I'm only 3 weeks away from my confirmation day and I'm trying to get as much information as possible before I officially become Catholic. RCIA teaches us about the doctrine but not how to be a practicing Catholic so thank you!!❤️

Welcome home! When I converted 6 years ago it was the same way. I just lived a Sacramental life, making sure I participated in the Sacraments (Confession, receiving the Body and Blood of Jesus which means going to Mass every Sunday possible) also getting involved with at least one ministry in the Parish whether it be Altar Society, religious education, Catholic Daughters, etc. then you will also have more fellowship as well which helps. I am so excited for you 💗

Congratulations and welcome home!! 12 year convert here. I was a history major and converted in college. My advice is always research and learn: history, theology, apologetics, saints, sacraments, etc. NEVER stop learning. The world will try to attack and make you question always be open to learn and understand so you are ready for battle with the Truth. Many prayers and blessings for you 🙏❤️🕊️

The Catechism provides a full answer regarding mortal sins - not everything you said was entirely true as the faithful need to know that an act is sinful in order for it to be considered a mortal sin.
1857 For a sin to be mortal, three conditions must together be met: "Mortal sin is sin whose object is grave matter and which is also committed with full knowledge and deliberate consent."131
Thank you for sharing the beauty of the Catholic Church.

Confession only once a year to me sounds a little bit dangerous. If you can go once a month that would be so much better. Even if you can go every other week. And if you belong to a parish that has confessions every single Sunday right before Mass, those are some of the best parishes.
Confess your venial sins. You receive graces every time you go to confession.

Also according to the CCC, it's not just being sick but "The Catechism of the Catholic Church explains that a person may be excused from the obligation to attend Sunday Mass for “serious reasons” such as illness or the care of infants or loved ones who are ill and cannot be left alone."

I have really bad social anxiety. Sometimes I can go, sometimes I can't it's too overwhelming. I've even gone and sat in my car in the parking lot praying and talking to God for that hour (also some churches have outdoor speakers which helps alot) . But, I hate when that happens and I can't receive Christ in the Eucharist. So I say the prayer for receiving Christ in communion spiritually when you can't physically. I confessed this in confession one time and the priest told me in a situation like that its not a sin because it is a true mental illness (it has to be a true illness not made up to justify) and also it's the intention of my heart as well because, I want so badly to be able to go on those days. There are times I can go when it's not too bad, and I cherish those days. Even if it is an illness it feels like something is missing for me when i can't go. He also said I should do something on those days that's extra or special to acknowledge that it is Sunday, i.e say an extra rosary, go for a walk and pray, do extra readings that day. Just do something to show God my heart and that this is my way of thanking and listening to God and saying I'm sorry i couldn't go but, that God is still front and center in my heart and mind.

Fr Chris Alar - Marian Brothers - Massachusetts- does weekly “talks” on Sat mornings, but all available free on YT and you can get DVDs & other helps. I came from a fundamentalist church, there was a lot of Bible study including the sermon. Catholics read from Scripture during Mass and then… I felt a little lost. RCIA can only cover so much. I am always on the lookout for Catholic Bible studies. I am fairly “well churched” and reasonably able to find my way around the Bible. Am always looking!
    Bless you Father Chris Alar!

Born and raised Catholic here. I got my sacraments through Catholic school, (Reconciliation in 2nd grade, Holy Communion and Confirmation in 3rd Grade) and stayed at that Catholic school till 7th grade. Most if not all of these things were practiced up until then. Once I mover schools and entered high school (I’m a freshman rn) I became kinda distanced from church. Life got busy and so did I. 8th grade was hard. In 9th grade, I went to my first LifeTeen night and it was so nice talking and being friends with other Catholic teens. I went on retreat and it was awesome. I’m now feeling great because I have Catholic friends who I share great bonds with 😀

Attending Holy Mass on Sundays and any day of the week is a blessing as each Mass has different Gospel Readings, prayers, celebrations of feast days of Saints, to meditate on. Also a chance to confess our sins, unload our grievances and burdens to Our Lord and receive precious Body and Blood of Our Lord in the Eucharist is of infinite good to our soul and to find peace and guidance in our daily living.

Thanks for sharing Heather. I agree with you that unfortunately so many new Catholics are poorly catechized. This is the bare minimum but it requires so much more than that to be a devout Catholic. I pray we can all grow closer to God and lean on the Church for understanding this Lent. God bless you and your work, I appreciate it so much!

