Keep a pair of his first size baby socks to hang on your chritmas tree. When he is older you can put a small treat in them. I did this with my boys. It was fun showing them each year how small their feet were as babies.
My brother does this with his kids! It was also a very useful tool trying to get his older kids (5 yr old twins) to understand how gentle they need to be with their (thus unborn) sibling, since there aren't any babies in the family they've been able to be around yet, and they didn't fully get the 'babies are delicate' concept at first.
If one DOES use cloth nappies / diapers: some experiential advice from a former nanny who has used ALL the variations, with many many children. Including the rectangular old-fashioned ones with the giant safety pin (not a favorite, but, done that!). Don't go for the velcro on the exterior. Go for the snaps. Why? NOISE! If you're changing a sleepy child, the loud velcro may disrupt your goal of a clean, sleeping child. I learned that one pretty fast, after velcro noise ruined some nap-times. Go for the snaps, instead. But, that's for the re-usable cloth nappies / diapers. No velcro! Too noisy! Plus, the velcro kind of tears up things in the wash. Go for snaps. Just a little tip for others out there, maybe making some diapering plans & decisions.
Can confirm. Snappies are better and easier, and washing the velcro is a pain!!! I almost destroyed a delicate bag from our bassinet liner velcroing to it mid wash.
also a former nanny and have one caveat, as someone who also has limited hand function and dexterity to about the same level of Jessica, snappies are not suitable for everyone and sometimes the velcro is the better option for the sake of your own health
I'm the oldest of five children and you've brought back all the memories of my pants (underwear) getting all ratty because they'd been washed in the same load as my youngest siblings bibs. the velcro just ate everything eventually.
My youngest cat has that in common with a lot of babies, maybe I should get something to carry him easier too because he is definitely heavier than your average newborn at 6kg.
My son is now 25. I kept a fabric sling in the house and both cars! We called him the Leech because he was constantly nursing. But they’re fantastic since you can put baby on the ground in it and undo it to make a floor mat!
@@abbysmommy1205 I tried the ones without the ring and padding but found with my fibromyalgia that the padding made a huge difference for me. That’s why they make so many different styles I suppose, we’re all unique individuals!
I don't think Im the intended audience but I get so much joy from seeing mom's that care so much about their kids. I never had a supportive mom and that cared so much
Same. If you like wholesome family videos, I recommend the YT channel "Real Couple". Their child Ruda is absolutely adorable and always manages to make me smile😊
I've found that the cloth diapers help with toilet training when they're older. Many of the new diapers keep the kids so dry they can't feel when they pee to learn the signs of when to go. A big wet diaper really lets you know and is so annoying that you are motivated as a kid to get out of them! Loved your list so much!!!
I agree. My cousin's kid got so used to wearing diapers, they couldn't go without it even when they were older and able to talk. That's when I understood why my mom always preferred cloth nappies to those diapers (besides it being environment-friendly as well)
Yeah, cloth diapers do have to be changed more frequently and you’re not doing anything wrong if the inner is wet! Just like you said it’s actually beneficial because it gives the child the feedback that “when I pee, I get wet”
Most people try to force toilet training before the child's brain has matured enough to connect the sensation of a full bladder, with eliminating and coordinating pulling down pants and getting to the potty/toilet so that doesn't help either and creates shame and accidents.
@@lauren8627 sounds like that's totally on how the parents handle it. Jessica have a video on how they unintentionally started elimination communication with Rupert at 8 months, most would say that's way too young for them to understand, but every kid is different
I love when both Jess and Claud are explaining the same thing in different ways, but they just speak at the same time, and it becomes a mess. 😂😂 I'm so used to see people on TH-cam orchestrating how they're gonna explain something so that it gets perfect, but in reality that's not how we explain things to friends and family. I love that momentum chaos
While every kid is different - especially kids preferences for rocking vs bouncing vs stillness - I Highly recommend you hold on to the stuff he doesn't like right now (bouncer and white noise especially). 4 months is a particularly tricky age as they start having sleep regressions and teething. Anything you have around to try to keep them asleep when their teeth hurt or help them cope when they're going through a tough developmental leap is good. 💜
I would definitely hang onto the noise machine for the future. Nighttime crankies while teething, nightmares and fear of thunderstorms are all great reasons to have the sound machine. My son is 8 and still prefers to fall asleep to his sound machine :)
I agree, I've never heard of trying a baby as young as Rupert in a bouncer, most of the kids I've known start trying them at 4/6 months and really take to them.
Yeah my kids liked their bouncer until well after they could crawl for restful bouncing and self soothing especially like when I was in the shower. They would just get in it and bounce it was basically like a very mobile lazy boy for babies.
