  • For over a century, a railway line has crossed Myanmar's Shan province. The Mandalay - Lashio Express connects the hot lowlands with the green mountains of Shan State in north-east of the country.

The country is nice but it is sad how the government treats its Muslim citizens. From Amnesty International I was one of the scores of protesters seeking the freedom of Aung San Suu Kyi and now I find she is treating these people so ghastily.

I'm from Meghalaya, India and I feel so connected to these people as they look so similar to the Khasis and they eat lot of bettle nuts too. Also I notice they carry and wear those cloth bags. The lady merchant looks like a very genuine kind hearted aunt. This makes me wish I can visit Myanmar. Seems the interiors are stucked in time but Myanmar is also changing very fast.

Really worth to watch this video cause Myanmar kept out of the international arena for a long period of time. The production team given a clear message about the struggle Myanmar people are going through without having a proper infrastructure facilities unlike other south Asian countries. It's very interesting to see those people live with in their limited resources and seems to be happy. If is such a beautiful country. Well done production team. from NY.

Such a beautiful documentary. The Burmese people are warm and amazing people. I find it interesting how so many lives are intertwined because of a train. They deserve a much better life without such poverty. How they manage to survive is beyond me. I couldn't survive their lifestyle even if I were healthy. Meanwhile, that family at the end is adorable. They seem like good people.

Brother.... to be honest, the poor are always content with what they have/manage. I dont deny that poor/we dont have any aspirations, but those are usually legitimate and long term (like education for our children). It is the rich who are never content with what they have. They are greedy, jealous of others wealth and indulge in corruption, adultery and other crimes (which we fondly call free market capitalism). And they usually get away with it using their influence and money power.

Lived in Maymyo for over 16 years, the Town was the Jewel of Burma. Very British in its make-up. Lakes, Botanical Gardens, Etc:. Maymyo had it all. All Roads had English Names. Located between Mandalay and Lashio. Garath Steam engine were driven by the Best and Most Senior Personal from the Railway. Trains were run to a tight schedule and people could set their clocks by it. One Big Problem- Insurgents. There were spells when the Trains were blown up. causing Bad Memories. I Loved Living in Maymyo.

The beautiful country following the greatest Buddhist religion of the world. The eternal Sidharth the Buddha had renounced worldly pleasures and comforts to preach peace, compassion and a way out from human sufferings.
His teachings are totally truthful and he stressed his followers to pursue truth and asked them to be free to question his belief. Great Buddha who did not talk about false assurances. Indeed the greatest thinker and a man of most holy grace. Gautam the Buddha.

I've lived in Phuket Thailand for 10 years retired and my domestic helper Em Nong is from Burma, she's only 17 and has been sweeping the streets with her parents. Four months ago she returned to Burma. The last day I saw her and Mother they brought me a lovely basket of coffee mixes and I gave them a golden statue of Buddha, we were overwhelmed and sad to part. Em Nong still calls me by mobil every 2 weeks to say "HI" and I make her giggle and laugh with funny sounds! Yes I would like to travel to their home in Burma some day with my Thai foster daughter!

This is an excellent documentary , a beautiful and still quite unknown country. I want to visit Myanmar , the country , people , food and of course Lethwei !! A trip on this railway would be such an amazing experience , as would the Yangon Circular.

A really most enjoyable and informative documentary on life in perhaps the those regions that time has practically passed by. But as you notice they are most content with what their lot is and they go cheerfully about their task and always ready to help a fellow traveler or vendor. You can't miss what an important role the simple railway train plays in the life of so many. Everything so sensitively and lovingly depicted. Thank you and be blessed the true people of Myanmar.

If you look from google maps , compare the ggogle earth maps of Thailand and Neighbouring Burma , Myanmar.
Am I right to say that Myanmar has a lot more green jungles left compared to Thailand, it seems like Thailand in its effort to develop and provide a living for its people , every available piece of land has been converted to agriculture.
In Myanmar there are still unexplored virgin forest , more of it in the high ranges and steep mountains of the foothills of the eastern and central ranges.
A clear , depiction of development vs a slower pace of life

I am in the habit of watching 4K travelogues with the audio off while listening to religious radio. This video was extremely understandable even without the audio; informative, educational, beautiful, entertaining, inspiring. Appreciated... apologies to all who contributed to the audio track :)
