4:30 the blue railings he passed on the Washington platform is where sometimes there's live music from locals while you wait for your train. Some can really sing and play instruments. You only need a permit. And oh justice was not done for the scenery surrounding the airport. The landscaping is spectacular year round. The ride is absolutely beautifull coming and leaving the airport.
Manny, I really like your positive attitude & commentary while traveling. We are kindred spirit. No experience or destination is perfect, there are always bumps in the road. The joy is in the appreciation for new environs and gratitude for being afforded the opportunity to travel..
These cities are the original when it comes to public transportation. This and New York has always been away of life. LA needs to continue taking a page from the book to vastly improve ours over time.
I feel the same way when I take rail to JFK - tons of traffic visible from LIRR and the AirTrain. Getting there from midtown Manhattan has gotten easier, btw - there is a sparkling new station under Grand Central - 21 mins to Jamaica (AirTrain Station), or 12-13 mins to Woodside, Queens (short Q70 bus or cab to LGA)
I miss Chicago. I had great times living there. I once lived in North Chicago, far north. The crime happening in Chicago is mostly in the FAR West Side of Chicago, far from Downtown, North and South Chicago. Chicago is general safe outside of the West Side.
Great video! SO helpful that you went through the entire process from the beginning - too many videos cut part of the process out. Very helpful, thanks!
I really appreciate your video. We are heading to Chicago for the first time in a few months and I was leaning toward taking the train from O'Hare into the city. This video sealed the deal on that plan!
I know, I use to live in Chicago. The Chicago "L" subway and rail is connected from downtown to O'Hare airport. I rode on the Chicago "L" subway and rail many times. LA, California needs to connect their subway and rail to LAX airport to downtown. Corrupt politics is holding LA, California back in many ways.
It wasn't always that way, though. There was pushback about the cost estimate (always lowballed), questions regarding just how many people would ultimately use the train (always inflated) and then the debate of putting the rail lines in between the Kennedy Expy lanes vs. adding two more traffic lanes.
Be happy LA has a light rail. It didn't until about 30 years ago so yes, let's hope that's one of the next improvements and expansions. As of now, NYC does not have light rails going into either JFK or LGA, but I understand they're working to change this.
Thank you so much for making this video. My friend from a small town has to go to Chicago and needs to take this exact same train. She is feeling apprehensive but I’m going to show her this video so she can see it’s doable for someone from a small town in the big city. Thanks again ❤
I'm visiting Chicago in late May for two days. It will be my first time there... probably my only visit. I hope it's worth it. I have my itinerary set. I'll be staying at La Quinta's downtown hotel located in the loop. I was going to visit in early April, but they have the buckingham fountain turned off for the cold weather, so I canceled. The next cities to visit will be San Francisco and Seattle, definitely.
Going to a concern in Chicago in May and have been trying to figure out the best way to get from the Airport to our Hotel. never ridden a Subway and that was giving me anxiety but an uber is estimated to cost like $50-80 one way. This makes me feel sooo much better about just catching the subway
Memories... In the 90s used to ride this. On at Irving Park , off at Cumberland at 5:00 AM. Did it again in the afternoon. Never any problems. Delays every now and then.
Take the train! So much cheaper and it is a great introduction to the city - especially the second half of the ride going through different neighborhoods. (The first half of the ride is in the middle of the highway, and in parts, you'll be faster than the traffic)
I did this route several times in the late 1980s. The airport itself has changed quite a but other than the ticket machine the train ride has remained mostly as I remember it. I like the fact that they have those moving walkways in O'hare however there are so few of them I have to wonder why they bothered to put them in at all. With how big O'hare is you'd expect over a dozen .. not just two.
Appreciate this. First time here...first post COVID so appreciate alleviating concerns about getting there through public transportation than paying $$ for Uber.
Oh man, you turn around your videos so fast. Love o’Hare. So good to see you explore our city. 3 Day pass is a good idea for sure. I usually bring Melissa to navigate through the L. I liked the music you picked. It was so great seeing you man!
You will need to first take the blue line to downtown , and then transfer to a metro line that goes to your suburb. All Metra lines can be accessed downtown.
I´m traveling to milwaukee in two months and I´m planning to land ond O´Hare, then take the Amtrak train to Downtown Milwaukee, thanks to your video for showing me how to take the train from the airport, but, do you now where my stop would be to get to Chigago´s Union Station?
There's no direct station from cta blue line to union Station I think the best option is to get at the closest stop, probably grand street and walk to union station
0:46 I worked at O’Hare for three years and you wouldn’t believe how many people would approach me asking how to get to the trains, because they couldn’t/wouldn’t read and follow those simple signs like you did here 😁
Cities call Choo choo trains, subways, "metro" differently in different cities. To the extent that I've chosen Choo Choo here in Boston for the "commuter rail" because subways are called trains by some "Boston" Bostonians. (Edit not where I grew up in Cambridge.) Then we have a version of above ground rail (when it's not a subway) these are often called trolleys In the UK you would never call a subway a train. I wasn't sure how to even Google this Because I also know it as cta. Give people a break.
Needed this bc the last time I went to Chicago i lucked out and hopped on a employee shuttle, (without realizing) and guess they thought I was a flight attendant or something. Which took me down the street to an employee parking lot and I got an Uber from there for 20$ instead of the 60$ it was saying at the airport. I know I won’t have that luck this time so I needed to start looking 😂
Riding the blue line to downtown is convenient but taking the Kennedy expressway to downtown the has better views especially at night. I recommend an Uber or rent a car for the next trip
Last time I was in Chicago, I checked uber and it cost 75 usd for an uber from O'Hare to downtown, versus a three day pass for 15 dollars for CTA. You are out of your mind if you rent a car in Chicago, it's stressful as hell to drive there and expensive to park. You can get literally anywhere in the city for 15 bucks on the three day pass. No expensive rental car or uber.
Traffic on the Kennedy from the airport is horrible and doesn't let up until at least 8 at night. Don't drive or Uber unless you love being stuck in a traffic jam.
We're heading to Chicago in a few weeks and I've been anxious about the the airport catching the train. This video was VERY helpful!!! Thanks so much.
Hope you enjoy your visit to Chicago
I remember landing in O'Hara and catching an Uber to the loop, wow the traffic! Next time I go I will definitely catch the train.

We actually have both airports (Midway with the Orange Line and O'Hare with the Blue) connected.
I know, I use to live in Chicago. The Chicago "L" subway and rail is connected from downtown to O'Hare airport. I rode on the Chicago "L" subway and rail many times.

A lot of cities have their airport connected to Downtown via train/rail. Atlanta, Miami and Cleveland have it too.
Fun Fact: O'Hare airport (ORD) is named after Lieutenant Commander, Edward O'Hare!
