I got Baldur's Gate 3 a couple months ago and I think it was only the 2nd time the game had gone on sale. Plus, that money saved basically paid for the Little Caesars pizza I got that night and had a 10-hour session. Something I'll never forget.

The whole Yakuza series. I passed on them forever because I thought they were just quirky open world games. Totally agree, in almost every case I wait around one full year before diving into a game these days, I get the complexity of today's advanced games and graphics but my time is limited and getting spun out over glitches, crashes, etc. is not how I want to spend my time looking for fixes/workarounds and perhaps ultimately hating the game before it has reached its potential.

Been doing this . Since games are 70+ dollars, that was my breaking point to say I’ll never buy a game above 50% off or more. 70 bucks is too much in this climate .
Great video! Older gamer here, 52. Love those older 360 games! Metro Exodus is one of my faves as well! Incredible game! Remember the 360 games were only 7-12 gigs? And they were amazing! 🎉
One thing that really ticks me off is content that is not available anymore: Stuff like events that have passed (like ff15 assassin festival, some event quests in monster hunter World etc) or pre-order/early purchase stuff that was never made available after that window
I have so many games I have no need to buy a new release and that is compounded by the fact games do not release finished and we don’t know how much it will change after a year of patches. So, I never pre-order I never buy day one, if I want a game I put it on my Steam wish list and wait for a Steam Sale.
I'll argue you should buy new games, but it's mainly for indies & Double A games. Games like Helldivers 2, Hell Let Loose, Deep Rock Galactic, Battlebit, and Vampire Survivor come to mind.
I basically just pay full price when I want to support good practices in game development. I don’t care what the size of the team or budget is. Elden ring was totally worth full price, as was Baldur’s Gate 3. On the other hand, Yakuza is one of my favorite series, but there is no way I’m paying full price for a game that had new game + and a dungeon cut out of it.
yes, and gems like baldurs gate 3 and elden ring deserve it too. As soon as i hear hero shooter, extraction whatever battle royale... I'm out. not for 60€, not for 20€ not even for free.
In the last ten years, I could count on one hand the games I bought day one or pre-ordered. Death Stranding, Armored Core VI, Baldur's Gate 3, System Shock remake, and Wayfinder Echoes. Developers who thoroughly demonstrated their level of quality, or who I support on principle. Haven't regretted a single purchase. LITERALLY everything else, I wait until it's 75% off in a couple years.
Yup last December I bought Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, Remnant2, Hi Fi Rush and RE4 Remake. All games that they were less than a year old and payed under 40 dollars per game. I can’t imagine paying 70 dollars a pop for all those games.
It’s a controversial take for me. When it comes to expense, it’s a no-brainer But when it comes to multiplayer, being there at the beginning can be really fun. However that varies from game to game In the case of elden ring, it was really fun imo to be there right at the start. Tons of action, and most players aren’t using meta builds. After a while, a lot of the pool of players dies down, and you get a lot of all-day grinders using maxed meta builds (which makes a BIG difference in elden Ring) Another example is split gate. Playing it now-you get mostly bots in the lobbies. I’d imagine it was really intense during the early days A game I did get on fast was the finals. It was fun, but I can’t say there’s really a big difference from then to now-except for seeing the patches that did and did not take place. The multiplayer gameplay itself is more of less the same experience
Also that is a very interesting point you talked about-the difference in the first-time experience when the expansions are included And of course the games that have been vastly improved since launch…
I never buy games new anymore. Always wait for a price drop. They usually go half off at least during the first year they’re out. Plus, I need to know whether or not they’re actually any good. The last time I bought a new game at launch was 2018 and that was the Spyro remasters. Think I’ll probably get Monster Hunter Wilds at launch too, but that’s because World was a complete masterpiece and I know it’s the same people making it.
The only thing I buy day one is either expansions or fromsoftware games. Can't wait for The Final Shape! Game Pass has also been really good for day one games.
