ink dries instantly, so more passes you make the more you build the ink up

I'm interested to know the substrate height range. Not the thickness, but the range that you can print at the same time, like on an already heavily embossed surface. I've seen golf ball printing which seems to have a range of abt 5mm. Is this the maximum?
