Hey legends! A few people appear to have some issues with audio. Seems to be predominantly on TV, we’ve been told adjusting the audio settings helps. We’ll investigate on our end. Apologies for the inconvenience!
I own the 2016 VTI-L. It is an excellent car. The build quality on this is even better than a newer version Hyundai(my other car). I still use this to haul the family on road trips and I really enjoy driving it. I find the handling better than a Toyota(my previous car). It has a lot of little features that still impress me like how the keys are connected to the seat settings, so if you enter the car with the key, the seat will automatically adjust to your setting. GENIUS!!
Statistically the CRV is one of the most reliable cars on the road. I would rather have a car like the CRV than an exciting car which costs a packet to keep on the road!
The water leaks tend to be due to the inner door membrane & sealant unsealing, which is also a thing with the civic, jazz & hrv... typically found when people park their cars on the street under trees etc and the door drain plugs become clogged with dirt & debris... when it rains heavily & the doors don't drain correctly due to the clog, that water pressure then wants to find a weak point, and that sealant becomes an escape route... into the car. Don't neglect the 10k services, trans & diff fluid changes, DO NOT use anything other than genuine honda fluid for your rear diff, they're extremely particular with diff fluid, people use generic oils and the diffs turn into a shuddering mess, and you'll need to flush it 3-4 times before refilling it with proper fluid which will cost you way more than refilling it properly in the first place. If you don't do oil changes every 10k you'll get sludge build up and need to do a sludge treatment flush, similar with rav4's and toyota's older 2.4L motors, and do a throttle body clean every 50k to help with carbon build up issues with the intake & sensors. And don't use bloody E10... long term it rusts fuel pump assemblies, so the money you saved on cheaper fuel just turned into a much bigger expense replacing fueling components. Adam once again a great review, love watching Redriven. Although I do wish you would stop talking about the amount of Kilometers if it is under 120,000 wear & tear should not be a factor at all. if a car with under 120,000 is showing major wear & tear then it has either been thrashed to death of its a complete heap of crap. I am a mechanic in Melbourne and I have many customers who have high ks and their cars are in Mint condition. modern cars can do high Ks if maintained.

My ex-partner drives a 2014 CRV.not inspiring but ergonomically one of the best designed SUVs on the road & deceiving spacious inside with a boot that's massive in comparison to a Mazda CX5
I was tossing between this generation crv and the rav4. I went for the 2017 rav4 gx 4x4, due to the engine and transmission combo, and the ac compressor problems of the crv turned me off (freightened of expensive repairs). The soy-based wirings seemed risky as well. I really like the opening of the crv’s rear doors though, always clever packaging from honda.
Oh no! I have been driving Rav4s for about 15 years (only two different models). I was thinking about switching from my 2005 Rav4 and getting a 2015 Honda CR-V (I can't afford more than this) or a 2015 Rav4. You say there are engine and transmission issues in the CR-V? Yikes. Is this something a mechanic can foresee with a pre-purchase inspection? I'd like to switch to a CR-V because I am bored with the Rav4s interior! It doesn't change much. What do you think?
Incredible options on this base model - leather seats, coupled with paddle shifters on a PVC steering! Sister in law had a base model VTi - a bit too plasticky inside for me and can’t say I enjoyed the somewhat asthmatic 2.0L, but in the burbs they are admittedly adequate. But pretty good interior space wise which can’t be said for many SUV’s because their space efficiency simply doesn’t compare to the old style wagon.
Yup. Also a base model VTi here. The 2.0L is so slow but that does mean it is somewhat efficient (7.5Lish / 100km is good for a car this big). The space inside is also spartan but very cleverly thought out. The doors open wide and the seats fold to a cavernous space. Really massive inside. Its also been with us for 10 years now and been problem free (which yeah should be expected but is still a great feat). In terms of looks, its no Alfa Romeo but ours is a nice black so when you park it at night in a lit up CBD parking spot it looks rather nice. Does what it says on the packaging!
