BREAKING NEWS: the stigma against Smith machines is over! This Smith Machine Rack Attachment will supercharge your size & strength in an ultra-compact footprint. Now, if only mullets would come back in style…
This widely compatible unit upgrades your 3” x 3” power rack into a beloved bodybuilding beast without the hefty price tag or space requirements.
Bring your own 25-30mm diameter barbell (BYOB) for a higher starting weight and to optimize the attachment for your next training cycle. Or, snag the hollow 36lb Smith bar for an easier assembly & one-and-done solution for all exercises. With a 600-pound total weight capacity, it’s ready for your heaviest ambitions.
Mount this rack attachment on the inside of your rack without taking up any additional footprint in your gym, or attach it to the outside - sitting just 10" off your uprights! Change between a straight or angled bar path with a few simple adjustments to the mounting brackets, making its fixed path feel as natural as possible for your body.
Hit all the staple lifts: squats, presses, rows, and Bulgarian split squats (why are they ALWAYS here?!). But that’s just the start. Incorporate heavy negatives on compounds. Isolate individual muscles with JM presses. You can even rehab stubborn aches in your posterior chain with single-leg Romanian deadlifts.

TLDR - Built in Bar is hollow to maintain the lower weight meaning the knurrling cant be as aggressive as a standalone bar / The Built in ONLY WORKS ON 49" Racks, BoS, Rogue, etc.
BYOB is ideal for 49" down to 47" (REP) but takes more maintenance as it has a lot mroe bolts to monitor and upkeep to some degree.
Pricing is the same because of the engineering and machined parts going into the BYOB brackets.
I appreciate the transparency with the limitations and considerations in your review. I love these longer form introductory showcases you do with the new products. It’s nice to hear the perspective of the company before the reviewers get down to the nitty gritty and then we as consumers can better evaluate the pros and cons of what fits in our own home gyms, not just the glamorous “gym home” pole barn gyms.
I like nice stuff like anyone, but it’s a fine line to find that’s individual to everyone’s situation.
Love the innovation Bells of Steel is bringing to the community. Representing Canada beautifully!
The BYOB version is what Im most interested in, legitimately excited for the reviews to drop
I've dropped tested 500 lbs with no issues. I've been loving training with it. Definitely need the bring your own bar brackets. I have some more ideas 😈
These are so hot right now. I’d love to see how your stacks up against all these budget ones. They’ve been sending me.
Hella dope, something im gonna grab for my home gym for sure!
I really liked this attachment it's super awesome, it would be great if you can make it larger!
Ordered this instantly and can't wait to use it. Thinking through some of the issues that were raised...
Lack of counterbalance:
* For accessories where you need light weight, the BYOB could take a technique bar.
* For movements with lower ROM needs, reverse bands might work.
* When you need a full ROM counterweight and don't want to take the time to swap bars, it might be feasible to rig up a DIY pulley counterweight.
For lack of ROM:
* Tall basement people already can't OHP, so welcome to the seated club. :)
* As mentioned in the video, standing on a box for low pulling exercises.
* Glute bridges would be tricky, but hip thrusts might be high enough.
Exercises I got this for:
* CALVES - after starting running at 50 and tearing a gastric in the Spring and a soleus in the Fall, calf raises have rocketed up the list of importance. Standing will let me sell my SSB. Seated it's almost impossible to get the perfect setup DIY, but this might work.
* JM Press and other tri exercises - it never feels like I'm isolating the triceps 100%.
* Sissy Squats - like tris, the quads might get isolated and cooked more than ever.
This might also be an interesting option for belt squats, to straddle the bar and get the straight up-down. A lot of belt squat setups either have sway or pitch you forward.
As part of my upcoming exercise database site, I'll be cataloging all the smith exercises I can find. I suspect there will be hundreds.
These are all great points, Thanks for sharing!
Pulled the trigger on the manticore with lat pulldown attachment and this smith attachment. Looking forward to making massive gains this winter
I already order with a manticore rack. I apricate the lighter bar for my wife since it is not counter balanced. I will also mount it on the outside much lower so that the wife can use it for hip thrust and rdls.
Impressive. I would definitely get this for my home gym.
I’ve been waiting for this release. I’m looking at buying a new rack this coming spring (2025) this addition got me leaning BOS
So can this fit on a rep 80in if so I'm preordering right now. Great video
Same
Yes, it would fit
@@BELLSOFSTEEL Heck yes!
A leg press attachment and extended safety levers would be sweet!
is that possible with the hollow bar?
Great video. Looks like a great piece too and at a fair price. Also well thought out. This will be a winner in my opinion Keep up the good work BOS and you will be around for a long time.
This is awesome, maybe trolley options coming up? Just like Bulletproof fitness?
I hope COOP and GLUCK have these to try out
Gluck is a creepy groomer.
Smith machines have always been stellar in their own right. Only ignorant lifters turn up their noses at them and dog those who use them. Smith machines are a great option at times!
Will this mount on a rogue monster rack? do the brackets have options for one inch holes?
Any UK options at all!? This looks so good
We do ship to many places around the world.

Would be cool to have the ability to add j-hooks to the outside of the sliding bracket. I know they would need to be prolonged to be able to fit the weight plates, but the ability to slide j-hooks up and down with free weights would be so nice.
Definitely something for us to look into as we update the smith
When will the byob be available for pre sale?
It was up for pre-sale but has already sold out.
We are working hard to quickly get more back in stock, be sure to sign up for our newsletter on our website as we'll announce the moment it becomes available for order again
The byob is already sold out??? Are you dropping more? Also can you confirm if it will fit 80" tall rack?
Yes, the presale has sold out. but we are working hard to add more inventory for pre-order.
