    Can confirm, I bought the 29 gallon Harbor Freight special and regret not going larger. I am currently using it to sandblast car parts (suspension), and the compressor runs constantly and can't keep up. Using 80 PSI in the line, 150 at the tank, guessing I need at least a 60 gallon.

      it's not the tank size that matters it's the pump, a very big pump on a small tank works very well.

    Is there an advantage to higher horsepower? I have a working 5hp compressor motor from an old rusted tank so will it improve performance if I swap out the 1.5hp motor on a newer compressor with the higher hp motor? Great video.

    I don't understand something.
    I started watching a lot of videos about compressors, because I was looking to pick up a smaller, portable unit that I could take with me in the truck when I travel to go work on my Dad's house. Watching these videos was the first time I ever heard people telling me that I can't do...something that I have done more than once.
    You see, my "big" compressor that I don't want to lug around on the road is only a 20 gallon, 4.8 CFM Campbell Hausfeld. And I swear to you, before I upgraded to my current 20V orbital sander, I used a pneumatic orbital sander with that thing all the time. I completely sanded down TWO vehicles for paint, using that 20 gallon compressor and DeWalt pneumatic orbital.
    Now, granted, the first one was a Jeep CJ. But the second one was my RAM 1500 Mega Cab. The second one is a HUGE vehicle. And I did not have any problems with the motor providing me plenty of air from beginning to end.
    It is confusing. Why does EVERYONE on the internet seem to believe that you cannot do that job with that compressor?

      I've done it with 20 gal, but slower waiting for the compressor to catch up. Actually not that bad if you don't mind the wait. My 20 gal is commercial, 240V.

    Very Important info here folks. I did not know all these particulars when I sent compressor shopping. Bought a small 6 gallon Craftsman to do light garage/hotrod work. Hooked up my die grinder with a cut off wheel and it didn't run for 30 seconds. I had to wait until tank pressure built back up. What a pain in the butt. Looking for a much better one now arming myself with the right knowledge. Thanks for sharing brother. Cheers from Motown/Dearborn.

    Dang, i hadn't even considered air hoses! Thank you. Please tell me this - assuming that a 7 gal. 100 psi portable air tank will inflate a flat 16" tire to 40psi (will it?), what size 110v compressor is needed to fill that air tank to 100psi? A 7 gallon one? IDK

    I have a 15 year old USA made Campbell Hausfeld 7 hp 60 gallon twin cylinder air compressor still working fine. I could never figure out if you read the oil level with the dip stick all the way in or just touching.

    • @wirenutt57
      @wirenutt57 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Any time you use a dipstick, you should run that dipstick in as far as it will go to check levels. If it's a screw-in type, screw it in and then unscrew it to check the level. If it's a push-in, push it all the way in.
      So you read the oil level with the dipstick all the way in.

    Pressure has little to do with properly driving tools it is the cfm that makes the difference. Yes, they are close cousins but if you don't have the volume the pressure isn't going to do squat. Also, the compressor in your corner is a tinker toy, 2 hoses would deplete this thing in seconds.

    • @devinwilliams3489
      @devinwilliams3489 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      cfm delivers the psi, if you don't have the cfm, pressure drops. an air tank can provide more cfm than the pump is actually rated for, but you need the pump to be able to build the psi up. for intermittent use you can have less cfm on the pump than the tool needs

      @kimchee94112 ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure your generator has enough power to run the generator. That compressor motor on startup could have 6 times the continuous current. The generator should have enough to override that inrush current, else it would trip or stalled.

    I had a CH compressor and it was the worst buy I ever made at Lowes. It stopped pumping up at about 3 months of use and I would have to dump all the air to get the sensor to tell the compressor to come on and pump it up. I changed the switch assembly and it was fine for about a year and then the same thing started again. I was not using this thing all the time and when I did use it, it would run fine one time and then the next stop filling up such that I would have to stop working and let all the air out to get it running again.
    I sold it at a yard sale and picked up a 30-gallon, oil compressor, from Home Depot and it has been running flawlessly for over 3 years. I can run 6 air guns on it with no problems and it is a lot quieter than the CH oil-free compressor I had before.
    Interestingly, before I purchased the CH, I used a Porter Cable pancake compressor for 5 or 6 years and it is still in my garage working to this day.

      Pretty much anything. Tires are only run around 30-35 PSI or so. Even cheap compressors will do 125 PSI. The higher the CFM the quicker a compressor will fill large tires, but you don't absolutely need a high CFM for tire filling. That's why you can buy tiny 12v air compressors. Low CFM but they can still handle the PSI required. Just takes them some time to do the job.

