Old story, but, Any game like this, 100% built around microtransactions, should automatically lose 2 or 3 points, and start with a 7/10 score. When we have huge websites like ign or gamespot, which are followed by at least 50 million American gamers, who mostly take their reviews for gospel, these 2 websites alone have the power to make a game sell 3, 4, 5 million copies, or sell only a few hundred thousands... A huge majority of these 50+ million US gamers will wait and rely on their reviews, too buy a game or not. Most of these 50 million US gamers will head to the review page, will ignore the 2 or 3 pages full of bla bla, and will jump right to the bottom section, the verdict and final score. No matter how bad a game may be, if ign, gamespot or polygon give the game a 9 or 9.5 out of 10, with the final words ' great game, go buy it ', several million gamers will immediately order the game online, or will run to their local store, and buy it. It is a shame, that games like wwe, fifa, NBA, madden, or lord of shadows,, etc, which are basically unplayable if the gamer doesn't spend hundreds, if not thousands of dollars, still get these almost perfect scores, from these big websites. Worse, these big websites might write a 20 page review about the game, without EVER mentioning the word 'microtransactions' ! Games like fifa 19 should be forbidden. Probably 90% of the gamers paying it are 7 to 16yo kids. 10yo kids ask their parents for psn cards, so they can buy those player packs, and hopefully, obtain some good players. Bug the scam goes even further. When we obtain a good player, after spending 300 or 500 bucks, that player won't be ours forever. No, of course not. We only have it four 14 or 7 days. If a kid gets a messi, after spending 200 bucks, and the next week, he has some exams, and can't play, when he launches the game 10 days later, messi IS GONE ! he must buy new player packs, spend another 100...200.. or even 1000 dollars, so ne can have a chance to obtain the mesh card, again. This is a real shame, a true scam, that should be forbidden. Kids spend several billions dollars on these games and its manipulative techniques, just to be able to have the 'full experience', with the best players, best items, best customizations, etc etc, that just one decade ago, were totally free, as they were part of the game, and could be obtained by simply playing and progressing thought the game. It is then clear that ign and gamespot are 300% behind these big game studios like EA.
You just know EA bought those review scores from Gamespot and IGNorance. That right there is the proof you can't trust major gaming journalists. There are Football games that came out nearly 20 years ago that are better than this, which of course is why EA bought exclusive rights to make NFL games.

Madden isn't their golden goose, that would probably be FIFA but it's gotta be second as far as consistant revenue. If you had a way of making money on a consistant basis, like EA has for certain titles wouldn't you keep cranking them out year after year regardless of quality? What happened was EA's exclusivity contract with the NFL. Who knew that when you create a monopoly on something and eliminate competition, quality declines rather than improves over time. Until someone can back up a large enough dump truck full of money to the NFL league offices to break EA's exclusivity you will never see a quality NFL licensed football game again.

Honestly the truth is that Madden 19 is far better than 16, 17, or 18. They were all the same game which ended up getting rated around 4.7/10 by every company. Madden 19 made a huge step up this year, making the game feel more realistic, less stupid fumbles, WAY more immersive and entertaining Franchise mode, and you don’t need to spend a lot of money to be caught up with MUT. That’s why it’s being rated a 9/10. This game is A LOT different.

(As a history lesson, the 96 iterations generally were the first ones to get 3D with sprite characters, 97 brought full 3D players, and 98 was still a significant update to 97, but after that they've all been slow going, mid-00s had decent bump with more complex controls and then nearing the 2010 they rolled in Ultimate Team, since then I don't think they've really done much anything other than increase microtransactions...)

Madden 04!!!!!! You can create a team with infinite salary cap, with whatever stats you want for each player, and you can swap out any mp3 for whatever in game music you want. But I guess technology is waaaaay toooo advanced to do anything like that in 2018.

It's so bad, I'm shocked that it's a released game. ACM didn't have tearing like this! and it's low motion graphics as well. I don't understand how that could have gotten through Q/A testing without an internal dialing down on textures to stablize the rendering. C'mon it's on EA's very own logo! It's as if it was all slapped together from high quality source textures and wapped up into a release without even looking at it. For you kids out there: Televisions from the 90's... I'll go back farther, the 80's didn't ever have screen tearing, or motion artifacts, nor cut-outs either (unless the power went out, or someone hit a telephone pole heh). The resolution was awefull by todays standards, yes. Yet the content was almost infinately more reliable (stable) than it is today. To put it another way; Analog was low low def, but nearly bulletproof in operation. Even when the signal went weak, you could still make out most of what was happening in the game, now we get nothing at all for several moments. Yay!
I was a total Madden fanboy for almost a decade. Played it on PS2/3 I bought 2001-2010 new, and even stood in line for midnight releases. 2010 was utter garbage. It had next gen graphics but was a polished turd. I promised I wouldn't buy one new again until user ratings returned. I didn't think my boycott would extend into its 9th year. Sad.

