Masquerade goes 100% with the edge factor but I think that’s why it works so well. He didn’t have a deep motivation, he just wanted to win and cause suffering to others
There were two characters I liked the most. The cool masked villain, masquerade and the best waifu in the series, Alice. When I learned that they were the same person, I had kinda mixed feelings at first but then who cares.. she is now the cooler waifu to ever exist.
It also makes complete sense considering he's a being born out of negative energy. So he's acting very similarly to the bakugan who are affected by it as well, living purely for battle and the desire to win.
Msquerade was the best villain in my opinion. He was cold, ruthless, scary, and could back it up. Even as the Brawlers got stronger, it felt like he was 1 step ahead and could still beat anyone. He was not to be messed with and it was amazing to see him get such an arc
He was always one step ahead because he shared Alice's mind and memories. Alice was one of the Brawlers, so Masquerade (who was Alice), always knew their plans, battling strategy etc.
@@Cubus-zapasowy That is true but even against opponents he never knew like the illusionary Alice or even againt Joe, he has shown that he can strategize and form a plan to win. If Wayvern didn't use the infinity core power, Masquerade could have probably beaten Joe and Masquerade even beat Excedra after having no knowledge on him
He proves that in chapter 27. The group believe that with Delta Dragonoid, they were invincible...then,Drago loose against Dual Hydranoid. But,at the same time,Masquerade felt that he was left behind when the Brawlers got Delta Dragonoid as Drago was 450G,exactly Hydranoid's power...so he went and train Hydranoid to make him evolve too in order to remain one step further
@@leddarklight7566 Yeah. Masquerade realized that Drago got stronger and to beat him, he needed more power which shows Masquerade is smart and knows when he needs to step up to deal with his enemies
Masquerade’s conversation with Alice in the fight against Exedra is honestly one of the most cleverly written dialogues in a kids show imo. You get foreshadowing, character development, and words that hit really hard once you know his identity. He’s cocky and doesn’t care much for morals, but his need to win to keep himself alive almost makes him sympathetic in a way that’s subtle. The part about this that I think about more than anything else is when Alice asks if he’s afraid of her, and he says he isn’t because he knows everything about her. I’ve always seen this as a half-truth, because he may not be afraid of her, but he clearly seems afraid of losing his only purpose in being alive. He doesn’t fear Alice, he fears what her existence means to his, at least at the time of this conversation.
It's really ashame the series forgot about her. Like imagine if her, Runo and Julie went to New Vestroia with the boys and had new partners along with them to rescue, Tigerera, Gorem and Hydranoid! I imagine Alice would have a Darkus partner that respresented her beauty, wisdom and self defensive nature and she got Hydranoid's sheer power and combined the two's styles together. I really hate what New Vestroia did with them.
One of the things that distinguished masquerade from later villains like spectra is that masquerade was always one step ahead of them and substantially stronger for most of the season. They had no answer for him. Dan only beat him once whereas Dan and spectra battled multiple times with outcomes varying as they were more evenly matched.
Honestly what makes masquerade so iconic was that he was genuinely just different when it came to the game of bakyugan him and hydroinoid and we’re just cold the battle he had with Dan just showcases how smart he was he planned everything so well from the timing of his gate abilities and timing of his ability cards they dropped the ball when they made him purely a persona would have been dope if he was a official character
Bro let’s be honest, they couldn’t let masquerade be an independent character . He was the most skilled brawler on the show regardless of the season, he would’ve shortened new vestroia’s season substantially. Plus his style didn’t translate well to the games in the later seasons which became less strategy based and more on raw power focused.
I waited many years to see someone make this video. Masquerade is one of the coolest 'kid show villains' ever and the sole reason I still consider this series good today lol. I remember watching Dan lose to him as a kid and was stunned, as my naïve mind back then just assumed Dan would beat anyone and good always beats evil. The reveal that Alice was Masquerade all along was a shock to me as a child, though when rewatching the series now its clear as day for a billion episodes but as a kid it's a great twist. One last thing, Alice jumping out of that plane and turning into Masquerade still gives me the chills upon every rewatch.
The only other question I guess I have for now regarding Masquerade is his face. If you recall, in “Masquerade unmasked”, at the end when he is about to shake Dans hand he changes his mind, and takes his mask off and changed to Alice. Why didn’t the show want to show his face with the hair up without the mask? 🤔 Just curious. Secondly, have any of you seen the Japanese version? How does it compare?
What throwback ! I forgot about this series and masquerade. I remember the plot twist completely leaving me dumbfounded . I’m happy you covered this awesome character.
My biggest gripe with the show is that Alice was built and hyped up to be coolest and badest brawler along with Dan and they decided to waste her character and development in s2 almost instantly. It would have been really cool and interesting seeing Alice find a middle ground between her and her Masquerade persona. It would have been so cool and interesting seeing Masquarde and Spectra moment. Like they could have been temporay allies and then been foes and realistically speaking I think Masquarde and Hydranoid is alot more stronger then specta and helios since helios never had a "true" evolution since his forms are based off of body mods. Hydranoid would had kept evolving had given the oppertunity. Hell that was even his whole spin in the first season being the one that could keep up with drago. I think Masquarde fighting aainst Spectra for second best would have been such a fun and cool concept cause at this point Shun has hella fell off since season 1
Yeah, I agree. Alice and Chan should've defeated Shadow Prove after they destroyed his Robot Hydranoid. But nope he just got to win because apparently he had a Spider Mechanical Bakugan out of nowhere and Alpha Hydranoid and Fortness couldn't beat.
