A note on the pictures, when the German music corps plays the US anthem. You can see that the then Federal President Joachim Gauck can hardly hold back his emotion. It is important to know that Joachim Gauck was a pastor in the former GDR before reunification 1991 and belonged to the civil rights movement. He was not a "professional politician," and he certainly never dreamed that he would one day receive the U.S. president in Berlin as the highest representative of the Federal Republic of Germany (!). My favorites were the American and the German versions for different reasons. Germany played it perfectly, beautiful tone, tempo was spot on, and phrasing was great. The American version I love the balance of instruments and how you can hear every single part cut through. The tempo was too fast for my taste though and the phrasing was a little off but still not bad. I’ve got heritage from both the US and Germany so I’m glad to see these do well.
USA: Trumpets sound breathless Germany: Perfect China: Drums are bothering me Russia: Even worse drums UK: Lotta drums France: why the drums tho India: Why does it sound like the band is playing next door? Philippines: Lotta distracting noise Syria: My ears are bleeding Saudi Arabia: Star spangled banner kazoo edition
When marcos visit USA 1982 our anthem is not loud like Star spangled banner. And that time we played that is called poor era of philippines corrupt era panot era
You have to give the UK bonus points, because the anthem was conceived while British cannons were firing and they accompany their rendition with British cannons.
I agree with the comments, the Germans are definitely the best. The Brits, Russians, and Chinese played good too. Philippines and India were okay-ish. Saudi and Syria were just showing off their kazoos
Germany: sounded great; 10/10 China: bonus points for the salute Russia: couldn't hear it well enough, unfortunately UK: old-timey cannons are rad; best uniforms France: echo did them no favors India: poor acoustics; sounded flat Philippines: too slow, but at least there was a salute Syria: very thoughtful to protect Bill from the sun Saudi Arabia: why did I buy a dedicated sound card, again?
I feel like Germany was the best, if you know the lyrics, you can 100% hear them in your head. Also it was so smooth like I couldn't hear them miss a single beat.
i feel like a lot of people in the comments don't understand that germany had the best quality recording, the others were just super compressed. if the others weren't so compressed, id say they would also have a chance
My Feedback for different Countries playing US Anthem Philippines - Slow and Solemn (Nevermind that Cannon) Russia - Fast but not that Fast China - Not that Bad tho UK - Fantastic France - Kinda like US Navy Version India - Not that bad too Syria - Kinda Reminds me Palestine's Version Saudi Arabia - Needs improvement Germany - As Bundeswehr play every anthem, its Wünderbar
I am a musician. Have played in ensembles for 20 years (not military). I would say the States had the most musicality in their rendition. The french one would have been great if the audio compression wasn't horrendous. Right after the States, I'd have to give it to Germany. The Germans usually have a high caliber of musicians.
The US did obviously very well, but I think the tempo was a bit off and it lacked pronunciation and expression. Think the Germans did better here, actually, though they had a bit of a messy start. Well, for some definitions of messy, I suppose.
I agree with you! I’m a little surprised at the love shown to the Germans here. Their “rockets’ red glare” bit was lovely, no doubt; but the beginning was a mess, and I found some parts too slow. The US band was so crisp, start to finish, and while it was a bit fast, they understood that they were not in a concert hall. I bet the presidents who are standing around listening to these appreciate brevity. It was respectful, but understood it was not the main attraction. The German one was a little too rich, in my opinion, for a situation that should be more business-like. I guess it goes to show that if you finish strong no one will remember how you started!
The German band plays it the best without a doubt! They played it much better than the USA, and for me played it even better with a more majestic melody than England did.
My choice was: France, Philippines... and Germany out of race, because of the sound-quality :) I am sure: Whereever we would meet in a studio, makgik, we would listen the same way:) Thank you for your comment.
I cannot re-list all the bands but I rate China and Germany at the top. I would say that USA would be a distant 5th or 6th. As one of the commenters stated that the acoustic were a bit off for alot of the renditions!
US - Normal Germany - Professional China - Middle school band Russia - High school band England - Medieval band France - Bass boosted India - Distamt or muffled, I can't tell Philippines - Bland Syria - *Distortion 100* Saudi Arabia - Elementary school band
@@matthiascheah3519 Fifes certainly were used originally in military bands but that's definitely a piccolo with that tone. You can hear that it's a very clean and precise sound, a fife sounds a lot more woody and hollow than that!
They all played it well. The big difference is in the recording quality. Also, some of the versions were cut short. All of the "pop stars" who bend our anthem beyond recognition could take a lesson from this video. If bands from countries other than the U.S.A can play it correctly and with respect why can't they?
@garygreen7552, the “pop stars” are attempting to but their personal touches not understanding the significance of the song while the military bands are trying to show respect to a visiting dignitary and his/her country plus make their country proud!
You mean when they sing it with a vocal run? I hate that so much lmao. I agree with what you said. I wish they'd just sing the anthem traditionally and from the heart instead of showing off their vocals. I never liked that style of singing anyways, it feels too overused now. It's impressive and takes skill, but when every other singer does it, it's just boring.

