Living at a healthy weight is something that I reached. It did not come naturally to me due to a genetic advantage. Back when I felt stuck, I had a great story to explain to myself and the world why I couldn't change. I was raising a family, there were work and financial pressures, other family members wanted junk food in the house, and even if I got out of the house, social gatherings kept the cards stacked against me. I had my story well-rehearsed, and I could find plenty of evidence to defend it. So, I held onto it and spent many years being right and feeling miserable. If you lose weight only to gain it back, you feel stuck, or you are simply looking for a way to make weight control easier, it is worth taking a look at your story. We’ll do that in this video.

Thank you! Years ago I had my DNA tested because I was under cruel behavior from a few family members. I got to see MY STORY! God took people from all over the world to make me! I laughed at the results with joy! My story.
My life has great purpose even if tiny in the eyes of others. My food story is the same way. I had to say no to others to take off and keep off the weight. The discipline came day after day and added to my self respect and strength! Changed my life. I am 63. Wish I had done this at 25!

Thank you for these ideas! Here are some that I added to my personal list: I need to drink a lot of water (to avoid kidney stones); I like to plan ahead; My husband will eat (almost) anything I put in front of him; My husband likes to go on bike rides together; Noom taught me how to major on non-food activities for stress-relief and purpose; I love living in a minimalist space, which includes the kitchen; I love the way I feel in my clothes currently and don't want my weight to creep up; I thought I could never be happy without sugar, but I found out I can! Life is easier when I have some basic guidelines to follow (i.e. 0-1-2-3).
Mindset is so essential! It sets us up for success. The rest of success builds on it!😊

Dr. Becky. For a week I tried OMAD. I mentioned it before😂 To break my habit of snacking. I ate between 6 am -12pm. One meal. It was fantastic. Down 8 pounds. I know the science so not all was blubber. It worked so well I am giving it more days. I made sure I covered all my nutrients bases. The size of the meal was perfect! I loved not having to plan meals for myself!! Get it done, totally enjoy it and move on. Never thought it possible. It will not be a lifestyle. But for now it is good.
I have stuck to my daily fast , i hate the weight plateaus and weight fluctuations it soul destroying
I used your story for years, well, all but the social engagements.

Thank you for this message. I have only 7 of your listed advantages and my worst enemies are time and fatigue, but I think I’ve let these just become routine excuses without realizing it. I will think of other advantages I have and rehearse those rather than just default to the can’ts.

Hi Dr Becky this is Margo, I follow you and have your new book. As a psychologist I love this focus on changing your mindset! I sometimes have to remind myself I am a tough warrior because of the work I do and I remind myself I can eat healthy and get to a healthy weight. I am on that journey! I’m struggling so much. I’ll do good for awhile and then have one snack and are off for a week. I’m so tired of the yo-yo experience. I just wished I could stick to it!

I think you should make a list of all the “I can’t lose weight because…” statements and ways to refute them. It seems for some there’s always a reason.

In the checklist, for the 2 cups cooked non-starchy vegetables, I do not see 'artichokes', 'carrots', 'onions' nor 'spinach' but in the video where an image of a similar list is shown during Dr Becky's 0-1-2-3 videos (I think it is #2 or #3 video), those 2 vegetables are there. Since I do not want to undo the good work already showing, I would like to know if those 4 vegetables are considered non-starchy or not. I am a fan for those vegetables especially and would so appreciate to include them in my diet. I appreciate all your good and supportive comments. Thank you.

Thanx Becky... I cant get onto my treadmill, sedentary for 8 months due to a severe injury.
Back home, but afraid to start. 20 lbs overweight. fatigue & insomnia plague me. 70 yrs young, heart failure patient. PLEASE HELP ME... IM YOUNG FOR MY AGE
I am 72. I made small changes to give up sweets, then continued on from there. Keto / low carb is my lifestyle now. I'm down 50 lbs, and keeping it off. You can do it, take 1 step forward today.
Get outside as much as possible. . Feel the sun walk on the grass/ground if you can sit by a tres, these small steps were how I got started finally. ❤ I’m 70
If you can read (or watch a tutorial on TH-cam) you can cook, just stay to the (easy) recipes with healthy ingredients. You can do that!
