    The Astros secret sauce has to be in its farm system, coaching players to perform at its best. As an Astros fan, I courage the Yankees and other teams to try this. You can only pay for so many $300m players.

    • @howardbaxter2514
      @howardbaxter2514 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I mean, the Rays do that as well, but they always trade away their star minor league players. I say this as a Durham Bulls fan (Tampa’s Triple A Affiliate). Montgomery and Durham consistently win games and championships, and produce high quality players for the Rays. But the Rays organization is inept and always decides to trade those players away.

    • @krcjayhawks
      @krcjayhawks ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The Yankees typically have a solid farm system. I don't think they've done a good job utilizing it the past couple seasons, but there's no doubt that they put a lot of emphasis on the farm system.

    • @labradoodle28
      @labradoodle28 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't mean that other teams don't have farm system. What's underneath the hood and makes the major team more successful? I'd be very interested in videos/content/commentary what the teams are doing on their farm system, what makes the MLB team successful. It's much more interesting me to see progress on farm/minors to majors than X team paid $XXX million trade. Are teams bringing the same analytics/coaching/support on the minor/farm level?

    NY can complain about 2017 all they want, but in the 4 games in Houston they averaged LESS than 1 run a game. Tough to beat a team when you can barely score.
    Not to mention they averaged 8-9 runs a game for the games in NY. A fairly suspicious difference in scoring at home vs on the road but I’m sure it’s probably a coincidence.

    • @cassianandor4103
      @cassianandor4103 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Exactly lol. They complain about the astros cheating in '17, and yet they stay quiet about that massive gap in OPS for the yanks at home vs away during the ALCS, plus the huge difference in runs scored. On top of that they ignore the now unsealed letter that proves the yankees also had a system for telling their hitters what pitch was coming which means it proves they were cheating at least as hard as the astros.
      And the thing most yankee fans don't wanna admit or hear is that the astros stopped cheating in the 2017 postseason anyways which means the astros were not even stealing signs against the yankees.

We were a different team in the 1st half and after the break they just started spiraling down, almost loosing a 16 game lead in the division. The difference between the current Yankees ballclub and the one that dominated in the late-'90s...those dominant Yankees teams checked their egos at the door. I'm a Blue Jays fan but I always had tremendous respect for what those Yankee teams were doing. Bernie Williams, Paul O'Neill, Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Andy Pettitte, Mariano Rivera, they were talented ballplayers but they also played collective as a unit. They didn't produce spectacular numbers individually, but they didn't have to. COLLECTIVELY, like I said, they just flatout dominated. But they were a team that, even if you weren't a Yankees fan, you couldn't help but watch because they were just so damn good in every way. The current Yankees ballclub is good, a playoff lock every season....but they HAVEN'T been great like those past Yankee teams. That's because the Houston Astros are the team that's been playing GREAT in the American League( albeit, they still have but 1 championship with their current lineup to show for it but they could be on the verge of winning another championship shortly ). The Astros have been the class of the American League( even if their success has been 'shrouded' in controversy at times ), while the Yankees have been constantly chasing the Astros but haven't come close to catching or surpassing the Astros. And that may not change either anytime soon.

They had missed the playoffs and the fans weren't happy with their plan to try to participate in revenue sharing again by keeping payroll down. I see them going on to win the World Series pretty comfortably against the Phillies, being honest probably in 5 maybe 4 games. As for the Yankees tho I feel like the front office is to blame more then anything. They have failed to evolve with the game over the decade and it’s exposed horribly anytime they are able to have a postseason run. Each shortcoming as mentioned in the video, they’ve been beat by a better run, better coached, and better developed team. @AggieEric97 ปีที่แล้ว +4

     @Kevin M The move to the AL wasn't what changed it for the Astros -- that was the change in ownership (that happened at the same time). Jim Crane bought the team from Drayton McClane. McClane ran the team on a similar philosophy to the NYY -- he overpaid for players late in their career who had less production in them than they had years on their contract (Carlos Lee). When Crane bought the team, the move to the AL was part of the deal forced in by the MLB -- sort of like an open roof. Crane hired Lunow and they stripped it down fully and rebuilt from the ground up -- good drafts (except for most of the pitchers that were taken in the first round) and high quality player development.
    Right now, the Yordan Alvarez trade is trending towards the best in the history of the franchise, right behind the Jeff Bagwell trade. If Alvarez plays a HOF career for the Astros, then it could be the best trade ever made by the Astros. In both cases, the Astros got an amazing slugger for a good pitching arm that had a little bit of production left in them. In the case of Alvarez, we sent the Dodgers the reliever that would give up key home runs to the Astros in game 2 of the World Series in Dodger Stadium. So, we won that trade twice.