Here’s my two cents worth, not that anyone is even going to see this, let alone care haha My background - I’m a music major from Australia studying in the US. I’ve been playing in wind bands for a while and like to think I’m pretty decent at it. I’m not going to try to rate them because there are too many other things that vary between the performances - sound quality / mic placement, arrangement, background noise, the list goes on. America - I quite like the faster tempo and the balance in the ensemble. A bit less keen on the dynamics in measures 17-24 - I prefer it when that section starts quieter so they can crescendo into the last bit. Germany - exactly what I expected from Germany. Pin point precision, good balance, stone cold. I feel like it was let down by the arrangement though. Some of the chord voicing just felt a bit over egged, and the parallel thirds at 2:01 ish don’t sound right at all. Also why do they play around with the tempo so much? China - good college band level. Nice to hear prominent saxes but could have used more melody. This could have been a mic placement thing to be fair. Not impressed by the percussionist playing about a quarter of a beat behind. Russia - good high school band level. Scruffy and not in tune but nice tempo. UK - my personal favourite. Almost flawless timing and tuning, and I got chills from their crescendo into “oh say does that”. The low brass were clearly enjoying it, but not to the extent that it drowned out the melody. Woefully let down by recording quality but I can tell they played well. France - full of spirit. I wish we got more of it. Shame about intonation India - the start made me nervous but they warmed up into it. Another potentially decent performance ruined by dodgy audio. Philippines - US anthem at UK anthem tempo. Not terrible apart from that. I liked their arrangement - it’s slightly different in the middle. Syria - I’m at a bit of a loss here. I get that Syria might not have much of a tradition of this kind of military band and diplomatic considerations are never far away, but… wow. First step would be to sort out balance - that would help a whole lot. Saudi Arabia - very wayward tuning and crying out for some proper bass. There’s only so much you can do with a tenor sax in that register. Rhythm surprisingly on point.
China’s was kinda a let down. I don’t listen to military bands a lot (I’m not in a band myself) so I don’t know their standards, but considering that they can actually play violin, cello and piano etc quite well, it was kinda a let down to hear them playing the US anthems so plainly
Kimchi I was wondering that actually. I’ve heard other recordings of the Chinese military band and this performance isn’t in the same league. Diplomatic thing maybe?
@@inept3623 not sure. Might be, cos the US president in the vid is trump and we all know they have a bad diplomatic relationship lol.
Same. Also of German ancestry

Germany by far, wow, the notes are so clear!
They did it very well of course, it sounds the best / most clear because the microphones are the best there though lol 😂.
Likely recording, the others are really old and compressed
Why did the Germans play better than the Americans 😂

As a American, I would have to go with America and Germany 🇩🇪 🇺🇸
USA: Trumpets sound breathless
Germany: Perfect
China: Drums are bothering me
Russia: Even worse drums
UK: Lotta drums
France: why the drums tho
India: Why does it sound like the band is playing next door?
Philippines: Lotta distracting noise
Syria: My ears are bleeding
Saudi Arabia: Star spangled banner kazoo edition
When marcos visit USA 1982 our anthem is not loud like Star spangled banner. And that time we played that is called poor era of philippines corrupt era panot era
The Philippines is a loud one because it's tradition in our country to fire a gun salute, in this case, it's a 40 mm gun being fired.
@@laudeinvicta7113 It's the same case for China, that's not drums, that's a gun salute.
I think you mean the cymbals not drums
*Philippines Hverdagen not Phililipines
You have to give the UK bonus points, because the anthem was conceived while British cannons were firing and they accompany their rendition with British cannons.
The melody was originally British, from "The Anacreontic Song" (aka "To Anacreon in Heav'n").
Those cannons are actually field guns used in WW1
With lots of drum right? ;)
The anthem (not including the words) was made in England 🏴.
You are correct. Hard to believe they added the cannons themselves!
I agree with the comments, the Germans are definitely the best. The Brits, Russians, and Chinese played good too. Philippines and India were okay-ish. Saudi and Syria were just showing off their kazoos
Germany: sounded great; 10/10
China: bonus points for the salute
Russia: couldn't hear it well enough, unfortunately
UK: old-timey cannons are rad; best uniforms
France: echo did them no favors
India: poor acoustics; sounded flat
Philippines: too slow, but at least there was a salute
Syria: very thoughtful to protect Bill from the sun
Saudi Arabia: why did I buy a dedicated sound card, again?
I respect all the styles they used
No one cares about ur reviews , u shud be thankful that these countries gave a Fck and played it!

