    🇦🇺😎👍Hey mate I did the ultimate suspension kit through my DR 650 Assaurass. High tech springs , gold valves etc and I’m quite dissatisfied. While the suspension works well and the bike is a lot more nimble I think the only way to make it more plush is to change everything … great mods

      Thanks for the feedback, I found after I sold some of the old parts doing the fork swap was actually cheaper than modifying the stock stuff would have been!

    Awesome video. Where were you riding, I need to add that area to my bucket list. That looks incredible.

    You didn´t make the springs stiffer with your preload spacer mod, you just increased preload which affects the sag of the bike ( how much it sinks in when you sit on it ) but doesnt make them stiffer. If you wanna increase the spring-rate of your original springs, cut a few coils from the spring, which increases the spring-rate and is what you really want. You add the lenghts that you´ve cut to your preload spacer afterwards.

      Although it didn't change the spring rate it did have the effect of the forks riding much stiffer as they now ride much higher in the stroke with the extra preload. But yes I should have clarified that in the video.

      You contradict yourself in your own statement. Cutting the spring and adding a spacer is the same thing as just adding a smaller spacer and letting that part of the spring remain compressed.

      @@TheGamersRace No not true. Cutting springs shorter increases the spring rate. Adding preload will make the forks more stiff on small impacts.

      @@speedtoad6167 Maybe on a standard spring, not on a progressive spring.

    Do any year yz forks work?

    • @LakemanADV
      @LakemanADV  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MS-sk7kw not certain. My understanding is that from about 2000 to 2005 will work using this method. 2003 for sure. Yamaha sold a boat load of yz400, yz426 and yz450s during those years so they are easy to find now.

      If you can get the forks from an 05 or newer WR that are the open chamber style. They changed the brake line routing in 05 to a cleaner set up, also get WR 450 forks because the damping is set up for off road rather than motocross. The MX forks suck for off road riding when on the original Yamaha bike. The wr forks are also equipped for the odometer drive.

      Worth noting the dr is about 120 lbs heavier than yz is so the MX valving actually works pretty well off road.

      @LakemanADV I bought the front end, and with the wr front wheel, I can use the OEM speedometer. And bought a Sachs rear suspension from a Husqvarna. :) I hope within two weeks gonna be ready. And the big plus, after I changed the supermoto wheels, I realized somehow the previous owner gave me 18" rear wheel, with cushdrive :) awesome.

      Open air box, fmf pipe, 790 big bore kit, big valve head, web cam and pumper carb can give you an extra 20hp.
