Pedro Gabriel, the co-founder of Where Peter Is and the author of "Heresy Disguised as Tradition," shares insights on the confusion surrounding heresy and tradition in the Catholic Church. He gets real about what heresy truly means and sheds light on common misunderstandings in today's conversations. Pedro stresses the need to verify heresy claims using the right sources and underscores the serious consequences of wrongly accusing someone of heresy. He touches on the development of tradition, and how it might seem conflicting with the past.
    Key Points
    1. The precise definition of heresy: Pedro explains that heresy is not simply disagreeing with the Church or holding different opinions on non-infallibly defined matters. Heresy is an obstinate denial of a truth that should be believed by all, as defined by the Church.
    2. The misuse of heresy accusations: Pedro addresses the trend of casually throwing around heresy claims, particularly against the Pope, without proper validation or understanding of its gravity as a canonical crime.
    3. Heresy disguised as tradition: Pedro explores how heresy often presents itself as a return to a purer form of tradition, distorting the true teachings of the Church and undermining its authority.
    4. The development of tradition: Pedro delves into the nuanced nature of tradition, emphasizing that it allows for growth and development beyond a superficial interpretation. He highlights the need for a comprehensive understanding of tradition, considering historical and cultural contexts.
    5. The inspiration behind the book: Pedro shares his journey of uncovering the parallels between modern-day traditionalists and early Protestants, leading him to write "Heresy Disguised as Tradition." He explains how the book explores various heresies throughout history and their patterns of claiming a return to a purer form of faith.
    6. The role of the Magisterium: Pedro discusses the mechanisms through which the Magisterium accurately interprets tradition and why it is the most faithful interpreter. He emphasizes the importance of relying on the Magisterium rather than personal opinions.

Very interesting, the comparison between Fundamentalists looking to Scripture as some today look to Tradition. Both are seeing the Church Magisterium as innovative.
If all heresy is based on this view of the Magisterium, then certainly we need to learn to understand the documents of the Magisterium, and conform ourselves ever more closely with the Voice of God.
(As the Liturgy of the Hours prays Psalm 95: "If today you hear God's Voice, harden not your hearts!")
