Never had meds with either delivery, decades ago. Had short, intense labors. 2 healthy sons. Had midwife delivery, in the hospital, almost 40 years ago. Was lucky to deliver at 1 of the rare US hospitals (at least in our area) that used midwives. Wasn't definitely NOT against meds! Would loved offer of "gas & air" for 2nd labor. I never screamed. Spent too much time in prepared childbirth classes, & practicing the breathing, that it kept me busy.

If you waste time and resources by needing an ambulance purely because you're wasted, you should be sent a bill.

If you’re drunk, I totally agree with you. Drinking is something that’s in your control and if you’re too irresponsible to know when to stop, then your drunkenness is your fault.
I know you just can’t leave somebody who has passed out on the street but I think that they should be covering some of the ambulance bill for them getting help by them.

I wonder why the USA doesn't use gas and air for patients. It's only available at the dentist office. And they charge for it.

USA has no compression for people . I know I’ve been picked up by EMTs enough over 65 years . They don’t care . When I have no choice but call I get worse thinking how rude and uncaring they are going to be . One day I pray it changes .
My last call I could not breath and they made me walk all the way to the ambulance and I was really having a hard time breathing . When we got to the hospital the first thing the doctor ask me was do you want to recessed and can I pray with you ! God bless this doctor always ! I was in the hospital for 8 days and left level 4 air 24-7 ! These EMTs CARE . God bless

that’s crazy. i live in BC canada and i’m trained to use it even at a low certification level and at the beginning of my career.

Yeah, even in the hospital it isn’t an option unless you’re in labor. It would be a great alternative to opioids, given how doctors absolutely refuse to give those to patients who actually need them. I got 3 days of pain meds after spinal surgery and that’s it

@motionless_horizon That's all the US doctors give to surgical patients. 6 pain pills for major surgery. It's brutal.

A whole unit and a team of nurses wasted because people choose to drink too much. The people who need this should be charged for being idiots.

Alcohol related calls if they turn out to be a non emergency should be charged for. If the patient is on state benefits a sanction on their benefits should be imposed

If that was to happen they would tell you to call private taxi company or call someone to fetch you to take you home
      Ambulance in SA is expensive.

What for? A drunk woman who has already wasted the time of 3 separate ambo's who are needed elsewhere? Cos she gets herself stupidly drunk? She should be fined for their time.
