Those cutaways did not look like they were built the same way... I saw a big difference in the build. There's only so much you can do to build an iron.. all of them are going to have some similarities.. I think this shouldn't even be a lawsuit.
Costco have got lots of money to settle with. Whereas the smaller guys don't. Similarly with Costco being something like 30 times the size of TM (taken from another comment), I guess TM are worried Costco could flood the market with a range of iron models all at significant price advantage
The problem isn't that COSTCO is too cheap (thereby sacrificing QC or consistency), its that the pricing set by the big equipment makers is too expensive. I work with factories who cast and forge very precise parts (we're talking about tolerances in the microns) and you would surprised how INEXPENSIVE it is to cast/forge + finish a part ONCE the tooling/mold is done. Once the finished part is completed, they are usually checked to a precisely made fixture to ensure compliance. Its a very profitable industry if you are successful at marketing your products.
I’m not a lawyer, but it seems like a stretch that TM could win this case. Just look at how many similar irons, drivers, wedges, putters, etc, are out there. Unless they are a carbon copy with the exact same substances, and the engineering is exactly the same, I don’t see it. I have not hit these irons as they are impossible to get in the US. When they came out, all these EBay people bought multiple sets and they are trying to sell them for double. Ridiculous. But for the weekend amateur, even if they are a little lacking in quality control, these are probably worth it. If a person is only playing about 40 or less times per year, why buy a $1500 set of irons? That’s just plain dumb. As far as Kirkland Golf stuff, they have good and bad. I can’t stand the balls. The gloves are great and inexpensive. I’ve heard a lot of good things about the irons, wedges, driver, and putter. Now maybe a seasoned golfer might notice some quality issues, but for the recreational golfer, who’s having to spend $75 to play a round of golf, having a choice to get a decent product and not break the bank, is a welcome thing. If golf continues to be more expensive, the game is going to go back to being an elite-only activity, like it was years ago. Is that what we really want?
I totally agree. Kirkland is disrupting Taylormade's business and Taylormade is throwing a tantrum. Why isn't Taylormade suing other golf companies and only Costco? They are mad because Costco is selling them so cheap. Sounds to me like we are seeing price fixing in the golf club industry. Class action lawsuit anyone?
Golf Galaxy is selling new Callaway and Taylormade drivers for $599 USD. Brand name irons start around $900 and go up to 2k. Kinda ridiculous. I buy very few clubs new unless they are on sale. I hope brands like Kirkland and Takomo keep doing what they're doing!
That’s the bottom line. I used to golf when I was kid through my early 20’s. My swing isn’t trash and fairly natural for someone who learned as a junior. I’m 45 now, and just started playing again the last couple years. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to jump into a fitting and needed something to get me excited about playing again. I had an older set of Taylormade R7’s and when I saw the KSig irons, I caught them online and grabbed a set. They feel so nice when you get a good strike. They’ll piss ya off when you miss hit, but overall, it’s made me focus on my swing again and I couldn’t be happier with them. Im excited about golf again. Mission accomplished
For a long time, as the price of Chanel increased, I no longer thought I could afford it. I think I'll be happy that I have the kislux as my travel bag that I don't have to take care of. By the way, I'm sure no one will have a hard time telling the difference. Thanks for the comparison.
They're suing one of the biggest companies in the world for unethical practices. Costco and Amazon have done this for years now - they find named brand products that do really well in the market and use their resources to copy and mass produce them and then undercut the competition.
Interesting discussion Alex. Some years ago I was talking to a friend and wondering what happened to Adam's Golf, he told me that Adams had invented the speed slot and Taylirmade copied it and to avoid a threatened law suit Taylormade bought Adams out. If that is true it is somewhat hypocritical of Taylormade to sue Costco for producing a similar looking iron. There are also a number of other companies that produce similar looking hollow body irons so I wonder why Taylormade have only singled out Costco.
The top dogs will never lower their prices like the one reviewer questioned. They don’t need too, because they are well established, and people will pay the prices. As for buying the Kirkland, I personally wouldn’t. I play the ‘23 p790 and love them. My next set will likely be the p770 or whatever equivalent they have at the time. However if I were to dip into that money conscious iron set, I’m not even considering Kirkland when I can get the Takomo irons. They have tons of feedback and come in at a good price. I wouldn’t mind trying the 201 model
Top manufacturers are like Apple. They know users buy heavily in previous year and used models. They use those markets to reach the lower consumers. If you want to know how much a club cost them to make look at manufacturing websites for 3 year old model and subtract 10%
I bought the Costco irons and hated them, played about 6 rounds, cleaned them up and sold them on eBay with minimal loss. I played way better with my 25 year old Ping ISI irons. I love the Kirkland driver though. As it happens I bought PXG irons which I much prefer to the Costco ones. To be fair though when I bought them they only came in stiff shafts and reckon I would be better with the regular even though I have no issue with the stiff shaft in the driver.