Yes! I’d highly recommend holding on to stuff that he doesn’t like because you really never know what future babies might enjoy. My two were so different even as newborns and I found myself using things that had been so useless before. I personally wouldn’t get rid of anything unless you’re done having babies ❤️
We also love the multi-layer muslin cloths! As our daughter has grown, and she has become more interested in her surroundings, we get more use out of longer muslin “rectangles” because she quickly turns her head left/right and it’s very hard to anticipate the direction of the spit up.
I love the creative shot of Rupert. I appreciate what you are trying to do - both for personal reasons and artistically - and babies are not known to make photos of them easy to take. Take maybe, but to get the shot one wants can be a lot of work!
Don't worry about leaving your child in a diaper. Cloth or disposable, they are designed to keep your child dry. You don't need to change them as often as you think. Especially, like Claudia said, if your child is super sleepy and hasn't really peed too much or there is no poop, you can leave the diaper for a bit longer. Listen, my nephew learned to pull himself up and stand today. When babies do things it's pretty exciting. 😂
Unfortunely, some babies just get irritate with the plastic thing ingredient. Their legs are moving around and the plastic thing on their legs near the crotch hurt them. Thus, they cry. Then, just change into even better product.
When I had my oldest (1989 - US) good muslin squares were impossible to find, I made due with a cloth diaper...saved so many of my outfits from spit-up. I just adore his chattering away in the background, he sounds so jolly.
Rupert is like those mysterious secret agents in the movies where you never see their face and it's always hidden with some creative object/angle 😂 (I'm pretty sure this was a real movie right?)
I’m so excited for this video! My sister-in-law just had a baby this morning, my best friend is due in November, and I am pregnant with my first (due in February 2022) after losing our baby in April this year. To say babies are the main thing on my mind would be an understatement. Haha 😂 👼🏻🤰🏻🤱🏻
The bucket bath is more useful after they start crawling. My friends just put it in the tub and took their shower while sitting with the baby taking theirs. Once he really gets moving confine him in the bucket is more helpful at bath time.
Yes! I felt the Shnuggle was so awkward to use at the newborn stage but now at around 4 months it's getting easier since they can hold their head a little better. My toddler also loves it for some reason
I absolutely loved the idea of filming while he is awake and in the room. The baby noises played really well with the conversation, it almost felt like he was giving his opinion too.
I really appreciate the privacy you keep about Rupert's face, not just for yourselves but also for him! I'm very sure he's going to appreciate it even more as he grows
Pro tip: When he sits up on his own put him in a square plastic or otherwise water safe laundry basket and place that in the tub. Like the weird American dollar store ones that have holes in them. Will protect his head if he leans over to hard and slips, and will keep all his toys within reach, and the water taps out of reach.
My hilarious parents nailed legs to a drawer and put an extra firm pillow in it 🤣 not the safest or classiest bed for a baby but definitely functional. Ah, the 90s were a strange time. I was very excited by the bamaboo nappies! I was always going to use cloth but also having an ecosafe disposable will be so good. I have a few disabilities so I'd like to have the option depending on how I am and whether we're going out. We have bamboo baby wipes here in Australia so I've been using those for a little while for myself (ulcerative colitis is rough on the bum, not gonna lie). More bamboo disposables please!
Back during the Great Depression in the US, there were families that had no choice but to have children sleep in drawers until they were too big to fit in them anymore.
FWIW, when I and my two brothers were babies/toddlers, my mom would lean mattresses and pillows on the walls of our playroom, then nap on the floor outside the door so we'd he safe while she got some rest. Creativity really is the most important parenting skill. 😂
@@jwb52z9 and my Mama would put a "pallet" on the floor for us to nap on or lay down. It was several cloth blankets/quilts for cushion. I'm a boomer, so that was in the 50's.
I'm in Aus too and I found a website called Hello Charlie that has a variety of bamboo nappies and eco friendly wipes! I think we'll still do the newborn stage in something like Huggies just because we can run out and get them from the shops (plus they apparently have a different cut to help heal the belly button area) but after the newborn period I'm really excited about doing a combination of cloth + bamboo disposables or even just bamboo disposables for the environment. Still, I'm due in November which is a long way away, plenty of time to research more options :) We're keeping an eye out for a used cot but will buy a new mattress and have bought books from the Salvos instead of new which feels good to do!
Jessica, can I just emphasise how valuable videos like this are for disabled parents/soon-to-be parents/people just considering if parenthood is doable with our disabilities!! So many scenarios we have to consider, more so than non-disabled parents because not only are we considering all the needs of the baby, but also our own limitations/difficulties. Your product explanations and recommendations make parenthood sound a lot more doable and less daunting. The Topponcino and 360 swivel car seat, I didn’t know existed and will help my back and mobility issues so much! I’m so very grateful for the work you do. I really do hope more companies reach out to you about the possibility of sponsorships and testing accessible baby/parenting products that you might be able to share with us. It’s incredibly valuable information for so many of us! And to you and Claudia, you both look so happy and absolutely smitten with Rupert. And thank you for sharing such a huge part of your lives with us.
