Every once in a while our dreary lives are graced with the presence of genius. Such was Karen Carpenter. To her dying day I doubt that she was really conscious of how great she was
All these years and she is still just amazing. Funny how singers these days have all the flash, dancers, explosions......she just stood there and sang and blew them all away and still does.
I've been in love with Karen for 45 years, and her songs continue to soothe me even as the world around us grows more hectic every day. I saw her in concert in 1973 and that remains one of my most precious memories. Thank you Karen, and thanks to Richard for the marvelous instrumentation that was just right for her vocals. I miss Karen so much.
+Jim Southern Awww... you're making me cry. What an amazing, beautiful and talented woman she was. Although I was only 2 when she died but I love her music ;-)
Could not agree more. I saw them in 74 at a dinner show at Lake Tahoe. I was 13, when she started singing and playing the drums at the same time, I was hooked. These video's always make it hard not to tear up a little.
Perfect description of Karen, too good for this cruel world, now in God's protection. She was my first musical love during my college dayswhen my friend and I used to listen to Carpentrrs Gold records every Sunday.
There will never be another Karen Carpenter. Her voice, so clear and strong, I listen to their songs often and it brings me back to a simpler more reflective time when people seemed to care about one another. Hearing their songs also make me think of friends that have passed or friends that I no longer know. Although these songs do make me sad it also somehow makes me feel real emotions.
it makes you really think what the heck has happened to our country... it like my god what we have to live in now since karens days its no wonder we those days abd the 80s we wish we could go back to our tyme when things were safe and everyone was nice and did care...
I'm 22 years old and love the Carpenters because of my parents. I remember listening to this song on repeat many times since I was a child. I loved it that much. I wanted to go to a Carpenters live show, just once. And I wanted to immerse myself in Karen's voice live.
I was going to write something profound, but I just stared at the keyboard and couldn't think of anything to say. What else is there to say, really? Karen had the voice of an angel and I love all their songs.
The irony about this is that while it was obvious to me that Karen had a magnificent voice I was not a big Carpenters fan. But my cousin Debra (RIP) was always. She became ill in 1997 with scleroderma. I was forced to take a deeper listen...and realized just how much they meant to her, and eventually me. I did not know in the beginning how much I actually related to the songs. We lost her seven years ago. And while it still hurts, hearing these songs make me feel like she is here. And Karen too
Karen Carpenter died too early. Why is it many great singers leave us to soon. She had a clear voice not like singers today that have to scream their songs, so you can't understand them. We will miss you Karen
He was actually jealous of her because he was the driving force and Karen received all the praise. Her voice is something else and completely underrated, but Richard did a LOT of the grunt work.Their mother Agnes really favored Richard over Karen. Richard and his piano playing always came first. Karen's voice came in when they really needed a singer, she just got that voice one day, vocal instructors didn't dare mess with it. She played the drums and sang which was quite a rarity back then.
I just heard this exact song at he supermarket this morning... INSTANTLY recognizable after the first two notes! As turns out, I wasn't the only one brought to tears while the song was playing! :') I have to admit though..... I'm probably the only one there (among my generation) that visibly had tears running down my eyes... everyone else (who happened to also be visibly moved to tears) was old enough to be my parents! Eh..... doesn't matter..... it just goes to show that GREAT music survives and resonates throughout time!!
It is sad because even at their height they were dismissed by critics, we’re not considered cool by anyone older than 12, And though they sold many albums and records, it almost was a music of another time when rock ‘n’ roll is really the popular style. Yet no I think they are greatly respected. Kind of like Abba. People see the incredible musicianship in their pop music
There will never be another "Carpenters." Karen and Richard gave the world so much. they both were had there own seperate wonderfully unique talents that when combined made a sound we shall never here again on earth. To me, they truly were and are a Godsend. They are truly beyond words for me but a constant reminder of our maker, for only the Almighty could have made a duo that did and forever will have such a wonderful and profound effect on us. Thank you for the music!
THEE ultimate female "crooner" thee ultimate singer who sang TO YOU NOT AT YOU! the most pure, rich, beautiful, clear, haunting, emotive voice i have ever heard and will ever hear...
Even today, with all the vocal "acrobatics" that are the key to winning on "The Voice" and "AGT", her voice stands alone. No autotune, no embellishments, nothing added other than a little studio reverb...that was Karen, and it's as good now as it was then.
