    Funny this pops up in my feed. I just bought that exact spec HP yesterday at Best Buy for $1250 (on sale). I'm a person who prioritizes battery life and still likes ports so with the low price it was an absolute winner.

    One possibly interesting new test category category that I think *a lot* of consumers are interested in: heat & fans during web browsing & office multi-tasking (e.g., Teams / Zoom / Meet call with screen sharing). How hot is it? How loud are the fans running?

    • @djrachman
      @djrachman 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i've done some reading on this and found that the more powerful the processor you buy, the louder and hotter it runs. So the XPS with an i5 chip will run significantly cooler than the XPS with the i7. Thus, it's not the laptop brand that makes the difference. When buying a new laptop, you want to match the performance to what you need- don't just buy the fastest CPU with the most cores possible.

    Features are nice but reliability rules. For many decades, I have always learned more from the repairman than the salesman. Accordingly, it is interesting to note how many HP Spectre X360 that Alex of NorthridgeFix (see YT-channel of same name) has repaired since their lunch in 2015.

    all these new laptops without sufficient ports - makes these useless. Carrying around dongles (which often break because of lousy USB standards) is inexcusable.
    Why is the world going backwards with portable devices?
    Also, I bought 3 laptops in the last year and ALL 3 developed faults within 2 months (without even being used much). Goes to show how flimsy these devices are.

    I like the idea of the x360 design, a lot of uses and flexibility are nice in a laptop (or any device really.) However, I bought my parents an Envy a couple of years back, the pen functionality was garbage, useless for drawing and even if it wasn't the screen was waaay too flimsy (in my opinion) to be poking at it with a big plastic stick... Then after a couple of months (with little use) the hinge self destructed, which it turns out is a pretty common fault with those hinges (having a metal hinge screwed to a bit of weak plastic it seems isn't the best idea.)
    Still nice enough to use as a laptop, if the hinge doesn't go again (at least HP did repair it under warranty) but I wouldn't pay extra for features that just don't work all that well.

    I was a HP laptop user in the past, and now I am a Dell laptop user. The main reason I switched is because of the lack of services HP provides. But, after looking at the Spectre x360 13 at best buy, I wanted to give it a try, and when I compared the Spectre x360 13 to the Dell XPS 13 plus, I liked the Dell more (my personal choice) because I barely us external thumb drives or conventional USB connectors (I store everything in the cloud). When I decided to return the HP Laptop, they charged me 10% (~$125) as a restocking fee, which is not at all fair for such a top brand company, and if I wanted to return a Dell laptop it is hassle free, and their services are top notch, and one example I can say is the shipping time, for HP to ship and deliver it took minimum 5 business days, and dell delivered the laptop the very next day I placed the order, and I had to replace the Dell laptop that I first bought because of the miss alignment of one of the buttons on the keyboard, and the replacement one arrived on the 3rd business day from the day I placed the order. Finally the services between Dell and HP are like Heaven and Hell, and I wouldn't recommend HP over Dell, because their customer service sucked. So, if you don't care about the customer service, and don't mind HP breaking your bank by charging a hefty restocking fee from your wallet, then buy an HP laptop, and if you want top notch services then go for dell.

      All vendors can and have had design issues. Period. I don't honestly think the average person who uses these class of laptops needs or is willing to pay the premium for more RAM. Let's be honest: most people don't do squat on a laptop except browse, Office and very light duty content creation. So why make everyone take the extra cost? If you need more perf/RAM/etc. then choose the right tool for the right job.
