    After six months of no sugar, low carb and intermittent fasting 4-5 days per week my skin tags are gone and my waist is down from41 to 36. Still a ways to go, but am so thankful for your videos and helpful tips. I am a 78 year old woman and had little hope of being metabolically healthy. Thanks for your practical tips and clear explanations of things to do. Now to convince the doctor I don’t need the statin he prescribed.

      My BMI is 22 and my A1C is still over 11, with morning glucose around 300-350. Everyone talks about losing weight--but I'm not sure how much more I can realistically lose. It seems like the tiniest bit of carbs spikes my glucose through the roof. So does sleeping, for some bizarre reason.

      @@Christina0925yes you can but what you need to consider is that sugar and carbs like breads and pasta messes with the mechanism that lets you feel satiated after eating a meal and keep the hunger away till the next meal.

    • @altuspienaar7679
      @altuspienaar7679 14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      It would be a miracle, sugar is a carb and what you need to do to see real results is to stop eating all carbs or very little carbs.
      Just keep in mind that carbs causes the food cravings so the less the better.
      Once you stop eating carbs you will still get hungry but you will not crave for certain foods any longer. I eat when I want to and how much I want to but in a controlled manner at the times I have set and at quantities that is sensible and healthy. Since going carnivore I have never over eaten, felt bloated or stuffed or felt uncomfortable from too much food in my stomach.
      I always eat till a feel satiated meaning I never leave the table still feeling hungry but I just get to that point much sooner while eating and once I reach that point I have no desire to keep eating because the food tastes so good or because I keep on craving for more even though I am already full.

    Just (1) day of fasting per week can do a lot.
    You BG and insulin are lowered.
    You also will learn what hunger feels like.
    This will help you not feel hunger on the days you eat normally.

    I got a CGM about two months ago. I am a 71 yo male. At the start I typically found my glucose level to be around 210mg/dl. As I found what spiked my blood I eliminated those foods from my diet. Just the elimination of the blood spikes brought my reading down to numbers under 130. One morning during the first week I had a reading of 60. Woah, that's a low number and I guess I was going to low. The medications I was taking Glipizide and Metformin. I removed the Glipizide completely and cut the Metformin to half. My blood sugar was completely normal and stayed between 90-130. I've noticed that coffee, sad to say causes big spikes (and I don't put sugar in it) so I switched to one cup of tea in the morning. Bread, pizza, noodles, potatoes and rice no more. I had read all the things I should avoid but it wasn't believable never realized how my mind works. Realization was the key for me. When I go to the grocery store now I take a typewritten list and stick to it.

    I have followed these videos for about a year now and monitored my morning blood glucose. I cant really see my eating habits changing from this routine. Intermittent fasting and low carbohydrate with monitoring my macros really works.

    When I first mentioned my skin tags to my then family physician some 5-6 years ago, she dismissed them as a sign of aging: she jocularly calls them barnacles, she said. Not a word about insulin resistance, let alone it being a precursor of diabetes 2. I had to educate myself via TH-cam videos like this one and get an insulin resistance diagnosis in Europe, while visiting relatives there, to figure out what was going on and what to do about it.
    Btw, I simultaneously had digestion issues and burping in an empty stomach that she recommended TUMS for. I even got myself tested for H. pylori; negative. It was just a few weeks after I'd adopted the low-carb way of eating that I noticed my burping was gone and I no longer had any digestion issues. Some people, like me, really don't do well on carbs and need to eliminate all grains and sugar for good. Occasional consumption of either is ok, but by occasional I mean once or twice a month, tops. I find carbs so addictive that for now -- I still have quite a bit of weight to lose -- it's best not to have any at all.

    20 years on keto now (it wasn't even called this when I started). First meal of the day would be an English breakfast: 2 rashers of bacon 2 eggs, 2 sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and water cress or lettuce with lashings of black tea. Could be any time up to 3pm from a 7-8pm meal the night before. Didn't do this to drop weight as I've never had a problem in this respect. Changed my former vegetarian diet due to the chronic, debilitating and incessant pain - which ceased within 1 day of switching to keto. One thing I'd highlight to anyone considering switching is to watch your triglyceride:HDL ratio and keep it below 2.0. to ensure no heart problems. Keep your trigs low by avoiding carbs and your HDL as high as possible by eating LOTS of saturated fat (and avoiding all seed oils). All other lipid profile markers are irrelevant.

