I am really tempted to get one of these 73's. First N gauge engine ever.

I would recommend it as it is a nice model and quite affordable, just be a bit on the careful side with it as it's light weight makes it feel fragile, it's generally alright but always good to be on the safe side.
Do hope you enjoy it if you do get one!

@@GosportRailworks I am from the Midlands so 73's to me were exotica only encountered on trips to London. I first became aware of them in an article in Rail Enthusiast. And these little loco's have been to this day a favourite. I was surprised at the price of the model which I think is really good value.

Looks good James especially pulling those particular carriages.

Nice review James. Gaugemaster did a fantastic job with this one. It looks really nice running around your layout. Your review videos are getting really good too so keep it up.- Nicholas.

Cheers very much Nicholas, and I'm slowly getting better, though I still need to do a few takes when doing the "more about the prototype" section.
And I'm quite impressed with the new 73, still feels far too light, but it works quite well so I'm happy with it!

I'm quite happy with this version of the 73 as well, even with the minor issues with it, it's still a lovely loco!

Purchased the green version. The first one only had one cab blind working - so returned to seller. The second model has yet to complete a full circuit with derailing - again returning. I did read that the Dapol OO gauge diesels have derailment issues ; is it the same with the N gauge?

So far mine has only had some minor derailment issues (touch wood), and figured that was due to both my trackwork and also one bogie being more restricted in movement.
I have heard that the OO Dapol diesels were like that, however in N so far it's just the new 73 of mine which has had some issues, the others I've got (a 33, 50, 43 and a 121) have been fine round corners.
I do have more problems with Dapol couplings however, they always seem to jog loose no matter what brand of stock is behind them, often just being the one coupling while the other end is fine.

    It’s a class 73 not 75

Unfortunately it was a slight lip of the tongue, a few too many times saying something5, did end up correcting myself at the end.

Thank you very much Tony, and do quite like the Blood and Custard Mk.1s, quite an iconic look for them!