@@satya.anandakrishnan I have the 2.0L manual and routinely get 6.5L/100km on long rural motorway trips, 7.5 in general country driving and 8.5 in the city. While I would like more power, I find it adequate. No doubt it helps that I can be in the correct gear ahead of time and I have 6 of them. The auto only had 5, and on my test drive the kickdown was terribly laggy. That, and the horrid foot-operated parking brake in the auto, was why I didn't get the 2.4L all wheel drive, even though I had a valid use for AWD. (The manual 4th gen has a traditional handbrake lever between the seats.)
Awesome video! I am very surprised that the transmissions only need to be serviced every 40k. Everything I have read from people that own them is they do it at 20k.
Some rodents and birds are actually attracted to chillies. I grow the hottest chilli plants you can buy and I've caught rats on trail cam stealing my chillies. I've actually used hot chilli sauce as bait in my traps and it's very successful.
Awesome vid. Would love to see a video designated for the Outlander, covering the DiD turbodiesel as well. Mine is a 2013 and would love to hear what you think--Would be great to compare the CVT petrol models with the 6spdAuto Diesels. Cheers mate!
After test driving a few different midsized SUV's including a 2015 CRV VTi-S & DTi-L Limited Edition, I ended up choosing a 2015 X-Trail 4wd Stl. And I'm really happy with it. I'm not sure why you guys never mention the T32's in your comparison reviews. Initially I was just following your recommended short list, but frankly the X-Trail trumped them all. It's a great all rounder with comfort, loads of space, good tech, baby seat friendly, reasonable on fuel, and great road trip car in addition to daily drive. The mechanics I spoke to before buying mine had nothing but good things to say about these. I would love you to a least give them a mention in the future if not do a review on one. Cheers and thanks for your great and entertaining reviews...
I’ve got a 2015 us spec ex that I got from my grandmother! Honestly for what it is, it’s kinda fun just cause it is boring and you don’t expect much from it. Also for us spec EX/EXL no nav 2015-2016 have a beta firmware with CarPlay and it works fairly well, just a small issue with the GPS that could be fixed by either unplugging the phone or by taking the compass cable out of the head unit
I'm planning to buy one. It's an old CR-V yes...but talking about reliability and utilitarian aspects of especially an SUV...this second generation is the right Choice. 3rd and forth generation though looks modern, they are sluggish and to me, even boring.
Not sure why it’s ‘boring’ other than the normal reasons any SUV is boring? If you want a family SUV and don’t really stray off the black stuff you’ll not go far wrong in a CR-V. Especially with the economy of the 1.6 diesel 👍🏼 My biggest criticism of this model is the infotainment system. It’s not quite up to par for the year but that’s not a deal breaker for most folks.
We have a 2014 version, bought new and has been an excellent car. Yes a bit underpowered (sport mode does help) handling and suspension was good compared to the others in class in our view, cx5 is more dynamic but a lot smaller. I have no regrets buying this. Only issues after 10 years is the paint peeling on the bonnet and a couple of interior light switches which are temperamental.
Your website's cheat sheet for the fourth gen has the model spec info for the fifth gen, so it's all wrong and it needs to be fixed. Also, "Limited Edition" isn't all that rare. I've come across plenty of them (at least, in the facelift version). As for the car not being "sexy..." BS! The front of my wife's dark grey VTi-L (facelift model) turns my head all the time. Granted, all the other colours are a bit ho-hum, but the dark grey looks really good and has the perfect amount of contrast to the chrome accents (black is too dark and loses the looks of the dark grey). However, the rear is yawn-worthy after seeing the rear of the fifth gen (there's no getting around that). Leather was available as an option for the variants that didn't have it as standard, but they didn't get the electric adjusters that the VTi-L got (the seat in the car you reviewed clearly has manual adjusters, so it absolutely is not the VTi-L seat as you claimed it to be). Needless to say, leather in the lower variants wasn't "unique." It was just uncommon. I haven't been for a long drive in the lower spec seats, but the VTi-L seats have a very decent range of adjustment in the lumber support, as well as having seat base height and tilt adjustment (along with the other adjustments), and I've had no problem driving for hours, and I usually have troubles with my back if I can't get the seat just right. In the facelift version, bluetooth connectivity DOES support podcasts, music, etc, even though Android Auto and Apple Car Play aren't on the head deck (note that it's possible to update the head deck to include these, but I've never bothered to do this for my wife's car because it isn't actually needed). Your list of features even includes bluetooth streaming as a standard feature, contradicting yourself. However, yes, the satnav is crap. Handling is a little too under-damped in rebound, resulting in a slight wallowing feel over bumps while cornering on country roads. Steering is competently responsive for a relatively soft suspension set-up. Even my wife can tell the difference between the 2L and the 2.4L. The 2L needs a performance tune-up to remove a bit of the yawn-factor. The 2.4L is adequate (certainly enough for my wife), but for my liking, it would be nice to have a mild turbo boost of about 7-8PSI to bring it up to around 200-210kW to make it rival the performance of the V6 Rav4. Of course, that wouldn't help its thirst, but that goes without saying. Servicing a standard engine at 10,000km should only be considered if you use a high quality fully synthetic oil and you mainly do long distance driving. For anything else, 5,000km to 7,500km. Engine oil and filters are a lot cheaper than replacing an engine, so don't extend the oil and filter replacement intervals.
