The image of Tradition as Keeper of a living flame is wonderful!
Thank you for the explanation of St. Vincent of Lerins.

A thought on Pedro's argument of what "Tradition" actually means... yes, it is true what you say about it, generally-speaking.
Where you seem to fall short is in your dismissiveness of how Tradition "today" and "in the future" MUST BE GROUNDED IN, AND IN CONFORMITY WITH, TRADITION OF THE PAST. This is what "Trads" and sensible "conservative" Catholics have a beef with, sir. They are not backward-ists or stuck in the past. No, no, no. They are seeing a radical shift in what's approved liturgically and in moral matters. I am not talking about simple differences in schools of thought on certain topics- I am talking about the fact that this pontificate addresses these topics in a way that dismisses the long and slow organic development of application of Church teaching or liturgy. Of course, the Pope has the authority to introduce changes in practice, BUT it is extremely imprudent to also neuter what is good and holy along with these changes.
As for the Pope's affinity for accommodating sexual teachings, this is not just a different school of thought. This is scandalous because the Pope gets as close to the line as he can without crossing it, and goes silent when liberals (who want the lines blurred) cross the line into immorality, but turns the gaze of Sauron onto the small group of ardently faithful Catholics who are nourished by the TLM. It is this disproportionate response that has many critics think of him as some ruthless dictator Pope.

I agree that pope Francis is challenging, but he is challenging the church and the world to live into the merciful will of God, which for some is not an easy path, regardless of how one identifies on a political spectrum. If one is suffering, then we ought to go to God with our problems, not view our neighbor (who also happens to be the chair of St. Peter) as somebody aloof or against us in a serious way. I realize this can seem impossible, and that’s why we must have faith and trust in God. Charging Francis with total responsibility for our own sins and the world seems to be a way out for us embracing a greater faith in Christ. Again, it is hard, but going against the pope in a serious way is a dangerous path.
