      AGREED! Has good capability, very solid reliability, HVAC and infotainment are simply laid out, no worse or better on gas than the others really (even if the EPA numbers suggest otherwise), and the price is excellent. When you compare it to most of these trucks, similarly equipped, the competitors are wildly expensive.

    As a current owner of my second Colorado, I honestly agree with everything you reported! My first was a 2016 Ext Cab Z71,4x4,V6, that we owned for the wife to commute with and for both of us to use towing our 22’ 4,000 lbs Travel Trailer with ease. For three years and over 80,000 trouble free miles. But after we both retired and needed only one vehicle, we traded for a new Crew Cab in 2019, this time only a W/T 4x4, V6, that’s actually loaded, but only with what we need an use now in sunny Florida. That means no heated seats and a few other items. But we still have OnStar 4 G LTE WIFI, 7” Touch Screen, all towing equipment including trailer brake controller, auto locking rear differential, nice 16” Alloy Wheels, tinted windows, bright trim and body colored bumpers and door handles and mirrors. Along with Cruise Control. Plus I was able to get the dealer to install a 2” Longer Travel Coilover front with matching rear Fox Shocks with Firestone Air Bags, for off road and towing, along with all the AEV Boron Skid Plates made for the ZR 2 Bison. Together with 32” Goodyear DuraTrax tires! All together with a 84 month 100,000 Bumper to Bumper Warranty, for the on the road price of a very reasonable 35K!!

If I was in any other vehicle I would be in the hospital or dead. The only damage was ear sensitivity due to the 150 DB side air bag in my left ear. If the truck had a frame, it would have been much much worse. Something to think about if you ever are in a severe crash. Replacing it with another one. I didn't even have a stiff neck the next day.

    I had a 2017 2wd Toyota Tacoma 4 cyd engine Mine was a SR. The problem was the lousy transmission. My truck would change gears way too much.even on flat roads. I just traded mine off for a 2019 Ford Ranger XLT . What an improvement. I love the engine, the 10 speed transmission is great. I never feel it change, To me the ride is great. I have the top 4x4 off road package.
    I have had trucks all of my life. I started with a Dakota 1991 then a 1995, then the last model 2011 Dakota Bighorn. That was a great truck! Now I am a Ford Guy! and love it.

I haven't driven the Gladiator but I've driven the new Wranglers, I have driven a couple of Frontiers, haven't driven a new gen Ridgline yet... in 2018 I bought a Colorado Z71 extended cab and for me it's perfect.
    Strong engine, decent fuel economy, good off-road chops (I took off the front spoiler and added more skid plates), perfectly laid out interior, good looks, and excellent driving manners, and the fixed corner bumper steps to get in the bed are genius. Wrong, people who buy Tacomas want to be thought of as intelligent and nothing more. When you buy a vehicle it says a lot about how you want to be viewed and how you think of yourself. I've found that most Tacoma guys are passive aggressive nerd types who work in IT but want to believe they are also "rugged individuals" outside of their crappy IT job. They also want people to think they make rational and high IQ decisions. So they buy Toyota. The reality is that Toyota may have invented factory processes that increased reliability substantially but they did that almost 50 years ago at this point and the rest of the industry has caught up. The ongoing myth of Toyota reliability is well earned but at this point it's just a myth. Every other major manufacturer has adopted what Toyota invented. It's time to stop living in the past. Toyota definitely invented reliability but they no longer own it. It's a myth at this point.

Also, this review mentioned that the Tacoma didn't have much leg room, but didn't mention that the Tacoma is one of the most reliable vehicles on the road and holds it's resale value like nothing else. Also, this review didn't mention that the Ridgeline has lots of back seat leg room and offers the most comfortable ride in it's class. If you're going to review pickups, do it properly and fairly. As you said 5000lb towing capacity (on all of them now, the 2017-2018 FWD trim models that are no longer offered only did 3500, which is still more than the 3000lbs of a base model tacoma). Calm down, they can only go off of what they were sent. Chevy decided to send they're top of the line zr2, while everyone else just sent a truck over. On top of that, they mentioned it was the most customizable truck. While also boasting best mpg with BiC towing. That's three categories that it exceeds at, on top of the fact that it has a decently low starting price. Sure that price doesn't affect the zr2 in anyway but it contributed to its overall score. I'm pretty sure they took into account the starting price of the other trucks. The Colorado's customizable nature allows it to be more appealing than the other trucks as well.

Please don’t let your outside biases control your reviews, I know it doesn’t look like a truck, with the capabilities of the Ridgeline or insane. The moral of the story is the Ridgeline is the truck that most people need, but because of how it looks less people opt out to get something that looks a little bit more fancy. So to open your review by saying that the truck didn’t even make the list without even talking about the capabilities seems a little unfair. Specially when it has features and most of the other trucks haven’t even implemented yet.

    I test drove the Colorado, and I really liked it. But GM has just destroyed any confidence I used to have in their ability to make a quality vehicle. It's a shame... I'd really like to buy it I just don't see it going 150k miles without major repairs. I'd get the Honda if I didn't hunt and fish, I'd get the Frontier in a manual (if they still made one), and I'd end up buying the Taco because it'll Taco for 20 years and 300k miles. Does the Gladiator come with a 30 year mortgage?

