Far and Away Official Trailer #1 - Tom Cruise Movie (1992) HD
Far and Away Trailer - Directed by Ron Howard and starring Tom Cruise, Thomas Gibson, Robert Prosky, Cyril Cusack, Colm Meaney. A young man (Tom Cruise) leaves Ireland with his landlord's daughter (Nicole Kidman) after some trouble with her father. They dream of owning land at the big giveaway in Oklahoma, California. When they get to the new land, they find jobs and begin saving money. The man becomes a local barehands boxer and rides in glory until he is beaten. His employers steal all the couple's money and they must fight off starvation in the winter trying to keep their dream of owning land alive.

I wish they still made movies like this. I love the scene in the house at Christmas with the dreamy lighting and the gentle flute music. It's so unashamedly romantic.
They were so young and beautiful in this movie - both of them.
As a Korean immigrant and also as an Oklahoman, this movie made me fall in love with America when I saw it in the theater. The day I became naturalized as a citizen was one of the proudest days of my life!! 💓
I was adopted from China and became an American citizen. I also live in Oklahoma.
Hard-working Americans love and respect immigrants who come here to make a good life for themselves, and who strive to make this country a better place for everyone. It's sad that so many citizens who were born in this country are such spoiled, useless, lazy people, who do nothing but complain, and seek the destruction of everything that makes it a desirable place to go. I left the US when I was 18, been living abroad now for nearly half my life and I can't wait to get back. Originally I'm from Michigan, but am thinking of settling in Texas, Tennessee or Kentucky.

One of my best romantic movie of all times. These 2 looked awesome together and were meant to be together forever! They were both powerful in their prime.
Tom still is. He is powerful enough to make or break someone.
Tom and his Scientologist weirdos ended their marriage. Nicole had common sense and got away from the lunacy. Their adopted children stayed with the Scientologists.
I've always thought Tom to be infertile after Mimi Rogers said they'd wanted a family together, and Nicole didn't produce any children with Tom yet she has since had two biological daughters with Keith Urban.
Katie Holmes made a great escape with getting Suri away too. I don't believe Tom is her biological father. I used to think he was but looking back at photos, Suri is 100% her mother's double. I think it's disgusting the way Tom appeared to abandon her when he'd been such an attentive father. He should have kept up contact regardless of her DNA as she was too young to understand. Then again, perhaps there were fears the loons may abduct her and Tom was forcibly kept away from her 🤷🏼♀️
It's a shame that Tom doesn't appear to have a lady in his life. Such a great action actor.

Your question suggests they made films like this all the time in the '90's. They didn't. A movie like Far and Away was a pretty rare find back then. It was a callback to the grand technicolor epics of the 1950's. Ron Howard was channeling John Ford.

this movie made such an impression on me as a kid! the scene where is cold snowing theyre poor and go into that house... ill never forget. it was perfect.
the irish starving and farming rocks for their brit landlords.......or... the public face of scientologist (tom) that has slaves run his household and give him all their 20/mo wages as birthday presents.....while his best friend david miscavage leeds scientology by stripping members of all their cash and beating his staff.....kinda ironic

Mine too...being removed on my dad's native side..but I liked this movie. I saw it in the theaters with my mom who came from irish ancestry.
I remember this movie! Loved seeing a dramatization of the beautiful Irish who came to this grand country and helped shape it. I'm thankful for every single American who still loves this amazing country that brought freedom and rights to people from all over the world. God bless America!

This is Tom’s BEST MOVIE HE EVER MADE. Same for Nicole. I’m praying Tom has Jesus in his heart... forgets the stupid cult... enjoy the rest of his life with Suri... and gets to heaven. For what good does it do a man to gain the world but lose his soul. Tom, LOVE is what makes your heart sing. And Suri sings. God made her... and He is LOVE. Forget yesterday. We love you Tom. Get to heaven with Jesus. Suri will be there with you. LOVE is most important thing.

tom is a serial wife/child abuser........he divorced her because she was not going clear with scientology( also her father is a prominent psychiatrist).....tom put her adopted kids in scientology/sea org so they will never talk to her again........also tom has not spoken with his biological kid suri for 12 yrs because she is not a scientologist......watch "going clear" on hbo
