Great video! Easy to follow with no extra madness. 😂. The only thing I would add is some text instructing to re-disconnect the battery after you made sure the truck started which, you, obviously did and I didn’t 😂). So when it came time to do the faceplate and I turned the key to put the gearshift all the way down, the power came on! 😂

You can do it way quicker if you don't pull all those panels off.
I need to do mine and now I know what to expect. Thank you!
I just checked my truck, and you can pull both steering wheel panels without pulling the big panel underneath..

Great video! After spending weeks trying to track down what was causing my e brake and abs lights to stay on, my blower fan to stop working and a DTC message of 'service 4x4, I finally figured out that this switch is the problem. What were the symptoms that warranted replacing this? Forgot to mention that. I have a 2006 Silverado that clicks once and all power is lost to the truck. Not even the hazards will come on after that. Wait a while and it'll come back and when you try to start it, you get one click from the starter again and all the power is lost again. Is this the ignition switch?

My 02 1500HD just started to not spring back when the key goes into the crank position. From what I’ve read so far the switch box that you pulled out is the culprit. I guess the teeth you marked is what springs back?

I watched this video in hope to understand the issue I have. The key in a 2006 Silverado intermittingly binds and doesn't allow it to rotate. I replaced it with budget kit and a different one that was suppose to be better. Both rotate better but do not start the truck. It runs for one second and shuts down. The truck is not equipped with PATS. Reinstall the old lock and key and it starts fine. What am I overlooking?

  • @jimhjr73

I was watching this video because I was replacing some other components up top...ignition cylinder housing and cylinder lock and thought it would be useful. I needed to remove the ignition switch. Either by ignorance because I didn't know better or just clumsy luck, I am sure I moved the cog and didn't have it marked. Now putting it back together I am having some issues with the key turning from run to crank which Im sure is mechanical meshing position issue. How do I fix this?

So, I recently did this for a 2006 Chevrolet Express 3500; the problem I had was multiple brake malfunctions lamps would intermittently illuminate with the engine on, and the HVAC does not blow any air through the air vents on any setting(s). After replacing the ignition switch I no longer have any brake system malfunctions, however, the HVAC system will now turn on when the key is in the OFF position, and will turn off when the key is in the ON position. 🤦‍♂️ Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!

Has anyone had an issue where it only occasionally won’t start? Sometimes I turn the key to the start position and nothing happens aside from the typical stuff the dash cluster does when you crank the truck. This is random. It always eventually starts. I wonder if this may be the culprit but I have also read that the wires in the steering column are known to get broken. Has anyone found the wires to be the real issue?

That is about the same setup inside my 2006 Chevy silverado 1500 crew cab. I was having a problem when I was driving to work last week and the engine completely die and wouldn't crank back up.
Well I finally got towed back to my apartment and on Friday brought a code reader and checked the check engine light and had the P0335 code come up for the crankshaft position sensor and I changed it out and rehooked all my wiring back and didn't have any crank. Then undo the wiring again and had my alternator and starter tested and those passed good. My battery was also good since it was brand new.
I also checked the minifuses in the engine fuse center and I replaced the relay for the starter relay as well as the relay for the crank. And I still have no start.
And another note, I also checked the fuel pump and went ahead and changed out under its warranty.
I have fuel and crank but no start. Any suggestions that might be my ignition starter switch could be bad and making it harder the start my truck?

People removing the negative side does nothing but leave the potential for arching and starting a fire you should always disconnect the positive side first ..and connect it first