All good comments, but they may not hold much weight because, in my opinion, unless you're custom-fitted for each set, there will probably be a significant transition from one off-the-shelf set to another. It may take a whole season to learn a new set of irons.
Rick sheils compares these irons against the 790s,they are similar but some of the degrees of loft is either weaker or stronger as u move through the set. I think if I remember correctly ,the 790s we a little longer over all. Check out his review on his H. I. T. Channel..😊
Alex I saw a review of your in Titleist 350’s a game improvement iron and they are about £1300 which to me is madness for clubs that some might outgrown in a couple Of years. They would last me as a high handicap 64 year old a good few years I guess. I play Wilson D7 irons, great irons lovely feel and sensibly priced. I got mine 2nd hand virtually pristine less than 6 months old £400
Hey Man, love your content. I've been working on my own clubs and friends and families clubs for many years and can build any golf club with the accuracy of a tour van with the $300 worth of equipment in my garage. The only thing you mentioned about the possible issues with these clubs is the set up (loft, lie, length, swingweight) and maybe the shafts and grips. But that is any clubs. If you are a good golfer you are going to order all that custom anyway and those things can be dialed in on these clubs too. Any clubs will likely need the lofts adjusted for proper gapping and the lie angles dialed in for the individual golfer and lead tape is a golfer' best friend. That's the same with a name brand set. With a name brand set, my Dynamic Gold Tour Issues are a $35 up charge per club anyway. Other than minor adjustments what could be wrong with them? They are a lump of metal on the end of a metal stick with a rubber handle. Not every golf club is for every player anyway, so some may like these and some may not, just as a matter of preference. These are probably made in the same Chinese factory as the Taylormade irons, who knows. But Taylormade is and elite company that wants to charge a fortune so they can afford to pay their tour players to sell them on TV each week and Kirkland likes to offer value to their customers. Do a putter set up review. I recently bought a 2024 Scotty Cameron Phantom 9.5 putter with a swing weight of E1. My Newport 2 has a swing weight of D7. I'm getting used to it but I'm still undecided on such a heavy head and wonder why such an extremely heavy swing weight. But I heard Rory's Spider Tour is E3. I tried the Spider Tour at the golf shop and it wasn't E3 or even E1. I'm guessing it was D5-D7. I have a friend that is the golf shaft designer for a major brand of golf shafts. I still want to hear his take on the putter swing weight but I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet. I'd like to see your video on that and then compare notes after I talk to him.
I have these clubs bought 1 month ago unlike your previous buyer saying he hits them shorter I found they added 30 yds to my game and they are forgiving I played Mizuno before and could never get these yardages now hit my PW 150 8 goes 170-180 and that’s a great club for my money be keeping these for sure
Spin, distance and trajectory are likely more related to loft than anything mentioned. We know the Mizuno and TM irons are strong loftedmwith themotion of even stronger lofts on fitting. Folks that believe in buying a game will continue to buy the higher priced gear. One last thing, when you start off with "i'm not going to lie", it suggests that you tend to and up to us to figure out when. I'd drop that tag line.
Great video. I wish these guys who reviewed the Kirkland irons told us there handicap and ball? Iam lefty and can’t find them in Canada as of yet? Would love to see in a future video golf watch vs range finder. I have both but use my garmin S62 over my laster.
Not an expert but didn't have the same issues with the golf balls. I'm sure Costco doesn't want to take an L on any of its product's but Im sure they are not too concerned about Taylormade bringing a lawsuit. To the issue of price there are alot of new companies building some really good equipment you just have to do your homework. The big names are taking the little guy out the game. Cheers
These aren’t manufacturers and part of the problem is neither are the major brands. Others are manufacturing for them. My reaction would be to try and bring more in house.
100% bother. These are fantastic clubs. I was using Callaway apex irons & the kirkies are way smoother than the apex. I 100% recommend. To find out how far the go just go practice your yardages simmples
Why driver, driver? You are testing irons and you spoke about “gapping”. That would have been a great opportunity to hit back to back different irons into that par 5 to test your earlier gapping comment. Who cares if they are a little “shorter” than 790s. As long as the gapping is consistent, they are solid irons. Higher ball flight, check. Higher spinning, check. Consistent gapping??? Just my $0.02. Keep up the great content, sir.
Hi Alex, I’m not 100% sure, but I believe I heard when Taylormade brought out the P790. There was a law suite against Taylormade for infringing on a patent of PXG. The law suite went away,so I . imagine Taylormade wrote a big check. Maybe something you could look into, for curiosity sake.