We will never again have artists like the carpenters, the bee bees, Barry manillow, Barbra Streisand air supply, great artists that just seemed to knock out powerful love ballets. Loved Karen I so wish I could have seen her in concert. A voice of an angel. R I p Karen
Karen brought harmonic beauty to music like no one did before or after. I cannot say for certain if the world will still be Graced by her voice for another 100 yrs. In fact if the world hasn't self destructed with in a 100 yrs , we'll be blessed by that. The double blessing would be still hearing Karen's voice.
Once in awhile, I hear an old song and I'm transported back. I was five years old when this was released. I don't remember where I was or how I remember it, but I remember the shadow of the emotions I had hearing it. Hearing it now does something inside my soul. Music is so powerful. I hope my children experience it like I did. God bless the Carpenter's for the work they did. It has a resonance that still echoes decades later.
There will never be groups like this again! We will never again have artists like we had in the 60s 70s and 80s! Wow how I miss Karens voice, silenced for ever! Wow it's so painful to even wright this!
In my opinion, any woman singing in the lower register sounds beautiful to me. Karen surely did and the Carpenters made some of the best music to come out of the Seventies.
Day after day, I must face a world of strangers Where I don't belong I'm not that strong It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to Who will always care, you're always there When there's no gettin' over that rainbow When my smallest of dreams won't come true I can take, all the madness the world has to give But I won't last a day without you So many times when the city seems to be Without a friendly face, a lonely place It's nice to know that you'll be there if I need you And you'll always smile, it's all worthwhile When there's no gettin' over that rainbow When my smallest of dreams won't come true I can take all the madness the world has to give But I won't last day without you Touch me and I end up singing Trouble seems to up and disappear You touch me with the love you're bringing I can't really lose when you're near When you're near, my love If all my friends have forgotten half their promises they're not unkind Just hard to find One look at you and I know That I couldn't learn to live without the rest I've found the best When there's no gettin' over the rainbow When my smallest of dreams won't come true I can take all the madness the world has to give But I won't last a day without you When there's no geetin' over that rainbow When my smallest of dreams won't come true I can take all the madness the world has to give But I won't last a day without you
You know, I miss Karen every day. She was beyond just good and there has never been another singer like her IMHO. While I am happy that Richard has his car collection and everything he ever wanted, I cannot help but feel, that he and his family were responsible for her problems. I have great respect for Richard and his talents, but I believe that her family seeing Richard as the golden boy all those years and focusing on him constantly while putting Karen off to the side, affected her deeply. Her lack of self esteem came from that. She could have and should have been saved. I guess I am still angry over that. Just goes to show you that no matter how many millions of fans adore you, they cannot replace the love and affection of family. Karen Carpenter will remain the greatest female voice of all time, IMHO.
I agree, She was especially effected by her mom. I don't understand how her own mother didn't appreciate her daughter Karen's Flawless Beautiful Angelic voice. I wish her family showed her more love and compassion. Oherwise she may have still been alive today. I miss Karen so much.
Blooming pies,I know what you mean.Reminds me of when Lucille Ball said Desi was the driving force but everyone knew Lucy was the biggest talent on the show.
I like the songs from the CD "If I Were a Carpenter" which are alternative covers of some of Carpenters greatest. Performing are: Shonen Knife, Sonic Youth, American Music Club, Bettie Serveert, among others. The record label "A&M" released the CD.
Every once in a while our dreary lives are graced with the presence of genius. Such was Karen Carpenter. To her dying day I doubt that she was really conscious of how great she was
Agreed, she was one of the most special people this world has ever hosted. .. . ❤❤❤
The best of the best
Agreed! The most beautiful singing voice of all time, hands down!
All these years and she is still just amazing. Funny how singers these days have all the flash, dancers, explosions......she just stood there and sang and blew them all away and still does.
💯 True mate.... These songs are out of the world... Nothing can match those good old school songs...♥️💙😃
I couldn't agree more!! I miss her!
Today’s so-called “singers” are all auto tuned, digitized wannabes. Karen was, and still is, one of the greatest singers ever!!
Magic is gone.
“My words have lost the best voice they’ll ever know.”- John Bettis. 😞😞
One of their best songs. I love The Carpenters.
Great lyrics sung by the greatest singer of all time.

