Another TH-cam channel putting out better content than most TV channels do. Simple, educational documentary style, this is what reality TV should be. Doing a great job showing a fascinating side of life in China most of us will never get to experience.

It's really nice to see this. But he really unsettles me - like a lot of people in engineering disciplines. He's one of those obnoxious touchy sweaty dudes with not nearly enough modesty, but I appreciate the close look you don't get anywhere else - it's just, he's really unsettling to watch and listen to. Not a fan of content creators - it's all spectacle and dramatization no different than American television. Granted, I'm monotone and very serious, I just sound angry all the time, nobody would be interested in someone who was not energetic. I just think there is a balance. Professional environments can be really intimidating, might just be my own experience in that setting making me feel like I would've been more calm and used my hands less. Especially around equipment.

One of the things I love about your series Scotty is that you happily show the working conditions in a light that is never positive or negative.
I've spent many hours trying to enlighten people to the fact that factory work in China isn't as bad as it used to be, and that the cost of living there is so low that the wage is actually often better (comparably) than US counterparts in the same position.
Showing that worker dealing with the wires, and that she was happy to speak about her own personal knowledge for a moment, was fantastic - this is generally the kind of attitude I've experienced with Chinese factory workers.

While we do rely on the magic of editing a lot to compress time like this, this actually played out in person pretty much like what it looked like in the final video. The forklift was zooming around by the time we made it down the stairs. I did have my eye on the open doorway to nowhere when we did the original scouting of the location at the beginning of the day, and I wasn't 100% sure what they used it for, but I knew the answer was probably pretty awesome. So I made sure we were rolling when I asked Edward the first time.

Heidelberg is one of the biggest offset machine manufacturers, they have a plant in Pudong right outside of Shanghai, my colleague did his internship there. One of their Speedmasters costs probably around 7 or 8 times as much as these large format flatbed UV printers and requires significantly more engineering skill to develop and assemble. And yeah it's also a city in Germany where their headquarters is located (although they moved to Wiesloch). I was there a few months ago on a tour of their production and innovation center. China and Taiwan has been watching and learning. Now Taiwan copycats dominate computer parts. where did you think MSI, Acer, Asus and others grew from? did they start out innovating like DJI? lol, no. early 90’s Taiwan was where you source cheap copycat computer parts for custom builds when you can’t afford the brand name products. Why are people buying OnePlus and Huawei and Xiaomi phones now? they’re only going to keep getting better now that they have the tech down. do you also call Toyota lacking in innovation and cheap rip off of American cars? people did back in the 80’s. not as much anymore.