    To run a air sander without having to wait for the compressor you would need a 1000 cfm compressor, as in 99% of the cases the cfm is referred to the air intake not outlet, and the inlet is at atmospheric pressure, the outlet is 7-10 bar

    I dont understand about how does psi or cfm or scfm related to the rpm or touque ability (for example to disassemble a car's engine requires 155 Nm of torque).
    So would 5.2cfm at 40 psi with 2 horse power could supply 155Nm of torque?

    • @pcofranc
      @pcofranc 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For air tools like and impact wrench you need two things: 1. high PSI 150+ 2. flow that means at least 3/8" ID air hose that is not longer than 30 feet. Use 50' hose? then plan to crank the psi to 175psi. OR use the Earthquake series from harbor freight - tools designed to operate at full torque below 150psi. Don't worry about cfm for impact wrench - the air in the tank is plenty when full.

    Hi, I have a question. is it the compressor or the air lines that I need to look for to get the lug nuts etc. to get the job done on car? Ex if I have a 2.5 gal tank and 1/2” hose and fitting is it enough to get my lugnuts and other bolts done or I have to get bigger tank? Thanks!

    • @CHcompressors
      @CHcompressors  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello,Thanks for reaching out. Both the compressor and air lines should be considered for use with an impact wrench to remove lug nuts. Minimum tank size for an air compressor for this application would be 15 gallon. The ½’ hose would work best for this application. If you have additional questions please feel free to call our customer service team at 800-543-6400 and we would be happy to assist you.Have a great day!Thank you,

    i have some questions? im just starting out with air tools. i do car audio fabrication so i only use them for 5 to 10 mins at a time. i really just cut out 6 to 15 inches of plastics here and there or grind down plastics and thin metals. but not for long periods of time. HOW big of a compressor do you think il need and how much psi or cfm? this stuff really confuses me i could use the help lol. and i have small hands so i hate big tools lol i just want a angle grinder and a mini saw. and how long does a tool last say at 100psi on a small 10 gal tank. (if you were too just hold the trigger down) a round about?

    • @CHcompressors
      @CHcompressors  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Leonie,
      The best way to size the air compressor would be to see what the SCFM/CFM rating at a given pressure or PSI is for the tool being used. Then you would look for a compressor that produces at least that amount of SCFM/CFM at the given pressure, or more would be even better. Based on your comments it would be best to get at least a 30 gallon compressor.

    What's the difference between single stange and dual stage?Also, is there a "general" equation to convert scfm to cfm and vise versa?

    • @CHcompressors
      @CHcompressors  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Andy. Thanks for asking. Below is some information that helps answer your questions. If you have any additional questions, feel free to email our customer service team by visiting our website: campbellhausfeld.com/?target=contact
      Stage refers the number of times intake air is compressed in a pump. A single stage compressor compresses intake air one time before sending the air into a storage tank. Two-stage air compressors compress air two times before sending air into a storage tank. A two-stage compressor has a minimum of two cylinders; a low-pressure cylinder (largest) and a high-pressure cylinder (smallest). Air is compressed once in the larger cylinder and then sent through an air cooling tube. Upon reaching the small cylinder, the air is compressed again then sent into a storage tank. Two-stage air compressors produce a larger volume of air at higher pressures than single stage compressors.
      CFM is air measured when it is pressurized. SCFM, also known as “Free Air”, is air measured when it is not pressurized. SCFM takes into account standard temperature and pressure. CFM is typically referred to as Actual Cubic Feet per Minute. The following formula is used to determine SCFM:
      SCFM=ACFM (Pa/Ps*Ts/Ta)
      Pa =Actual pressure, Ps=Standard pressure (14.7psi), Ta=Actual temperature, Ts=Standard temperature (528 degrees Rankine)
      Here are the equations to convert CFM to SCFM and to convert SCFM to CFM:
      SCFM=ACFM (Pa/14.7psi)(528 degrees R/Ta)
      ACFM=SCFM (14.7psi/Pa)(Ta/528 degrees R)

    • @fredygump5578
      @fredygump5578 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      SCFM = "standard" CFM. It is the amount of uncompressed air the compressor sucks in. The compressed air output is a much, much smaller number.

      Hey artiga16, If you're operating a tire and/or lube shop the CE7000 (1ph) or CE7001 (3ph) 80 gallon units should work fine. If you do body work (sanding/painting) they will need a larger air compressor like a 120 gallon.
