What are Error Codes on ZERO and VSETT Scooters and how to fix errors

This set of instructions applies to all QS-S4 LCD Displays that are used on the ZERO and VSETT electric scooters.
From time to time, you may encounter the dreaded ERROR message on your LCD. Below is the full list of error codes but in this video tutorial, we go through the most common error codes that you may encounter and how to resolve them.
ERROR CODE | Diagnostic Step Resolution:
0 - Normal Status Normally ok; Turn off and on scooter;
2 - Brake Check brake lever on handlebar and see if brake springs back;
6 - Battery Undervoltage; Check LCD setting P03 and P15; Give battery a full charge to see if issue persists
7 - Motor Fault Unplug and plug motor connector back in to see if issue persists; Change motor otherwise.
8 - Throttle Turnstile Fault; Check if back screw or magnet has come loose in the throttle/LCD; Worst case change LCD throttle.
9 - Controller Fault; Replace controller or faulty MOSFET
10 - Communication Receiving Fault; Unplug and plug in LCD connector and see if issue persists; Change wire harness or connector to fix.
11 - Communication Transmission Fault; Unplug and plug in controller connector and see if issue persists; IF issue persists, then wiggle the LCD wire in different directions to see if problem persists; Change LCD wire harness in worst case.
12 - BMS comm Failure; Check if battery is able to charge; if battery is able to charge, then check connector of battery to controller;

I really appreciate you going through the the error codes and in details to fixing a problem. A lot of this information isn't present in the manual and isn't helpful when the times come to look for a solution. I ride a Vsett 11+ Grey and black version with updated display. 👍

Oh my gawd! Thank you! I have been going back and forth with Varla “customer service” (a Zero 10x clone as I understand it), for a month regarding an E10 message, across dozens of emails and repeated trouble-shooting instructions to me (guided by completely ridiculous videos they send me that are crazy-insufficient), telling me to check (and video) various voltages, sending the resulting videos back to them. The latest message I received from this morning, from yet another customer, basically returns all the way back to the very beginning with “Jennie” telling me to do a test they described (and later told me was wrong), at the very beginning a month ago: ach CS person increasingly seems NOT to read the history. Absolutely absurd!
Reaching the end f my limit I decided I’d just see it I could find a place to buy two new controllers and just replace them. Thankfully I found your very complete, clear, and complete video, something Varla should absolutely have done a month ago! (Again,across probably 25 back-and-forth emails). Thank you very very much!

Great video, nailes it, I had the E10 error, and it was my wire that goes from my throttle to the controller. AS soon as I switched that wire, i was golden! Also, another thing for the E10, that u didn't mention, (this was told to me by a friend, so it COULD be wrong.), he said he got the E10 after a small crash he had, nothing serious, but it did press his brake lever in, and of course they have a safety feature that u cant use the throttle, if the brake is pressed on. Once he realized that his brakes were on, (when he tried to walk the scooter home), he fixed the brake wire, and the E10 went away. Like I said this is hear say, to be honest, i dont really know the dude that told me this, just thought id throw it in there, it may help someone, and save a few bucks. Thanks again for the video, and i subbed to your channel.
Interesting! Thanks for the use case. Brakes is normally E2 and in your friends case, we need to think more about why the brakes would affect communication between the controller and LCD. And also, thanks for the sub. Appreciate it.
I got the E 10 today but my voltage ⚡display goes from a full charge to straight cut off like dead. The display after a while it comes back on only to show a draining voltage ⚡ I really need to fix this problem 😭

In my case, a 48v zero 8, after a 8 km ride from full battery, in the last km, a small uphill, at 28kmh, the voltage dropped to 0 when it reached 44V ,with er 06. It always does that at 44-43v, although cutoff and voltage are set correctly(48 and cutoff 39).Could it be the bms or should i check the controller?