Thanks for doing your best to pick sustainable options for little Rupert. I don't ever expect parents to ever try the sustainable options because having a baby is already so much. Also, little Rupert is so cute. Can't see his face. I don't care. He's still cute.
I soo wish they had that sort of car seat when my kids were babies!!! I have three kids, and each one was very unique in what made them happy. My son much prefered his little swing, one of my girls loved the bouncy thing, and my other daughter liked both. There are other differences as well, and each one was a treasure! Now my babies are 23, 20, and 17 years old... on the plus side, I'm only 43 so we get to enjoy life together!
My son is the same age as Rupert. It's interesting to see how different they are in what works and doesn't. My go to product has been the boppy lounger pillow. He has reflux so I try to keep him elevated throughout the day.
My number 1 baby item that's always on "you don't need it" lists but I absolutely adore is the wipe warmer. I think the problem is people get the warmer for their baby who doesn't really care. I got that ish for me and I love it
As someone who has worked for a baby wipe making company, do be aware there is a higher chance of bacteria/microbe formation with a wipe warmer. If you're going through a pack within a couple days etc, you're probably good just cause there isn't enough time, but if you're keeping a pack in there for longer do consider smaller packs or only throwing in a couple wipes as necessary. Microbes love warm moist places, and because baby wipes do not have alcohol in them, a baby wipe warmer is a huge growth place. Companies can't design wipes to be fully microbe safe in a baby wipe warmer without adding ingredients that are less ideal/removing beneficial ingredients because things that help skin care can also help microbe growth.
When I was looking for gifts for my friend who had a baby I asked my mum whether she would have liked a wipe warmer when she had me, and she just said putting a pack of wipes on the radiator is exactly the same thing lol
I still have the basket my grandparents used for my father when he was born. (Like a wicker laundry basket) and a picture of him in it as a baby. 72 years later the basket still looks new
hello! i’m currently in an inpatient unit and your videos are getting me through. thank you so much! (most of the people here are gay, interestingly enough) i’m only 13 so it’s really hard but i’ll pull through with your help! good luck with the baby
Hey man, I was a queer teen in an inpatient unit about 2 years ago. I learned a lot there. I learned about loneliness, apathy, depression. And value. Being separated from everything that I thought made me who I was, it helped me learn who I actually wanted to be, and gave me enough perspective to believe it could happen. I'm sure we have very different stories, but I just wanna say I know you can create a life that makes you want to live
Couldn’t agree more with the 360. When you have back problems it’s well worth the extra. Re bouncer. We never used it with my first but used it constantly with my second. If you’ve got space I would save it if you want a second ☺️
Thank you for putting what you did in about the bouncer. Since we know they plan to have other children, I wrote the same thing but far, far after you did where they probably won't see it. That's such a nice bouncer that I'd hate for them not having it when it still might be useful next time.
The Baby Bjorn bouncer folds flat. Very easy to store. Definitely hold on to it for next kiddo. I got a bouncing baby. We had a bouncy seat at any location we traveled to regularly.
Best baby bath was the kitchen sink!😂 right up until my 2 were toddlers they loved splashing in the sink. It was great when i was cleaning the kitchen, strip them off & chuck them in the sink with some bubbles, kept them entertained for ages lol
@@OddlyElly i found it helped with my back pain too since i wasn't having to bend over. As for those big farmhouse sinks, i just want 1, they're gorgeous!
Did this with our son, the first few years. Really picked it up once he started baby food. So immediately after lunch time (the orange baby foods) covered from head to toe, dunk him in the sink for ducky time.
10:20ish - I had that same issue with my younger two. What I wasn't told in advance (& you guys maybe not too), was that some babies' legs & hips area, just doesn't do well with the terry nappies. Not familiar with your Bamboo ones, but they look good. I ended up on the home-compostable (in a special wormery which is a once off cost, but for big gardeners: 6wks nappy to compost is epic!) from Moltex Oko. They were fab. Sent so many coupons for free ones too. That definitely helped. On the moses basket front (6lb lift limit & spinal damage, plus sensation issues similar to Jessica's), when mine outgrew the moses basket, during the worst phases when lifting to cot would just not have been safe, with a solid based pram, I just had their pram top, with the cosy off, and built a bed in there. Cot rules apply of course as far as safety, and you'll get looks/remarks, but by that point, I'd got to the 'I'm a disabled parent. Get out the bloody way & get a baby of your own if you want to parent one' - but then, I'm nowhere near as nice as you ladies are.
In the states, usually, the next step up from the Moses basket is a play yard/ pack and play/ porta-crib. It's like a mobile traditional crib. Although, with the whole floor bed thing, you might just use a nap mat. Of course, as babies get older, they spend more of their time awake, so parents also use baby jumpers (they're called a lot of different things in the US, IDK what they're called in the UK) where their baby can bounce and play with little attached toys, and baby seats either with attached toys or an attached tray with whatever baby toys on it. This is typically for babies who can sit with support, but aren't able to have floor time without a parent's undivided attention.
