I totally agree. Great info, but difficult to follow. Since the music issue was already addressed, I'll make another recommendation: looking at the jackets only the whole time you're talking makes it difficult to follow along. Consider talking to the camera, and either picking up and showing the item you're talking about when necessary or adding some B-roll with it. Graphics with all the numbers you mention would really help, too. Keep it up and thank you for the effort!
@@thanosgatos thanks for this. im posting a new jacket review today, and this suggestion played a roll. Always looking to progress, let me know what you think of it.
Great video! You describe some important minor details that larger channels skipped over. You really helped me feel confident that I'll prefer the Micro over the Nano.
I went with the Nano because it was a little thinner, slimmer, and less puffy. Weight is marginal but I liked that it was thin yet warm and I also like the brick pattern stitching just because it's different from the rest. Plus, I got mine for just over $100 on sale so it was even a better bargain.
I decided to go with the Nano Puff. I like the features better. The fabric being a little heavier weight in my opinion offers more abrasion protection. It's also extremely environmentally friendly.
Great review. For the use I will be looking at weight is not critical so will probably go for the Nano. Both appear to be great jackets but the Nano being more environmental friendly is a big plus.
I got a new synthetic jacket last year and settled for an Enlightened Equipment Torrid APEX. 7.75 oz. and has that 10D nylon shell. Doesn't have quilting. Not a fashion statement but was perfect for me on the PCT last summer. The Micro Puff's fill seems so much like real down that I thought it might lose it's insulating ability if it gets wet.
That’s interesting, Reverend! I wasn’t aware that EE made a synthetic jacket! I know I’ve been ecstatically pleased with my Enlightened Equipment 20degree quilt (in fact, I’m in the process of ordering a 0degree one, as well). I may just have to look into the Torrid. Especially, as it proved itself on the PCT for you! Any idea of lowest temp you endured comfortably in the Torrid?
I have both, theyre both very nice jackets, micro puff is lighter and much warmer but when I hold the jacket to light source I can literally see light coming through the stitching, it will definitely rip very easily. I’ve been wearing nano puff at work for years and it is very durable. Don’t forget Patagonia will do repairs on these items in efforts to reduce carbon footprint of fashion industry.
Love both Jackets. For daily commuting, I use the Nano Puff Jacket because here the weight is not so important. It is also a bit more breathable. For longer bikepacking tours I prefer to take the Micro Puff Jacket.
Its also a helpful feature for rock climbers. That way you can wear a harness while climbing and your pockets/stuff in those pockets don't get in the way 👌
I have both jackets in hooded versions and I love them both. I want to try the Macro puff as well 😄. But I live in Texas and rarely get outside Texas for any hiking. So the micro puff works very well for hiking trips, whereas the nano puff works better for city wear or at work. I love the range of motion in the micro.
I've had the Nano Puff for a few years and have been really happy with it. I tried the Micro Puff and didn't like the way it fit. I have the old version of Micro Puff (2012) and prefer it over the new one.
Great detailed video as I am about to decide which one I should purchase on this Cyber Monday. I echo other posters to lower the music a bit. Thanks so much!
Went with micropuff hoody version, tried them both on and off several times, and must say micropuff is more comfortable, has bigger inner pockets and it looks better imho. Both of these jackets are great thogh and you made a great comparison!
I have both. It really depends on your temperature preferences and how hot/cold you tend to run. Nano puff is my daily go to and perfect for that transitional weather. Also not bad for a ski trip to add an extra layer of warmth. While this is a nice tech layer - it does at a certain point meet its limits and get damn cold… so don’t expect a miracle here. Below freezing you will need to layer or get a warmer jacket. Micro puff is warmer in my opinion and it also packs down a great deal more. If I could pick one travel be all end all knowing I was going somewhere with variable weather it would likely be the micro puff. I’d probably also grab a shell for good measure and those two together would have you pretty toasty. I recommend both!
