Great video. There is also a PS4/Xbox One version of Vanquish as part of the Bayonetta & Vanquish 10th Anniversary Bundle with improvements such as 4K 60fps for PS4 Pro and Xbox One X. I believe it's on sale often as well.
Mirror's Edge is a great example of how a game doesn't need to be filled to the brim with "content" in order to be good. It's a game that can be beaten in just a few hours, yet I've probably spent 100+ hours on it over the years just because it's such a highly replayable game with solid gameplay fundamentals.
Every so often when I'm stressed and have a need to decompress, I come back to Tamriel to walk around and soak in the music and the scenery. Just walk around aimlessly until something happens. And then walk some more. Sometimes, I take Lydia with me. Sometimes, Serana. Maybe one of my save files has a reikling with me, and I pass the time seeing what he can do. Sometimes, I just go to my property and start planting.
I have to say I've really been enjoying the more general gaming culture type videos you have been doing lately, they have been really giving me a more positive outlook on gaming with their focus on just having a good time over the state of "modern gaming". Thank you man and keep it up
Thank you very much, that means a lot and is helpful to hear. I'm having a lot more fun just trying to talk about chill gaming stuff, rather than hyper focusing on FPS games. I still love the FPS space but like you mentioned, so much of that space has just turned into criticizing modern shortcomings. Again thanks, and cheers
I'd say the Max Payne series is probably my favorite "comfort game" series. The gameplay is so fun, especially in 3. Halo campaigns are another good choice
I finished the first one for the first time recently and is so good the only problem is that the adaptative difficulty is borked though, the rest Pretty awesome game!! I need to play the sequels lol
As much of a cliche as it is Skyrim will always be a comfort game of mine. Borderlands 2 as a close 2nd. Loved hearing yours! Vanquish was an instant Wishlist on steam for me.
For some weird reason Bloodborne has become my comfort game, even though I pretty much suck at gaming. In the past few years I've become somewhat okay at it and the game keeps bringing me joy. Trust me, the doll knows.
My comfort game will always be botw/totk. That game(and my switch) helped me through college and adulting so much. Putting on a Mac Miller record and playing smash with my wife next to me is also my happy place❤️
I've spent so many hours playing "stressful" games like Overwatch, Rainbow 6 Siege, Monster Hunter World and so on... I picked up Stardew Valley on a whim and it felt so relaxing. I have never played farming simulators before and now I see why it's one of the most played games on Steam. I love the chill genre and it's my escape when I want to relax after grinding on these stressful games.
Hey, I've found your channel through Splitgate videos, your also the chillest gaming channel I've watched by far, it's good to see gamers that aren't just complaining n whining about every new game that releases Splitgate, Minecraft, Roblox, n LittleBigPlanet was my comfort games
Thank you very much, I appreciate that. Are you pumped for Splitgate 2!? Splitty is such a good comfort game, really happy 1047 is cooking something new. Yo and LittleBigPlanet!!! What a great great choice. I need to go check those games out again, even though I think the user levels on the old ps3 ones had the servers shut down. Can't remember though. Cheers!
I think I’m a psycho cus I find comfort in Horror games. Such as DeadSpace. I like to be so freaked out and immersed I forget about all my life problems and am worried I’m about to be killed by a necromorph
Dead Space is a big one for me as well. I weirdly mellow out so much my heart rate actually lowers while playing it. Absolutely amazing, well-written games that are scary as hell while also just being fun to play.
This video hits the nails. Comfort games like Burnout Paradise, Mirrors Edge, Infamous, Marvel Spiderman, and AC Black Flag. Also I would add Simulations games like PC Build 1 and 2
yeah, kinda weird to see that on a list of comfor games 🤣 but ig it can be a comfort game for those who have mastered it to a point where they just feel good cruising through those games
The Dark Souls trilogy are my ultimate comfort games. After countless hours, i still keep coming back making new characters. I also really got into the Halo campaigns recently and they started to become another comfort zone I can keep coming back too.
We share quite a lot. My 4 main comfort game I'd say are the Trials games (HD, Evo and Fusion), Celeste (especially farewell), Dark Souls 1 and Half Life 1 All these game I'd consider myself having mastered a good amount, so going back to them now just feel so comforting knowing they were once a terrifying beast for me
Bought stardew valley for my wife so she could decompress after work. I took it over and now have like over 100 hours. Never thought I would be into a game like stardew but god damn do I love it.
