The idea that critics are just failed artists is rubbish. Some are but Kermode is somebody who knows film inside and out. Unlike many critics, he also serves as a historian, providing contemporary films with the context they require to judge them correctly. I don't always agree with him but I'm glad he is around promoting good standards for cinema.
I disagree with those who think this is better than Ocean’s Twelve. I actually liked Ocean’s Twelve. I HATED this film haha. The editing is all over the place and the characters are just there and nothing more.
I mostly just listen to these for Kermodes rants which can be quite funny. I actually don't always agree with him, but his rants are hilarious. almost cathartic.
I love the fact that Mark can be one of the most impartial critics in the world - he liked Twilight for example because it filled it's niche - but all his rationality and logical approach to a film goes out the window when confronted by the horror... of Julian Sands.
I'm sorry but Las Vegas is a waste of water that is drying up the Colorado river. Water that could be used for farming is going to a cess pool of greed and gluttony.
Daniel Day-Lewis was the best in that. Sands was okay but he doesn't really emote, he seemed so emotionless and Aloof, maybe that was just the character.
The bit where JR is impersonating JR is the WORST thing in the film. That's the part which illustrates just how smug and pretentious Ocean's12 had become.
No, I hate Las Vegas too - I live not that far from the Colorado River, even, and it's slowly being sucked dry by those idiots. Lots of my family live down there and I hate visiting them because I hate the state in general. What I meant was that so many people here, when they listen to this guy, they 'agree' with him instantly and practically kiss his feet when they mostly don't even know what they're talking about. No one seems to be able to say 'I disagree'. Sorry for not clearing that up.
I think, errrm, yes... I have to say, as much as I truly admire my hero Mr. Kermode, here he's being quite an arsehole. Still, it was 13 years ago. He has... Matured since 😁
James Ellroy (of the L.A Quartet book series fame) said that Zodiac was one of the best modern American crime movies ever. In the same interview (Empire Magazine) he claimed that Public Enemies was excruciatingly bad.
The film maybe unoriginal & unfocused, however the film’s well acted, well directed, well characterised & is an enjoyable entry into the series. (73%) (3.5/5 stars) (positive)
trying to find a review of 'Sweet November' really awful film but Jason Isaacs is in it and he plays a transvestite - I'd just like to know what Mark thinks of it seeing as his favourtie person is in it.
I hate torture porn. If you're the wrong person, it can really mess with your head. Bridge to Terabithia is very good. The first time I saw it, it shocked me, because I was expecting a totally different movie, but still thought it was good. The second time, I appreciated it much more.
I actually thought oceans 13 was fun. Although I agree that it’s slightly too long. Not as good as oceans 11 but way better than 12 and better than oceans 8.
Mr. Veteran Cabin Fever's pretty much the only movie directed by Eli Roth that's any good. The first Hostel is alright (when it gets to the horror part), but the rest is just dreck. Green Inferno and Knock Knock... jesus fuck!
The most important thing though is that he is completely unbiased. So many reviewers let their love/hate of an individual or ideas in a film cloud their judgement and their reviews. I think he even reviews Danny Dyer films rationally!
Also I mainly watch Marks review for their comedic value. In that sense he is a comedian and an entertainer and I see every review he does more like another episode of one of my favourite comedy shows than "just" a simple movie review.
My god. It makes sense but I didn't realise Mark has always been this bigoted and left-leaning politically. Hearing him talk about Las Vegas - as if he has ever been there LOL - reminds me that he's paid to have an opinion and boy does he have opinions...
mark fails to mention how much bloody fun the actors are having in the film. though it is basically a shot for shot remake of ocean's 11, it is nonetheless a fun time. it's utterly inconsequential and pointless, but it is a celebration of celebrity and glamor and the entire (excellent) cast is well aware of this. you have to look at soderbergh's career to accurately appraise the film. it's 2 hours of unbridled fun and nothing else, and he pulls it off remarkably.
The first Ocean's film is terrific entertainment. Both sequels nowhere near as good. Also, Las Vegas is a fantastic place to visit. Stop moaning, Kermode!
JULIAN SANDS HAS GOT WORK AGAIN!!!
"IT'S JULIAN SANDS!!!"
Best review of Mr Bean's Holiday ever.
"So here I am in Las Vegas with Julian Sands"
"Bless him"
8:20 What'll be said by the search team.
Did Julian Sands kill Mark's dog?
the spelling for 1:51 is "hobbelti goggelti hobbiti tosh"