I waited on Horizon Zero Dawn and bought it for ~15€. I played it enough to know that I'll want Horizon Forbidden West but hadn't actually finished it. So I started playing Horizon Zero Dawn and pre-ordered Forbidden West on PC while I still wasn't finished with HZD because I knew the game was worth it and that Nixxes was the studio responsible for the port. Now I have finished HZD and the main Campaign of Forbidden West and it's side missions back to back and I am glad I waited with getting HZD because the port was not good at launch sadly, and the lower price tag convinced me to give the series a shot but I also happily pre-ordered Horizon Forbidden West because it was an amazing experience and I can't wait for the inevitable 3rd game in the series! I will miss Lance Reddick as Sylens tho. But also while I happily pre-order great PC Ports of Sony singleplayer games they really are underestimating my power and patience when it comes to NOT buying a console just to play a sequel of a PC ported game! Worst case I will wait years for an emulator and then buy the console copy of the game and emulate it on my PC. Mainly because there will never be enough exclusives on consoles that warranty a 500€ investment compared to my +1k game library on PC! This is also why the only "console" I bought was the Steam Deck!
I started pc gaming back in 2020. 90% of library has been from steam sales. The price ive payed for some of these amazing games blows my mind sometimes lol. The only games ive payed full price for these past 3 years were Elden Ring, BG3, Helldivers 2 and Space Marine 2
I bought Elden Ring on release because Fromsoft is the last good bastion in the gaming industry and it probably is my favourite gaming experience. I was invested in that game as if I was a teenager again. It was really cool to experience that hype combined with exploring the amazing world without looking up guides.
I stop buying day 1 years ago. It started with Dead Space 3... paying $70 for a game that was not very long felt really weird. Then MGSV was such a let down. The final nail was when games started coming out unfinished day 1. Now I will get Starfield when they actually finish it for way less.
I couldn't agree more with what was said in this video. The only game i have bought near release at full cost, costing me £109.99 was Microsoft Flight Simulator Premium Deluxe 40th Anniversary Edition for my Xbox Series X. Other then that i wait for sales and deals, you get a better game with all the patches and stuff. I still haven't yet bought Starfield. I'm looking forward to it hearing it recently got an update but really in no rush, i have a huge backlog to play so i'm giving that game more time. I'm doing this with all my modem systems, Series X, PS5, Switch OLED and Steam Deck OLED.
Excellent video with many good points. But unfortunately there's something I have to break to you. If you think many people didn't play Metro Exodus around its release, because it was on the Epic store, you have spent too much time on Reddit or other similar places. The game was massively successful on all platforms right at release, selling several millions of copies. Believe it or not, the vast majority of players don't care at all if an online video game store is considered "bad" by someone on the internet. I would even bet that most who talk about it online only pretend to care, because that's the opinion to have in some circles. Nowadays many don't seem to remember, but back in the '00s, Steam was "generally accepted" as being "very, very bad." I can understand people being concerned about their video game libraries and achievements, and what have you, but there is no reality where I would have believed, that 15 years later players actually want Steam to monopolize the market. We're not even talking about having to buy a different system, since it's all on PC.
I did the opposite with Witcher 3, got it in release having an extremely underpowered PC and binged it in two weeks at 15-20 fps with crashes all the time just before I had to start a new job. No regrets, magical experience, but goddamn
The only games I buy for their regular retail prices are: a) Online games I want to play now (because they are the current hot thing atm 🤣) or b) smaller, indie games I want to play right now. I can't remember the last time I bought an AAA game at release date (Baldur's Gate 3 maybe? At least after v1.0), exactly because I hate those unfinished patchwork games, that are sadly the norm nowadays. E.g. I recently got both "A Plague Tale" games for less than 1/3 the price of one game at launch, and the Definitive Edition of ReCore for less than a burger. And as a PC player you often can benefit from bundled games from places like HumbleBundle, Fanatical etc. That said, it helped reduce the build up of my pile of shame drastically, but I still buy more games, that I play.... First world problem, I guess. 🙈 Reminds me, that I still have to play through Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that I also bought for less than 5 bucks during one of the Steam sales during the "human malware". 4:15 That's the only one I have not (yet) beaten, because I was working for the PR team of Bandai Namco at that time. Because of this, I had to play the latest dev build over and over again, which drained my enthusiasm for Dark Souls II completely, when the game was finally released. It did not help, that the game was eventually also ported to PS4/Xbox One. 😁
Better yet buy indie and AA titles instead. Launch prices are much lower and generally quality is higher than many AAA titles. Here are a handful of great ones... Psuedoregalia - $5 Cultic - $10 Crow Country - $20 Wrath: Aeon of Ruin - $25 Tiny Kins - $25 Super Kiwi 64 - $3 Vomitoreum - $10 Supraland - $20 Last Hero of Nostalgia - $25 Toem - $20 Salaco - $25 Graven - $25 Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - $17 Gloomwood - $20 And many of these go on sale much lower than the launch prices above. And there are so so many more. You just have to look beyond the slop.