See, I had trouble finding a moses basket (Ohioan here). I looked online, but everything said I couldn't get it shipped to me, and I couldn't find them in stores.
@@emullinsstreams There are some that you can find through Google in the US, but they're stupidly expensive unless you're wealthy. Walmart has 1 for $59.99, but to me, that's just too much for an item for a baby unless you plan to have several children or you're part of a large family where multiple babies can use it over time.
@@emullinsstreams I work with kids of all ages and when I needed one for my home I was shocked at how much they are in the us but then I got lucky and found one second hand and now just recommend that to all new parents who are not overly wealthy.
If you are making the topponchino (sorry about the spelling) his cue to sleep, you might need to get at least one more so you have a spare for when the first one has just been soiled and he won’t sleep without it.
So true about how you need the baby to see what works! My son HATED his swing. My daughter slept exclusively in the swing until she was 3 months old! We even bought a second swing so we could keep one in the bedroom where I slept with her and one in the living room for during the day.
If you decide to have more children it would be interesting to hear what worked differently for each child. For my kids I used the bouncy chair for my oldest until he was almost a year. But my youngest hated it.
Interesting and fun. Also Claud looks like she's finally getting some rest, which is excellent. Love Jessica in that shade of blue. Tillie was adorable and has Walter changed his mind about Rupert? Will there be any more Montessori mobiles in his future. Can't wait for Christmas and how he reacts to the tree.
The only time I found the bouncer useful for my kids was when I needed a shower and needed to have them in the bathroom with me on days I was alone. I had to shower quickly though because they didn't put up with it for long, even with the mobile attached to it. The most useful thing for our family was the nursing pillow. (The "C" shaped kind.) Was so great for propping them up when they were a bit older ready to look around. Tried the reusable nappies too. Hated them. Wish they had the bamboo ones back then. My kids have all had super sensitive skin. The midwife even suggested olive oil for their bums because the rash cream was too harsh and caused more problems but putting nothing created rashes. Ah, the joys of motherhood (mine are 12, 9 and 7 now).
Ah yes - my first has super sensitive skin. We tried several different diaper rash creams and the ONLY one th worked (and works amazingly btw) is Triple Paste brand. It is more expensive but worth it. Even as they are older it is nice to have around for random rashes.
I do think poor quality white noise machines can be more grating than soothing. My solution is to get a rickety old fan and turn that on. It's nice and loud and does the trick perfectly!
I still sleep with a fan always have as a kid I had have it blowing on my face and one leg above the covers, the one time in my life I didn’t have a floor fan (not a ceiling fan that isn’t the same) I had horrible insomnia for years until I was gifted a tower fan and suddenly my sleep schedule got so much better. And when I’m having a really hard time I listen to rain in a forest on TH-cam it took me forever to find the right sound I want wind through the trees but it always had annoying birds or thunder out of nowhere. Apparently my parents would sit by the open door when it rained and I would instantly fall asleep. If it was raining you could count on me ether being asleep or outside
We just played music, soft, soft, music in the bedroom to keep it from being totally silent. I hate white noise, I have sensory issues and it's exactly what it says-noise. Music at least has a purpose. One other suggestion for the bouncer is, if youre considering having more kids and have space to store things, consider saving it because subsequent babies may like it where this one didnt. If they dont, no biggie, gift it then, if they do, bam, you had something useful from the start. I'd toss the tub, though. That thing would have driven me bonkers for all the reasons you listed.
For the sake of the discussion, here are my agreements and disagreements re Useful Or Not Useful Baby Things (tm): The Moses basket - I personally could never be bothered to buy a specific bed for when mine was tiny; I just got a regular crib - which I didn't use for the first five months, because it turned out baby slept best in the bassinet that goes on the pram, and since that part could be detached AND even had a decent handle, I used it much like you describe using the Moses basket until baby decided they were sick of it (which was at four months of age or some such). The muslin squares: Oh dang, I wish I'd come across those multi-layer ones before. I would probably have loved them too. I had some of those flannel wipes which I used instead and they worked okay, but they were only proper good for wiping little bums. The swivelling car seat: I wish I'd found this, too. Messed up my back completely for a little while when baby was a couple of months old, and the regular non-swivelly car seat did NOT do wonders for that. It was just as well I don't tend to drive much. The bouncer: Funnily enough, my smol loved theirs and I used it a LOT until they figured out how to sit on their own; they quickly learned how to bounce themselves and everything (which was adorable). (My mum tells me I sat in one of them so much when I was an infant that I never figured out how to crawl, but I figured out how to sit and ended up scooching around on my backside instead. Maybe it's hereditary. :p ) Full agree on the bucket bath! I might have liked it more if I had bought/got one with a stand, so that I could have a reasonable working position myself. As it was I might have been better off bathing them in the sink for the first couple of weeks, actually. Which, sadly, didn't occur to me, so I ended up like crouching over them in the big bathtub WHILE holding them up with my own arm. Might have been why I did my back in, actually. :p The white noise machine: I tried the cheapo version (TH-cam on my phone :p ) and it made absolutely no useful difference, other than annoying me, so I think I can relate in some way.
