I groaned at the mention of Jim McBride's 'Breathless', but then when he mentioned that had more to say on the silver surfer than 'FF2', it was a horrifying moment of realising, he's right.
The film had many, many problems, but the one that bothered me more than anything else is the staggering laziness the filmmakers displayed in their representation of Galactus. Look up Galactus; look up what he supposed to look like. Do a little research about how Galactus is supposed to appear when looked at by humans. Is it a big cloud? Is it? NO, it is not! You know, it's more than just laziness; it's fear. Fear that the audience, for whom Hollywood has (utter) contempt for, won't understand what Galactus is, won't get it, won't be able to take in this new character making his appearance at the very end of the movie without 10-15 minutes of tedious explanation of his morning ablutions and romantic attachments and philosophical motivations, none of which we have the time for. So, how do we represent this all-consuming threat? "I got it, Chief! A big cloud! It's cheap, it's vaguely threatening, the grown-ups won't care anyway, it's just what we're looking for!" "Good work, son."
Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer is crap. I love the history of The Silver Surfer and in Fantastic Four its made so... Banal. The Silver Surfer is one of the most tragic figures in comic history and this didn't come accross in this movie at all.
I saw the Silver Surfer first and enjoyed it and when I saw the first one I was expecting it to be bad, but I enjoyed that to they're both nice family films. Although I don't get why they would do the Silver Surfer when they knew they couldn't expand it because there was going to be its own film. Though I think FF4 as a tv series might ahve worked better.
28 Weeks Later anti-American? That makes no sense whatsoever. Anyway, the director and co-writer has outright said in interviews that it wasn't intended to be political commentary.
The film’s intriguing, well acted & well characterised, however the film’s poorly directed, unfocused, poorly written & cheap. (35%) (2/5 stars) (mixed to negative)
"Laurence 'Don't Call Me Larry' Fishburne, obviously dialogue written by Oscar Wilde."
People noticing Mark's arms as long ago as 2007. Fantastic.
i would love to see a slow paced existential sci silver surfer film in the vain of solaris sunshine 2001. coule be really brilliant
I'd watch the shit Out of that!
@@lamecasuelas2 i'm still thinking about this 5 years later lol. imagine a Silver Surfer directed by denis villeneuve

Kermode understands the Power Cosmic...?
Kermode misses out another important reason to appreciate "Breathless": Valerie Kapriski.
I love this guys reviews. But what I'm really interested in, are the movies he likes the best.
Kermode's top 10s are much more pithy here than they are nowadays
Its only Simon Mayo, one of the most famous broadcasters in the country (duh)
Josh Trank (chronicle) is doing the FF reboot! Hurrah! really looking forward to that a great deal
TheHappydead how did that go for you?
This comment has not aged well.
TheHappydead I bet you feel very disappointed and very angry after watching it in 2015.
Epic review.
Silver Surfer is the puppet of Galactus whom wasn't even featured in the movie
OHH, they "featured" him alright; only they portrayed him as a big, scary cloud! Booo-oooo! Lazy Hollywood hacks.
@@lanceash Galactus looked like the smoke trail left by Death Eaters. Not like Galactus. At all.
@BigBoss7777777 I do agree with what he said about Ron Weasley saying "bloody hell' all the time in the latter Harry Potter, it was unnecessary.

In the HP books, there is just as much cursing as there is in the movies.
what is mark talking about? ron swears in the hp books often
Why do they not say "Fantastic" and just call it Four?

People who don't want their kids subjected to bad language? I would have thought that's pretty obvious.
It wasnt THAT bad. It was the weakest of the trilogy, but I rather liked it:/
The film’s intriguing, well acted & well characterised, however the film’s poorly directed, unfocused, poorly written & cheap. (35%) (2/5 stars) (mixed to negative)
The language in the Harry Potter books, is if anything worse than the language in the films.
I agree with Kermode on Spider man 3.
Rubbish
It WAS that bad. Horrible film.