Waited and got Metro Exodus Gold Edition about a month ago on PS5 for about $8. Totally worth every penny. Having the added DLC included adds the extended play on a great, visually stunning shooter with story.
I currently have Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate ed and Lies of P on my PS5 wish list. Will buy when they hit £30 or less. I stopped buying games on release day more than 10 years ago. I did buy Helldivers 2 though, as it was £40. Well worth it as i have spent 150+ hours on it.
Quake Remaster, and Castlevania Anniversary Collection are both $20 or less. The Arcade Archives and ACA Neo Geo games released by Hamster Corporation are generally inexpensive. Unlimited quarters can really change appeal for difficult arcade games. Unless its an arcade title with a limit on continues.
I bought halo infinite because I love buying every single halo game, and the campaign was the best part of it, too thiiss daayy, the campaigns graphics amazes me, and the ambition and scale of the halo ring is something that everyone needs to see, it’s truly perfect!🙂
Hi commented ok your video about playing older FF Which I have been but taken a break to finally play Skyrim like you said in the video about new vegas I'm glad I'm playing it now as much as I had never before because of the love for it the mods and it's aged really well loving the world and atmosphere
Couldn't agree more to wait on a game and pick it up on sale. Brought dying light 2 last black Friday physical for $10 a steal. At that point dying light 2 was at a better state than launch.
Every game I’ve been late to the party with I’ve enjoyed way more than the games I’ve purchased on day 1. I got the complete edition of The Witcher 3 for $20. Feels like I stole it from CD Projekt Red for that price and how good that game was.
I can understand if you're young and excited, now I preffer to look for bargains when shopping for games. I have zero £70 games, Steam has games on sale 365 days a year. I bought Days Gone from Steam for a tenner, out of roughly 250 Steam games I play about two or three a week.
BG3 was an exception for me too. xd Never heard from it and it finally blew up at full release. Everybody i knew was talking about it. Never had contact with these kind of games but the hype got me this time. I'm glad this is an exception because most of the times i'm happy with not buying any of these new "cool" developed for everybody fps games.^^
I buy games I want to play day one to support, but play them months later (patches). If everyone would wait for a big price drop, what a great situation this would be.
I only play new games for making guides for my channel. And now enjoying old games on my backlog, and still making guides for it, even it has no views. Because the games give my joys 😊 On financial sides, games subscription save my thin wallet.
I agree with you, but also I'm happy that I'm able to play gray zone warfare rn, and that I got to play combat champions. Sometimes the junk creates more memorable experiences, takes me back to my childhood era of finding shitty java script games online and spending 5 hours playing the shit out of em
This may explain why Nintendo is against preserving old games; they can't sell new games at a high price, especially since they don't cut the price of games nearly as often as other companies.
The reason why I needed to wait on cyberpunk 2077 is because I only had a Xbox one s at the time, and the Xbox one version was unplayable! I now got a Xbox series x, and I bought the Xbox series x version so that it’s playable, and it’s got the best optimization!
Funny enough, the video started dropping frames when you were talking about the 2.0 update in Cyberpunk. I thought it was your footage of Cyberpunk for the first 30 seconds. Than the TH-cam app crashed and closed out. 😂
From what I'm getting from this is that you should wait till the dev cycle's completely over and there's no more support for the name and so the game is done literally
I have built such a huge catalogue that I can play a new game for every day for 3 years and then some, it's crazy all my wishlisted games are usually old games and newer indie games....the AAA scene is cooked.
The only modern franchise that I still buy (for now) is Monster Hunter. Aside of that and every From software game, yeah, I wait for sales or just pirate them
I don't get why people needs to buy the whole package of star wars outlaws for 130$ when u could just be happy with the 70$ and 20%off using 100 credits from their storefront and that's what I'm doing and only cost 56$
Or just wait until it’s on gamepass :) been playing so many great games that eventually come out on there. I have a big back catalog . I just finished control and it was great
I rarely buy new games anymore. They always go on sale so wait. Unless it's a game I really want. Most of the time though I won't have time to play it anyway.
Earlier you used to go to a shop to find a game.
Now you go to a game to find a shop

Been doing this . Since games are 70+ dollars, that was my breaking point to say I’ll never buy a game above 50% off or more. 70 bucks is too much in this climate .