"He was eaten by a spider".
I couldn't agree more about las vegas being an abomination.

What's Mark on about? Julian Sands has a really minor appearance in one scene. He's perfectly fine.
The Julian Sands bit is LOL funny!
I'm sorry but Las Vegas is a waste of water that is drying up the Colorado river. Water that could be used for farming is going to a cess pool of greed and gluttony.
4:18 this 20-second review of Pirates of the Caribbean is so funny 😂 howled
"All those famous people, looking famous" Nuff said Mark.
I thought Julian Sands was pretty good in A Room With a View...
Daniel Day-Lewis was the best in that. Sands was okay but he doesn't really emote, he seemed so emotionless and Aloof, maybe that was just the character.
Why does Kermode take the micky outta julian sands, he aint that bad an actor
8:20 what you came here for

Ocean's 12 is the best one!
Julian Sands...ah him, I saw him in a repeat of Arachnophobia the other day. Oh and that god-awful low-budget sc-fi movie, The Tomorrow Man lol
I think, errrm, yes... I have to say, as much as I truly admire my hero Mr. Kermode, here he's being quite an arsehole. Still, it was 13 years ago. He has... Matured since 😁
I like the way he talks very responsible about BTT. I've seen the film and liked it, but that change in tone caught me off guard.
he's got work again. lmfao
"Some bits in it that are not completely rubbish." Should have been on the posters.
He never did get around to seeing that Bollywood one. ;D
Why is he hating on Julian Sands ?

hes hilarious
Watch him 'act'.

I think you replied to the wrong person as I agree with everything you've said.
Why shouldn't Berkin fall for Damon? He's hardly a troll and she is clearly drugged.

3.47-3.49. Tell Brad Jones (AKA The Cinema Snob) that. :)
Mr. Veteran The who?
+Backyard Pix An Internet film reviewer who hates both Eli Roth & Cabin Fever. He named it one of the worst films of the noughties.
Mr. Veteran Cabin Fever's pretty much the only movie directed by Eli Roth that's any good. The first Hostel is alright (when it gets to the horror part), but the rest is just dreck. Green Inferno and Knock Knock... jesus fuck!
Backyard Pix I haven't seen his work, so I can't comment.

Lol how is it bigoted to acknowledge that Las Vegas sucks and is a horrible place 😂😂
He got Brad back, he got The Other Guy back...
Classic Kermode.
I agree with the review, but i preferred potc 3 to oceans 13.
Kermode unsurprisingly is wrong.
Ocean's 13 is the best of the 3 films
i never saw anything in any of the Oceans pictures
Spider-Man 3 is a good movie. There, I said it.
mark fails to mention how much bloody fun the actors are having in the film. though it is basically a shot for shot remake of ocean's 11, it is nonetheless a fun time. it's utterly inconsequential and pointless, but it is a celebration of celebrity and glamor and the entire (excellent) cast is well aware of this. you have to look at soderbergh's career to accurately appraise the film. it's 2 hours of unbridled fun and nothing else, and he pulls it off remarkably.
sill don't get this guy ,kermode raves about the films HE only likes he's an arty farty wannabee
Oceans 12 is worse IMO
The first Ocean's film is terrific entertainment. Both sequels nowhere near as good. Also, Las Vegas is a fantastic place to visit. Stop moaning, Kermode!
Kermode doesn't understand fun. Never has.