I love the Nano puff because I had one for the last 9 years and it just finally got to the point that it needs to be replaced. A little heavier but 9 years of use out of a jacket is amazing. It is made with sustainable materials and its longevity is also sustainable. I’m sure the micro puff is also durable because Patagonia makes quality products but a few ounces wasn’t enough to make me give up on picking up another nano puff. The nano is comfortable and it becomes more comfortable with time. I recommend it
Just got my Nano today, haven't even opened the package yet! I prefer low hand pockets and a zippered chest pocket so the Micro wasn't an option for me. Also have a Down Sweater Hoody which is very similar to the Nano... 🤗
Ok, a 2 y/o video and I didn‘t find anyone replying on the pocket placement? It‘s for better accessability when u r wesring a climbing harness or your backpack hip belt. So it‘s a feature for alpinist and hikers. When you tell me you prefer the lower pockets I assume u r mostly using it casually what is ok, but for someone looking for an insulating layer climbing outdoors or mountaineering I guess this would be a very helpful information about a helpful feature. Also everyone who said the micro seemes a bit burly of material, its for alpine use made from ripstop. Also patagonia has a lifetime warranty on their products. So if u r bot so unlucky to get stuck on a tree while jumping off of it and rip your jacket (which was a patagonia air hoody) it will be fine.
Not really only for casual, These are higher then typical climbing jacket that still have raised pocket to make room for a harness like the proton. It just feels more unnatural, but it is good for what it does. Yes it has a life time warranty , but when your on a through hike you don’t have the luxury of an exchange to wait on which is why it needs to be mentioned, to be extra delicate. Anyways micro puff is a great jacket for what it is
Love the review! Settled on the nano but don’t know if I should go for Medium, or Small like yours. What was your approximate height and weight in this video?
4:32 in and I just paused it to buy the micro puff 😂 I got a nanopuff in the sale and love it but it’s a orange/gold colour and I just want a navy one that I can wear as a go to jacket this winter (I live in London so have bigger coats but for quick journeys to the shop or taking my daughter to school this will be fine. I own the following synthetics: Patagonia Micro Puff Hoody, the Rab Xenon X Hoody, and the Arcteryx Atom LT. Of the three, the Rab has been my “go to” for hiking/backpacking/bikepacking…. when wet and/or freezing wet conditions are forecast. The Atom? I use it only for active day hikes when temps are forecast for the high 30s to low 40s.. The MicroPuff? Nice jacket, but it just hasn’t passed merit in really cold AND wet conditions. Also, I wish that the MicroPuff had waist cinching. I really had high hopes for the Micro Puff, and while purchasing was an expensive lesson….I never, ever, NEVER pay full price for outdoor clothing. I buy everything post-season. Yep. It means weird colors, sometimes, maybe lack of correct sizing, but let’s face it: outdoor activities aren’t about catalog posing! This was a great review, as I’ve often wondered why Patty makes both!

Do you only buy a jacket without hoodie & do you hike in all 4 season, what are your recommendations for cloths for day hike for someone who lives in the Pacific Northwest.
For my 3 season jackets I like to have them hood less like these. And if I plan to use it as a layer I prefer hoodless as well plus it saves a few extra ounces not getting the hood . For my bigger winter jackets where it will get below 30 I’ll sometimes do a hood. For my winter mountaineering out for I use the north face summit L3 down jacket and it has a hood, since I had that I didn’t want another hooded jacket. Hope that helps.
Hey boss good video! Quick question, I live in Lake Tahoe where it snows quite often. I was torn between these 2 or the Fitz Roy down hoody. Any suggestions?
thanks, either would be a good option. it would come down to how you plan to use it. the difference in them all would be durability. the fitz roy will be the most durable, but also the heavier of the 3
What's the fill power on these jacket? Im planning to get a lite winter jacket, eying on the arctyrx cerenium LT hoodie at $349 with 850 fill power. A bit pricey wonder if the nano or micro puff from patagonia can match it
Since it is synthetic it won’t be the same category of fill power as down. However, the micro puff best mimics down and is most similar and in my estimation will be a close comparison to 800 down fill power
I think you'd find the Arctyrx to be warmer than either of these, depends on your needs, level of activity, etc. I have looked at both of the Patagonia jackets and have their hooded Down Sweater, which is very similar to the Cerenium. I think the Sweater is likely warmer than these options, especially the Nano. The Nano is pretty light, Micro is said to be a little warmer. I ended up with the hooded Arctyrx Atom LT for my mid-weight instead of either of these due in part to fit. I find it warmer than anticipated, very comfortable, great fit and range of motion, but not at the warmth level of the Down Sweater, which was the plan.