For any US moms - I saw the cutest little muslin squares, the smaller ones, like they like here, at the dollar tree the other day! Like they were seriously, so adorable and super thick. Thought I would throw that out there for anyone who may find it helpful. I have never seen them there before last week. xo
Thanks to J & C I now have an appreciation of muslin. Only ever remember it has scratchy, thin and useless. Now I know they are awesome ! Nice of you to share on where to find some here.
My daughter is 6 months old and we just started using our babybjörn because she is so mobile now and we use it when we sit down to eat so we dont have to run around while eating ^-^
I promise you will continue to be shocked and proud of every little thing he does! Watching babies learn is very cool and you'll notice so many clever things, especially with a baby who has such attentive and engaging caregivers
Our kids hated the white noise machine, so I switched them to thunder storm/rain sounds at about 4 weeks. They're 4, almost 5, now and sleep straight through any storms we have without waking up. It might be a handy, more natural alternative to the white noise.
my mother used to swear by double-weave birdseye squares, to the point where when they were no longer sold she'd buy the birdseye and make them herself. With cloth diapers, my favorite systems were the ones where you put the inserts inside a double-layer shell that stays dry inside, but eventually my kid's fussy skin reacted to everything but disposables. I never pre-soaked wipes, I just kept a peri bottle full of plain water and used water and flannel squares to clean up the baby. That said, some of the thicker disposable wipes will hold up to being washed and reused, which is something you discover by accident when you're cloth diapering.
Claudia is shining! Those baby hormones look great on her🥰. I just need to say I appreciate so much you girls keeping baby Roo's privacy, it's such a thoughtful parenting decision... That being said I am far away from having a baby but I'm enjoying so much your baby content and I don't even know why lol
i’m sure i’ve said this, but i’m bi and i have dermatosparaxis (supes rare form of EDS that’s like a grab bag of the bad symptoms-swelling, fatigue,pain-no party tricks, and easy bruising/tearing/infections) and a spine that’s half metal rods, thanks late onset scoliosis, and you guys give me so much hope that maybe i don’t have to write off “partner and baby” even though i’m 32.
and relatedly, at one point you hear Rupert playing with his toys, and at first I asked my dogs what they were doing, because they were just lying on my bed with me, and they shouldn’t have anything to make a noise then I rewound and realized that was Rupert.
I can imagine having a hand held shower head is helpful with a new born. I found it incredibly helpful after top surgery and will likely find it helpful after spine surgery thats in my future.
Try the cloth diapers when you transition to toilet training. The soggy, wet diaper feeling helps them want to use the toilet instead of being wet.I found that my son did not care if he toddled around in the wet disposeable diaper all day because it didn't make him uncomfortable, but as soon as we put him in cloth ones he chose to tell me when he was wet, and then when he needed to toilet because he didn't like the wet diaper.
I COMPLETELY agree with all the "must haves" on this list, and the "Do not bother", especially with the bouncer and the white noise machine. I've learned that humming a tune to them while your rocking them to sleep, or feeding them to sleep works best.
My best friend is pregnant after years of trying, she'll soon give birth. (Actually she discovered her pregnancy a few days only after you announced yours.) I'm watching all of your videos to get tips on how to take care of a baby and to have ideas to help her out, and I'm sending all of your vids to her so she can get ideas to get ready for the baby. Thank you so so so much!
Dunno about a white noise machine for a baby but as an adult I sure love mine! I’m onto my third and will have to think about another one. I have mine set for thunderstorms.
Awww this was lovely. My second is about 2 weeks older than Rupert, and every child is different. I've constantly been surprised how different my second is from my first. For instance, we never used white noise with my first, but have been using it all the time with my second (it helps to drown out the noise from my second playing during nap times 🤣). Wishing you both the very best - it's been fun watching these lovely videos about your experiences as new Mums.
I bought a pack of muslin cloths from Mothercare when I was pregnant for the first time 25 years ago. These cloths were much thinner than yours, but I used them for everything. The best thing was that I could wash them at 95C, so they were always disinfected after being washed. I was still using them as house cleaning cloths years after my third child was no longer a toddler.
those car seats are incredible! they use the same technology for older children as well which makes my life as a short person with a 18 kg 4 year old much easier. he can climb in and out of the car himself, it is very stable and secure. love it!
