I’m with you on the radically new design of the keyboard Andrew! It is very much welcomed to their usual design which really hasn’t changed in years. I love the gorgeousness of the screen, how portable it really is, the 12th Gen processor, the very fast SSD as well as the latest in RAM technology. The capacitive row design doesn’t really bother me. The only drawback for me is the absence of the ports but other than that, it seems to be a real Winner. Great review once again Andrew. 👍😀

I ordered this laptop two weeks ago as a new personal travel laptop (photo backup and editing while traveling). I went with the same CPU and screen but chose the 512gb disk. The price to upgrade to 1tb through Dell was actually more expensive than just getting a better/faster Samsung EVO 980 PRO 1tb so I opted to upgrade that myself. The one point i missed was the RAM was not user upgradable and went with the 16gb model which is really enough for what I am using it for. It does put out a lot of heat thats for sure. The battery life has been a sore spot for me. The official site and some other reviews claimed 11 hours of battery life but I am not seing anywhere near that. I did order the 65watt 6 cell notebook charger to double my on the go time after dealing with 5 to 6 hours of battery life.
The keyboard took a little bit to get use to and I wasnt a fan at first but now that I am use to it its alright. But I have noticed that with the backlight on in a normally lit room, its actually hard to read the keys sometimes.
The biggest issue I had with the machine so far was the Dell OS Restore tool does NOT work with this laptop. When you try to run it and do the network restore to a new disk the tool keeps dying on FILE NOT FOUND while downloading the image off Dell. And it wont let you predownload a full image either (Win11 greyed out in recovery tool). I ended up having to use Clonezilla to migrate from the Dell SSD to the Samsung EVO.
Otherwise I am fairly happy with the box and appreciate your reviews.

It's a shame Dell doesn't use AMD CPUs in the XPS line-up, the battery life is just REALLY not enough. I have serious difficulties considering paying more than 2000 euros for potentially WAY less than 8 hours of battery life. Dell has to improve there, students especially will not appreciate this at all.
EDIT: Ended up buying an XPS 13 Plus with a FHD+ panel (which was less expensive than those with OLED) hoping for better battery life than with an OLED panel! We'll see lol but I still would have preferred an AMD processor.

The load average bumps up to like 8.00 or more when watching 4K videos on TH-cam and it gets tremendously hot at the bottom even though CPU sensors record around 70 degree Celsius on average. 4K video playback in Chrome gets jittery though once the CPU heats up. The graphics drivers are probably not well optimized but everything works right out of the box including the fingerprint scanner. Hi Andrew, thanks for the full review! However, could you also test the Delta E in SDR mode? One user tested his XPS 13 Plus Oled under SDR mode and it turns out the Delta E is higher than 3, which is bad in terms of color accuracy. However the SDR content is accurate in hdr mode (Delta E below 1), which suggests Dell did not separate the color space for two modes while they should. Another issue I found out which annoyed me most is the HDR youtube video coded with HLG will not be displayed accurately and looks terrible. You can check the statistics when playing the video in youtube to check whether it is coded by HLG or PQ. PQ HDR video looks fine but there are plenty HDR video still coded with HLG.
I hope the Dell team could hear this and take it seriously because this is definitly a design flaw which shouldn't appear in any laptop (not to mention this is high end win laptop).

This is an excellent laptop for an airplane traveler. It is light and portable. It is definitely not for use as a day to day fully functioning laptop. Only one available USB-C port when plugged in. One has to play around with dongles for USB-A and headset connection. Clumsy way to do it. Also no SD slot is a minus. In this review the camera on the 2021 model actually looked better than on this 2022 model yet on the previous live streams and other videos you did comparing this to last years model this 2022 one actually looked better. I guess it just depends on the lighting conditions at the time you made the videos. The 720p camera might be or not be better than last year's model but it is still mediocre. For what one is paying for this a 1080p camera should be the minimum. No excuse Dell. The microphones were okay and clear sounding. As far as the physical colors of this PC it looks like another gray laptop. Viewers should realize that this probably looks better when having this laptop in your hands than seeing it on a video. Probably some of the beauty of the colors get lost in the translation when having it live in front of you versus seeing it on a video. Like the easy access to the insides all though upgradeabliity is limited to replacing the ssd drive. It is also good one can replace the battery if needed as these do tend to go bad after several years of use. The light keyboard on this light colored laptop makes it hard to see the characters on it under certain lighting conditions. This is also true with many PC's with light colored keyboards. The lit up top row keys are not impressive and I think last year's model with the standardized top row keys was better. As always another great review. Like your reviews as they are honest. Keep up the great work.