    Had a Chevy Colorado Z71 Diesel for the last 2 years. It has been used in all areas, general driving, hauling stuff of weight like 2 big block Ford engines to a customer to put into his boat, a drive with an engine from So Cal to Florida, then returning with another engine in the back and towing a 1965 Mustang home on a trailer, it has not let me down! So far I really like this truck. My only real critique is the sound system. It had the stock system with all of the features, but the speakers totally stink! Be sure you get the Bose option. I also did put an aftermarket differential cover on it to add some capacity to the rear end lube. Note, when I drained the factory lube it was really cruddy stuff. I replaced it with Redline 75W/90 and it is smoother and well, I feel better about it. Lastly, the front end was way out of kilter. After the first year I asked the dealer to fix it and they wouldn't, so I put it on my friends super duper 4 wheel alignment machine; nothing was right. Glad I did that before that trip from So Cal to Florida and back!
    I wanted the Ford Ranger and was hoping they would put the diesel in it that the offer in Australia. I rented one in Australia and was very.... very impressed. But sadly, they only offer the 2.3 with the hair dryer.

    Great comparison video! Very detailed and to the point, but I do have to respectfully disagree with her final choice of the Colorado. From a power perspective it’s definitely one of the best, but reliability wise it’s nothing compared to the Ridgeline or the Tacoma. Hate on me if you want but General Motors quality control has dropped dramatically over the years, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the transmission goes out in just 30k miles. I personally would never lay a finger on a GM product but good luck to those who have made that choice and hope for a dependable vehicle.

      Agreed, Rud45. I was surprised they didn't even mention reliability in this review. If that had been part of the comparison, no way in hell the Chevy would be recommended. Those things and the GMC Canyon twin are perennial inclusions at the bottom of reliability lists. The Gladiator will likely be on those lists as well once the miles start piling up on that FCA platform.

    Good review overall, unfortunately it didn't help my choice at all. Mostly just told me that I should shop all of them for the features I want and buy which ever is lowest priced. • @RedWingsninetyone
      @RedWingsninetyone 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I went through this recently. Hopefully my thought process helps you, if you care to read it.
      It truly depends what you are looking for. I have looked pretty hard at the truck segment since about 2014. I was dead set on the F150 but ended up going with the Tacoma because I didn't need anything as big as the F150.
      I had a Canyon and was having some trust issues with GM and reliability which ultimately turned me off toward the current Colorado/Canyon models. That being said my father has a 2015 Colorado and loves it.
      I felt Ford was half-assing their return with the Ranger and I ultimately just didn't like it. The rest of the world has had the same Ranger (different engine and some minor cosmetic changes) since roughly 2011 and they called it "all new." Not to mention you need to take the driver's side front tire off to get to the oil filter; which is fine if you are also rotating your tires then too.
      My father in law has the 2008 Frontier which is the same as the current one (prior to 2020 anyway because they changed engines this year and will change the body in 2021). He likes the truck, but I'm not super impressed. However, like Toyota, they've made it so long that it is very reliable.
      The Gladiator is still unproven and FCA has a lot of questionable reliability over the years. Price aside, ultimately it didn't fit what I was looking for.
      I just flat out didn't even consider the Ridgeline. The only thing about that truck that appealed to me was the under-bed storage.
      The Tacoma checked nearly every box I had from the F150 at a lower price with likely higher resale value and proven reliability. The only things it didn't have was the same amount of space (which was expected) and it wasn't made of aluminum. Given that I live in the rust belt, that was a major selling point for the F150 for me. But I was also able to get the TRD Off Road trim at a very reasonable price, especially if you consider the other trims (minus TRD Pro) aren't priced that much differently. Toyota is never cutting edge in technology and features, but that's also why they're so reliable.
      Given that I grew up a GM person, it took a lot for me to admit Ford and Toyota had better products. I hope this helps you a bit.

      True it doesn't unnecessarily pump up your ego, and most people who own a truck in this segment would be better off with a car with a trailer hitch or an SUV with one. This segment of truck is largely unnecessary but utility and everyday usability has simple convienvce - people's pragmatic opinion like this blue book piece is like watching a piece about SUVs saying they all suck because they aren't cars in the promotion thereof... despite reasons they may be practical or desired. But if one wanted to feel super duper buy the gladiator because it is easily the coolest truck in the segment, and kicks but in features in features no one uses like rock crawling and such (well shouldn't say no one, but a limited few to give you the idea of coolness that makes you like the pros that do).
      Cheers

      I own a 17 Ridgeline, and it has even impressed my father who only buys 3/4 tons. My only complaint about the Ridgeline is it's width. It is 78.6" wide, for comparison an F150 is 79.9", so it is still a bit of a squeeze to get into small parking spots and still be able to open the doors, just like a full size truck. That said, it makes for a wonderfully roomy interior.

  • @Hammerdak
    @Hammerdak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    If you’re going to compare vehicles fairly then quoting the Ridgeline’s base price , with 4doors, AWD, dent resistant bed and standard tow package to the other truck’s base prices is unfair. The other trucks base prices are for 2wd, 4 cyl, two door , bare bed variants.
    While I’m at it....why does every decent car review show skidpad , braking and slalom test results but you never see trucks compared that way.
    I’ll bet the average truck’s tendency to fish-tail , due to an empty bed, would make for some very useful data when considering which one is safest during emergency lane changes.

      1: i dont tow much but need the bed
      2: the taco gets a hell of a lot better gas mileage. been averaging 21-22mpg every tank. the tundras mileage is abysmal. 16-18 average?

Everything about the canyon fit my needs perfectly except for the engine. I had to mash the throttle if I needed it to move, very annoying.Truck seemed too heavy for the v6. Very solid truck though. My ram 1500 now is great in the engine department but doesn’t have big infotainment screen and heated seats and creature comforts as canyon.But why I got the canyon was because it was “midsize”. Perfect for my 5’8” stature. I could reach everything easily, glove compartment, park easier and reach inside bed easier and even get into bed easier. That’s why people get midsize trucks.