I drive a Maybach 57s V12 6.0 liter and my trusty 2008 Honda CRV 2.4 liter four cylinder. Despite showering my Maybach with more attention (like a mistress) and paying less attention on my Honda (like a faithful wife), at the end of the day, I come back to my reliable workhorse, my Honda ❤.
Can you please review the Mercedes ML W164 (2005-2011) the face-lifted version (2009-2010) ? PS: the 2011 model was like a special edition or something like that.
I know someone whos seriously looking at buying a CR-V so this will be an immense help to them as I'm definitely going to show them that. It's definitely an unassuming car in terms of looks but at the same time it is instantly recognisable and I see a truck load of them on the road. It's was funny hearing the awww sound track in Hullsy's segment and its the first time he's had too do an interjection bit for forgetting something lol. Keep up the good work guys, hope all of you guys and your families have a happy and safe Easter and look forward to seeing next week's videos 👍.
There is no audio with this review. It works for the first few seconds then stops working. I really would like to hear this review. Can you please fix the audio?😢
Checked it while searching for my family, but decided to go with the Kia Sportage instead. Did not like the small diesel engine (1.6 with two turbos), the old infotainment and the lack of some premium options (ventilated seats, awd lock, opening panoramic roof, etc) But good enough SUV nonetheless
Before that... Honda made Honda life! Integra and NSX is just that passion car that YOU, yes... people like you want that most of us don't need. Boring is good, means we know how to fix it, how to maintain it, and how to handle it, and afford to use it for all of us.
Hey mate I'm the 2005 caldina guy who bought the q50s hybrid , but 7 years ago I bought the 2.4 crv vti s , the boot space was bigger than the rav 4 and the cabin feel , felt nicer and it was 7k cheaper , than the mid range rav 4 , the only problem, but makes a huge difference the drivers seat , is shit , terrible and it uses 13.5 liters , In saying that 2015 model my wife has got 36k on the clock, had to replace the cv joints, a grand ,rewind time I would pick rav 4 , purely on seats
Electrical issues honda can't solve. I've had one at the hands dealer for 2 weeks they charged me 180 dollars because they couldn't work out whybit was draining the battery.took it to an auto electrician, Was the door lock switch. But other than that issue nothing else went wrong.
When these were new, I wanted to like it, went to buy the 4wd diesel here in the UK. In real life it was even uglier than on the web but after test drive ended up going back to KIA and buying Sorrento. Sadly, this Honda isn't only dull too look at, but all the seats are uncomfortable and worse yet the ride quality is one of the worst in the category. But still, not a bad choice imho.
I'm not sure if this is area specific, but I live in the Netherlands so quite the opposite end of the world, but only the intro seems to have sound when I'm playing it at 5.1, but I did get sound when I turned the 5.1 off.
Can someone lend these guys a Suzuki SX4 to review? While the CRV is well known, not sure too many people know much about the SX4 other than its failed styling.