TOTALLY agree with you on the muslin cloths! 😍 They're the best! If your doing montessori, I'm also not surprised the bouncer and the white noise machine don't work for you guys, if your into free movement and natural sensory awareness, both those items override the natural nervous system.. and its better to use natural rest/rolling/play, and maybe soothing whale music or forest sounds as a background, at least birdsong or watery sounds are identifiable and much more soothing for us! 😁 You guys are doing so great! Sharing tips is awesome, that car seat looks a dream, thank you!
Those muslin squares will be useful for years to come. Note: we use the white noise machine to cover noises in our house so my toddler won't wake up the baby while he is playing. Lovely video.
13:30 seeing claud smile just looking at rupert is absolutely precious 😢 i feel like jess from new girl, when she's watching coach watching winston yawn while he naps 👀
You know, I might only want to be the cool aunt but I am still taking notes because I have chronic illnesses/pain. That swivel car seat is totally going to be on my wish list for driving all my future niblings around ☺️🥺
know how much everyone loves unsolicited parenting advice, but essential oils aren't recommended under 3 months. but of course, you fab moms figured it out on your own.
As a retired nanny now Mama, if you haven't needed the bouncer by now, you won't ever use it. Some babies HATE being flat on their back, so for them the bouncer is a gift from God. Others don't mind being on their back and find the bouncer boring. My son slept solely in his bouncer for the first 3 months, my daughter hardly used hers. Every baby is different, even when raised the same.
I love Claudia's impression of Rupert being miffed by the white noise machine, there is nothing neutral or relaxing about that sound, you are definitely better with a wave machine if something is needed Xxx I sleep with waves and bell tree sounds because we have very noisy birds from 3am and a deranged owl from 12-3am.
I don't have a baby, don't plan to have any babies, yet I am going to watch this whole video. You guys are so sweet it's just nice to catch up with you!
I love everything about you lovely people☺️ I always leave this channel happier and more informed. But what I love the absolute most is how naturally you’re saying “for our family,” “we decided as a family,” “this does/doesn’t work for our family.” It’s such a succint way to be inclusive of not only gender roles, but the idea that you are now a unit, and not one person (or child) is more important than another💕
*Captions are being made*
They will be ready in a few hours, thank you for your patience!
Thank you so much for letting us know!
thank you Jessica! ❤️
you are not in trouble, you're a Mum now and it's an excuse you can rightfully use !!
What length is this Moses basket and if you have a link can you post it?

Keep a pair of his first size baby socks to hang on your chritmas tree. When he is older you can put a small treat in them. I did this with my boys. It was fun showing them each year how small their feet were as babies.
This is such a good idea!
What a wonderful idea. 👩🏻🦲
My brother does this with his kids! This is such a cute idea.
That's so gorgeous!!

Me: yes it is. Tell us more!!

Never too early to prepare ☺️

I'm in high school and here I am listening to it😂
I don’t plan on having any kids ever, but I’m still listening too! Advice is always helpful even if you don’t use it.
I didn't start until I was pregnant and even with nieces and nephews I felt behind. Products change so much in such a short time!
I don't plan having kids ever, but still get very exited every time they upload a baby related video
Yay! Currently expecting my first and have decided on using cloth. This is really good to learn.
also a former nanny and have one caveat, as someone who also has limited hand function and dexterity to about the same level of Jessica, snappies are not suitable for everyone and sometimes the velcro is the better option for the sake of your own health
Also, older babies can get that Velcro right off and the snaps are a bit harder 🤣
I'm the oldest of five children and you've brought back all the memories of my pants (underwear) getting all ratty because they'd been washed in the same load as my youngest siblings bibs. the velcro just ate everything eventually.
My son is 6 weeks old and doesnt like being set down and demands all the cuddles (which I love) so my wrap carrier has been a god send
My youngest cat has that in common with a lot of babies, maybe I should get something to carry him easier too because he is definitely heavier than your average newborn at 6kg.
@@DieAlteistwiederda you can get a cat carrying sweater
My son is now 25. I kept a fabric sling in the house and both cars! We called him the Leech because he was constantly nursing. But they’re fantastic since you can put baby on the ground in it and undo it to make a floor mat!
@@katwitanruna I had a sling carrier with my daughter and it definitely wasnt for me. I really like my wrap one better.
💜
I've found that the cloth diapers help with toilet training when they're older. Many of the new diapers keep the kids so dry they can't feel when they pee to learn the signs of when to go. A big wet diaper really lets you know and is so annoying that you are motivated as a kid to get out of them! Loved your list so much!!!
Good point!
I never plan to have children, but I live vicariously through Jessica & Claudia - Rupert makes such cute noises! 🍼
Yep
Disabled or not, that car seat (or at least that style) looks like an absolute necessity for any parent truthfully. Safety in motion!