I give my vote to Germany; they had superior instruments and the arrangement was stunning. Sehr Schön!
I feel like Germany was the best, if you know the lyrics, you can 100% hear them in your head. Also it was so smooth like I couldn't hear them miss a single beat.
As a filipino, i liked ours but i must admit, Germany did a really good job
your guy's version is actually pretty good, top 3 for me
But Philippines was slow?
I feel like we butchered it with those unnecessary popcorns in the background.
I feel like someone died while we're playing the national anthem of the United States, it sounded more like a friggin' funeral anthem
JESUS I-
I'm impressed by the German's military band you can actually hear the notes and how well they play it🙌🏼💯 RESPECT!.
Have to give props to Germany for their attention to dynamics and overall musical composition.
Germany's version damn near made me cry it was so clean
i feel like a lot of people in the comments don't understand that germany had the best quality recording, the others were just super compressed. if the others weren't so compressed, id say they would also have a chance
Most people can't think past their nose the older I get the more I realize most humans are not that intelligent.
The Chinese one is pretty good, and has actual cannon fire which is very fitting for the song
No top notch audio equipment can save you from being out of tune and a bad musician.
Very true for the French recording which suffered from saturation.
All I know is my hs marching band played better then the latter 3. Instead of cannons we used fireworks, and it still sounded better
My Feedback for different Countries playing US Anthem
Philippines - Slow and Solemn (Nevermind that Cannon)
Russia - Fast but not that Fast
China - Not that Bad tho
UK - Fantastic
France - Kinda like US Navy Version
India - Not that bad too
Syria - Kinda Reminds me Palestine's Version
Saudi Arabia - Needs improvement
Germany - As Bundeswehr play every anthem, its Wünderbar
I thought the UK cymbals sounded tinny. Swap them out for whatever brand the US uses.
Syria sounds a bit like kazoos
@@allenabel3471 that would be because of the badly places microphone or audio recording. Usually the cymbals wouldn’t be as noticeable
The German army made a lot of the best marching music aswell, Beethoven himself had also composed music for their army,
"Yorckscher Marsch" is absolute perfection.

German military band is the best. Love to Germany and its citizens from India.
As an American the best one out of all of these is the Germans, it sounded perfect
Germany did well, so yes.
1. Germany
2. Philippines was fine I guess
3. France
This is top three on my opinion
My choice was: France, Philippines... and Germany out of race, because of the sound-quality :) I am sure: Whereever we would meet in a studio, makgik,

The Phillippines version played it best. Much emotion.

I love the flute or piccolo addition to England’s rendition

Very in tune with the rest of the band. It was really nice.
Fire wood, nothing more...
As a piccolo player I can confirm its a piccolo! It has a lot more of a hollow and woody tone than a standard flute
Bro my High school band could play this better than a couple of them
@garygreen7552, the “pop stars” are attempting to but their personal touches not understanding the significance of the song while the military bands are trying to show respect to a visiting dignitary and his/her country plus make their country proud!
It was extremely ironic for Britain to play The Star-Spangled Banner
If you're going to be claiming because of 1776, then 1812 wants to have some words

Incredible, Germany's effort in music is incredible as always.
Germany’s rendition is closest to perfect tempo, dynamics and cadence. Bravo
The German military band is know to be one of the best in the world. There‘s no doubt!
Here’s my two cents worth, not that anyone is even going to see this, let alone care haha
My background - I’m a music major from Australia studying in the US.
Shame about intonation
India - the start made me nervous but they warmed up into it.
Yes
The Syrian band was not as out of tune as the infamous Egyptian band performing the Russian national anthem. But it was still painful to listen to.
I had several violin Teachers who were form China and they played rlly well, so I don’t see why these ppl can’t play well in the band either. It’s probably diplomatic thing