Great video! Older gamer here, 52. Love those older 360 games! Metro Exodus is one of my faves as well! Incredible game!
Remember the 360 games were only 7-12 gigs? And they were amazing! 🎉
One thing that really ticks me off is content that is not available anymore:
Stuff like events that have passed (like ff15 assassin festival, some event quests in monster hunter World etc) or pre-order/early purchase stuff that was never made available after that window
I have so many games I have no need to buy a new release and that is compounded by the fact games do not release finished and we don’t know how much it will change after a year of patches. So, I never pre-order I never buy day one, if I want a game I put it on my Steam wish list and wait for a Steam Sale.
I’m just planning on playing the XBox 360 CoD games with no intention of buying a new one. Way better product for way less cost
I'll argue you should buy new games, but it's mainly for indies & Double A games. Games like Helldivers 2, Hell Let Loose, Deep Rock Galactic, Battlebit, and Vampire Survivor come to mind.
Support your local game devs! 😅
Rock and stone brother
yes, and gems like baldurs gate 3 and elden ring deserve it too. As soon as i hear hero shooter, extraction whatever battle royale... I'm out. not for 60€, not for 20€ not even for free.
I got Freedom fighters for $3. Having a banger as playing a plumber fighting Russian occupation of NYC.
Soundtrack hit hard. Really set the mood.
Should i buy dragons dogma 2? Im On Xbox series x and dont have a problem with 30 fps
some games are so old they are FREE abandonware like the original Prey
Yup last December I bought Jedi Survivor, Hogwarts Legacy, Remnant2, Hi Fi Rush and RE4 Remake. All games that they were less than a year old and payed under 40 dollars per game. I can’t imagine paying 70 dollars a pop for all those games.
You still wasted you're money

It’s a controversial take for me. When it comes to expense, it’s a no-brainer
But when it comes to multiplayer, being there at the beginning can be really fun. However that varies from game to game
In the case of elden ring, it was really fun imo to be there right at the start. Tons of action, and most players aren’t using meta builds. After a while, a lot of the pool of players dies down, and you get a lot of all-day grinders using maxed meta builds (which makes a BIG difference in elden Ring)
Another example is split gate. Playing it now-you get mostly bots in the lobbies. I’d imagine it was really intense during the early days
A game I did get on fast was the finals. It was fun, but I can’t say there’s really a big difference from then to now-except for seeing the patches that did and did not take place. The multiplayer gameplay itself is more of less the same experience
Also that is a very interesting point you talked about-the difference in the first-time experience when the expansions are included
And of course the games that have been vastly improved since launch…
Multiplayer games aren't worth spit when the cheating situation gets so out of hand that it ruins the entire point of the multiplayer game.
I do this but mostly for gamepass. Jedi survivor just got added, for example
Love pc gamepass
I started pc gaming back in 2020. 90% of library has been from steam sales. The price ive payed for some of these amazing games blows my mind sometimes lol. The only games ive payed full price for these past 3 years were Elden Ring, BG3, Helldivers 2 and Space Marine 2
I bought Elden Ring on release because Fromsoft is the last good bastion in the gaming industry and it probably is my favourite gaming experience. I was invested in that game as if I was a teenager again. It was really cool to experience that hype combined with exploring the amazing world without looking up guides.
Love the general industry topics. You’re the goat.
I stop buying day 1 years ago. It started with Dead Space 3... paying $70 for a game that was not very long felt really weird. Then MGSV was such a let down. The final nail was when games started coming out unfinished day 1. Now I will get Starfield when they actually finish it for way less.
A lot of my backlog consists of older titles. The last newer titles I bought were Thousand Year Door and System Shock and they were both remakes.
This could very well be the most important video for Gamers to watch ever.
This is why indie games are rising upon the big company garbage, i really hope these small creators get all the fame and fortune they deserve.
I did the opposite with Witcher 3, got it in release having an extremely underpowered PC and binged it in two weeks at 15-20 fps with crashes all the time just before I had to start a new job. No regrets, magical experience, but goddamn
The only games I buy for their regular retail prices are:
a) Online games I want to play now (because they are the current hot thing atm 🤣) or
b) smaller, indie games I want to play right now.
Psuedoregalia - $5
Cultic - $10
Crow Country - $20
Wrath: Aeon of Ruin - $25
Tiny Kins - $25
Super Kiwi 64 - $3
Vomitoreum - $10
Supraland - $20
Last Hero of Nostalgia - $25
Toem - $20
Salaco - $25
Graven - $25
Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - $17
Gloomwood - $20
And many of these go on sale much lower than the launch prices above. And there are so so many more. You just have to look beyond the slop.