What is the cut-off voltage for Vsett9+? It has 48V battery.
I have a Vsett10+ Build (Legacy2.0 from IO Hawk 52v system) and i would to asking how i remove E00 on the display it comes only if the Vibration are coming hard and the EABS brakes me down what i could it be ? and the battery are full charged
I checked for a controller to the vsett8+ but can't find any...as i understand the zero 8 is the same so i could use a controller from that? Is it only voltage on the controller that are different on these models or is it more?
Nice video, thanks. I have a brand new 2022 Ghost and neither the rear LED lights or brake lights are illuminating (out of the box defect). The other (front and side) LED lights are ok. No error messages. Any idea where the problem may lie? I heard the Ghost has a similar set up to the Zero scooters but can't find any fixes online. Apollo is sending me two replacement lights but I'm guessing that, with a brand new scooter, the issue is not the lights (what's the likelihood of having two bad rear bulbs on a brand new scooter?) but perhaps an electronics issue elsewhere?
Best way to check is to disconnect your front lights and hook it up to your rear light connectors. If it lights up, then it’s the led lights, if it doesn’t then it’s the dc converter.
Hi and thank you for your video! I started getting E10 today after replacing Controller B on my Mototec Thor scooter. It worked yesterday with the previous controller but it did not send the full power to the rear motor. Once I replaced the controller, E10 started flashing. I tried putting back the old controller but the error still exists. I removed and reassembled the throttle stick with the magnet again but the error still exists. This is a QS-S4 controller. Do you have any suggestions by chance? Is my LCD throttle bad and needs to be replaced? It just worked yesterday just fine. Is there any way to add another thumb controller instead of QS-S4 and use that instead? Please advise. Thank you!
ur controller may not be compatible. did u use original parts? is the controller version the same as that of the other controller...etc. not the right forum to discuss on youtube. get us on whatsapp or telegram.

Hello, thanks for making the video (with a good explaination). I have a vsett 10+, I don't have an error code but the front wheel doesn't work anymore AND it is even blocking (like the eabs is active). Didn't find anything like this on the internet. Can this be fixed by doing something ? Kind regards

Hi 3 years ago I bought quickvolt 8. Few months ago my LCD (type QS S4)broke. So I bought a new one (type: LH 100-which is compatible with 48 v battery). So the thing is that it gives me type 6 error when I plug it in. The thing is there are no wire or battery problems...how do I know??? well when I put the old LCD everything is good no problems no nothing (my old LCD is good just a piece of plastic broke from the lever that s all). But when I put the new LCD it gives me the error. Can you help me?? What can I do?? I dont think I need to check the wires(the wires are fine since the old LCD works).

Hi. I have a problem with inaccurate speed on the display and says error. I thinks that’s a problem with the calibration or wiring issues. What solve this problem ?
It means your wheel size or your magnet settings are wrong
I have error code 08, it’s not on the display all the time. But when I pull the throttle the motor makes a clicking sound but no movement. I’ll check the throttle magnet position. It’s a Hero S8 btw , thanks
What can I do if it gives me error 08 but the accelerator is fine and the magnet too... if I turn it on with one motor it doesn't give me the error but when activating both motors it gives me error 08... as extra data the lights stay on and when you want to turn them on, only the ones in the back and the one in the front don't turn on... the skate feels a little slowed down I hope you can help me
I have an okida. X4 5600w scooter and I’m getting E 06 flashing and the throttle won’t allow the wheels to spin and some times I can’t even turn the scooter on also I noticed the scooter looses a charge after a few weeks without even using it can you help me ?
Thank you for your Video. I have a zero 10x 60v and every time i hit a road bump, the rear motor stops working, i have to leave the throttle and push again and it works great until the next road bump. Any ideas?

@@IGNITION1978 Maybe you have bad connection or bad cords. It feels as it's more of a guessing game here. My suggestion is to check both motor and throttle connection. Unplug and plug them back together and maybe spray some electric spray. Start with the most easiest stuff. If that doesn't help then you have to go deeper. These connections should be outside of the scooter..not inside. Sometimes things can just be bad connection and when you drive on a bump it shakes and it acts like a off and on switch. This is just a wild guess...but you need to start somewhere. You can also put the scooter on a stand and start throttle a bit. Feel and drag the cords carefully...if the motor dies then there are something with the cord or the connections. Maybe the cord to the motor is more likely to be the fault because it's only the rear motor

I'm getting error code 6 and 10 but mainly 6.
Charges fine turns on and rides but any moment on the journey it loses power says e6 then turns off and I cannot turn back on unless I connect it to a charger, when I connect it it comes back on. I had 2 issues that may have caused this, my mudguard wires got abit shredded, so I've cut them off until I get a mudguard (shortened them) and taped them singular, 2 no issue I rod in the rain then didn't ride for 2 days and I could only turn 1 way, I sprayed wd40 amd then it worked again

Hi, I had error code E09, I changed controller and the error code changed to E10.
When I had error code E09, The lights and horn worked. But since I changed the controller the light doesn’t turn on and horn doesn’t work. Error E10 showing when I turn on the scooter.

