BDSP Shaymin Glitch in 2023 - Future Proof

Here, I show off a new approach to obtaining Shaymin in BDSP, which will likely continue to work into the future. Essentially, it is possible to buy a physical copy of these games with software version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 installed, as opposed to the software version 1.0.0 present on all the launch-day copies. These specific versions contain glitches which you can use to get to flower paradise, where you can encounter Shaymin.

FAQ:
1) Does this glitch still work?
- Yes, as of February 2024, it still works.
2) Can I catch Darkrai with this glitch?
- No, even if you go out of bounds and make it to Darkrai's island, he is not there. This glitch only works for Shaymin.
3) My cartridge has the v1.0.0 software version, can I still do the glitch?
-No, there is no out of bounds glitch on version 1.0.0, you will need a different cartridge.
4) I have the digital version of the game, can I still do this?
-No, the digital version only allows you to download the latest software version, while this glitch requires an older version.
5) I'm looking to buy a cartridge to do this, should I buy brilliant diamond or shining pearl?
-If you have played BD or SP on your switch before, you will want to buy the other version of the game. This is because you cannot play the cartridge on a lower software version number after it has been saved on a higher software version number (see end of video).
6) I want to buy a cartridge to do this, but I can't find one that ends in 001 or 002. How do I find one?
- Just keep looking. The vast majority of physical cartridges for this game were "launch day" copies, so they have the wrong version. Comparatively, cartridges 001 and 002 are quite rare, but they do exist. Just keep looking!

if gamefreak didnt make them event exlusives then people wouldnt abuse glitches seriously why couldnt they be core parts of the remakes makes no sense
Factory resetting means to boot it up while holding down both volume buttons until it boots all the way through where you’d click any button to unlock it after boot. A new screen pops up to factory reset. Let go of volume buttons and just power it off. It’s called maintenance mode, it’s a white screen. It doesn’t delete any saves or anything.

This is very interesting. I was on 1.1.2 glitching master balls and every medical rare item to 999 until the last day of shaymin event when I needed to update to get the shaymin item.

You can only trade through the same version, so it wouldn't have worked
What if I got to the flower paradise in vers. 1.0.0, saved, and updated to 1.3.0. To get shaymin to spawn. Would this work?

From my research, this doesn't work, because you can't save out of bounds in version 1.0.0
I still have my game on 1.1.1 gotta rock multiple switches world.
This will continue to work so long as you can get the right cartridge and avoid updating (just did it on 1.1.1)

there is no glitch to get darkrai without the actual event or hacking. you can get to the island, but he isnt there

I've been working on getting shiny mythicals too! If you didn't get oaks letter back when this game had the mystery gift, this revision cart approach is probably your best bet. The only other option would be to get shiny shaymin through the paid research currently in pokemon go, but in my opinion the pogo mythicals aren't quite as cool as getting them in the main games

Luckily I found this video, I bought BD 000, but I never got around to running the game, after hours of searching I found another BD 002, so I will be able to have a shiny shaymin in 2024 legally.
In a couple of months, I'll update to report if it works, although the video is already pretty good and I trust it
Version match wouldn’t work anyway because it will update both to the one with the highest update. No matter who hosts. I already tried that with a different game

Update 1:
I’ve hit a major roadblock that might apply to other viewers. Get the OPPOSITE version of the game you already have if you attempt this.
I already had diamond digitally installed to 1.3.0 prior to purchasing my 1.1.1 cart. Even after deleting the software and save data, my console still remembers that I had 1.3.0, and will not let me run the cart until I update to the last known version (even when WiFi is disabled). There are only two work arounds for this as far as I am aware (please do your own research before trying either option!):
1. Do a hard factory reset of your switch, then play from cart directly. Initializing while keeping save data won’t work, I tried.
2. Play on another switch that hasn’t played on any version ahead of the cart’s.
I can’t do 1 bc I have saves that I don’t want to lose, and I don’t have Nintendo online to back them up. I’m leaning towards 2 whenever I get a new switch, but not any time soon.
If I find another work around, I’ll post here. Until then… I may look for a Pearl version, or stop the hunt for now😭

I heard that if you get to Newmoon Island before 1.3 Darkrai wouldn't be there, so what if you use this to get there then update your game while on Newmoon Island, would Darkrai spawn then, or is the Membership Card needed?
i believe the member card is needed to set the flag or else darkrai won’t spawn, but i have a revision cartridge coming in the mail right now, so if you don’t mind waiting a couple more weeks, i can test this out and let you know!

Great video, I've been searching for a 001 or 002 cart on ebay basically daily for the last 3 months with no luck, messaging every seller I can find.
Would be super cool if we as a community tried to help each other by paying the revision cartridges forward - would you ever consider selling yours so someone else can shiny hunt shaymin, before selling it to pay it forward again? Like the sisterhood of the traveling pants lol the brotherhood of the traveling cartridge.
hi!! i also just went through a pretty lengthy ebay/mercari cartridge stalk period but just now finally managed to win an auction for a batch 002 revision cartridge!! i won’t be receiving it for a couple of weeks yet (international shipping) and kind of want to hang onto the cartridge for a bit to do some experimenting/reset a couple times and catch some spare shaymins for friends, but if you still haven’t found a revision cart by the time i’m done with all that, would you want me to reach out to you and sell you mine?