Whew! When you said you didn't know one until recently - I got worried. I'm ok - knew them all. A bit of a clarifier for #6: if you are divorced, it does not mean you cannot receive communion - but it does mean you cannot re-marry (without an annulment - but it is best to stick with Christ's command to never remarry - because the Church does not acknowledge divorce - so that means you are technically still married in the eyes of the Church. I take it one step further and try whatever I can to still make sure my ex will get to heaven).

Just a couple of months ago I had a reversion/conversion to the Catholic faith and growing up most, if not all of these things were not done in my household. I am now doing them as an adult and I now get to pray for my family to do the same. Thank you Heather for all the videos you created. God led me to your channel at the beginning of my journey and so many of your topics helped me!
I also love to see a healthy, faithful, and Christ-centered home. I have always had a pure desire to have a family of my own and it's beautiful to see how amazing God shows up through all of you. Beautiful! Thank you for displaying God's glory through your vocation as a Catholic mom and TH-camr! God bless you!

Only 33 percent of practicing Catholics believe in the true presence of Jesus in the Eucharist ! That should tell you how bad teaching has become. I sometime attend a church that moved the tabernacle out of the Sancturary. I watch people walk right by or cut in front of it without any recognition what is present. Sometimes I just want to cry when I see this.

I taught catechism to children in a Catholic School. They went to public school so they went to their CCD classes every Saturday. The books were inferior for what it taught to these children. So I made sure to strongly emphasize some of the better points of the class.
Even Catholic schools are inferior in teaching the faith. I pulled my daughter out of Catholic School to do homeschooling.

A lot of Catholics don't realize missing Mass is a mortal sin. But, certain conditions have to be met for a sin to be mortal, and knowing is one of them. I didn't know myself until I stumbled across it online. Even though I went through R.C.I.A., I was never told. And I find that a lot of cradle Catholics know even less than converts! I seriously don't think most people that miss Mass know they're committing a mortal sin and risking eternity in hell. Also, tithing is an OT practice and as Catholics we're under no obligation to "tithe", to give 10% or any set amount. We're to give each to our abilities and what's in our hearts, and not begrudgingly.

  • @Atiragramj

I agree with you about the need of improvement for better teaching of the catechism. I knew a lot of catholicism, since I was born into a catholic family. Although I knew a lot of what almost seemed like the "motions," I knew that I needed to get immersed into a better and deeper understanding of our faith.
For instance, I knew the Rosary is so significant to our faith. However, I never knew the true reason for its true importance. In searching for answers about the Rosary, I found your channel years ago and found so many answers to my questions.
I'm hoping to learn more and be a better practicing catholic, to hopefully be able to also offer the correct explanations to others.

I was raised with all of this knowledge and it is the reason I decided I can't be called Catholic by the time I was 18. No other faith has replaced it so now I've just fully settled into being Agnostic. That said, I've a friend in the LDS church, they have more rules and requirements than the Catholic church, I can't wrap my head around some of it.

Express your desire to your family, pray that God may open their minds. But whatever happens don’t loose faith, God knows what He does and why He allows certain things to happen, His timing is always perfect. God willing you’ll be baptized soon, even if you become an adult, assuming that you’re a minor, you’ll be able to do this in RCIA (Right of Christian Initiation for Adults). I was watching a video of Fr Chris on Vatican II. It wasn’t Vatican II but the interpretations AFTER that got us here. Nowhere in the papers do you see VII take the Tabernacle out of the Sanctuary, turn the altar, give the Eucharist in the hand or take away meat fast on Fridays (amongst other things) those things were done by bishops who interpreted the papers in a way they wanted.
It’s sad that priests went beyond what they were supposed to. I’m a happy Trad and hope we eventually go back to properly being Catholic ESPECIALLY the dispensation for receiving on the hand should be eliminated.
I don’t eat meat on Fridays, I wear a veil, I go to confession at least once a month and I receive on my tongue and my knees even though I had a bad knee. In fact the only time I fully kneel is when taking communion because my knee is so bad. Otherwise I semi kneel, in order to save my knee for communion.

2181 The Sunday Eucharist is the foundation and confirmation of all Christian practice. For this reason the faithful are obliged to participate in the Eucharist on days of obligation, unless excused for a serious reason (for example, illness, the care of infants) or dispensed by their own pastor. Those who deliberately fail in this obligation commit a grave sin.