I used it to text theories around what happened with my blood glucose when I walked after eating, slept more hours or eating lower carbs, more protein, etc. The two weeks usage allowed me to create a plan that I can follow with certainty without relying on a CGM. I now know when it's working based on my body cues. Hope this helps!

      @JayJayNay,
      I'm also in Canada, and I DO NOT want one! It's NOT necessary!
      I'm a type two diabetic and the highest my HbA1c ever got was 7.3. My doctor couldn't advise me on what I should do to lower my numbers.
      He sent me to a dietitian-nutritionist who advised me to eat 6 times a day; one of the meals consists of 3 high-carb foods; imagine rice, yellow lentils, and potatoes, in the same meal! I left and never returned.
      I searched on TH-cam and watched many videos, some of them with Dr. Mandell, Dr. Berg, and other doctors, plus a pastor named Mr Dennis Pollock. Those gentlemen are helping many of us worldwide! May God bless them🙏
      Next, I went to Shopper's Drug Mart and bought a "Contour Next" glucose monitor test kit. I started consuming low-carbs, moderate protein, and fats, drinking 2 litres of water and walking every day on my treadmill when I didn't go outdoors.
      I began testing my blood glucose (only) when I consumed a meal that I thought was a bit higher in carbs than usual.
      Within 5 months, I brought down my HbA1c to 6.0, with the help of those doctors, the pastor, and my glucose monitor that only takes a tiny drop of blood; the needle is so fine that you don't hurt at all whenever you prick your fingertip!
      You can do what I did and I can assure you that you'll be happy! Btw, you'll also get 2 boxes of FREE test strips per year; each box has 100 strips; you can buy whatever you may need for yourself.
      Mr. Jay, I wish you the best, and God bless 🙏

    Continuous glucose monitor is mostly uninteresting for non-diabetics. Your body compensates until it can’t anymore. You can be close to full diabetes and have a near flat sugar curve. Before diabetes breaks out you may have 5 times as high insulin than a normal person. When you cannot compensate anymore, that’s when diabetes suddenly appears.

I wear a CGM and have been awakened in the night several times since starting my CGM due to low glucose (under 58) There doesn’t seem to be a lot of information on TH-cam regarding this condition, mostly type 2 which I don’t have but am close to pre. I keep my insulin low throughout the day and have only had three spike since starting the CGM three weeks ago. Once with brown rice, another with a very heavy dessert, and a spike with a hot bath. Perhaps you could shed some light on why a bath would cause my glucose to go from 79 to 146 then back down 15 minutes after getting out of the tub. all very interesting stuff. I don’t like being awakened in the early morning hours though. Sleep is gold for me. Thank you

      @sarikadatta3706 Wow, that's great, awesome. Your TG/HDL ratio is a better predictor of atherosclerosis than your total cholestrol and LDL-C levels. If you are insulin sensitive, and your HDL is above 60, it doesn't matter how high your LDL-C levels are. You are protected from heart disease.
      There is good evidence that when atherosclerosis does occur, it is almost always in the setting of insulin resistance, metabolic dysfunction, and inflammation.
      So, I am very happy for you. You are fantastic.

      Mine were 863 and 20. So a ratio of around 42. I guess that means I'm very insulin resistant.
      I am not even overweight. My BMI is 22 and they tell me I don't need to lose weight. I don't know what else to do other than 100% avoid all types of carbs forever. That seems to be the only thing that works, including avoiding milk, all fruit, and any veggies that are at all sweet (carrots, beets, corn).
      Basically live on meat and veggies forever? Or will the numbers eventually normalize and allow for a more diverse diet again? Is there any kind of pill that will increase insulin sensitivity?
      Do they know what causes insulin resistance yet? It seems like there should be some way to get at the root of the problem...