I seem to be the only one who lost all audio at about 24 seconds in to the video on Apple TV. Mind you, now that I’m on my iPad with it playing whilst typing this, I have perfect audio. Go figure. Apple TV decided the CRV wasn’t interesting enough? Hmmm
I very, very nearly bought a current gen (2021) model; but for anyone looking at that generation of 2017 or later, be very cautious of the 1.5 Turbo Honda engines, also found in a few other models like the Civic. They are known for potentially severe oil dilution due to a design flaw and even have a class-action lawsuit in process in the US. You might get one that isn't affected but they will all do it to some degree and detract from the lifespan. Just in case anyone was watching this with current gen CR-V in mind! It's a shame because they look great
I live in Norway my 2019 1.5TAWD has no Oil dilution but my car was built in Japan, the Chinese, US and Canadian built CRVs I believe has different engine mapping to the Japanese Engines,.@@georgepappas4628
The Vid was great. I think the interior was switched out by a Honda dealer wanting to keep a vegan/vegetarian/Animal rights customer. If you want a higher spec CRV you have to have it with a leather interior. I suspect there is another higher spec CRV running around with a black fabric interior.
Modern SUV's of many manufactures have plastic cladding all around the outside and as they age the plastics will degrade especially here in our Australian climate and hot summers. they need plastic restorer creams from auto store's to rejuvenate them. and prevent from fading

The sound seems to be missing
Mine 2.0 is 11 years old now. The only issue I've had is the third brake light, which stopped working, which is a very comon thing.
I don't understand why some people describe a car as boring, what exactly do they want from a car ?
What type of car is the black car in the garage? looks very nice.
Awesome video!
I am very surprised that the transmissions only need to be serviced every 40k. Everything I have read from people that own them is they do it at 20k.
For the most balanced design vs other competitors , the best handling in its class, I bought recently a 2015 AT 2WD w 60,000 km run, GAS
Some rodents and birds are actually attracted to chillies. I grow the hottest chilli plants you can buy and I've caught rats on trail cam stealing my chillies. I've actually used hot chilli sauce as bait in my traps and it's very successful.
@Aamir Iqbal I hope you get the help you need.
Please do a review of the volvo xc90 diesel am considering purchasing one
Awesome car for golfers, the passenger side wing mirror camera is excellent. Hate the foot operated parking brake. Overall a good family car.
For some reason the audio stops playing a minute into this video for me
Awesome vid. Would love to see a video designated for the Outlander, covering the DiD turbodiesel as well. Mine is a 2013 and would love to hear what you think--Would be great to compare the CVT petrol models with the 6spdAuto Diesels. Cheers mate!
Can't wait to see Sportscar killer list 🙌
Lost the sound about 1min in... 😢
CVT issues is why they aren't recommended
car manufacturers please have separate seat designs for the US and other markets 🙏
please, I'm slippin' 'n' slidin' all over the place back here
I’ve got a 2015 us spec ex that I got from my grandmother!
Newer CRVs drive really nice I reckon. I'd definitely shoot for one of those 2.4 AWD models with the leather...nice one.
Miss the Integra!
Especially with the economy of the 1.6 diesel 👍🏼
My biggest criticism of this model is the infotainment system.
Engine oil and filters are a lot cheaper than replacing an engine, so don't extend the oil and filter replacement intervals.
they are great, and the Rav4 and CX5 and other mazda's are great. The prior gen Rav has had ATrans failures, and i wonder if more so in Oz?
How does this one have colored fender things? Is it because im in the USA?
I drive a Maybach 57s V12 6.0 liter and my trusty 2008 Honda CRV 2.4 liter four cylinder. Despite showering my Maybach with more attention (like a mistress) and paying less attention on my Honda (like a faithful wife), at the end of the day, I come back to my reliable workhorse, my Honda ❤.
As long as it’s got V Tec and I can modify it. I’m happy
Can you please review the Mercedes ML W164 (2005-2011) the face-lifted version (2009-2010) ?
PS: the 2011 model was like a special edition or something like that.
Do you have a generation 3 review of this car?
Would be more interesting if there was audio ….
I'm not sure if they qualify for this channel yet but I'd love you to take a look at the palisade
It’ll quality as soon as it’s a few years old
Are these 2.0 petrol engines not port injected?