So my husband was raised Catholic, and I wasn't raised with religion at all, just a belief in God's existence.
We started attending church, and it all just feels so overwhelming to me. We have 3 kids, 7, 3 & 1. So sitting through mass with all these kids acting up has been such a struggle. I feel like I'm retaining absolutely nothing, and I'm already lost about it all as it is. I'm trying to do my best to learn some of this on my own, but just finding out where to start on that journey is also overwhelming

    • @TheHCGTube
      @TheHCGTube ปีที่แล้ว +1

Unfortunately, there's so much too learn, it's hard to learn on your own especially with small kids. It must be a challenge. I would say try to read here and there if you have time, the Bible, the CCC, the apostolic fathers, the doctors of the church, the life of saints, the mystics like Agreda, Emmerich or Valtorta, some members of the clergy like Cardinal Sarah or late Benedict XVI have good books too, etc. There are so many angles to explore, it can certainly be overwhelming.
I'm a cradle catholic and I still learn new stuff all the time about the history of the catechism, the liturgy, the church, the saints, etc. I realized just this past week that the trunks at the entrance of the churches are actually biblical. 2 Kings 12, if I remember correctly! We learn every day!
Anyways, don't get discouraged and you'll get there, little by little !

Keep showing up! It is very hard with kids but the fact that you are all there as a family is huge. God is simply happy you are there. Many times all we can do is show up ❤ If you have the time, try and go over the readings or even just the Gospel prior to mass that morning. Eventually things will start clicking. I bought “My First Interactive Mass” book from ascension for my kids and through reading it I have learned a lot too (and I’m a reverted cradle Catholic) so I fee like I’m relearning a lot myself. Hang in there, sister!

    • @jiyuujava6294
      @jiyuujava6294 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hello. I can just imagine the struggle of having three young kids all together at church. Some suggestions:
      (1) If there are multiple Sunday masses at your parish, you might want to consider going in batches for now? One parent with the 7 year old and infant, another with the 3 year old (at a different time).
      (2) You can also do a preliminary reading of the gospel (as well as the other readings) before going to church so even when you get distracted with the kids, you can follow more easily. There are a lot of catholic apps for this.
      (3) As for learning, maybe Ascension Presents' videos can help you with that. Fr. Mike and the Ascension team are fantastic. And you can watch/listen to them at your own leisure. They've done Bible in a Year and are now doing Catechism in a Year :)
      (4) And of course, remember to say a little prayer every time you're struggling, offering your little crosses to our Lord.

When it comes to missing Mass for justified reasons, I will say that it is more vague than I would like. I'm of the scrupulous type that might be prone to go to church when it would be better to stay home. The rule I would say is, provided the person makes a good faith judgement that is concerned for others as well as self, then they are pretty much protected from sin.
That applies more to faithful Catholics who would not miss church due to laziness or preferring some other activity at home. I think people know where they stand if they look into their heart anyway.

For the rules on Fridays you have to look at Canon Law, and then on what your national conference of bishops has decreed.
In Canada, the CCCB has decreed:
In accordance with the prescriptions of canon 1253, the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops decrees that the days of fast and abstinence in Canada are Ash Wednesday and Good Friday. Fridays are days of abstinence, but Catholics can substitute special acts of charity or piety on this day.
You can look up what your own national bishops conference decreed.
      Days of Penance
Can. 1249 The divine law binds all the Christian faithful to do penance each in his or her own way. In order for all to be united among themselves by some common observance of penance, however, penitential days are prescribed on which the Christian faithful devote themselves in a special way to prayer, perform works of piety and charity, and deny themselves by fulfilling their own obligations more faithfully and especially by observing fast and abstinence, according to the norm of the following canons.
Can. 1250 The penitential days and times in the universal Church are every Friday of the whole year and the season of Lent.
Can. 1251 Abstinence from meat, or from some other food as determined by the Episcopal Conference, is to be observed on all Fridays, unless a solemnity should fall on a Friday. Abstinence and fasting are to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.
Can. 1252 The law of abstinence binds those who have completed their fourteenth year. The law of fasting binds those who have attained their majority, until the beginning of their sixtieth year. Pastors of souls and parents are to ensure that even those who by reason of their age are not bound by the law of fasting and abstinence, are taught the true meaning of penance.
Can. 1253 The conference of bishops can determine more precisely the observance of fast and abstinence as well as substitute other forms of penance, especially works of charity and exercises of piety, in whole or in part, for abstinence and fast.