I am not a parent, nor will I be a parent for atleast 5-10 years . But I want EVERYTHING, baby stuff is just so cute
I love that you kept in that intro. Don't always edit out the crying baby . It's truthful and so very relatable 💕
Congratulations to your sil. And your friend. And happy rainbow baby to you 🌈❤
Best wishes with the rest of your journey 💛
What an exciting time for you and your family and friends! I wish you a happy and easy pregnancy :)
Congratulations!
@@laurenk4161 I am sorry for your loss but “Yay!” to our February rainbow babies! 🥰🌈
Claud is absolutely GORGEOUS, she’s been glowing since giving birth!!!!
The “oooh” from Rupert nearly killed me with cuteness.
I know! I love his little coos and soft noises.
I don't have kids but found out about wiper warmers at a friend's baby shower a few years ago. Game changer in the winter.
@@haenahkim thats good info! I typically only use it in the first mpnths when im going thru a pack in like 2-3 day! But im glad you mentioned that!
When I was looking for gifts for my friend who had a baby I asked my mum whether she would have liked a wipe warmer when she had me, and she just said putting a pack of wipes on the radiator is exactly the same thing lol
I use reusable wipes and I just wet them with warm water from the tap.
I still have the basket my grandparents used for my father when he was born. (Like a wicker laundry basket) and a picture of him in it as a baby. 72 years later the basket still looks new
if it's wicker, that stuff is strong ! And just clean with water.
hello! i’m currently in an inpatient unit and your videos are getting me through. thank you so much!
Get well ❤️
Hang in there Florence, sending you LOTS of love ❤
Heck out TH-cam chateau diaries really fun and lots of back films to catch up on.
Wishing you well
literally crying in my shitty bedroom! i love this community, thank you for the support xx
Couldn’t agree more with the 360. When you have back problems it’s well worth the extra. Re bouncer. We never used it with my first but used it constantly with my second. If you’ve got space I would save it if you want a second ☺️
some elderly people use a swivel seat bottom to make it easier to move and get out of low car seats.
My mom has Parkinson's. Very interested in the Toppocino for whenever I have a little one. Thanks for the recommendation!
Best baby bath was the kitchen sink!😂 right up until my 2 were toddlers they loved splashing in the sink. It was great when i was cleaning the kitchen, strip them off & chuck them in the sink with some bubbles, kept them entertained for ages lol
Exactly why I want one of those big farmhouse sinks 😊 always had my baths in the sink. Wash cloth on the bottom and baby is happy as can be
@@OddlyElly i found it helped with my back pain too since i wasn't having to bend over.
As for those big farmhouse sinks, i just want 1, they're gorgeous!
My mom swore by the kitchen sink. She said it was the best bath for us all.
@@emullinsstreams Even on Amazon?
@@emullinsstreams There are some that you can find through Google in the US, but they're stupidly expensive unless you're wealthy. Walmart has 1 for $59.99, but to me, that's just too much for an item for a baby unless you plan to have several children or you're part of a large family where multiple babies can use it over time.
@@emullinsstreams I work with kids of all ages and when I needed one for my home I was shocked at how much they are in the us but then I got lucky and found one second hand and now just recommend that to all new parents who are not overly wealthy.
@@emullinsstreams next time try Amazon Canada, they often stock things that are more common in the UK, and are more likely to ship to the US
If you are making the topponchino (sorry about the spelling) his cue to sleep, you might need to get at least one more so you have a spare for when the first one has just been soiled and he won’t sleep without it.
So true about how you need the baby to see what works!
My son HATED his swing. My daughter slept exclusively in the swing until she was 3 months old! We even bought a second swing so we could keep one in the bedroom where I slept with her and one in the living room for during the day.
Rupert is so lucky to have such great moms! Taking notes for my future adoptee👀
The “cheese in the cutlery drawer” slayed me 🤣
If you decide to have more children it would be interesting to hear what worked differently for each child.
For my kids I used the bouncy chair for my oldest until he was almost a year. But my youngest hated it.
I hated swaddling and got very upset the few times my Mom tried it. My younger brother loved being swaddled.
OMG, the C-shaped nursing pillow! I used that thing ALL DAY LONG for everything!
Honestly the best white noise machine is one that plays rain ngl
hey, just wanted to say Claudia's hair looks amazing,
We just played music, soft, soft, music in the bedroom to keep it from being totally silent.
Currently 38 weeks pregnant and taking notes!
I'm not here because I might have a baby, I'm just so happy for you both çç
For the sake of the discussion, here are my agreements and disagreements re Useful Or Not Useful Baby Things (tm):
The Moses basket - I personally could never be bothered to buy a specific bed for when mine was tiny; I just got a regular crib - which I didn't use for the first five months, because it turned out baby slept best in the bassinet that goes on the pram, and since that part could be detached AND even had a decent handle, I used it much like you describe using the Moses basket until baby decided they were sick of it (which was at four months of age or some such).