Okay, so after watching your review, I’ve come to the conclusion that this laptop is definitely not for me. Sure, there are so cool positives about this laptop, even if there are just a few:
    1. That screen is gorgeous. No doubt about that. Though most people on a 13 inch or 14 inch display probably are fine with a 1920x1080/1200 screen. There’s really no way to see the pixels at that resolution at that screen size, unless you look right up against the screen and actively TRY to look for pixelation. And even then, the lower resolution screens are not bad and you’ll get much better battery life out of those screens. In addition, since you can still get touch screen options, I don’t really think most people should go with the OLED screen and NOBODY should go with the 3840x2400 screen.
    2. The design, while not for me, is different, I’ll give Dell that one.
    3. The performance is great on Intel 12th gen, although at and below 35 watts, AMD generally does better both in terms of performance and efficiency while running in battery power. And AMD gets far better battery life than Intel since Ryzen 4000.
    4. Still has both Windows Hello authentication methods (IR camera and fingerprint sensor). Gaming laptops, high-end ones, need more of these, and only recently have started to get even one option.
    5. Apart from the “not touchbar”, the keyboard does appear to be good.
    6. I personally do not like the touchpad, but many people do, so there’s that, I guess. 🤷‍♂️
However, there are some serious negatives that prevent me from even considering this laptop, even for most people I know:
    1. Dell’s quality control and customer support has really fallen since 2016. I can’t tell you how bad their “premium support” is compared to Lenovo. Lenovo’s support is based out of the U.S. for people living there, and beats out wherever Dell has their support. The only company who is currently worse is Razer, but that’s admittedly a whole different level. Not to mention, I bought my Razer Blade 17 2022 from Micro Center to avoid Razer and their “customer support. But back to Dell, the difference between 2015 & 2020 was so stark that you would almost think they were different companies. It took 4 years to fix a Dell XPS sleep/wake issue that made the device UNUSABLE as a laptop. And it involved wiping the laptop clean. Come on Dell, fix this garbage!
    2. Two Thunderbolt 4 ports really isn’t enough for me once you have a charger plugged in. Maybe for some people who do have docks, dongles, and adapters it might not be a big deal, but you WILL need them with this laptop.
    3. No headphone jack on a laptop, when even APPLE has doubled down on adding one to their MacBook Air and Pros is unacceptable. Not to mention, most adapters do not have 3.5 mm headphone jacks on them. The ones that do are often MUCH more expensive. I mean, if Apple, a company which got flack for removing them on phones and tablets, did NOT do so on Macs, you know Dell is making the wrong move here.
    4. A 720p webcam in 2022? Give me a break; even Apple has better 1080p webcams! And considering the poor port selection, I doubt most people would plug an external webcam in. Come on Dell! 😡
    5. The “not touch bar” is WORSE than Apple’s prior offering as it lacks any sort of customization, is too easy to press, and not having a physical escape or delete key is a big middle finger to software developers. Even Apple reversed course and added an escape key on the last MacBook Pros with the Touch Bar before removing it on thr 2021 redesign. If Apple, a $2 trillion company didn’t make if work, how can Dell?
    6. The audacity to say it was “necessary” for a capacitive function row to be used instead of a physical one for a 28 watt CPU to be properly cooled in this size of a chassis is so laughable. The Asus ROG Flow x13 has a 35 watt AMD Ryzen CPU, a similar sized chassis, and a dGPU. And the lack of a headphone jack stupidly carried over to the smaller XPS 9315. That laptop is even WORSE than the 9320, as it’s still too expensive, has the same horrible port selection, and a soldered SSD. What a middle finger to consumers!
    7. Battery life is nowhere near Apple Silicon or even AMD. I mean, I know higher resolution screens and OLED screens viewing white content use up more power, but then maybe Dell should not use them. Heck, some of Asus’s ROG laptops can outperform this thing in terms of battery life, and my 2021 Asus ROG Flow x13 from 2021 can at least match if not beat the XPS 9320 in terms of battery life.
    8. I never thought of a person who needed a laptop with this much power in this sized chassis who didn’t also need a dGPU. They usually want more battery life, which they certainly won’t get with this laptop. Yes, this laptop is great in terms of performance. But at what cost and for what purpose?
Overall, I don’t think most people should buy this laptop. I feel it’s too expensive for a form over function device. Not to mention, it doesn’t do an amazing job at most of the basics (except for the physical keyboard and that great screen). In addition, you can get other laptops that do the basics better or similarly to this laptop at similar prices or even less. That is why I don’t think most consumers should buy it *UNLESS* CPU performance and design trumps every thing else.