Hello could error 07 be my controller? Like the phase wires or mosfets could still give our motor faults?
The best way to find out is to disconnect your motor and turn on your scooter. Is the error code still there?

I have an err08. I've checked the screw and magnet and they look OK.
At the rear hub (actually the brake when I separate the wheel, but that makes no sense)is a hight pitched noise.
Any idea?
Error 8 may also be motor hall sensor issue.

For your error 8, on my zero10x it's not the magnet or throttle, it has something to do with the cable as we've plugged it into a different screen and the error code still came up...
Hi sorry we missed out a part. It could also be your motor hall sensor. Unplug your motor cables and see if the error persists

Hi I have a problem with Vsett 8. It doesn't run anymore and from the motor comes while the throttle is on awful ticking and rattling only. It started to show E 09 error and now appears also E 00. Don't you know what that could mean?
First check your motor wire connector, is it ok?

Error 10 is normally communication error, meaning the new lcd is not compatible

It might be related to an intermittent connection in the lcd so just change lcd
İ use Yakasuma Jaguar, i changed the throttle, so when put the new one E-6 error appears on the screen, but when put the old throttle no errors and the scooter works anyone knows what is the problem?
I have this weird problem on my 10x 52V 23Ah.
When fully charged I drive about 15km and scooter just turns off. It says error 6 and 10. During ride voltage never drops below 49V. But it just dies. Turning key does nothing, it shows no voltage. If I connect charger it comes back to life and usually show about 54V. I checked the wires and connectors, they all seems ok.

@@unknownuser3988 I did some research and it seems to be obvious side effect of dead battery cell(s). Battery should be disassembled and each cell should be tested for capacity and voltage. Not an easy job for a beginner and some tools are required. Also, new and same cells should be available to replace dead ones.
Battery is just under two years old, my odo shows about 3000km. Cells are LG.

And recently ran into some problems.
I got caught in the rain one afternoon, and as I sat at a traffic light.. I accidentally triggered the throttle and the scooter took off out of my hand and crashed to the floor.
My throttle broke as a result.
I had some tape on me so I fastened the unit back to the handlebar and was able to drive it...
However, Only my front wheel had power !
Nothing I could do to get the back wheel to engage.
I took off the deck plate and found about a quarter of an inch water inside the battery storage compartment.
Do you think it's possible that my voltage controller was fried? Considering When the scooter fell over, the water within doused the rest of the area..
Update *
I bought a thumb throttle to replace my broken trigger throttle.
When I installed it, my rear wheel began working again !
But*
My scooter only does about 8 miles before it dies.....
So back to my original question...
Do you think if I replace the controllers internally, will it possibly restore some of my battery life?

Now after hearing the full story I think your battery may be the problem. Controllers isn’t the problem if it works normally.
I have this problem right now mate so all i need is a new throttle?
the 00 returned after restarting the scooter. And i had 53v on battery and it already lost the power even on one motor.
my zero10x gave me err 06 at 41-42V(cutoff 39) should I worry?
No 41V is very low

E10 is tricky. It could be wire harness from lcd to controller that’s causing the issue

Nice Video, How do you discharge a battery (cycle) if you have an error code and the scooter doesn't move?
Thank you for your question. Charge the battery to full before discharging. If the Error goes away then you can discharge it. If it does not, then it’s a controller issue.
Use old-style bulb, like this:

they are basically resistors that put energy into heat, so they doesn't care about voltage and alternating or direct current. Calculate bulb power (thus resistance) to keep current draw below 10A.

I need help. I try to unmount my engine of my zero 9 to redo the wiring. The issue is that the thing is glued ! After removing the motor screws, it’s glued… how can I remove it ?
its not glued, its the magnet holding it together. is yours a real zero 9?
@@FalconpevSg no it’s real glue, I can scrap it in some places… no it’s not the real one, there are the zero signs a bit everywhere but it’s a “blaze”