Be sure to sign up for our newsletter, that's where we'll be announcing restocks.
Yes, it will fit a 80" tall rack
I see on the site, it will be not fit on 47'' width rack ? Need BYOB version for any rack (49'' wide) ? Thanks B.O.S
If you can make a taller version that would be awesome. More range of motion yes, I mainly want it so the bar can be high enough to be out of the way in the rack and i don't need to duck down. I have 100 inch rogue rack that can handle much taller. but even if its just 90 inch rack height that would be awesome.
That could be in the works further down the road. It's something we'll test for sure.
Would this work on a titan t3 squat rack by chance?
Got that fresh haircut 😎
In any configuration will this work with a Rogue FM-6 Twin?
I have never seen anyone drop a smith bar ever in my 25+ years of lifting.
It depends on the Depth of your FM-6 twin
It would need to go on the inside of the cage and have clearance for the front trolley/cables.
If there's enough clearance, then it should fit
you can contact our support team with your rack measurements to be sure. support@bellsofsteel.com
Yall should mail out that chest expander to some reviewers so i can see it perform before i buy
LOL looks like they immediately deleted my comment 🤣
I know the stated minimum height is 84''. I would be extremely interested to know if this fits on a rep pr5000 80'' rack. This seems like the absolute best smith option out there right now (bolt fitness, bulletproof vts etc) but unfortunately I think a lot of us are SOL if we have the 80'' rep rack.
we updated the page, it fits on as sort as 72 inch
Can you fit it within a half rack that has a weight stack like the kraken. The front posts would be still free for jhooks
It would depend how much depth the weight stacks take up. The smith machine needs about 10" of depth in the rack.
@@BELLSOFSTEEL what would be the recommended depth of rack be to accommodate kraken and smith machine? I haven't bought a rack yet so it'll probably be hydra. Would 24 depth inch work?
I am wondering the same thing.. Will it fit a 24" half rack or rear part of a 6-posts racks that is 24"..
I am looking at the 6-post manticore 30/24 and that will already has a kraken in the back
Is there anyway to use a cambered bar on the BYOB system?
Unfortunately not, the cambered angle wouldn't fit into the trolleys.
The hooks look like they barely latch with that BYOB version. Is that configurable?
Yes, that can be configured.
I was just on the Bells of Steel page looking for a smith machine but I didn't see anything so I ordered something else 😢
Check again! It should be there
we're sold out of the byob version but still have some standard versions left.
more will be added for pre-order soon
You need to make handles like bullet proof fitness did so it’s like a smith dumbbell press
definitely something for us to explore on future verisons
are the front feet stabillizers you have on this rack compatible with the 60mm racks you guys sell?
Unfortunately not. Those are only available for the hydra and manticore 3x3 racks
Love the idea! Only downsides I really see:
1. ROM - the smith bar needs to be able to get lower to be closer to the ground for movements like hip thrusts, rows, RDL, etc...
2. Hook points inside - these should be on the outside of the rack so they don't encroach on the interior space or use a saw-tooth style latch point. Right now they can hit your elbows when benching.
3. Stopper for the hook rotation - couldn't quite tell but you generally want some sort of stopper so the hook can't rotate upside down and become difficult to re-rack
Still definitely a great solution for those that need it! Hope to see a leg press plate attachment and other accessories in the future.
Definitely some good points! Something for us to explore as we update this machine for future versions.
We want to point out though that both BYOB and Standard versions have stoppers that prevent the hook from rotating upside down.
2. Most smiths have the hook points inside, and are often narrower than this. Doubt the hooks get in the way of your elbows, they're like 2-3", the rack is 49" wide and it's stemming from near the middle of the 3" upright, so there's probably at LEAST 42" space between the tips.
But probably more importantly, they're well behind the bar shaft which is where your wrists would be, so that'd be awkward to even try to get your elbows that far behind your wrists to flair them out and get in the way with straight or angled smith bar path.
Also if they were on the outside, you probably wouldn't be able to fit a regular bar/no BYOB comfortably due to bar width/rack width.
3. There is a stopper it's just hard to see
If you want it lower then mount it lower on the outside. If needed just make your thing for it sit on as a brace. That is what makes this machine so great. BOS is all about modularity, that is their strongest strength compared to their competitors.
@@Okcp12 You'd be surprised how much the pegs make an impact!
I didn't think it would be a concern but I have an all-in-one rack with smith that is 48" wide and the smith hook points are on the inside just like this BOS one and at 6ft tall my elbows definitely can hit them when bench pressing so I have to turn around and put my bench backwards, so my head is towards the outside of the rack to get around this.
A saw-tooth design for the latch points or having the pegs on the outside fixes this problem, though the saw-tooth style would probably still allow for BYOB so may be the way to go.
The best all-in-ones w/smith put them on the outside like the RitFit M1 2.0 for a budget friendly option.
It may not be as much of a concern with a 49" rack and/or if you're shorter but definitely something that could be improved with future revisions!
so on a full wall mount rack, like Hydra, that i mostly leave out would it be completely undoable if i only need to fold when i get in the attic? I realize i would either have to remove the bar or the brackets to fold but what about the support side?
That's an interesting one.
It should be doable. There will be some added weight to the front, which might pull the rack forward which may cause it to drag along the floor, but if you remove the bar, it should still fit. You would need to fold out outwards instead of inward though.
thanks for the reply. tempted to relocate the attic door but last time i did one i swore i would never again
Hey I have the same shirt
Man, this won’t fit on my Titan x-3 sad😢
It likely will fit on any 3x3 rack
Awesome, this way you can easily do belt squats. Perfect
Give up on the hair Kaevon, you'd actually look dope if you shaved it off, especially with the current beard length/shape.
I agree but my wife says my receding hairline fade makes me look cute