It would be best to measure your arm length and compare it to the xs vs the small. I think the small would work but xs has shorter arms and smaller circumference around the chest. If you go with ads, I would get it from somewhere where if it is too small you can exchange it for a small just I case.
Personally it depends what your wanting it for. If it’s for strictly backpacking the micro puff is the better option. Ultralight and warm but not something I’d wear around town. But for multipurpose use in town and occasionally hiking, the nano is excellent, just weighs a tad more and is the cheaper option.
"Water resistant" (they all say this) is an almost meaningless marketing term. In any event, don't even think about using a "water resistant" garment in, you know, the rain. You'll get wet. Other than that quibble, this was an excellent review.
Its beyond my understanding to add background music on videos like this? Its muddles the speech and its distracting. Especially as it added to the echo due to the audio quality. So unfortunately I didn't take anything from this and gave up within a minute. Anyhow, ATB.

Arcteryx Nuclei FL won for me - thanks for the review though ;)
Cool I’ll have to check that one out
I’m 5’4 120 lbs Male, Should I go for a XS ?
It would be best to measure your arm length and compare it to the xs vs the small. I think the small would work but xs has shorter arms and smaller circumference around the chest. If you go with ads, I would get it from somewhere where if it is too small you can exchange it for a small just I case.
@@BackcountryRenegade I’ve had my micro puff for a year now and i can say i absolutely love it! And i went with the small, the fit is perfect! ❤️🙏
After evaluating all aspects, still what's your choice on versatility? Thank you.
Personally it depends what your wanting it for. If it’s for strictly backpacking the micro puff is the better option. Ultralight and warm but not something I’d wear around town. But for multipurpose use in town and occasionally hiking, the nano is excellent, just weighs a tad more and is the cheaper option.
Hi
I want to get one of these jackets, but can't try one on.

Cual de los 2 protege mas del frio
Micro puff
What is the name of the song in the video please
I like the micro more
Right on, same here. That’s what I went with.
Good Review - get rid of the background music
"Water resistant" (they all say this) is an almost meaningless marketing term. In any event, don't even think about using a "water resistant" garment in, you know, the rain. You'll get wet. Other than that quibble, this was an excellent review.
Nano puff was a weird fit for me, micro puff a much better fit.
I agree, nano is a bit boxier and tighter in the chest for me too for some reason
The music is really annoying, at least lower the volume of it :(
Yeah this was a old vid. Check for a updated one coming soon
WICH size Do U HAve?
Both are size small
@@BackcountryRenegade May i Ask your size? I m 172 cm x 72 kg.... Size m o s for me? Grazie from Italy
@@dinodini547 I’m 173 cm and 64kg
@@BackcountryRenegade o, so maybe i Need medium? I m warry about the lenght
@@dinodini547 id recommend med for you
Went Nano bc of durability
"both excellent to use on a layering system" just say when you're layering 😂
That background music! Louder than the presenter. Why???
Lol its a 2 yr old vid. Changes have been made. Look at my newer vids. Ill be redoing this in the next month or two
What is with that music??
Mega Puff
Bagground music. Turn It down. Good video
the background music is too loud!
Its beyond my understanding to add background music on videos like this? Its muddles the speech and its distracting. Especially as it added to the echo due to the audio quality. So unfortunately I didn't take anything from this and gave up within a minute. Anyhow, ATB.
nice red color. I wish they make it on 2024...the color of 2024 season are horrible!
You’re really nitpicking over 3oz? 😂
Lol Ultra-lighters know, those oz add up 😉
The music is deeply irritating and almost drowned the narrative on occasions. Detailed review, nevertheless.
already fixed, in newer vids
Dude your music is way too loud
Bruh the music is so annoying
yeah this was on of the originals, been fixed in newer vids
please turn off this music. cant hear your voice
How can micro be lighter than nano? Silly American company…
This music is awful but great video regardless
yeah im redoing it with no music
Obnoxious background music
lol thanks for the feedback, im well aware and this was a early vid. live and learn. new vids show the change. anyway, ill be recording this again soon, so check for that
Haha who gives a damn if its "eco friendly" or not.... Besides that remark, great video my friend, am planning to buy one Micro Puff from Ebay and send it to me here in México.. Northern México is a frigid place lately.
Anything but Patagonia,
Get rid of the music very distracting
Lol already fixed in newer vids