@@thephoenixxm4160 yeah that part for me was really a mistake. Alpha Hydranoid defeated like it was nothing... For Heavens sake...he was the main villain of the previous season 💔
Hydranoid was ahead of drago up until the arena battle. Which makes his second season loss even more ridiculous, given that preyas and a trap could beat both the spider and dryoid lol
Probably an unpopular opinion, but I was happy with how Season 1 ended and don’t consider the other seasons to be canon. And one of the reasons for that is because the character development for Alice was ruined, and Alpha Hydranoid got completely nerfed. To top it off, I felt like the additional seasons were unnecessary. I mean, just LOOK at how Season 1 ended: Naga was defeated, Hal-G was turned back into Dr. Michael, all the Bakugan return home to a reborn Vestroia, and Dan goes out on his first date with Runo. Perfect ending!!! But nope - I guess the Vexos had to come along and ruin everything. 😂
Really makes you wonder whst if Hydranoid and Alice reappeared in Mechtanium Surge to really show off her full potential, like seriously Hydranoid is the only other Bakugan besides Drago who became the Ultimate Bakugan, hell you can headcanon given Hydranoids potential go against Bakugan with the ultimate warrior gene like Drago does that Hydranoid has the same type of gene in his DNA Code slightly and Alice/Masquerade are able to bring out that said potential themselves since code eve states each Bakugan has a Brawler their destined with and Hydranoid was destined for Alice/Masquerade so again imagine where Drago and Dan share their powers with Alice and Hydranoid, Hydranoid not only evolves, but gets his own Mechtagon along with a Titan given his ultimate Bakugan status instead of Shun and Taylean getting a Titan.
He is basically ryuga but more serious and died on first season instead of last man was the strongest brawler ever and while alive is him he was the only person who could take her skills and knowledge and use it to the best of their abilities with his ruthless cold nature
My history with Masquerade is an odd one. I knew lots about reboot, but the OG show it was from was a mystery to me. I had just gotten the video game for my Wii and had beaten that Ninja guy Shun. I thought all was done, until this odd blond guy with the most ridiculous outfit and and hair showed up. I didn't know what was going on or why he had a big black dragon so I did some Googling. This odd dude was really that friendly girl Alice. What?? I found ep 38 and was blown away! This OG show from 2008 was cool. The brawling was powerful, Dan and Drago were so different yet likeable. Masquerade looked amazing, and had a cool voice. After ep 39 I went back and watched the show from episode 1. TLDR: Masquerade and Alice got me into this show and I haven't looked back.
I used it him as profile picture for many reasons. But what lied underneath that mask was what I was indirectly hinting at people, being one of the bigger reasons.
this video definetly brought back my nostalgia thank you. i do wonder if the mask changed alices voice too with some filter. otherwise if alice's voice can get that deep like that then thats just crazy
Masquerade is the only bad guy who didn't get his ass beat by Dan and the other brawlers... instead he was the one beating their asses Spectra lost like every single battle except one...he even lost while cheating and was the first in a long line of looser bad guys... masquerade was the only bad guy to take Ws
This first generation/season of Bakugan is the version of the series I fell in love with. Playing the video game while watching the series made me really feel like I was in the series with them (I also chose Darkus to rival him). Masquerade was definitely the most mature and mischievous out of all the brawlers which was insane due to his counterpart Alice who is very innocent and intellectual. I wish the series had continued with this first seasons cast and way of playing the game, I def would’ve kept up with the series.
Masquerade was a warrior of quality and superior intellect, but his only weakness was that he thought he was invincible. He also developed the Hydranoid by exploiting the weakness of humans. There's no dispute about Spectra and Masquerade The Masquerade 10 shirt was a superior fighter. He was even a better fighter than Masquerade Dan Kuso. I wish Spectra wasn't wasted on Masquerade's remorse. If you look at Spectra's Darkus states, he was acting just like Masquerade, which I think was a much more charismatic warrior. In fact, it seems to me that the Mectanium Surge wiped out their defeat in New Vestroia. However, it is a fact that Spectra was torn from its essence due to Masquerade's remorse, and this regret was abolished. Unfortunately this is the truth of the matter. The screenwriter regrets taking the masquerade from the show early.
Of All the villains that ever Graced the series... Mascaraed is the Op....the best. His charisma is so on point and it hurts we didn't see him in the next seasons after. Helios vs Hydranoid And we could also have seen Hydranoid summon a Mectagon. Like if only 😫🤧
The last battle, however, was rigged for Dan to win. No matter how you slice it on the technicality. His Fusion ability card from the Destruction series( Destruction Buster and Destruction Impact) all had the +100 G effect and Gate Card nullifying effect, except... for the last one( Final Destruction, or how it was mistranslated as Demolition which mean the same thing, but it's funny because the Japanese dub literally says Final Destruction in English...), the gate card which wasn't deactivated as it should've been allowed Dan to win via a 100 G difference.
The last battle against Dan* To clarify about the Destruction series. I am talking about each evolution of Hydranoid that has the Gate Card disabler effect from the Fusion ability card.
