We drove to Santa Cruz, California for a tour of the NHS Distribution facility - home of Santa Cruz Skateboards, Independent Trucks, Creature, Flip, Ricta, Mob, Krux, OJ's, Nor Cal, Strange Notes and more. In this first video, Dave Freil gives us a tour of the graphics printing processes that have been used to create millions of the most classic boards and wheels in skateboarding history. Watch and learn.
Stayed tuned for more videos from our NHS road trip, including interviews with Jason Jessee, Emmanuel Guzman and Richard Novak, plus a full tour of the NHS Skate Museum!

screen printing teacher here; i cant believe those screens still register! ive had to come up with all sorts of diy jigs for when students wanted to print on decks. theres still a demand for the hand printed graphics. most of the kids have told me the transfer decks do wear differently and i told them its probably less ink on the PET film. now i know!
Great video!! itd be cool to see transfers printed with the colors in reverse order.

From an exe screen printing view...this video was super accurate lil. Especially that part about getting so loaded from the fumes you'd have to go get drunk on lunch too feel normal again🤣🤣 the first print shop I worked in had guiness in the vending machine 🤣🤣🤣 this place had the same kinda vibe as that old dirty shop I started in when I was 18 making shirts and I love it!

so bummed that we didn't get to see the arrow multi printer that is still in use after all these years. The only view of the classic press (early to mid 80's) was in the background. Would love to see that press in action it would remind me of my youth (First Job) working on one of those presses

gluing the mesh on a flat frame usually is done with a stretcher for the mesh, placed on the glued frame and then sprayed with glue activator to cure it. id also like to see how they stretch a convex/concave screen

Just stumbled across this video and I haven't sorted through all of the comments. I apologize if this question has been asked and answered previously but I'm wondering if NHS uses a custom exposure unit to burn designs onto these 3d screens? I'm accustomed to printing posters and t-shirts and I know how important it is to have optimal contact between transparencies and screens when exposing. Just trying to wrap my brain around how flat transparencies are adhered and exposed onto these 3D screens. Any input is appreciated!