I would never play Kirkland anything. I am too invested in my game and serious about it. But they sure can make whatever they want and I recognize they have a place in the hacker market.
My understanding (from reading other views and from friends who have used them) is that the rest of the KS range is all aimed at a fat part of the bell curve regarding player skill, with forgiveness being a noticeable factor. 80-90% of the subjective performance for 50% of the cost. The irons are far less approachable than the wedges or driver. They are serious muscle backs that need a high swing speed and an accurate strike to perform well. The player who could take advantage of the driver and wedges wouldn't have the skill to make the best use of the irons. Just my limited understanding, so take it with a heaping pile of salt.
2000 dollar irons 650 dollar drivers and 100 dollar green fees are not going to bring people to the game in fact it’s going to drive some people away from the game who have been playing for years!
It the same court case as Gibson and Japanese guitar makers, Taylormade will loose. Wouldn't swap my Titleist zm-b or Maruman irons for either of them and they're ancient but better quality than both of them.
I'm not positive but I don't think Kirkland is paying out hundreds of millions of dollars to sponsor tour pros or run commercials to promote their clubs. They would probably have to charge $1500 for a set if they did! But they sure are getting a lot of free marketing on TH-cam!
Why are we even watching talking or considering any Kirkland / Costco anything when you can’t get em in the U S and they don’t even have them on their website. This must be a U K thing..
Good god he is a nonstop talker. BTW I like this guy BUT, if I bought a set of these I would check the loft and lie. (I have a machine that I’ve had for about 10 years now. You didn’t do a great job of analyzing when reviewers are bringing up basic things like distances between Kirkland irons and jpx 923s, the obvious answer is his 923s have stronger lofts, easily accounting for the distance loss, and you should’ve brought that up. Otherwise all you’re doing is just repeating was repeating reviews and it’s totally uninteresting.
Clubs for customers not pros. Doesn’t matter if it’s 1 or 2 degrees off. Amateurs can’t tell the difference and certainly can’t hit an iron like a pro. Good for beginners. Long time players have their preferences. It’s supposed to be a deal for their members. Like their hot dogs. Kirkland Quality is good enough. If a guy is wanting to be a pro he will buy accustom set of irons. Not P790s. They are for Saturday wanna be’s.
Alex at 2:34 you are literally not reading what the reviewer said, his set was $200 MORE than the K sig. #payattentionmate
😂😂 that's what I thought
Taylormade is worth 2 billion and Kirkland/Costco is worth 65 billion. I think Costco will be fine
Costco’s market cap is actually $365B
Yeah not sure what “trouble” anyone thinks Costco will be in. They could buy TaylorMade and bury it for eternity 😂
Those cutaways did not look like they were built the same way... I saw a big difference in the build. There's only so much you can do to build an iron.. all of them are going to have some similarities.. I think this shouldn't even be a lawsuit.
Are they suing Takomo, Caly, Ram, and all other hallow bodies?
I think it’s the filling …. Not the fact they are hollow… my sub70 699 pro’s are hollow but are filled with resin not foam
@@jameshopcroft8743 let’s be real though, they are all copies of others.
Costco have got lots of money to settle with. Whereas the smaller guys don't.

Alex, loft specs would be useful as would shaft component
7:35 the jpx irons are ridiculously juiced so it’s not really fair to look at distances when the 5 in a normal set is the 7 or 8 in that set

I’m not sure you need any spin for a ball to roll back down a hill. Gravity is sufficient.

Of course it will lose 10 yds... Jpx 923s are low spin rocket launcher shovels with lofts intended for slow people.
You do realize some people need more height and spin and they don’t care about distance lol that’s exactly who these clubs are for
The lawsuit is great PR for both sides.
I have a question about the Callaway mini. How far down will the loft go? I don’t need the higher lifts but love the smaller heads.
The compression on Costco Balls are inconsistent. Plenty of surprises in every sleeve.

I was wondering if that head cover was going to take a swim 😂🤣
Glad you saved it 👍🏻👍🏻
Try again. You are almost there
Dr.'s, Lawyers and Insurance agents buy the expensive new clubs. The rest look for good deals on used stuff !
Can I buy the Kirkland irons off yoy
I would never buy any Kirkland golf gear. I want the best performance. Which means I only play custom fitted clubs.
Takomo caley ...go get these and nicer looking and will be better made 👍
Look at that cut profile between the two irons. Not even close. There's no way TM has a case.
Who cares about Kirkland, Takomo is better and it isn’t even close
If taylormade didn’t pay their ‘athletes’ so much money they could reduce their price. Probably wouldn’t sell much though.
I'd buy a Lab putter knockoff from Kirkland for $199 if they made one.
