) She loves art so I got her 2 sacred art things from TAN.
@@emilywobker2414 sacred art from TAN?! That sounds incredible!! I’ll have to look it up!
Is this the TAN virtue book you’re using? tanbooks.com/products/books/cultivating-virtue-self-mastery-with-the-saints/
Are there any other books you use for saint stories since that book doesn't have all of them? I have that book and love it but am looking for more books to add so that I can read a story about a saint everyday.
This is so helpful ❤
Discerning and loving this
We loved Beautiful Feet when we used it. The past few years we've been using Story of the World, but I'm debating going back to BF since we've been through the SOTW cycle already.
Oh, I wish I had seen this before I just ordered and received God's Plan in Scripture by Ascension. But I couldn't help myself, I also ordered level 2 of this one as I love how it's laid out! Thank you for showing it.
Faith and Life activity book has worksheets out of Baltimore Catechism.
Yaaaay!! I'm so excited to have found a new Catholic homeschooler-TH-camr! This makes me so excited 🥳 going to binge all your videos! Btw i resonate with your message that the Lord has given us what we need in our curriculum. My problem is I like to look ahead and see what I'll use 1-4 years into the future, when i should probably just take it a year at a time and focus on the present moment. I have my eye on a few things you are using, but since I have a Kindergartener and 1st grader, i have to hold off on those still.
Is journey science Christian based?
Yes!! Very much so :)
Thank you Jenna loved what you share at the end, starting homeschool my first year and trusting God that he called me he will lead me 🥹♥️🙏🏻 🥶God bless I am also starting with the good and the beautiful math😍🙏🏻 and just ordered into the deep.
I'd love to hear your thoughts -- is this something you struggle with or have thought about? And have you used any of the curriculums we're using? What have you thought of them?
I will start homeschooling my 10 yr old in august and I’m currently binge watching homeschooling videos 🙃, I’m so nervous and excited at the same time, and I’m grateful I found your channel, I’m looking at strengthening his faith too. Thanks for sharing!!
Thanks for the beautiful encouragement! I’m guilty of constantly questioning what we’re doing and searching for “better options” instead of just being present with what we’re doing and where we’re at. We all want the absolute best for our kids and it’s a lot feeling that it’s all resting on our shoulders as homeschooling parents. We forget God has given us exactly what we need and to be content in that. I forget and am exerting time, energy to the search instead of just focusing on what’s in front of me. Getting distracted instead of intentionally being present. Praying for contentment and peace this school year.
I'm joining you in prayer, Mariellen. I've found myself skipping over more homeschool curriculum vids even though I'm SO tempting to watch them. I'm trying to be content with what we've decided to do and trust in that. Thank you for sharing your thoughts as well. It's SO good to know I'm not the only one!
Love this!♥️♥️♥️
Thank you Bree!!
“I can feel good about it because the Lord has called me to it”…sums it up beautifully! So no Gather ‘Round? I thought it was one of your most recommended and because I’ve heard you talk about it i am close to purchasing year 1, please let me know your thoughts..I have a second grader and kindergartener…thank you for any input!
I looooved GRH for my first year. It was perfect for me easing into homeschooling. But I came around to realizing my daughters needed more for language arts. So we started TGATB and fell in love!! So I do GRH for summer and then our regular school curriculum for the school year!!