Hey man, just discovered your channel. I really like your style of video. You keep it calm, while not giving up the excitement you have for certain things. Seems like you have many memories of the roughly the same times in gaming history as I do. What a treat. Please keep doing what you do, I look forward to more of your stuff in the future!
All of my most-played games are short story-driven games. Something that can be completed in just one sitting is my absolute favorite. They’re always more hand-crafted and so much more fun to replay. Despite never getting longer than around six hours, I don’t want to know many thousands of playthroughs I have in all the Halo games. Never gets old. And some longer ones like Dragon Age are so comforting for me, especially with how fundamentally queer the narrative feels. Dragon Age is like a safe haven for queer players like myself. Interactive stories are the best. I only buy like, one or two games a year because the old ones never lose their spark for me. Only games I’m planning on getting this year are Batman: Arkham Shadow and Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
Super meatboy is so much fun and so easy to just launch and play, and when you die it restarts so quickly you don´t even care that you died, it's amazing
LOVE Super Meat Boy! Planning to try the sequel any day now! As for comfort games, I usually go back to the Sonic or Mario franchises when I just want to destress. Actually taking a crack at 100%ing Sonic Heroes for the first time in between going through Dishonored ^_^ You've reminded me I should totally replay Celeste so I can get through that DLC chapter. Tried it when I came, but my skills atrophied something fierce since it had been years since I picked it up
Super Meat Boy lover here!! I love it for how simple it is. Hard, but simple. That’s what makes it so oddly comforting. That, and the feeling that eventually I can overcome it. Working on getting the dark world ending!
recently games like the persona franchise have become comfort games, specifically the modern day games , I enjoy their dungeon crawling and its slice of life elements, it has a relaxing feeling for me.
GTA Vice City - I played this game so many times, I probably know all the missions by heart now. However, I still love to boot up this game just to get in the car and drive around while listening to 80s music. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (any game in the series) - there's nothing like sitting around a campfire with other guys and one of them starts playing the guitar
The Mario Maker games are my comfort games. Love booting them up for a quick session. I downloaded over a thousand on my Wii U in SMM1 before Wii U online shut down.
For me comfort games are really anything that as you said (& I say often) are just "Gamey Games". They're not trying to be a 10/10 big budget thing & normally score 6-8/10 but they know what they are & embrace it. Most recently it was Pepper Grinder, Horizon Chase 2 & Streets of Rage 4 which I beat in about a week total. All great games that don't waste your time & have legs if you want to go back to 100% complete.
For those of you that have a Wii lying around somewhere and want a really videogamey game that's just stupid fun all the way through (even has a co-op mode): Sin & Punishment Star Successor. Your hands will hurt, but you'll feel like you're in an arcade just having an absolute blast.
I own Vanquish and Bayonetta for Xbox 360 [Physically] and Xbox One [ Bayonetta and Vanquish 10th Anniversary Remastered Bundle Steelbook Edition]. I bought both Bright Memory games [Plus DLC] on the Xbox Marketplace for half-off on March this year. I have Mirror's Edge and Mirror's Edge Catalyst, I didn't even pay for either because the 1st one, my ex-friend never came back for it and the 2nd one I got it at Gamestop for free because of the Buy2Get1Free deal. I haven't played Super Meat Boy in a long time, fun times!! Metal Gear Rising Revengeance is currently on my game search list. Vanquish, Mirror's Edge, Bright Memory, Bright Memory Infinite are definitely comfort games 💯.
You should give Risk of Rain 2 or Risk of Rain Returns a play. It was on sale during the summer sale, but ROR tends to go on sale fairly often. Its such a comforting game to play, with an amazing soundtrack to boot
You just showed in the video like 3/4 of my favourite games, damn. Some extra recommendations from my side that are dirt cheap on Steam are Ghostrunner and Binary Domain. Specifically the second one, it's insane!
Halo is my comfort game, also, since these are stressful times, I’m staying away from challenging games for my health and sanity, once the dark age is over, I’ll be catching up on my back catalog of games!