This is a real shame, a true scam, that should be forbidden. Kids spend several billions dollars on these games and its manipulative techniques, just to be able to have the 'full experience', with the best players, best items, best customizations, etc etc, that just one decade ago, were totally free, as they were part of the game, and could be obtained by simply playing and progressing thought the game.
It is then clear that ign and gamespot are 300% behind these big game studios like EA.

You just know EA bought those review scores from Gamespot and IGNorance. That right there is the proof you can't trust major gaming journalists. There are Football games that came out nearly 20 years ago that are better than this, which of course is why EA bought exclusive rights to make NFL games.

Madden isn't their golden goose, that would probably be FIFA but it's gotta be second as far as consistant revenue. If you had a way of making money on a consistant basis, like EA has for certain titles wouldn't you keep cranking them out year after year regardless of quality? EA has become kind of like a black hole of sorts, sucking up anything and everything that comes into its path destroying game companies as it eats up the competition, no competition easier for EA to continue to get away with crappy games, just that simple.

What happened was EA's exclusivity contract with the NFL. Who knew that when you create a monopoly on something and eliminate competition, quality declines rather than improves over time. Honestly the truth is that Madden 19 is far better than 16, 17, or 18. They were all the same game which ended up getting rated around 4.7/10 by every company. Madden 19 made a huge step up this year, making the game feel more realistic, less stupid fumbles, WAY more immersive and entertaining Franchise mode, and you don’t need to spend a lot of money to be caught up with MUT. That’s why it’s being rated a 9/10. This game is A LOT different.

People (including respectable magazine reviewers who haven't sold their soul yet) have been saying pretty much the same things about all EA sports games since about 1998-1999 or so, this isn't really anything new. (As a history lesson, the 96 iterations generally were the first ones to get 3D with sprite characters, 97 brought full 3D players, and 98 was still a significant update to 97, but after that they've all been slow going, mid-00s had decent bump with more complex controls and then nearing the 2010 they rolled in Ultimate Team, since then I don't think they've really done much anything other than increase microtransactions...)

Madden 04!!!!!! You can create a team with infinite salary cap, with whatever stats you want for each player, and you can swap out any mp3 for whatever in game music you want. But I guess technology is waaaaay toooo advanced to do anything like that in 2018.
Madden 08 had those features and many more. Relocation was possible to multiple cities.

This looks like something I'd see on a slightly malfunctioning, pre-built, single-core Pentium 4 Windows XP computer from 2002. It just needed some extreme dithering and lower color depth so that it would look indistinguishable from something that got downloaded off Kazaa.
It's so bad, I'm shocked that it's a released game. ACM didn't have tearing like this! and it's low motion graphics as well. I don't understand how that could have gotten through Q/A testing without an internal dialing down on textures to stablize the rendering. C'mon it's on EA's very own logo! It's as if it was all slapped together from high quality source textures and wapped up into a release without even looking at it.
For you kids out there: Televisions from the 90's... I'll go back farther, the 80's didn't ever have screen tearing, or motion artifacts, nor cut-outs either (unless the power went out, or someone hit a telephone pole heh). The resolution was awefull by todays standards, yes. Yet the content was almost infinately more reliable (stable) than it is today. To put it another way; Analog was low low def, but nearly bulletproof in operation. Even when the signal went weak, you could still make out most of what was happening in the game, now we get nothing at all for several moments. Yay!

I was a total Madden fanboy for almost a decade. Played it on PS2/3 I bought 2001-2010 new, and even stood in line for midnight releases. 2010 was utter garbage. It had next gen graphics but was a polished turd. I promised I wouldn't buy one new again until user ratings returned. I didn't think my boycott would extend into its 9th year. Sad.

In order to get the team you want you have to buy the super special deluxe edition and get a special ultra lootbox and then open a 2nd lootbox inside of that one you will have to unlock a challenge that gives you 24 hours to unlock three more lootboxes and then in the third one you can get the player you want joe .

It’s not just Madden that does this shit. Literally every sports game is like this. NBA 2k, FIFA, and so on. They are all just the same exact game with such minimal changes that it JUST BARELY crosses the line to be worth 60 dollar even though THEY ARE NOT. They should be FREE TO PLAY or release one every 2 to 4 years with free updates in between such as roster changes.
