Mina Gallery Intake Dyno Tested - Jaguar XFR - does it make any difference or just look pretty?

    This video and the test performed are for our own reference, we were not sponsored in any way to perform these tests, we were just searching for what is best for our cars.
    The dyno results are from a direct replacement of the 2 intakes on the same map. The map adjusts to the air flow detected by the MAF sensor.
    So we believe that the results are true, but are willing to hear/see test data that either supports or contradicts our personal findings.

    It's a supercharged car so naturally the heat is extremely hard to deal with stationary on dynos. Add that to the fact they ran two runs back to back with the hood closed on their intake. Then waited an hour and ran the factory OEM intake with the hood open to compare... Not a fair comparison.

    Great video and very timely. I love seeing this type of honest back to back testing where there is not a profit motive to worry about. I was strongly considering buying that intake to what I thought complement the lower pulley and tune I am getting from Eurotoys. I was shocked at the results as I have owned three different supercharged vehicles and usually a smoother free flowing intake either helped or at least didn’t,t hurt performance like this one did. While we don’t have the benefit of validating the other comment from a viewer that they had similar results after removing theirs it shows that this wasn’t some one off freak result. It’s hard to imaging under what circumstance the manufacturer could have come up with the results that they claim. While I have always taken manufacturers claims with a bit of skepticism a 35-40 hp difference between claimed gains and reality is mind blowing. Keep up the good work. New subscriber here for sure. I look forward to check out the rest of your videos.

It’s wasted space, not needed at all.

    What does the intake temp change too when you have the cones on it aswell like your supposed to?

    • @69racer69
      @69racer69  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because they are in the engine bay where all the heat coming off the engine is instead of being sealed in a box with the cold air feed.
      If you can isolate the cones away from engine bay air then you won’t get the problem from the cones. But the intake itself is also getting hot as the metal is transferring the engine bay heat to the air inside it.

    • @69racer69
      @69racer69  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The map adjusts to the air flow using the MAF sensors, the test isn’t flawed as it has been done the other way around by an independent person on their car in the USA and had a similar outcome.

    • @69racer69

      Absolutely, Jaguar know their stuff, they also design things with a compromise, but finding what can be improved on and what can’t isn’t an easy thing. The inlet designed by Jag is so intricate with the additional resonator tubes etc, it wasn’t made to be cheap, it must have been designed like that for a reason. All we known is, it works better that the Mina intake.

    Ok. Thanks for the video but you have some conflicting video evidence here. First of all dyno runs are always made with the hood up and the fan running to simulate normal driving conditions where the air is flowing through the engine compartment. Your first dyno testing the intake showed the hood closed. It should of been open. No wonder temperatures were higher. Also was the car cooled down or was it hot? I also noticed at the end, for the comparison run, you had the hood open with the stock intake back on. The temperatures will be way different with the hood up. Also was the car cooled down for the final run with the hood up? If so that will make a dramatic difference on supercharged cars and any dyno run for that matter. It doesn’t seem you have given the Mina intake a chance at all with the hood closed and tested on a hot engine. Of course the stock numbers at the end will be better. The environments were completely different. Anyone can see the Mina intake is a way better design and better flowing than the OEM with all those ridges. I do think the metal tube would benefit from some kind of heat wrap or insulation coating on it.

    • @timothyhingham3672
      @timothyhingham3672 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This. Gotta be apples to apples in every way. Heat soak a boosted engine's intake and this is what you get.
      I'd guess the mina intake flows better but the intake isn't that restricted for the stock hp, so intake temps dominate the power results.
      The correct take away from this video is that you should thermally wrap your entire intake mina or stock if you want to keep your power up from one stop light to the next.
      If you really want to hear the supercharger and keep the intake as cool as possible, remove the plastic engine cover and cut through the engine sound insulation and water dam at the back of the hood to let sound come towards the passengers and air flow over the top of the engine and supercharger and out the top. It sounds great and will make your engine bay, and intake cooler.

    Looking at the plastic stock intake and the mina I have to think if the mina is jet hot coated and wrapped it would be better than the stock one? any input? I really dislike the stock one but I love power

    • @69racer69
      @69racer69  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s not all about the heat soak, it’s more around the speed of the airflow, the Mina gallery intake is too big and has slow air flow. The stock intake is matched to the optimum air flow entry speed into the supercharger. If you change it, it would have to be for looks only.

    • @kleetus92
      @kleetus92 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@69racer69 I was thinking about this too... the Mina must be having some kind of internal turbulence, and that's why it's worse... because only a degree or two of air temperature difference is effectively zero.

    • @69racer69
      @69racer69  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kleetus92 I think it’s down to the overall size of the tubes, it effectively slows down the air flow because combined they are double the size of the throttle body inlet. The standard intake is matched to the throttle body so it doesn’t add a restriction and also keeps the speed of the air flow up. The higher air flow shoots up inside the supercharger where as a slower air speed would have to be sucked into the supercharger, thus using some of the power to suck it in.
      That’s my take on it from an aerodynamic point of view.