And why couldn't xps release a 14 inch one instead of 13.4,bollocks

Best Buy is currently selling the Silver (i7, 16ram, 512ssd) OLED model over Memorial Day at a $750 discount
Sadly, this model only yields 6.5 to 7.5 hours of continuous TH-cam viewing
50% brightness, battery saver on, blue tooth off, all background apps closed
The FHD+ model's battery lasted 13-14 hours for i5, 11-12 hours for i7 using same settings

      I LOVE my i7, 16 ram, 512ssd FHD+ model.
Screen is just as good as OLED in my opinion
And battery life is 50% longer

I agree with other reviews, and even your own side by side, the 9310 camera is tons better. I think Plus means price, as in many ways you get less. No headphone jack, less battery life, blown out exposure on the camera, always on gimmick function bar, no sd card... it's just less than the 9310. I see nothing better about this. Only worse.

the intel 12th gen processor still needs a lot of improvement bcuz apple has now raised the bar with M1 & M2 chips & intel has fallen behind. The XPS 13 PLUS is no doubt a beauty and quite tempting to many. But for me personally, I will not consider a USD1300 laptop with a 5 -7hrs screen time bcuz there are better options.

personally i think the xps plus has topped those chips in performance, but i agree on battery life. I have the fhd screen but im gonna get the oled just because.

Question to all you smart people:
    This is a 60W charge - can I use another USB-C charger at a lower rate? 20W? 30W? 45W? I ordered a 90W dual split 60W 30W brick for travel

battery tests should be done on FULL brightness. I always keep my previous XPS 13/15's on max brightness. Also no mention of OLED burn-in which still makes you need to be careful.

Why do Windows laptop manufacturers keep doubling the function keys as special keys? Don't most users need function keys? If users need function keys, wouldn't it make more sense to assign those special keys on other keys closer to the FN button, like QWEASDZXC? I mean, why would a user want to press FN + F10 instead of FN + A?
Also, using white key for backlight is stupid. I know this because I own a laptop with white key and backlight. This is my first laptop with backlight so I did not know how stupid this is before buying it. The backlight makes the keys illegible when the ambient light is dim but not dark. I have decided that I would never buy a laptop with white keys again. I cannot believe laptop manufacturers do not know this fact. Yet, they ignore it and keep using white keys... for what?

I wouldn’t. It has the same poor port selection without the headphone jack and it somehow makes WORSE compromises than the XPS 9320 in a very stupid way: Nothing on it is upgradeable. On the 9320 and pretty much EVERY OTHER WINDOWS DEVICE, you can at least change out the SSD and internal battery. Not so here. Dealbreaker for me.

55Wh at 11.55V per the device manual, is a 4,761.9 mAh battery. My cellphone has 5,000 mAh 😅. I honestly don't understand battery complaints on a slim device with a fancy display....several hours seems quite longe 4-5 hours, but to mention it obviously recharges fast. I'm not concerned aboutw battery life. I'm concerned about the mAh battery size of this 55Wh unit. I' found it isn't the Wh or mAh as much as it is the V. Is it me or could a larger battery be used? Or is the battery tech in say my S22U that much more different than this laptop.??

The 720p webcam is unacceptable in a laptop of this price, I still canˋt understand how this is still possible on Windows these days, itˋs like a bad running joke from manufacturers. The design is great, I hope it filters down to more affordable lines.