If you have one of the versions of the game but it in 1.0.0 can you get the cartridges that are are 001 or 002 of the same version will the trick work?

No, you need to do it with shining pearl
If your brilliant diamond is on 1.1.3 and if you have a copy of 001 or 002 your gona have to factory reset your switch if you want to play it on version 1.1.1 or 1.1.2
Ive got a question, if you go there with 1.0.0 shaymin would not appear, but the place (flower paradise) it would? So... If i update 1.3.0 only when i get to flower paradise, it would work?

hey if anyones still interested in searching for a way i think ive found a few potential ways, still working on it as i just got the game but , if anyone has noticed when you name a pokemon " Egg" the game will sortof treat it like its an egg. im guessing theres a way to breed these fake eggs for a bad egg and eventually a way to get these mons. also the tweaking glitch doesnt seem to work but many diagonal looking areas dont make the thud sound meaning theres potential for clipping out of bounds in a few spots. anyways ill keep looking and trying stuff

The method described in this video still works, and will continue to work indefinitely since BDSP is no longer receiving updates. Hence the "Future Proof" in the video title

Depends on cartridge revision but yeah, although I'm not sure auto update being off would stop it, some updates get forced regardless at some point

Hi just subscribed to your channel I thought your video was really helpful I still have the event for shaymin but my version is 1.3.0, am I still able to get a shiny shaymin by soft resetting at the island? I'm able to start the event even if I restart the game. I don't want to update my game as I fear I may lose access to the Shaymin event, any feedback you may have on this I would really appreciate thanks

If you factory reset your switch you can play it on 1.1.2 just make sure to keep your internet disconnected and to have auto updates turned off

@@Keykos33 there’s a Shaymin glitch that works in 1.1.2. It was patched in 1.1.3.
In Mexico I have looked for a cartridge between 001 and 003 but all even those with the new classification format are cartridge 000, is there a good tutorial for the glitch menu for version 1.0.0?
Omw version 1.0.0 u can menu glitch wall thru walls from E4 but Shaymin will not be in flower pariside

@@clementepokevideos I haven't played bdsp in a while but I glitched through to flower paradise and upgraded to most recent version still no shaymin. You would need to menu glitch and then find a version with the shaymin event

@@clementepokevideos and then need a other switch to update to local version with the shaymin event whatever version # that was. Unfortunately even if you do find a copy with the shaymin event version # you'd still need another switch with 1.0.0 BDSP as the menu glitch was patched out in the version the shaymin event is. So you'd need to glitch from the E4 on switch #1 with v1.0.0 get to flower paradise save, and then update to match local user. It literally sucks and is damn near I possible I had a saved state in flower paradise for many months before giving up

Why would it? You literally just encounter shaymin like u do in the event. Instead now ur event item as an out of bounds glitch. It wont corrupt

@@A_Moustached_Sock the whole vid is about hunting for the very specific game cartridge that hasn’t been updated yet as in a USED OLD cartridge that Nintendo didn’t auto update…the new retail versions already come auto updated.
And yes he did very clearly & successfully transferred the “glitched” shaymin to his Pokémon home towards the end of the video…where he also mentions that if you HAVE a hard copy of the old pre-updated game you could also try to “factory reset” your switch so your console doesn’t auto remember your updates but he wasn’t willing to do that and potentially lose all his saved files.
There is a comment thread a few comments under yours of a guy following this video and successfully executing this as well it’s a good read and he mentioned something this video tutorial failed to mentioned which is you need the opposite version of the game you already own (because your switch will still remember your prior updates)

So I have my main save game on v1.3.0. And I have v1.1.1 on my CFW. Would my save get corrupted on my 1.3.0 if I go back to 1.1.1 to do this glitch then go back to 1.3.0. Sorry if it sounds confusing. Just don’t want my main save gone and loose everything I did. Also it’s 2 separate switches one normal and one CFW.

And if you do it, I think you would have only a problem if you're in a region that wasn't in the game on release, eg the arceus area

Just ask the seller, and make sure that the game youre looking for is the opposite to the one you alr have

no one has confirmed this so reply if you tried this. there is a glitch to get to the area darkrai spawns in the 001 and 002 versions (search bdsp darkrai choice glitch blaines), but he doesn't spawn in. if you try saving in the old version, then update the game to the current version he might show up? you will lose the old version forever if you do this, so you would get shaymin first, and then do the other exclusive glitches if you want.

No. What I'm gathering from this video is that you're screwed if you updated unless you want to buy a whole other copy of the game with a specific version on the cartrige.
I doubt it works on the digital edition but I will test
