Lol I was at the airport when 9/11 happened. Our flight was cancelled as all planes were grounded. Nobody was upset there, people were so fucking angry. I remember this one man shouting angrily WHY THE FUCK IS JUST SOME THING THAT HAPPENED IN AMERICA STOPPING MY FLIGHT TO MALAGA?! I WANT REFUNDS AND COMPENSATION! Everybody was just pissed the fuck off that their travel plans were disrupted saying that bad things and terrorist attacks happen somewhere in the world all the time, it shouldn't affect us, this is just another day. It's ironic now thinking that considering there were multiple planes and it was an ongoing attack, they were wanting to get on a plane so badly which also could have been hijacked and flown into the Houses of Parliament or the Shard or something. It was an attack against everything Britain stands for, not just America. I also can't blame them really, they probably felt bad afterwards about how they acted. I was obviously upset for not getting to go on holiday to Portugal because I was a kid. And growing up seeing horrible things happening in the world on the news it doesn't really resonate, you can never something like that happening to your own place, then only 3 years later the 7/7 terrorist attacks happened in London... You realise shit gets real.

Not sure about that Ethan, as I understand the fort that was been shelled by the Royal Navy, Fort Sumta in South Carolina, withstood the bombardment and when the Royal Navy withdrew as they knew they weren't getting anywhere. The USA flag was seen fluttering in the smoke and the anthem arose from that. So let's call it a tactical withdrawal. 🇬🇧🇺🇸 In 2021 we stand together. Those that signed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 probably wouldn't believe what we've done together especially in the 20th century.
"At the Queens request".....Wow!! That statement alone tells you all you need to know about her Majesty. A true lady of class she sets a very very high bar. Just knowing what the song is about, and STILL tells them to play it.
You don't understand. That is how Monarch's orders are couched. It is referred to as a 'request', but in actual fact it was an order as she was the Head of the Armed Forces. When you are sent to prison in the UK you are sentenced "At Her Majesty's Pleasure".
And if anything happens to them over on their island I will gladly join my brethren on this side in support of the UK. I'll blare God Save the Queen and Rule Britannia until my ears are ringing.

@@marksawatzky8562 It is, I watched a video on it, I cannot remember the name of the song but it was sung by drunk English men prior to the US being formed and the anthem being created. Such a beautiful song traditional American values are the best. I hope your country keeps them and continues to be a shinning beckon for the world best wishes from Britain.
Our anthem was written during the war of 1812 when the US and the UK were fighting each other. That the Queen would respect us enough, knowing what the song was about, says all you need to know about her class, grace, and humanity. God bless her!
While the lyrics are literally about the Battle of Baltimore, the underlying message is simply that the United States will weather any hardship and survive. It's perfectly fitting for the moment.

The UK was created in 1707. The Queen and Coldstream Guards are of Scots decent. There was no rule preventing playing another nation's national anthem outside Buckingham Palace, which only started being built in 1703. As a Canadian I feel really a strong friendship with the United States. Our relationship with our neighbours to the South can be tempestuous sometimes LOL but we are true friends nevertheless- in fact I think we're family.
They’re straight up playing our anthem which was written based on a battle that we fought and beat them. Straight respect. 🇺🇸🤝🇬🇧
The lyrics were about a battle but the music was written by a British guy in London England.
Amazing to think that Britain played the US Anthem, considering the lyrics are from a poem written during the War of 1812 with Britain.

