when he says "it actually took 6 years" it makes you really appreciate the work that went into the movie. it took 6 years to create this masterpiece. even if you didn't personally like the movie, you have to give some appreciation. it only takes a minute for you to criticize this film, but in reality no one will ever understand what and how this movie touches lives in small and monumental ways. not to mention the work, the time, the vision and the dream that made it possible. so if you did not enjoy the movie, for whatever reason that is, have the decency to admit that your opinion is not all that matters. and ryan, and emma and john and Damien all deserve much commendation for being able to put this masterpiece together. they deserve respect. And they have absolutely earned every ounce. la la land is beautiful.

Easily the most profound,beautiful,heartfelt,poetic and mesmerizing film I have seen in a long time. From start to finish, I was enthralled between the performances(give them the fucking oscar now),score and overall music as well as cinematography and design. I have never been so inspired in my life.
Emma Stone has a beautiful mixture of introvert and extrovert. She has a similar funny bone to JLaw but Stone has an awkwardness and goofiness that is so funny and natural. The two of them together however are lethal!!

My question would be about the ending - SPOILERS - were Mia and Seb really in love with each other or just a support system for each other when they needed it and once they didn't they drifted apart. If Mia could have it all - her dream and a lover, would she still pick her husband or Seb? I think she would pick her husband. Also, I think the modern era question the reporter asked was a good one - if I recall, no character used their smartphone to do anything but call each other during the entire movie - they didn't use any social media app or text.
I believe that they were in love with each other, but in the end they both eventually realized that in order to achieve both of their dreams and to be happy, they couldn't be together. If she could have it all, she would have Sebastian. That was the whole point of the montage being shown in the end. But in that montage, Sebastian doesn't end up owning the club shown in the ending sequence. Yes, they were both happy but he wouldn't have achieved his true dream explained throughout the whole film. That's why they both gave smiles to each other knowing that they have both succeeded.
It's a modern love story about Hollywood, so Mia will continue to stay with her husband and continue to have a love affair with Sebastian. It's unspoken at the end. They look at each other and know what's up.

From what I recall, I don't believe Sebastian had a desire to travel to Paris with Mia once she got the part in the end, so that's what led him to stay in L.A. and form the Seb's club because that's what Mia wanted for him anyway. So it was a win-win, but they simply couldn't have each other, and they both respected that.
Well, to be serious, Sebastian loved Mia but Mia did not love him the same way. Sebastian did the right thing in not holding Mia back from her dream. As they say, if you set them free and they don't come back, it really wasn't there. The ending is a story of unrequited love. Remember, it was Mia who broke up with Sebastian, as she felt a lot of jealousy or something not knowing where he was and what he was doing. It was Sebastian who snuck back to make a surprise romantic dinner.
It's the whole...What could have been. I think most people have that special person that got away, due to the struggle of that moment in life where you may have been on different paths. Saw it tonight, great production, great story.
Those faces Emma Stone did were a bit arrogant, and yes the questions were long and it reminded me that journalist who asked Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars last year, but Rayan in the other hand was much nicer and professional when he made it clear that they had so much champagne to answer these long questions

Basically, their love story does not apply to modern age love stories.
Some really dum questions asked! As for the 'modern era' question...people today need to be reminded of the importance of connection outside of social media and dating apps that too often we miss the simplicity of love and romance portrayed in bygone eras. Loved the movie.

There were problems, it's not perfect but so much of it was wonderful. The opening 10 minutes are enough to sell most people. It's a great film.
