I used to work on Tons at the start of my career , great little ships and a way to learn all of a ships vital systems pretty quickly .

The RN's Ton's looks alot like the RCN's old Bay Class Sweepers.
When I was just 18, my first ship was the HMCS Chigneto, PFL 160 back in 1978. By the time I got on her, even though she still had her main sweep gear, she was classified as a Patrol Frigate Light and basically trained MARS Bars, aka Officer Cadets in basic ship handling and navigation. Later they removed the aft winch and place a deck house on the vacant spot to house even more Officer Kidiots.......
The one thing I do remember about her, was that she would roll heavily even if only perched atop a slightly damp teabag.
She is long gone now. Pity, but at least a couple of her sisters survive. One was turned into a floating school and research vessel and another is awaiting either breaking up or refitting, that one is in rather sad shape unfornately.

15:00 Crashboat manned, no industrial safety helmet, no RFD auto release on the pennant wire, only wearing foul weather jackets, and very likely not wearing hazardous duty life jackets. The good old days.

When did they get rid of the distinction between the RNR and the RNVR? My grandpa was definitely in the former - a he was qualified as a master mariner in the merchant navy, not an estate agent...

Very good 👍🏻 Just over 40 years ago when we had politicians with a backbone prepared to use armed force to defend our country and liberties.