A nice gesture from Our Queen. I remember that infamous day, like it was yesterday. Hard to forget. God Bless all those innocent people.
Wtf are planes
George Washington
I remember that too. It was touching to many of us here in the US. (Even if it did make King George III turn over in his grave :))
Little gesture?
God bless them all
21 years later it's still brings tears to my eyes hearing the Star spangled banner played at Buckingham Palace following the 9/11 attacks........ With Queen Elizabeth Grace is gesture of having another nation anthem played on England soil speaks volumes to her enduring friendship with America...... And as an American we will always have an enduring friendship with the England
As a British ex-pat living in America, this video gets me every time. 😭
I came here right after her passing…This made me cry. She was such a beautiful soul and wonderful friend to the US
Your friends from across the pond thank you for sharing your light with us! Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, an extraordinary life well-lived.
I see tears from our brothers and sisters across the sea. America knows who stands with us and we will never forget .We stand United.
Such an incredibly classy woman. We won't see her like again among world leaders. Eternal rest grant unto her O Lord and may perpetual light shine upon her. 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
Look, we had problems as kids but Britain is that big brother that always has out back. I can't believe I've never seen this before. Beautiful.
Thank you Queen Elizabeth. We don’t have the monarchy anymore, but adore you and miss you already…. ♥️🇺🇸🇬🇧
Americans remember the kindness and empathy of the Queen and the people of Britain from this simple yet powerful gesture. You, our truest of friends. brought us to tears and made us feel loved and appreciated despite our pain. We will never forget it.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Thank you United Kingdom. 21 years later and this amazing gesture still touches my heart. RIP Your Majesty.
Who is watching today as her Majesty layed down gracefully to rest for good? Back in 2001 after all the turmoil in history between British and US, was such a moving gesture, I cried instantly today watching this.
Your over exaggerating this we weren't enemies with the UK when the twin towers fell down, by then we had been close allies for almost 100 years
1 of the most moving things ever. To the British on this sad September day I say thanks for sharing the greatest queen ever with us for the last 70 years.
We are sad with you. She will be greatly missed.
Amazing!!! I do love the Brits! Such a support for us in the USA! Thank you!!!!!!
Crying while watching this gesture today, 9/8/22. Thank you Queen Elizabeth. May you Rest In Peace.
For over 20 years, I've told people about this moment. I was living in NY in 2001, and we all tried to carry on as well we could in the days, weeks, and months following 9/11. We had the TV on, and I saw this when it was originally broadcast. It still completely chokes me up. Thank heaven, Peter Jennings was a classy guy, and wise enough to know when to NOT TALK, whereas so many TV news people would have talked over this moment. And God Save the Queen, and the British people, the best allies and friends one could ever hope for.
I'm from the UK. I was around 20 at 9/11. I can tell you, we felt what happened on that day, like it happened to us as well. If you're ever interested look up the British parliament (our government, politicians) reaction after 9/11. You can find it on youtube. Some of the most moving and rousing speeches you'll hear. Put it this way, our bayonets were being sharpened...
🇺🇸🇬🇧🫡
So true about Peter Jennings
Rest in paradise sweet lady. She was full of grace and class.
The Queen was an incredible human being. She had power, we know, but her strength was unpassable. She was also kind. She showed this many ways and although always at duty, she was passionate about life. I miss her. She was my Queen, and I love her still.
I am an American, and when I heard the news of her passing I cried as though she were the president of the United States, she quietly commanded respect because she did not need to push, she is loved by both countries and I am not sure we will see another like her.
That makes my heart swell with pride to hear our Anthem played in the U.K. at the Queen's request... like everyone else I am deeply saddened at her death. She truly was a constant and a very positive constant.
May she Rest In Peace 🇬🇧
To my brothers and sisters across the sea...thank you for being there with us despite our fuckups. We love you!
Breaking a 600year old tradition of the Royal Palace! Very touching and heartfelt. RIP Queen Elizabeth, thoughts and prayers to the Royal Family from America.
No such tradition existed. The UK has only existed since 1707, when England ceased to be a sovereign state, alongside Scotland. It's a Myth. The British military has only existed since 1650, when the Coldstream Guards came down from Scotland to guard the King, Charles II, son of James VI. Both Stewarts (Stuart)
Thanks for that gesture. RIP Elizabeth.
In Scottish, living in Canada, and shed a tear every time I hear that anthem.
As an American it means a lot to see our friends and brother on the other side of the pond supporting and waving our flag, God bless England and God bless America. This really means a lot to me personally
England? What about Scotland, the Province of Northern Ireland and the Principality of Wales. England isn’t the United Kingdom and the United Kingdom isn’t England. You still don’t, and never will, get it.
As much as I grieve for America’s losses where was that country when London was bombed by the Luftwaffe for 70+ consecutive nights with the loss of over 40,000 of its citizens.
I cried for the Queen. I’m not British, I’m a US Citizen through and through but the loss of someone who cared this much, and is a caring person just in general, deserves to be remembered for her service to her country. A mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother was lost, and that alone in general is hard to watch. I just hope as Americans, we’d be this caring for another country who may go through this much pain. Thank you and may you Rest In Peace.
She was a great monarch & we genuinely loved her dearly....🙁
🇬🇧🇺🇲
This the first and only time a Foreign Anthem outside the Palace. The honour was given to the US, our greatest ally
Thanks to our cousins across the pond.
Thank you UK for standing with us! We will NEVER forget!!!🙏❤️🇺🇲🇬🇧
Man! I had no idea she ordered this be done but it makes sense. Our "special relationship." God save and bless the Queen."
That was powerful. Literally brought a tear to my eye.
@Hello there, how are you doing this blessed day?
Feels appropriate to wait till the anniversary of this horrific in my country’s history, but I want my British friends to know how much we are sorry for your loss of such a beloved monarch. Her stoicism commanded respect and awe in a room, yet she was always open to a wicked sense of humor that made her so adored. She wasn’t our leader, nor are we a part of the Commonwealth that she held dearly, yet she showed her strength in being a rock of comfort for those stranded Americans in a time of anguish and confusion, demonstrating that her thoughts were with our country during our suffering.
Don’t know if we could ever extend such a powerful message of comfort like she has, but wanted our British friends to know that it felt like we too lost someone who was like a family. As an American I will forever be grateful to her for comforting my fellow Americans, and reminding us that the British do cate for us. God Bless QEII.
lovely words. i’ll be honest i didn’t think it would hit me when she died but when you have a constant in your life and then it’s taken away it really shakes your foundations as well you know. As a Brit we are lucky to have had a great queen and such a great friend in America. 🇬🇧🇺🇸
@@jodu626 Granted,as an American, we don't feel what you feel, but as friends, we share in your sorrow. God save the Queen.
Speaking as an American, this is why I quite happily sang 'God Save the King' during my lunch while watching the Service of Thanksgiving on Friday.
I was reminded of this today. I recalled that I had no particular affinity whatsoever for England, and especially the royal family, but this moment gave me tremendous respect for the Queen and all of the UK.
All these years later, this still brings a tear to my eye.
This is amazing to see that another country is such a good ally, to help the people that were stuck in the United Kingdom as for doing something like this, words cannot express how great full I am for Queen Elizabeth 2 and the United Kingdom, Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth 2, you will be missed and you were a great person.
😢Here it is 2021, and I'm watching this in Las Vegas with tears! God Bless Queen Elizabeth!!❤️
The Queen was truly a special lady! Rest In Peace!
One of the many reasons this American mourns the loss of Queen Elizabeth.
This hits me in the feels every time I see it, even 20+ years later.