Full agree on the bucket bath! :p
The white noise machine: I tried the cheapo version (TH-cam on my phone :p ) and it made absolutely no useful difference, other than annoying me, so I think I can relate in some way.
Motherhood really suits you both! Y'all are glowing!
You're not a**holes just deeply invloved mothers. And you are both doing great. 💜💜💜
These videos are always the best way to make me feel better, it’s just so cute and it’s just so fun to watch y’all’s dynamic
Jess and Claud are couple goals. Rupert is very lucky to have you as his mommies
My daughter is 6 months old and we just started using our babybjörn because she is so mobile now and we use it when we sit down to eat so we dont have to run around while eating ^-^
what is it?
I promise you will continue to be shocked and proud of every little thing he does! Watching babies learn is very cool and you'll notice so many clever things, especially with a baby who has such attentive and engaging caregivers
Muslin cloths are absolutely amazing! We grew up with them as kids and I still use mine regularly - from burping cloth to handkerchief 😂
Rupert had some good points there!
Our kids hated the white noise machine, so I switched them to thunder storm/rain sounds at about 4 weeks. They're 4, almost 5, now and sleep straight through any storms we have without waking up. It might be a handy, more natural alternative to the white noise.
As an adult, I hate the white noise, but can't sleep if I don't put on storm/rain sounds
Their excitement at the muslin cloths was so contagious, I can't stop smiling
Me: I don’t like children, I never want kids
Also me whenever Rupert makes a sound: 🥺🥺🥺❣️
Maybe you can babysit and be everyone's favorite auntie!!
Same here :3 He's sounds really cute
Same ! I love kids! But then I love giving them back to their parents hahaha
Apparently using cloth diaper inserts as burp cloths also works really well because they're very absorbent and can be cheaper
I'm so impressed by Claudia for being able to use a breast pump regularly. I couldn't tolerate it. Well done 👏💛
Same! Not even the hospital grade got more than ten to twenty mls.
I love the ways you’ve found to still “show” Rupert to us, but keep his identity/face safe from view - they’re always so creative!!
my mother used to swear by double-weave birdseye squares, to the point where when they were no longer sold she'd buy the birdseye and make them herself.
That being said I am far away from having a baby but I'm enjoying so much your baby content and I don't even know why lol
i’m sure i’ve said this, but i’m bi and i have dermatosparaxis (supes rare form of EDS that’s like a grab bag of the bad symptoms-swelling, fatigue,pain-no party tricks, and easy bruising/tearing/infections) and a spine that’s half metal rods, thanks late onset scoliosis, and you guys give me so much hope that maybe i don’t have to write off “partner and baby” even though i’m 32.
and relatedly, at one point you hear Rupert playing with his toys, and at
first I asked my dogs what they were doing, because they were just lying on my bed with me, and they shouldn’t have anything to make a noise then I rewound and realized that was Rupert.
I can imagine having a hand held shower head is helpful with a new born. I found it incredibly helpful after top surgery and will likely find it helpful after spine surgery thats in my future.
Even if you don’t have sensitive skin essential oils can cause contact dermatitis. They’re plant defenses that humans happen to like the smell of.
I don’t have children, but muslin squares are amazing. I use them for cleaning, washing my face, hankies. They are brilliant and not expensive.
So many advancements since my long ago parenting days. I love watching you two being distracted by Rupert.
Instead of a "topponcino" I just had a small blanket. It was especially good for moving a sleeping baby to another place. Doesn't wake up (as easily).
i don't plan on having kids for another 10 or so years but i'm loving and pocketing every little tip 😌
I don’t have kids, not expecting or know anyone expecting. I’m here because I love watching you on camera together. You both have a new mom glow 😁
Jessica you’re going to have to do a whole video on all of your Montessori things 🤣
those car seats are incredible! they use the same technology for older children as well which makes my life as a short person with a 18 kg 4 year old much easier. he can climb in and out of the car himself, it is very stable and secure.
You guys are doing so great! Sharing tips is awesome, that car seat looks a dream, thank you!
Those muslin squares will be useful for years to come.
Note: we use the white noise machine to cover noises in our house so my toddler won't wake up the baby while he is playing.
Lovely video.
You are such a fun married couple.
Rupert's bum was happy to impart that wisdom on them 😂
Also, disabled parenting tips is a much thank you
I always get so distracted by how gorgeous your house plants look, the oxalis and begonia look like they're just thriving!
I have no plan to ever have kids and I know no-one who does... still watching all of this because Jessie and Claud are the best parents
Indeed. I have two boys - one yes on the bouncer (including sleeps). One very profound NO!
This. My son hated the bouncer but loved the rocker chair.
Roo’s sweet little noises in the background!
I can't tell you how grateful I am that you obscure his face!! Please continue to respect his privacy online ☺