    • @Dolphin_457
      @Dolphin_457 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @joe5923 Hi Joe, there is a medical term that describes your condition, thin, normal BMI, yet still insul8n resistant. It's called TOFI (Thin Outsite Fat Inside). It's the fat you can't visibly see that's harmful. That fat is the liver fat or fatty liver or insulin resistance of the liver. My TG/HDL ratio before I started my ketogenic lifestyle and OMAD was over 6. Now it's 1.01.
      Yes I agree with you. You don't have to lose weight. What you have to do is follow a ketogenic lifestyle, start a one-meal-a-day intermittent fasting or OMAD, stop snacking. 0 grains, 0 sugar, 0 fructose and l9ng walks. All this helped me become insulin sensitive. I hope it helps you too. But, yes, definitely cut down your carbohydrates down to 10 to 20g a day and OMAD.definitelydefinitely

I read that in Europe 14% of people diagnosed as type 2 diabetic actually have a late onset autoimmune disorder and are actually type 1. NHS doesn't care, the "solution" is just the same. This way to the inevitable medication escalator. I guess insulin is the bread and butter earner for pharma - keeps it ticking over between statin crazes & such

    Dr. Becky,
    You may not read the comments this late after this video, but I wanted to reach out to you because my husband got some confusing Labs yesterday. He has lost close to 50 lb doing low carb. He felt awful in the beginning and started taking an electrolyte supplement called lmnt to help with keto flu and leg cramps. It made a huge difference! He got his labs this week and his LdL went way up, triglycerides went way down to 51, HDL went up to 56, and his A1C went up to 6.2 from 5.7 previously. His CO2 was low as well. His doctor was thrilled about the weight loss but she was very upset about the LDL and the CO2. She wants to put him on a statin, she wants him to start eating potatoes and bananas and less protein and she wants him to stop drinking the lmnt. My husband is so discouraged and we don't know what to do. I think she's at a total loss with people who do keto. We need a doctor that understands this lifestyle so they can help us navigate it. Any advice?

    Low fat plant based. Lots of veggies. You can still have potatoes, eat them with veggies - slows down the sugar of the potato. So mush easier to eat this way than the restrictive medically accepted way. Look at Dr. Bernard's video and book.

    Becky, watched one of your posts a month or so back. Used to be a regular viewer of your 2FitDocs page. Glad to see that Keith is alive & kicking and doing well! Will he be occasionally joining you on your page?
    I used a CGM myself for about two years to determine which foods I needed to avoid. I went carnivore in Oct 2021 and now that I have my eating habits set, I don't do any testing anymore.

    This disease is so frustrating. Even when I think I'm being low carb, I wake up with glucose levels in the 300s. My last fasting glucose reading at the doctor's was 445. (I had stupidly eaten very high carb the day before.) I'm not even addicted to sugar or carbs, but they seem to be hidden in everything. I often think I'm avoiding carbs, but apparently I'm not.
    We are supposedly "insulin resistant," so what is the point of doctors prescribing higher and higher dosing of insulin to us? Doesn't that just make us more resistant in the long run? My dosing has only gone up, never down.
    If I'm very good about avoiding carbs in a day, my glucose can end up being as low as 100-110 or even occasionally in the 90's before bed. Again, frustrating, because it'd seem that after a day's worth of eating--even if low carb--the glucose should be higher, not lower. I then take my insulin before bed, which is worrisome sometimes when my sugar levels are already around 100. The doctors tell me to make sure my sugars don't go lower than 70. How do I know what they are while I sleep?! It makes me want to purposely binge carbs before going to sleep just to be on the safe side.
    I generally wake up right back at 300+ again. I'm at the point of wanting to try like a weeklong fast. But do I keep injecting insulin if I'm not eating anything? I'm a small guy, 5'5" and 130 lbs. I carry my fat in my stomach, which I guess is why I'm diabetic. No family history. I could stand to lose another 10-ish pounds of belly fat, and be on the low end of "normal" BMI. I'll do this if it would make the diabetes go away, but the doctors always just comment about my BMI being in the normal range as is.
    Very annoying disease!