I hesitate to mention this, because I don't want to come across as encouraging "doing the bare minimum", but technically even the once a year minimum to confession is only required for grave sins, if you have no grave (i.e. mortal) sins to confess then you don't *have* to go to confession strictly speaking (Quote below).
That being said, I agree that more often is to be recommended: Sacraments give us grace to strengthen us in our spiritual growth; so confession helps us overcome venial sins and grow in virtue even if we only have venial sins to confess.
It can vary depending on one's own circumstances, but your recommendation of monthly gives a good idea of a good starting point for most people.
~ "After having reached the age of discretion, each member of the faithful is obliged to confess faithfully his or her grave sins at least once a year” (Canon 989)

Mortal sins are grave sins unless you did it against your will (lack of freedom) or unknowingly (lack of knowledge) If I remember right there is a slight difference between the two.

Question: What if I go to mass every day during the week and do not go on Sunday? I have a problem with Sunday mass because it’s more like a party than mass. Weekday masses are more reverent because there are fewer people and they are the devout ones. Is this still sinful? I have skipped lots of Sunday masses in my life, although I’ve gone to weekday many, many times more. I need an answer from a priest who really knows

Canon Law says which days are HDOs, but leaves it to each national conference to determine which ones will be observed on the day, moved to Sunday, or abrogated ( the obligation is lifted).
So, in Canada several have been moved to Sunday, some have been abrogated, and Christmas and Feast of Mary Mother of God (Jan. 1st) retain the obligation to attend Mass.
      Different countries have different days.

    • @kjerit630
      @kjerit630 ปีที่แล้ว +1

There's no requirement for you to get married unless you are in a relationship with the mother of your child or another woman that you are living with. The Catholic Church is against cohabitation no matter the reasons - financial or otherwise. And couples in these circumstances are required to get their relationship/marriage convalidated by the Church through the Sacrament of Marriage. If you are a single Dad then all is required of you, is to live a celibate and chaste lifestyle until you find a suitable partner whom you would then pursue marriage with through the Church. There's alot of single parents in today's world and they are welcomed and accepted in the Church as long as they live according to their appropriate state in life which is celibate, as sex is reserved for marriage.

We did not want anymore children So I had surgery so I can't get my wife pregnant. I did not know that that was a mortal sin so I went to confession. And confessed it. To the priest. And the reason I did the surgery It's financial we cannot afford more children . So now I know it's not okay to do that. I'm a practicing Catholic I'm doing everything I'm supposed to going to mass every week. Do we never thing I'm supposed to? And I already confessed. Number 6..

      Could you reverse the operation?
If we confess our sin we should also turn away and flee from it. Set it right and change our ways.
We couldn’t very well turn away from birth control and yet still use that.
“If we deliberately keep sinning after we have received the knowledge of truth no sacrifice for sins remains”
Marriage is meant to be a gift of self, free, faithful, total and fruitful.
Both at the altar and at the sexual embrace the promise is free, faithful, total, and fruitful (just as God’s love for us), that’s why some catholic says they recommit to their wedding vows in the marital bed when being intimate with their spouse.
If we hold back our fertility we do not give ourselves totally and fruitfully.
We are saying “I give you all of me and I am yours forever, but not this” we hold back a part of ourselves.
Anyways, of course do your own research of this and listen to priests,
act according to your conscience and don’t do any change without being on the same page with your wife.

But you will never find the list of these names inside the documents this is deliberate. For the purpose of concealment. But what you will find in every paragraph of every page the “definition” of the terms listed. Therefore the Vatican two documents consist of “definition” only:

    4) Transcendentalism

    6) Existentialism, naturalism
    7) Stoicism
    8) Pantheism
    9) Evolution
    10) The Sciences such as historian sociology psychology critic…
If you look up Saint Pope Pius 10 Encyclical
“ Pascendi Dominici Gregis” you will find he new about Vatican 2 and wrote a detailed comprehensive explanation of Vatican 2, listing in detail more than half of the items above listed, and he even explains, in example, how it is meant to diminish Jesus Christ and the one true church and desecrate all seven sacraments and to leave the door open for more of modernism and Progressive changes in the future. He is not alone !!! Pius 10 on the Errors of Modernism, Pius 9 his Syllabus of Errors and Pope Gregory 16 in his Encyclical “Mirari Vos” see #19 on the waldensians, the Beghards, the Wycliffites, and all the popes condemned the documents of Vatican 2 and the Synod of Pistoia and warned the faithful with excommunication, anathema if you don't reject the Vatican two documents, and church, and embrace the one true traditional Catholic Church, the depository of faith, before the end of your life.
As you examine these terms and then read the Vatican two documents you can clearly see the “definition” of all the above listed terms, but not the terms themselves, and the evil, and that it is no longer Catholic but a new religion that will lead you straight to hell !!!
Then what are we to do you ask ?
If you are a true Traditional Catholic then you are supposed to do what the Blessed Virgin Mary told us to do in these evil times, that she described at Fatima, in the third Secret. Not the fake phony Third Secret that John Paul II falsified and Rewritten, along with the fake Lucia !!! But the real true Third Secret of Fatima. You are also to do what the Blessed Virgin Mary told us to do at La Salette, France and again at Our Lady of Good Success, who described in great detail what is to happen to the Catholic church at the end of the 20th century and she was 100% right !!!
What do we do then ? what did she say to
do ? She said to say the Traditional Rosary, not the rosary of John Paul II, the Traditional Rosary 15 decades everyday or 5 decades on Monday, 5 decades on Tuesday, and 5 decades, on Wednesday. Since the Mass is the greatest prayer of all !!! you get the Saint Andrews missile (and no other missile) but the St Andrews missile, and you say Mass every Sunday (you're not able to consecrate) but you can still say the prayers of the Mass !!! From only the Saint Andrew's missile. You can say the rosary, the Seven Sorrows of Mary, the Stations of the Cross, all at home. Have nothing to do with today's fake Catholic Church!!! NOTHING !!! This means all Vatican 2 priests and parishioners also the sspx, sspv, cmri, fssps… It will be a mortal sin and send you straight to hell if you go to any of these groups who support and embrace “Invincible ignorance” and also “baptism of desire and blood” that the Traditional Catholic church teaches against !!! this is heresy !!! and these groups, the sspx and others Embrace these heresies !!! along with using the St Joseph's missile (THIS IS A condemned missile) if anyone, even the Pope, tells you that it's not a condemned missile they are - A - Liar !! don't believe them, they're a liar and a Heretic !!! Heretics will send you to Hell !!!
You say your prayers at home, you stay at home, and you say your prayers at home, the Traditional prayers of the church and you say them every day. You read the Bible the Catholic Bible and no other since all other Bibles have been Rewritten with attacks againt Mary !!! and study the lives of the Saints of the church, and stay away from newly written or revised books on the market today !!! Don't buy any books on the market after 1960 !!!!
What about confession and all that ? You confess your sins to God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost using the prayers in the St Andrews missile, in the confessional which is in the back of the book, or you say one of the seven penitential Psalms along with the act of contrition. That's your confession, at home where you are safe both in body and soul !! For baptism you do the same at home with the proper, Matter, Form and Intent !!!
But whatever you do have nothing to do with the Vatican 2 Church sspx, sspv, fssp…. even if it's empty do not go in it !!! Judgment day is almost here.
P.S.- the Most Holy Family Monastery is a good resource me and my colleagues have kept a close eye on them for over 20 years I highly recommend them.

The Catholic faith is indeed rich and beautiful for a practicing Catholics, but what about those that are struggling with their faith? I feel like the church couldn't care less. Not everyone who is baptized or confirmed comes from practicing families, some were abused, and in my experience the kindness of stranger, mostly more non-Catholic than catholic were helpful and kind during this time of need, only to be scorned by believers. God's love is indeed saving grace, but the people have a lot of work to do in being more merciful to others weaker in faith.

Health organizations have dropped the idea of social distancing and masks and all the rest. They are not necessary. Covid is not ebola. Perhaps pray and fast about the fear you feel so that you can worship in peace. Pick the Mass time with the least people if that makes you feel better.

Be careful, it is very, very dangerous to decide for ourself what is 'pleasing to the Lord'. When we do, it is surprising how often the Lord agrees with us. We all have a tendency to make God in our own image, The Church's teachings prevent this.

We don't keep commandments "for salvation" as Christians. "By FAITH you have been saved, through GRACE, and that not of yourselves; it is a gift from God." Ephesians 2:9-10.

      Not true.
“Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven,* but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven.” Mat 7:21
“So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead.” Jas 2-17