I know someone whos seriously looking at buying a CR-V so this will be an immense help to them as I'm definitely going to show them that.
It's definitely an unassuming car in terms of looks but at the same time it is instantly recognisable and I see a truck load of them on the road.
It's was funny hearing the awww sound track in Hullsy's segment and its the first time he's had too do an interjection bit for forgetting something lol.
Keep up the good work guys, hope all of you guys and your families have a happy and safe Easter and look forward to seeing next week's videos 👍.
No audio mate
Our 2018 CRV has been the best vehicle we have ever owned
There is no audio with this review. It works for the first few seconds then stops working. I really would like to hear this review. Can you please fix the audio?😢
Checked it while searching for my family, but decided to go with the Kia Sportage instead. Did not like the small diesel engine (1.6 with two turbos), the old infotainment and the lack of some premium options (ventilated seats, awd lock, opening panoramic roof, etc)
But good enough SUV nonetheless
Before that... Honda made Honda life! Integra and NSX is just that passion car that YOU, yes... people like you want that most of us don't need. Boring is good, means we know how to fix it, how to maintain it, and how to handle it, and afford to use it for all of us.
Did you guys review the 3rd gen? I've found reviews for the 2nd and 4th.
Theres no audio on the video. Is anyone else having this issue?
When these were new, I wanted to like it, went to buy the 4wd diesel here in the UK. In real life it was even uglier than on the web but after test drive ended up going back to KIA and buying Sorrento. Sadly, this Honda isn't only dull too look at, but all the seats are uncomfortable and worse yet the ride quality is one of the worst in the category. But still, not a bad choice imho.
Can you guys review the Corolla Axio, really love your videos
I'm not sure if this is area specific, but I live in the Netherlands so quite the opposite end of the world, but only the intro seems to have sound when I'm playing it at 5.1, but I did get sound when I turned the 5.1 off.
It’s a great vehicle, especially considering that the only real brands that compete with it come with Toyota Tax or Mazda Markups
And what about the awd in the snowsnow? I heard that the awd are not so good because slow to start. Can someone tell me more pls?
Got the 2.4l 4wd 2013*... It's been great 👍
Got obe of these last week 2007.2.4 manual .it's amazing
It sucks that reliability is boring
Why are Hondas not as popular here in Australia as they are in other parts of the world?
Anyone else have problems with the audio in this? It started off quiet and then disappeared after a few seconds.
Which is better for family...Nx300h or crv 1.6 idtec or crv 2.0 hybrid anyone?
Can someone lend these guys a Suzuki SX4 to review? While the CRV is well known, not sure too many people know much about the SX4 other than its failed styling.
no sound after 2:25?
Sound on this dropped out for us a minute in...
Would love to see a review on the marmite... sorry vegemite suv that is the Nissan Murano 3.5!
It's a shame because they look great
Problem traced to poor quality rings. Fixed in 2017/2018 onwards. Easily solved by draining some of the diluted oil and topping up with new.
I heard the problem was for cars in very cold climates. It's not a problem here in Australia as we don't get very cold or snow.
I live in Norway my 2019 1.5TAWD has no Oil dilution but my car was built in Japan, the Chinese, US and Canadian built CRVs I believe has different engine mapping to the Japanese Engines,.@@georgepappas4628
The Honda CRV you are right the most unobivious SUV the styling is very neutral as for been a Honda it has to be reliable
The Vid was great.
I think the interior was switched out by a Honda dealer wanting to keep a vegan/vegetarian/Animal rights customer. If you want a higher spec CRV you have to have it with a leather interior. I suspect there is another higher spec CRV running around with a black fabric interior.
I love your reviews but no mention about the transmission. Does it have a CVT or not. This is the deal breaker.
5speed sports Automatic
MItsubishi outlander please!
No mention of the fading external plastics around the whole base of the car?
Modern SUV's of many manufactures have plastic cladding all around the outside and as they age the plastics will degrade especially here in our Australian climate and hot summers. they need plastic restorer creams from auto store's to rejuvenate them. and prevent from fading
Sound glitch