    The yankees are learning the hard way you can't just buy championships anymore. With analytics and alot of the other moneyball concepts ruling baseball nowadays you have a lot of teams with smaller payrolls being able to be almost as good as the higher payroll teams, cuz alot of these smaller market teams have been able to get quality young playera for cheap, either through trades or just good scouting. This means the yankees can't just buy their way to better teams anymore. I mean they barely scraped by the Cleveland guardians (a team with a fraction of the yankees payroll) and only did so because of a rain delay where Nestor was gifted an extra day of rest lol.

    The Astros have more pitching depth than any other team in baseball. They simply do not have a weak link in that lineup. Combined with a very solid offence, It’s not that surprising that they swept the Yanks.

  • @Gopper_Gaming-MLBTheShow

    Good video for sure. Honestly, I think the Yankees broke themselves over time. I'm not a Yankees fan by any means, and I was definitely one that thought of them as the "Evil Empire" forever before that turning into the Astros after the scandal. However, as a baseball fan in general... it's easy to see their flaws and where they went wrong too.
    For me, their turning point was the Stanton trade and how they handled their entire outfield debacle, and... how they are one of a few teams that still rely on "buying the best player" instead of fully developing, and more so trusting, their own talent. When it comes to the Stanton deal, that's what did it though. They didn't want to give up Torres to get Yelich in return, so instead, they just took on Stanton while already having their own Stanton in Aaron Judge (power righty right-fielder). In my mind, what this did was made them very righty-heavy in the middle of the lineup... and very beatable by a good, well located slider. For Torres, they could have ended up with an outfield of Yelich, Hicks, and Judge while having a deadly lefty and righty combo in the middle of their lineup. Instead, they ended up with both Judge and Stanton while also refusing to deal Frazier at the pique of his value, instead being forced to release him for nothing later. Now, they're in a situation where they probably want to keep Judge, but they also know they have Stanton under contract as well.
    The Astros are owning teams because they are well balanced, so it's tough to pitch against them. You have guys like Altuve, Bregman, Gurriel, and now Pena from the right side while also having to deal with guys like Yordan and Tucker from the left side... all hitting for both contact and power. Then, that's paired with Verlander and their other homegrown talent in the rotation which also dominated the league. They have great minor league development, which allows them to compete while also trusting their farm system, which is arguably the biggest factor in a teams' success now because you can avoid the giant contracts that hold a franchise down long term... like those of Cole and Stanton. That's why the Astros could let a guys like Correa and Springer go while knowing they had Pena and Tucker to replace them.
    Believe me, I hate praising the Astros... I'm a Mariners fan. But, that's also why I never feared playing the Yankees this year... they are easy to beat with the right pitching, which the Mariners have. The Astros were the ones I feared most, and it proved to be true. The way to do things now is to development elite young talent and lock them in long term... look at the JRod, Acuna Jr, Austin Riley, Wander Franco... look at those deals. They are paying them the most for their early 20's to 30ish years. And, compare that to the Yankees, where they are paying their ace in Cole and Stanton until they are both 38 years old... well past their prime. This is why I think the Yankees are going to decline, and I think it's already happening.
    Just my two cents.

Either way, there wasn't even a thought in your response to respond to, so that's cool. So, my turn... I'm going to assume that since you read all of my post and all that came out of it was the fact that I'm a Mariners fan and you had to revert to calling me something that was an insult (I think? I mean, bigoot would be cool if he ended up being real)... that you are a Yankees fan that just can't handle the truth about his franchise's future. I wasn't even hating on the Yankees franchise... I just simply pointed out some turning points in their history and how it put them where they are now, and, why the way they do things is bad for their long-term success.

    Astros fan here. What I will say is that the Astros have done a much better job of staying healthy this year than they have in most recent years, aside from losing Brantley of course. We have always dreamed of how unstoppable this team could be if they could make it to the playoffs with everyone healthy, and it appears that that dream is finally coming to life. The Yankees, on the other hand, seemed to have dealt with a fair number of injuries this year, but pulled it together just enough to get into the ALCS, where they needed more luck than they could reasonably ask for. Yes, they still have some healthy big bats and some great arms, but I feel like they would have presented a better challenge had they been as healthy as the Astros have. Perhaps the result would’ve still been the same, but I can sympathize with the Yankees that much.
