I just received new Gazebo canopies for upper and lower tiers from Garden Winds and found the upper tier way to tight, almost 2.5 inches on the last support. I found the best way to get it to fit was to take the whole top tier off and reassemble it, and with some effort was able to stretch it to fit without any tearing. Then I just took the whole top tier laid it on top of lower tier and then placed it on top with little difficulty. The above way was not working as illustrated in video, probably effective on the lower though.
Maybe fashion an insert of strong material that will fit inside the pocket to reinforce, a pocket inside a pocket without any seams on the stress point.
I have a Sunjoy "Summer Breeze" and I ordered that part directly from them. Usually the instructions, owner's manual have a parts order sheet with them. Probably too late for you but others may find this useful.

Do you have a recommendation for strengthening the corner pocket so that it is less likely to rip out over time?
Exactly. That is almost always the cause of failure in canopies. I'm looking right now for a way to make replacement pockets myself!
