reaperexpress when I saw this, I was shocked and knew this wasn’t normal automatic train behavior. Other than this test they carried out, I don’t think anyone will ever see this in daily operation.
@@Luke_Starkenburg When I was on the Copenhagen metro (which is driverless with moving blocks) there was a service disruption and our train got very close to the train in front. Not quite as close as in these images, but I think people could still see some impressively close operations in service when there's a disruption.
Wow that's same with Taipei Metro Brown line!!! The first train of ORD is VAL256 so does Taipei MRT. And now the new train of ORD is INNOVIA APM 256 too as same as Taipei MRT! That is so cool to watch this as a Taipei city resident.
Great video showing off moving block. Think of it his way: the trains each “carry” their deceleration ramp in front of them. It is projected forward and changes based on their speed. When the trains are moving slowly thus they can move very closely together. Many roller coasters advance their trains into and through the loading stations just like this, where the next train will be entering while the preceding one is on its way out.
Interesting! I don't think we will ever see this during revenue operation, except in a rare event if a train is stopped for some reason like a sick passenger. It was very cool to see and knew I had to film it!
I work at O'Hare, and park in lot H next to lot E. I have heard, of course these are just rumors, that lot E station was going to be demolished because it was too high for planes to safely land. Have you heard about this? If so do you know if this rumor is true or not?
I think it's true, according to this map, and other maps I've seen on the internet. th-cam.com/video/42ilR-bBxwA/w-d-xo.html It looks like the only station will be the new multimodal station. That whole area looks like it needs to be re-thought and revamped. There are lots that are closed, pay station booths that have been closed for years but not removed. Maybe O'Hare can fit all the cars it will see in the new parking garage at the multimodal station and the main garage area. Maybe it doesn't need lots E and H.
It's funny, on this map, the stations are RED. It looks like there is a station in between the International Terminal and Terminal 3. I don't think this is happening, I think its just a confusing map.
Okay my supervisor at O'Hare told us that the reason why they are still testing these trains is because they are supposed to have 100,000 miles on each train car before they can be put into service. This is the reason why they are running 24/7.
If that were the only issue, they wouldn't have publicly announced that it would be open for the Christmas holiday season in 2019. This would mean that they already ran the cars 100,000 miles by late last year.
@@Luke_Starkenburg I heard that the other day and I was a little skeptical as well. They have had so many issues and have changed the contractor a few times. Something else is going on. Now I'm not saying my supervisor was lying, he probably heard it from someone else, but found that specific story interesting.
I ride SkyTrain in Vancouver 6 days/week and despite bunching happening every day, our (driverless) trains are never run that close to each other at the station.
Yes, they moved where the comments are, not requires an extra click. This changed a few months ago. I can't wait for this to finally open. It will be nice to ride, but also it will be fantastic for O'Hare to get rid of those awful buses!

From an aesthetic standpoint the new cars look out of place given their color vs that of the station. Given that, I wonder if they’ll repaint the stations to match the cars.
MrAwesomedude808 I kind of doubt that they would paint the exterior of the stations since they aren’t repainted already. In terms of the vehicles, I always wish transit systems would use a permanently coupled train where passengers can walk from one end of the train to the other. This way they can also safely stand in the gangway in between the cars which dramatically increases capacity.
Ahhh!!! I miss the old lady voice “This train serves Airline Terminal number 2, Airline Terminal number 3, International Terminal number 5, remote parking. The next stop serves Airline Terminal Number 2” 😁😁

I think the station for the parking lot E which used to be the end of the line will be torn down, eliminated. Someone commented on this video that he heard that the station is too high for planes to land on a new runway O'Hare is opening soon. This doesn't seem like it can be true since the station hight is not that much higher than the train's height. But in the new ATS map, it does show the current station gone. Trains will run from Terminal 5 station to the new Multi Modal station non-stop eventually.