    A question: how long is normal for your A1c to get below 5.7? I have been keto/carnivore for 14 months. My last A1c was a repeat reading of 6.1. That was in October 2023. My next A1c will be in April. Based on morning fasting glucose numbers, averaging about 116, I'm not expecting my A1c to go down much or at all. Are there people like me that might take 2 or 3 years to get the A1c down below 5.7? I'm 66 yo. C-peptide 2.2. Fasting insulin 7. I weigh 157. Before keto, my A1c was 6.7. I lost 30 lbs in the first 6 months, but weight holding steady since. I wore a CGM for 2 weeks and it was quite stable during that time. I feel that the diet is working, but would love to see A1c improvement.

      Two questions: are you sure you’re in ketosis? And do you fast at all? If so, how long? A1c typically isn’t hard to get down pretty quickly, but depending on metabolic issues, it may take a bit longer. I would incorporate longer fasts and make sure you’re in ketosis most, if not all the time, for a while.

      There are many variables to consider, so predicting when you'll get below 5.7 is not possible. There are factors that can impact morning fasting glucose, such as dawn phenomenon that don't affect your A1c.

    Using one of these units which is connected to your phone, it's not safe, having your information on the internet , an ipns don't work good enough, I suggest you just eat right and check your blood sugar as much as possible,
    On a graft 180 on the top and 80 on the bottom, keeping my numbers within the graft,
    I'm getting 99 up to 1:54, which all are within the graft, and knowing what spikes your blood sugar depending on what you eat,
    paying attention to what you eat is very important, and there's more to this as far as disciplining yourself and knowing what you can eat and what you can't eat,
    not watching what I was eating landed me on the floor with a diabetic coma, I almost died,
    but once I understood what was going on and paid attention to what I ate, my levels which I keep now within the 180 and the 80 on the graft, changed everything, but I'm still using two long-lasting shots of insulin a day, but I'm working towards no insulin whatsoever with a doctor's supervision.

My endo has claimed on many occasions, that CGMs are designed for people with "real diabetes" and are not as accurate on people without diabetes. (My A1C is around 5.7) Is this true? She says the CGM will read low. She says it needs the blood spikes to adjust, and my spikes are minimal.

    Hi doctor! Over the years my weight has yo-yod and I did lose substantial weight in my 20s going from 300lb to around 205lb. As a result my skin tags I had did disappear. I regained all my weight though. Then just two years ago at 35, I decided to lose weight using low carb, exercise and fasting. As a result I’m now just about 185lb or so. I’m healthier than I ever was before, my waist has gone down from 44 to around 36, and my bmi is in the over weight range, no longer obese. I’m making progress at getting to normal weight bmi. The thing is though, my skin tags are still there this time 😂. How weird, I expected them to go away once I crossed 200lb.

    What test for insulin resistance should I do ?

  • @JimSiverts
    @JimSiverts 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +177

    Insulin resistance is a normal response to a serious problem that you are inflicting on yourself - eating carbohydrates. What needs to be overcome is not insulin resistance but rather the habit of stuffing yourself with carbohydrates. Stop eating carbohydrates and insulin resistance isn’t even a topic of discussion. The requirement for dietary carbohydrates in humans is zero. People have insulin resistance because they are eating a substance that their body neither requires nor desires. It can make all of it needs on its own. It doesn’t want your input. Stop inputing carbohydrates.

      @@karahamil3657Exactly. I started low carb with an a1c of 11.5, 7 years ago (next week). I have since went dirty keto > keto > ketovore > dirty carnivore > carnivore strict (2 weeks ago). I did a gradual decrease in carbs, started at 30 total per day, down to less than 5 total per day this past year (mostly), and now only see carbs from eggs and and a small amount of cheese. Insulin resistance does not always reflect a carbage diet! I will have my a1c tested again in a few weeks. I have gone as low as 5.6, and gone back up to 6.1. Strict carnivore, very high fat recently, appears to be making some changes. We are always learning...always! I went off insulin 5 years ago, and I went off Metformin 3 years ago. @@karahamil3657 that you have symptoms even with a low carb diet supports my point. The poison is a matter of dose and when it comes to carbs the dose is low. Thats why our pancreas springs into action to deal with any glucose added to your bloodstream. It tightly controls the amount because if it doesn’t it’s toxic at best and deadly at worst. It’s hard to avoid all carbohydrates for sure. Nature didn’t anticipate the grocery store.