Waited and got Metro Exodus Gold Edition about a month ago on PS5 for about $8. Totally worth every penny. Having the added DLC included adds the extended play on a great, visually stunning shooter with story.
I also just picked up Battlefront 2 on 95% off sale, you can still find a few PvE games with a lobby
Lowkey hoping Battlebit gets the same treatment. Very small dev team tho, we can only hope.
Is waiting a year a good rule of thumb for all the fixes to be done?
I would recommend GOG sales as well. Right now I am getting the offline installers on a external SSD so I own it.
Cool video bro but why do you play Metro with hitmarkers on?
I honestly didn't know I could turn them off lol
I got Dying Light 1 for 2$ on a sale and have over 350 hours in it. 10/10 game
Hi commented ok your video about playing older FF Which I have been but taken a break to finally play Skyrim like you said in the video about new vegas I'm glad I'm playing it now as much as I had never before because of the love for it the mods and it's aged really well loving the world and atmosphere
I agree but There’s something special to me about getting a game on release day
This is what i'm doing atm!
And now I'm enjoying videogames again!
Since last year, hunting PS3 games from Dark Souls to Dragon Crown still searching
I never buy games at launch. Wait for a sale after 6 months besides those hipster games like Elden Ring and Baldur's Gate 3
Hipster games btw..
Pirating and game pass>>>>
I buy games I want to play day one to support, but play them months later (patches). If everyone would wait for a big price drop, what a great situation this would be.
Currently have a ton of backlog games both on PC/Steam and PlayStation so not in a rush to buy 150$ new game.
I only play new games for making guides for my channel. And now enjoying old games on my backlog, and still making guides for it, even it has no views. Because the games give my joys 😊
On financial sides, games subscription save my thin wallet.
been doing this for years, makes no sense buying games at release in my opinion, ive started to even just download the catalogue games now
I agree with you, but also I'm happy that I'm able to play gray zone warfare rn, and that I got to play combat champions.
I wait till after Jedi Survivor came out to buy Fallen Order and that was a ton of fun especially considering I got it for $5.
I think the game i had the most fun with in the past 6 months is either spiderman 2 (PS5) and terraria
Is cyberpunk playable on ps4 yet?
Lately I've been waiting for digital games to hit single digits ($9.99).
The reason why I needed to wait on cyberpunk 2077 is because I only had a Xbox one s at the time, and the Xbox one version was unplayable! I now got a Xbox series x, and I bought the Xbox series x version so that it’s playable, and it’s got the best optimization!
I’ve been buying used games for a while now and I can’t sing its praise enough
I'm about to buy 18 Xbox360 games for 60 bucks. Mostly crazy, timeless titles I haven't played before.
What were the first two games shown?
Metro Exodus and The Outer Worlds
Thanks friend
Idk I'm still playing halo 2,ce, cs2, and 2600 hours in idle champions of the forgotten realms with constant updates
I just cant play new vegas. The buggy mess, awful frame times and constant crashing makes it hard to play.
Funny enough, the video started dropping frames when you were talking about the 2.0 update in Cyberpunk. I thought it was your footage of Cyberpunk for the first 30 seconds.
Than the TH-cam app crashed and closed out. 😂
I can't remember the last game I bought that was new! I'm more of a casual gamer though..
I'm enjoying Deep Rock Galactic and Sniper Elite 5 these days.
I wish I could play Mass Effect again for the first time.
the Steam wishlist works wonders for my game budget
If you know it's gonna be good, buy it day 1 anyway. GoW Ragnarok on pc is definitely a buy.
you make a lot of good points
waited months for xenoblade 1 definitive to go on sale on the switch and it was peak(even though it was still $55 Canadian it was so good
Or just wait until it’s on gamepass :) been playing so many great games that eventually come out on there. I have a big back catalog . I just finished control and it was great
I got metro exodus for like 10 with all the other games a while back, might as well play it them now lol. edit: Exodus is 5.99$ rn
I rarely buy new games anymore. They always go on sale so wait. Unless it's a game I really want. Most of the time though I won't have time to play it anyway.
You don't need to tell me twice lmao but that might be due to my hockey jersey collecting addiction and with how stupid expensive it is.