+Jim Southern Awww... you're making me cry. What an amazing, beautiful and talented woman she was. Although I was only 2 when she died but I love her music ;-)
Who cares shut up!
Jim i agree. Its so hard in these days but listening to these songs and letting them tske us back to sn easier time is just great.
Could not agree more. I saw them in 74 at a dinner show at Lake Tahoe. I was 13, when she started singing and playing the drums at the same time, I was hooked. These video's always make it hard not to tear up a little.
A troubled angel, probably too good for this world. What a voice and what a time. The world is much poorer with her not here.
Perfect description of Karen, too good for this cruel world, now in God's protection. She was my first musical love during my college dayswhen my friend and I used to listen to Carpentrrs Gold records every Sunday.
Born in the 90s and just got married with this song for our first dance. You just can’t beat the voice of Karen Carpenter
Exactement mon avis... Bisous et plein de bonheur à vous deux ❤️🤗❤️🤗❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Her voice is pure gold. It is so sad that Elvis and her life were cut so tragically short what a waste.
it makes you really think what the heck has happened to our country... it like my god what we have to live in now since karens days its no wonder we those days abd the 80s we wish we could go back to our tyme when things were safe and everyone was nice and did care...

It's been close to 40 years since we lost this great voice. I still miss Karen.
That song can be put on repeat all day long and I never get tired of it. What a gem. And what a voice -- there will never be another like hers.

The bee bees?!?
I was privileged to see her (them) perform in Adelaide May 1972. Total professional. Possibly the best concert I ever went to.
Beebees
Don't forget journey, Chicago
The great thing about the Carpenters is they sounded in concert just like their records.
The lyrics are so sweet and warmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
She could sing the phone book and I would be transfixed. I miss her so much.
Karen brought harmonic beauty to music like no one did before or after.

Even after many years am still trying to figure out where Richard and his cars seem to fit into this beautiful song
Richard felt that he did not get enough appreciation for his talents.

They're not unkind, just hard to find "
I'm still listening Saturday, the 17th of October, 2020. Loving every second of this wonderful song of 1972. 🎙️🎼🎵🎶

Great legend song....it is soo pleasent and relaxing. Ahh , my man those good gold days..wish I was born in those times....💙♥️😃
Day after day, I must face a world of strangers
Where I don't belong I'm not that strong
It's nice to know that there's someone I can turn to
Who will always care, you're always there
When there's no gettin' over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take, all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you
So many times when the city seems to be
Without a friendly face, a lonely place
It's nice to know that you'll be there if I need you
And you'll always smile, it's all worthwhile
When there's no gettin' over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last day without you
Touch me and I end up singing
Trouble seems to up and disappear
You touch me with the love you're bringing
I can't really lose when you're near
When you're near, my love
If all my friends have forgotten half their promises they're
not unkind
Just hard to find
One look at you and I know
That I couldn't learn to live without the rest
I've found the best
When there's no gettin' over the rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you
When there's no geetin' over that rainbow
When my smallest of dreams won't come true
I can take all the madness the world has to give
But I won't last a day without you
5 stars --From JZP Corona Del Mar CA
That's timeless & awesome 👌 music.
Top 5 voices in pop music history
What do you want out of a song? Karen Carpenter gives everything here.
This is real music. :D
My daily routine to avoid stress brought by this pandemic., and also relaxation.
i feel sentimental every time i hear this song because this song we use to sing during our JS Promenade..
Karen Carpenter like David Gates has a voice that seems to come from Heaven: an angel voice
Omg I can’t believe she is gone, I was in 10 th grade when she passed! I must say I was crushed! Her voice is sheer heaven!
I love the best song among Carpenters
Magic😁
Who still 2020?
Awesome.....
Karen had the voice of an angel. Karen and David were absolute magic.
And you mean Richard ?????
Yes I meant Richard too. I said that they were pure magic together.
if you notice at the end of the song at the very end Karen sits down and she looks very sad yes she had her problems very sad situation
An angel singing
yah,i won't last the day without you my love....
There's 2 ways to describe Karen Carpenter- Beautiful ❤️ and Soothing 🤗
Old but gold. Love the carpenters so much!
